Log all websites in proxy OS X Server

Hello,
I'm running a new OS X leopard server. I will be running open directory on it and having client machines authenticate using unique usernames in order to get on the network.
I'm thinking I need to run some sort of proxy server on the os x server in order to grab all the requests. I don't need it to do content/web filtering though. I do that further upstream to my internet pipe.
I need to be able to pull a report showing all websites a certain login went to in a certain day. I can build the interface its more of just storing the username->website information.

Use screen sharing to check the server logs and see what's being logged via Console.app or by checking the logs directly, or enable ssh access into the box and see if you can log in via ssh from Terminal.app and see what's going on.
The logs are generally stored in /var/log and /Library/Logs and ~/Library/Logs directories.
What's happened with your server and your network recently?  Anything odd or different or reconfigured?

  • Can Airport Extreme log all websites?

    I am a parent looking to monitor Internet usage for my family.  Ideally I would like the ability to log all URL's visited through the router and track problem sites to a specific device, date, and time.  I've read that some routers allow for this.  I've poked around a bit on my AE router, and although I see some logging functions, I'm not seeing a clear way to enable this sort of functionality.  Is this possible with Airport Extreme?  If yes, how?  If no, can anyone suggest a solution?  [Note, I'm not asking for parenting advice here, as some feel the need to offer this when such questions are posed.  Just looking for an answer to the technical question posed here.]  Thanks for any assistance.

    The AirPort Extreme will not do what you want.
    You might want to take a look at something like OpenDNS. The link is below:

    If your kids have an iPhone or iPad, you can setup Parental Controls on each individual device using a passcode that only you will know.

    Hi, we miss some information;
    - do you use a proxy ?
    - can you provide an ipconfig /all please
    - do you use any firewall product that could block the computer on port 80

  • Since downloading the update for Firefox 3.6.10 all websites that I previously stayed logged into must be logged into everytime I open them. Why? And can this be fixed?

    This has happened with previous Firefox updates but only after the initial update. Once I logged into websites such as facebook, yahoo, hotmail etc. I stayed logged in and was able to access these sites without having to log in each and every time. I have checked all boxes on these and all other sites to remember passwords and to keep me logged in and I still have to log in on each new visit. I rebooted my computer and this did not help. I made sure that Remember Passwords was checked on the Security tab under Options in the Tools for Firefox.

    How can Mozilla be contacted to report this problem directly to them instead of posting to a forum?

  • Firefox logged out of all websites (FB, GOOGLE etc) while I was browsing?

    This is an issue I faced today, I was normally browsing websites while being logged into multiple websites using my user accounts. All of a sudden out of nowhere (and while browsing...not logged out of any websites)....I got logged out of all websites, yes, all the websites I was logged into....is this is a security issue or a browser issue?
    1. I did not clear cache/history/cookies - I am web dev so I know what I was doing?
    2. I did not close FF, I am actually posting this after it happened and without restarting browser.
    3. It happened to all of the websites altogether
    I am concerned whether this is a security issue...and that I need to change passwords for my account

    Still are you facing the issue??

