Locking just a filed from a table

Hi in my report I want to block a particular filed from a ztable . I have a report which has a selection screen where few entries are made . Out of these particular entries I just want to block the fileds say plant from that ztable . I have used ENQUEUE , DEQUEUE for this but the problem is that its locking the entire entrie and not allowing other user to go ahead with his use of the report for other plants . I wnat to block other users from using same plant if someone is already using that plant. Could I get soem info on how to just block plant field for that particular plant only if someone is alreday using that particular plant . Other should be able to use other plants.
I ahve use FM Enqueue_ez..._lock and Deque .

As soon as I am putting the DEQUEUE my locking system dosent work .Or is it that I am putting the lock at a wrong place. I put the lock as soon as I make entry into the selection screen and enter and used the same FM as u advised and when I am putting the FM DEQUEUE just after the the value check of the selection screen , and I use the transaction the lock dosent seem to work then , it just lets me go in without any message or warning . Actaully I had made a little change in the fucntion module where in I put my own information message instead of the system message to make it a information rather than an error message .

DEFAULT a value for a filed from a table used in ABAP query

I have used a field makt-spras in my infoset query and used it in my selection screen. Whenever I go into the transaction for the query and see the selection screen it always has 'EN' in the language key. Is there a way I can clear that . I dont want the selection screen to have anything wyhen I enter the transaction so that teh user can enter his or her own language and instead remove the work of removing the EN always . I would like to default it to blank space initially . In the query where can I do that as I dont see nay option to default it to space in the query for this field that is directly used form the table .

Hi There,
In the transaction SQ02 (for Infoset), click on the button Extras on the top and then in the Tabstrip that appears, you will have Code, click on that. After that from the drop down selection box, select Initialization even and write the code CLEAR makt-spras field.
This should work.

Including column from fact table reduces number of rows returned

Hello
I am facing this issue where in a report I select 5 columns from a fact table. Out of these five columns one of the column is "Amount" for which the aggregation rule is defined as Sum in RPD.
When I include these five column and filter results based on some criterion , I get all the rows (three rows) that satisfy the criterion. No I add a sixth column to my report and suddenly I only see one row returned by my report. Addition of this sixth column does not affect the criterion as the criterion is not based on this column. But this sixth column is a calculated column.
I tried different things but because the report was just getting columns from one table (fact) and suddenly inclusion of one column leads to reduction in number of rows , I was unable to find any reason why would that happen.
So I thought that some one in community may know that in what scenario this happens.

Are there any repeated values? I'm wondering if what you're seeing is actually suppression of repetition in the results. Edit the analysis, go to the criteria tab, click column properties, go to the Column Format tab, and change the setting for value suppression from 'Suppress" to "Repeat". Repeat for each of your 6 columns and check the outcome.
Otherwise, I would try testing with other calculations and also bring in some columns from dimension tables to see how this affects the result. You should be able to come up with a case-by-case scenario to work out exactly what causes the rows to be suppressed which will get us one step to closer to working out why the rows get suppressed.

Selecting from two tables but making it just one selection

Is there a way to select from two tables and just have one selection appear?
Specifically I have a fact_install_unit, and a fact_install_arch table.
Sometimes the value exists in fact_install_unit.factory_timestamp, and sometimes when fact_install_unit.factory_timestamp is null I need to pull it from the fact_install_arch.factory_timestamp.
sort of like:
(select fact_install_unit.factory_timestamp
from fact_install_unit, fact_install_arch
where fact_install_unit.fl_unit_sak = fact_install_arch.fl_unit_sak
and where fact_install_unit.factory_timestamp is null then display fact_install_arch.factory_timestamp)

Do I have to use lock when I am reading data from a table

When i am reading data from a table , do I have to set a lock on that table .
Is it necessary for us to set the lock on a table when I am reading data from the table.
When I am updating the table , do I have to set a lock on the table ?
If yes, then what sort of lock-read lock,write lock or shared lock?

