Lock icon at bottom & can't access my music from other comp.

I have noticed while using my iPod video there is a lock icon at the bottom of iTunes and it doesn't allow me to access my music while using other computers. how do i remove this feature so i can play mt music.

The lock icon appears when you iPod is set to automatically update.
Set it to manually update and you should be able to play the music from other computers.
Hope this helps.

  • Why can I not order music from other countries

    Hello,
why can I not order music from either germany or austria if the canadian itunes does not have it?
I don't mind paying in euros or paypal, which ever.
I think the stores should be compatable or should allow buying from another country.
    Thanks, Ingo

The short answer is that the content owners do not allow Apple to sell content across country borders. It's not by Apple's choice.

  • Can't Access Aperture Photos from Other Applications

I am using the trial version of Aperture. I can't access the photos in Aperture from Photoshop, Word or any other application (except Mail). I can see the icon for Aperture and the words "Aperture 3 Trial Library" but it is grayed out. Is there a setting or what? I have Snow Leopard and Mac OS X 10.6.5.

I guess one thing that bothers me about all my pictures being "bundled" in iPhoto or Aperture is that they don't show up in the Finder.
This is a real non-issue. A Package is simply a folder that looks like a file. Want to look inside? Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library or the Aperture Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
See? There are all your files, in folders.
Why are they Packaged? Because if you move, rename, or alter them then you will corrupt your Library. So it's a simple protection for the structure of the Library. That's all. No big secret.
But there are other things you need to consider too.
Supposing you want to attach a file to an Email in Aperture. Presumably you want to send the edited file of your photo. So, how do you do that +when there is no edited file+? Aperture doesn't actually edit the file at all it simply records the decisions you have taken and shows them to live when you view the pic. All your edits are "virtual". So, the fact that your original files are stored out the the package will be no help to you at all.
iPhoto is pretty much the same - though the details are different.
So, you have to use the applications when you want to access the files for whatever reason - editing, printing, sharing, whatever. That's the point of these apps. They are your Photo Manager, what AddressBook is to your Contacts, iTunes is to your Music and so on.
Here's a macro I use for when these questions come up on the iPhoto Forum. Most - if not all - of these will also work for Aperture:
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*_(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)_*
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto or Aperture
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto or Aperture not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
*File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. This produces, producing a copy.
    Regards

  • Can't access new MBP from other Macs on my network

I just got a new last-gen MBP running Leopard. All Apple updates are installed. I need to access it from two Macs on my network that are running Tiger (also with all current updates installed). Tiger-to-Tiger connections are running perfectly. And the new Mac accesses the Internet, networked printers and so on just fine.
Problem: While the MBP shows up in the other machines' Network Browser, they can't connect to it. And, while the MBP sees the other machines, all it can connect to is the account Public Folders (the entire volumes are set to share).
The new MBP was populated with data from my old PB G4 using Migration Assistant.
I've never had a problem like this. I've tried disabling the MBP Firewall, rebooting the network, rebooting all of my Macs, but still no luck.
I've searched the Discussions and didn't find any help in previous postings. Hopefully someone can help me now...
    Thank you!

And the Leopard machine shows in each Tiger machine's network browser.
I've rebooted all of the machines at least once and rebooted my router and switch as well.
I've tried connecting to the Leopard machine by specifying its afp address.
None of this works. I guess I'll need to take advantage of my free 90 days of tech support and call Apple. In 20 years of owning Macs, I've never encountered anything like this. I still hope I don't need to reinstall the OS, but I'm getting very worried.
Thanks for all the suggestions; I'll keep checking back and will also post the solution if one is found.
I do not think it's an OS issue. At least one requiring a reinstall.
I just started my other MBP with Tiger. Takes a bit since it's booting via a FW400 pipe.
I will see if I can access this MBP from that one in a few minutes. Never did that - all my systems have been peers. (Booted faster than I expected.)
First I note that this Leopard box does not show up on the Tiger box.
Also "go" and browse does not show this box.
It worked but I had to enter this IP into the "connect to" on Tiger.
    Required login and password.
Connected via afp and a window popped up with the volumes on this box to connect to.
Clicked this user account and there I was.
After that, this box showed up in the Finder sidebar.
So Tiger will connect to a Leopard box, but it seems that one needs to enter the IP of the Leopard box. If that does not work, then something is wrong.
Curiously, that Tiger box has not registered on this Leopard under Places.
Ah, I did not have filesharing on in the Tiger box. Turned it on and I can see it from here.
So I have bilateral network connections: Leopard here <-> Tiger there
Works for me, but that does not help you except to know that it should work.
BTW The Tiger version is 10.4.11.

  • HT1329 If I cannot access my old computer, can I transfer my music from other sources on my iPod touch to my new PC?

I have purchased a new computer as my previous one can no longer be used. The problem I have is that I have a lot of music on my iPod touch from sources other than the iTunes store purchases.
Can I transfer these files without accessing my old computer? If so, how can I do this?
    Thanks in advance.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a abckup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Haev you failed to backup?  Not good.
You may be able to purchase a third party program to retrieve the music,

  • Why can't I buy music from other Stores, other then my localised store ?

It puzzles me. If you buy a CD abroad, you can play it in your CD player at home. So why not iTunes downloads. For instance, I'm located in the Netherlands, but I see an album in the US store I want to download, but I can't because I'm only allowed to buy something from the Dutch store.
Why ? It makes no sense.
EDIT: Nevermind, another post had the answer.