  • Log in with AFP brings down Leopard Server

    Hello everyone. I'm not really sure what the problem is here so I'll do my best to explain how I got here. The problem is that when I accessed an afp share with the Finder, it made the entire server unresponsive for at least 10 minutes.
    Our server is located in a datacenter outside of our office. We have multiple offices and have mobile users, so we chose to colocate it elsewhere. We haven't configured any client machines to use Kerberos or anything like that. I've just enabled a handful of services and we're going to log into them normally. I created all of the users in the Workgroup Manager and discovered that unless their machines are set up to authenticate against Open Directory at login, there's not really a good way to change the password. But even trying to dig deeper I was stumped- I created a test user and added the Open Directory server via Directory Utility to a spare machine. I was able to log into this machine with the account information on the Leopard Server and it was extremely slow because it was not a Mobile account. After configuring the Mobile account, I tried to change the password in system preferences but I would get an error. I found the option in WGM to change the password at the next log on but I was never prompted to change when I logged in. I moved onto another project and left it for later.
    The other day I connected to an AFP share in the Finder as the test user and I was prompted to change my password! I figured this would be the best way to have users set their password: enable the change password at next login option and have everyone use AFP once to change their passwords before using other Leopard services. So I selected 17 users and applied that setting and saved it. Now, here's where the huge problem lies. Three times now I have logged in and gotten an error about the username or password being incorrect and then after entering it a second time the entire server becomes unresponsive for at least 10 minutes. Here's the error in /var/log/secure.log (tubes is the name of the server)
    Jul 10 15:05:51 tubes /usr/sbin/PasswordService[11150]: client response doesn't match what we generated
    Jul 10 15:06:21: --- last message repeated 1 time ---
    I couldn't access any services during this time; web, iCal server, Server Admin, Workgroup Manager, ssh. It wouldn't even respond to ping. The next time I was able to get in was 15 minutes later via ssh...
    Jul 10 15:32:00 tubes sshd[11245]: /etc/sshd_config line 70: Unsupported option KerberosGetAFSToken
    Jul 10 15:32:01 tubes sshd[11245]: Accepted publickey for alan from 66.92.171.175 port 51427 ssh2
    It didn't freeze immediately any time except the last time. The first time I had successfully changed the test user's password, ejected the share, and logged back in. Then I tried as another user and it froze. The second time I tried another real user, got the change password prompt, hit cancel, selected yet another user, and it froze. The third time I went to another machine, one without the server added in Directory Utility, and yet another user still, tried to log in and it froze the system immediately. Each time it froze we were first told the username or password was incorrect.
    If this adds anything to helping solve the problem, we have what I have considered a separate issue, sshd contantly pegs the processor. While there are multiple sshd threads, at least one almost always looks like this
    10649 sshd 99.4% 75:29.45 1 19 51 36K 924K 1492K 21M
    Restarting sshd does not seem to help, it's almost always runs at a very high percentange. It's a dual proc system so it really measures around 48% total, but that's still way too high. Could this be related? I had the network admin force quit sshd the first two times the server became unresponsive but it still took several minutes until I could log in, which hints that they aren't related. I'm having a difficult time finding the sshd logs in Leopard to look them up.
    Here is some more information to hopefully help. From the AFP Access log, the third time, the user brians logged in and it looks like was immediately kicked out for whatever reason. The first time he used his full name and then the second time I had him try his short name. (I'm changing the IP here) The times don't match the secure.log file strangely, but these are in fact the actual times.
    IP 11.22.333.444 - - [10/Jul/2008:15:05:51 -0500] "Login Brian Smith" -5023 0 0
    IP 11.22.333.444 - - [10/Jul/2008:15:05:51 -0500] "Logout Brian Smith" -5023 0 0
    IP 11.22.333.444 - - [10/Jul/2008:15:06:04 -0500] "Login brians" -5023 0 0
    IP 11.22.333.444 - - [10/Jul/2008:15:06:04 -0500] "Logout brians" -5023 0 0
    The AFP Error log only has a single notification, and it's from several days ago saying "server shut down." The Directory Services Server log has no entries for today and neither does the Error log. The Password Service Server log has some interesting information. A user named rose is running iCal Server is the log says that the password needs to be changed, which follows the policy I set, but of course iCal doesn't prompt you to change it.
    Jul 10 2008 16:01:55 AUTH2: {0x484d6d124c59d5b30000000800000008, rose} password change required.

    The Password Service Error log has errors on different times than my problems. It's all the same error, registration is finished error, but are likely unrelated. Also, if it helps, we're running in the Advanced configuration of Leopard Server.
    I hope this isn't too long of a message, I tried to provide all the details as I am desperate to get a solution. I just need to find a way for users to change their passwords before I roll this out to everyone, and I was hoping the prompt when connecting to AFP was what I needed, but now the system is showing itself to be unstable. Any and all help would be highly appreciated.

    I had disabled ssh, thinking that maybe the high proc usage was making the system unstable. I successfully changed the password via AFP twice for one user on my machine. I had someone else do it and it immediately brought down the server. Same thing... I'm really at a loss as to what to do, can someone provide some insight? What logs can I look at for more information? Is there anyway to tell what's happening on the machine during these 10 minutes? The logs I've looked at show nothing.