Lock objects are use in SAP to avoid the inconsistancy at the time of data is being insert/change into database.
SAP Provide three type of Lock objects.
- Read Lock(Shared Locked)
protects read access to an object. The read lock allows other transactions read access but not write access to
the locked area of the table
- Write Lock(exclusive lock)
protects write access to an object. The write lock allows other transactions neither read nor write access to
the locked area of the table.
- Enhanced write lock (exclusive lock without cumulating)
works like a write lock except that the enhanced write lock also protects from further accesses from the
same transaction.
You can create a lock on a object of SAP thorugh transaction SE11 and enter any meaningful name start with EZ Example EZTEST_LOCK.
Use: you can see in almost all transaction when you are open an object in Change mode SAP could not allow to any other user to open the same object in change mode.
Example: in HR when we are enter a personal number in master data maintainance screen SAP can't allow to any other user to use same personal number for changes.
Technicaly:
When you create a lock object System automatically creat two function module.
1. ENQUEUE_<Lockobject name>. to insert the object in a queue.
2. DEQUEUE_<Lockobject name>. To remove the object is being queued through above FM.
You have to use these function module in your program.

Normally ABAPers will create the Lock objects, because we know when to lock and how to lock and where to lock the Object then after completing our updations we unlock the Objects in the Tables

before updating any table first we lock the table by calling enque_lockobject fm and then after updating we release the lock by deque_lockobject.

Give the name starts with EZ or EY..
Example: EYTEST
Press Create button..
Give the short description..
Example: Lock object for table ZTABLE..
In the tables tab..Give the table name..
Example: ZTABLE
Save and generate..
Your lock object is now created..You can see the LOCK MODULES..
In the menu ..GOTO -> LOCK MODULES..There you can see the ENQUEUE and DEQUEUE function

Downloading BLOB from a table.

First I want to say thatnks for such a great tool like HTMLDB.
Question is:
How do I download BLOB from a table. What I am trying to do is. I am uploading files to a default HTMLDB location (wwv_flow_file_objects$) and moving the records to different table (delete file from wwv_file_objects$). Then I would like to be able to download that blobs from a DB by following some link. And I need it to be secure, user have to authenticate to do it. I got to the point where I created process (before header) to download the file. But I am having hard time passing some variables to that process in URL. Can some one advice me on the best practice of doing it. And also if it is a right thing to use before header process to put my own header and start uploading blob in html db. The main reason I do not whant to use DAD for that is simple security issue and ability of storing of the BLOBs only in one table. I prefer to upload it to a temporary location and then move it to other table(s). Then I need to be able to retriev the files back from those tables without moving them around.
Any help is greatly appriciated

i think i see what you're asking, but i'll step through the pieces just to make sure i cover your issue:
it sounds as if you have a procedure that successfully calls wpg_docload.download_file to get your blob out of your images table. for this explanation, lets just say your images table has the same table structure as wwv_flow_files created with something like...

...then it sounds as if this is where you start running into issues. to be able to call this procedure from the url, you'd have to grant execute on your getmyfile proc to the db user that your modplsql DAD uses to access your db. once that user was given access to run getmyfile, you could access your files in myfiles by calling a URL like...

...where p_id is the unique id associated with your blob in getmyfiles (you could, of course, use whatever method you want to uniquely identify that file and adjust your select-into statement w/in your getmyfile procedure). so that's all fine and dandy, but it sounds as if you want users to have to authenticate into your html db application before they can access a blob in your images table. it also sounds as if you're on the right track to do so by putting your procedure call in a before_header html db process. you could quite easily call your getmyfile procedure in such an html db pl/sql before_header process with something like...

...which would cause your page to just show the blob associated with the id you passed to getmyfile. because you're now accessing your blob table through html db parsing as your application schema owner, you'd no longer need to grant execute on getmyfile to your modplsql DAD's db user. that eliminates most of the security hole to which you were referring. now that you're calling getmyfile from w/in an html db process, you can take advantage of all the other html db perks such as applying conditions and an authorization scheme to the html db process to really lock things down. finally, you asked about firing your process before_header versus other firing points. before_header is a good way to go, but if you really wanted to execute other procedural logic on your page before showing the blob (and you didn't want to implement that code as before_header processes that fire sequentially before your getmyfile call),you could just throw an htp.init in right before your getmyfile call to clear out your http buffer like so...

No records when inputting new field from linked tables.

I have linked two tables in a report. If I use only fields from one table, no problem. As soon as I add a field from the other table no records are pulled. I am using the same filed "IncidentID" in both tables as a link. If I attempt to pull the "IncidentID" from the second table no records are pulled. There does not appear to be any key fields or indexes in either table if that helps.

jyotsna, first check if you have a pattern to follow like if the primary key field have a increasing number range or it would be great if you find a date field which stores the inserted date or some thing..
you can select max or that field or order by descending using select single.
or get all data.. sort in descending order.(again you need some criteria like date).