Please give more information, as your device model and software version. Also what happens when you try to buy music? Probably is because you don't have an apple id synced up or you haven't registered a credit card.

  • Why Can't I buy music from other country's music store?

There are albums I want to buy (in Spain's music store, in particular) but I can't. And for some futarded reason, those albums aren't available in the USA's music store.
Why is this? When are they going to fix it? Why doesn't the world revolve around me and my tastes?

    Jay,
this has been discussed more than once:
It's the decision of the big record labels and/or the copyright holders - it's not a decision made by Apple.
So there won't be any "fix" until the record labels will change their attitude.

  • How can I transfer my music from one comp to another?

I am looking to move my WHOLE itunes library from my laptop to my new desktop mac?
    Help

    Hello Katharine,
Follow the link Limnos provided. There's a step by step inside.
On that page choose External Drive and follow the 6 parts.
Also, if you downloaded files from the iTunes Store you will need to Authorize your new computer (and deauthorize your laptop if you won't use it anymore). After you imported your songs to your new desktop Mac, in iTunes From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer and log in with your Apple ID.

    Hope this will help.

  • How can I access my music in the iCloud?

how can i access my music from my itunes on my Mac, on my Mc book pro?

There isn't currently any iCloud music streaming, if that what you mean.
iTunes Match will be coming, probably late October, early November. That will provide streaming.
If your just talking about music you bought on, say, your iPhone and want it to appear on your Mac, go into iTunes preferences (on your Mac), click the "Store" icon and make sure that Automatic Downloads are turned on. That will keep your Mac iTunes library up to date when you buy on your iDevice.
If you've got older stuff that you need to download, you can go into your Purchased section in iTunes and click on "Download Previous Purchases" which should show you everything you've bought. You can re-download from there.

  • TA22652 Some of my music was purchased with an old email address which I no longer have. I have forgotten the password to it and can no longer use music from old account. We moved and no longer have the same email service, but would like to use all music

Some of my music was purchased with an old email address (old account) which is no longer valid. Since it has been a long time since we used the email address we no longer know the password. Now I can't access the music from my old account due to using a new computer. I've purchased the music and downloaded cds with the old account and need to be able to get my music.

  • HELP! I can't access the music on Ipod! Music's font is faded on Itunes??!

    Here's the story,
I recently bought a Ipod Touch, so I gave my old Ipod nano (2nd generation) to my mom. She put the Ipod nano onto her own Itunes account, but only 170 songs show up on her library out of 300 from the Ipod nano. The other problem is that when the Ipod is connected to her Itunes account, she can't access the songs on the Ipod. All the playlists and songs from the Ipod are under the 'Device', you can see all of them, but the font of all the music is faded and when you double click a song, nothing happens. Whats wierd is that only selected songs are in the 'Library' (which can be accessed and played) and all the songs on the Ipod are under 'Devices' (but can NOT be accessed or played). How can she access the music??
Your advice is GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you.

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes. If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:

  • Can't access the Music Store.  This thing is driving me nuts!!!

Ever since installing iTunes V7.x I had stability problems with iTunes and my Video iPod. I finally gave up and rolled back to iTunes 6.04 and restored the iPod to its former firmware. I thought my problems were behind me until I noticed this morning that none of my Podcasts were being updated, even though it looked like it was going through the motions. Every single podcast had a with the message:
"There was a problem downloading "xxx". The network connection was reset"
I then tried accessing the Music Store and got the message:
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was reset."
I checked and re-entered my Apple account name and password, but still no go. If I went to the Apple web site directly, then the Apple store, I had no problem logging in. In the early iTune days I had the same "network connection reset" problem, but Apple apparently fixed it. Now here it is again. It is my gut feel that the problem has something to do with the fact that I depend on a satellite internet feed (Hughesnet). I'm guessing that there is some security feature either in iTunes, the Music Store, or both that is getting confused by the long turn-around time (latency) resulting from using satellite, but no way to prove it (unfortunately, due to poor health, I can't get out to try other internet connections).
Bottom line is I am stuck with an iPod I can't use because I can't access the Music Store. Any ideas?

Believe it or not I got mine working finally though I'm not sure which of the following steps, if any, did the trick. I posted this problem in the DSLReports forum. Apparently several people had problems though none mentioned iTunes specifically. The 'fix' was to go into the advanced menu and change the proxy port to something other than Port: 87. The idea was that this effectively turns off the proxy server or I should say forces your receiver to not use the proxy server. Well I tried this and didn't see any difference. Rather than screw anything else up I decided to reset the DW7000 thus restoring the original settings. For some reason it all of sudden could finally access the Music Store, update podcasts, etc.; i.e. it started working.
From what I've read, each time you reset the receiver it goes out an decides on the proxy server to use (not necessarily the same one each time). I'm guessing the proxy server it picked up after the reset was more iTunes friendly. Of course it's possible that it has nothing to do with the proxy server and the reset fixed whatever was wrong. Bottom line, reset your receiver and see if the access problem goes away. If not, try again. It only takes a few seconds so really you have nothing to loose. Kind of obvious when you think about it. What's the first thing you do when your computer is having a problem? Yep, reset.