Adding Data From One Table to Another

Now, this doesn't strike me as a particularly complex problem, but I've either strayed outside the domain of Numbers or I'm just not looking at the problem from the right angle. In any case, I'm sure you guys can offer some insight.
What I'm trying to do is, essentially, move data from one table to another. One table is a calendar, a simple two column 'date/task to be completed' affair, the other is a schedule of jogging workouts, i.e, times, distances. Basically, I'm trying to create a formula that copies data from the second table onto the first but only for odd days of the week, excepting Sundays (and assuming Monday as the start of the week). Now, this isn't the hard part, I can do that. The problem comes when I replicate the formula down the calendar. Even on the days when the 'if' statement identifies it as an 'even day', the cell reference to the appropriate workout on the second table is incremented, so when it comes to the next 'odd day', it has skipped a workout.
I can't seem to see any way of getting it to specifically copy the NEXT line in the second table, and not the corresponding line.
This began as a distraction to try and organise my running so I could see at a glance what I had to do that day and track my progress, but now it's turned into an obsession. SURELY there's a solution?

Is it
• a list of three workouts, one for each of Monday, Wednesday and Friday, then the same three repeated the following week?
• an open-ended list that does not repeat?
• something else?

Copying large amount of data from one table to another getting slower

I have a process that copies data from one table (big_tbl) into a very big archive table (vb_archive_tbl - 30 mil recs - partitioned table). If there are less than 1 million records in the big_tbl the copy to the vb_archive_table is fast (-10 min), but more importantly - it's consistant. However, if the number of records is greater than 1 million records in the big_tbl copying the data into the vb_archive_tbl is very slow (+30 min - 4 hours), and very inconsistant. Every few days the time it takes to copy the same amount of data grows signicantly.
Here's an example of the code I'm using, which uses BULK COLLECT and FORALL INSERST to copy the data.
I occasionally change 'LIMIT 5000' to see performance differences.

Assuming that there is nothing else in the code that forces you to use PL/SQL for processing, I'll second Tubby's comment that this would be better done in SQL. Depending on the logic and partitioning approach for the archive table, you may be better off doing a direct-path load into a staging table and then doing a partition exchange to load the staging table into the partitioned table. Ideally, you could just move big_tbl into the vb_archive_tbl with a single partition exchange operation.
That said, if there is a need for PL/SQL, have you traced the session to see what is causing the slowness? Is the query plan different? If the number of rows in the table is really a trigger, I would tend to suspect that the number of rows is causing the optimizer to choose a different plan (with your sample code, the plan is obvious, but perhaps you omitted some where clauses to simplify things down) which may be rather poor.

But still the vallue of off_city is null or emtpy...
i check the filed and still its empty..
while mtest had those records..seems like some process is cleaining the values...but cant see such process...
a bit confused..here..I tried on Load after footer...
tried chaning the squence number of process ..but still it doesnt help
some how the session variables gets changed...and it is changed to empty

How to get selected entity from ADF Table

I'm using EJB and ADF Faces.
I have an ADF Table, and when a row is selected I'd like to be able to get the EJB Entity that was selected, is this feasible?
The reason I would like to do it, is for a Dialog. I have a popup dialog, and in the popup the user can do a search. The results are displayed in the ADF table. When supplying the return value from the dialog:

I would like ? to be the EJB entity representing the row, because I need to return the value of more than one of the columns. Is this not realistic, or should I just add then to a List and pass that back?

I hacked some code from the inbuilt JDeveloper Help. Are you saying there is an easier way than this, or did I state the question poorly and you gave an answer to something else? My english is not always perfect.
This is the code that works for me. (cmdSelect is the submit button on the table)

Values from check table to Dropdown

Hi Experts,
                I have a requirement like, i want to show the values from a check table in dropdown list. i have two transparent table of which i made a foreign key relation with the second one with some value restrictions. That all working fine.
    I tried creating an input box with reference to the field in the first table.then the search help is comming correctly with the valus from check table. But when i tried to attach the same to dropdown its not displaying the value.
please suggest a solution to display the values in drop down.

hi sarath.........
          consider you want to have some 10 purchase order numbers in your drop down.
          you will be assigning a node to your drop down.
          in its supply function, write the codings to fill your node by using a select query.
           just like filling a table.
           in this case, your drop down gets filled automatically.