  • No longer able to log into websites with Safari 3.1

    Ever since updating to Safari 3.1, I can no longer log into websites (such as my company's Campfire account). It looks like I'm having a problem similar to those described by people who were using Cosmopod 2.2, however...
    I don't have (nor have I ever had) Cosmopod installed.
    I also don't have an Input Managers directory in /Library or ~/Library.
    I've removed all my internet plugins in /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    I've reinstalled Safari using the 3.1 standalone installer.
    I've tried to downgrade back to 3.0.4 using the Leopard 10.5.2 combo installer (but I can't seem to actually get the combo installer to run).
    Any thoughts as to other programs which might be causing Keychain hijacking?

    tried it and spent the last 30 min. trying to log in
    as adminstrator..
    still no luck with getting through on secured sites..
    any other thoughts? did the disk utility,etc..
    He is something to try:
    Go into the Control Panel open Accounts, create a new
    user. Log into the new user account, open Safari and
    try connecting to a well know site that uses SSL...
    If it works, it means something is wrong with your

    If it doesn't work, you have to delete system-wide

  • Unable to log into websites since Safari 7.1 upgrades

    Ever since I have upgraded to Safari 7.1, I am no longer able to log into my US Airways frequent flier account.  Clicking on the login button won't do anything.  It worked flawlessly with the previous version.  Also, I use TitanTV to look at TV listings.  There are some pulldown menus that no longer work with Safari 7.1.  They worked with the previous version.  There may be other websites that don't work with the new version, but those are the only two I have noticed so far.  Does this mean these websites have to update their compatibility, or is this a bug with the new version of Safari ?  There's no problem if I use other browsers.  Only Safari 7.1

    From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
    Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If that didn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
    From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Calling error/application logs in CRM inbound proxy

    Hi All,
    In inbound proxy of CRM, I have to call Error/Application logs (for eg:SLG1) whenever an integration process throws some error. Has anyone worked on this kind of scenario to call different application logs in CRM or R3 side inbound proxy.
    If so, please give some ideas on this.

  • Parental Control log showing websites were visited that weren't actually visited

    Trying out the parental controls on 10.8.5.  I log into my child's account, and visited a few websites.  When I went back to parental controls and checked the log, all the websites I visited were there, but there were also several sites in the log that I did not visit, such as Disney.com and the Wall Street Journal website. What's the deal?  Are these just popups that got blocked or something?    I just set up my child's account a couple minutes ago, so I know I'm the only one who has ever accessed it.  Thanks!

    Hi ...
    Disney or WSJ would not be available in history just because the pop up blocker is enabled.

  • WRV54G: Log all internet activity to syslog

    I purchased this product specifically because it claimed to be able to log internet activity to a syslog server.
    I have the product configured:
    - syslog server set up
    - WRV54G is talking to syslog server
    - only configuration activity with WRV54G is being logged (ie only activity to 192.168.1.1)
    - Under General Log, all boxes are checked
    To test the logging, I created a deny rule to a specific site, and accessed this site. WRV54G denied the connection but did not log, even though it is set to log all denies.
    I want to log ALL activity to my syslog server. How do I configure this? Is this a defect?
    Message Edited by riprowan on 06-29-2007 09:16 AM

    What is "logviewer.exe"? It has no help, no readme, no explanation, no way to configure it. WTF is this application? At any rate, I have a syslog server. The WRV54G is logging to it, just not all of the data it's supposed to be logging. I don't need another application. Apparently the latest firmware is what is causing my problem. Please see this conversation about exactly the problem I am experiencing: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18431113-SYSLOG-on-a-WRV54G This is a basic feature of the product (in fact, this is why I bought the product) so I expect it to work. What is the status of this bug and when will it be addressed?

  • Logging app messages into another file than server.log

    Hello:
    I'm working with Application Server Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2 and I'd like logging application messages into another file than server.log.
    I tried to set up a logging configuration file as
    com.appname.handlers = java.util.logging.FileHandler
    ( where all packages in my application are named like com.appname.* )
    and pass it as
    -Djava.util.logging.config.file
    But nothing happens. Indeed , no file is created.
    I tried with
    handlers = java.util.logging.FileHandler
    and works fine but, obviusly, are wrote server messages too.
    So, the problem is 'com.appname.handlers ' property, but I dont know why.
    any workaround to perform this ?
    what's wrong ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards

    Hi,
    The samples are usaully in the samples directory of the appserver install dir. However, this might depend on the server install.
    Anyway, samples can be downloaded from:
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/appserver/reference/codesamples/index.html
    This is a zip file with all the samples stuff
    The actual code in there:
            // import for logging classes
            import java.util.logging.*;
            //Remove all handlers
            Handler[] h = logger.getHandlers();
            for (int i = 0; i < h.length; i++) {
                logger.removeHandler(h);
    //Set it to its parent handler so that it gets NOT (by Robert) printed on the server log
    // In the original sample this is set to true
    logger.setUseParentHandlers(false);
    The actual way of adding your own file log handler:
         // Create a file handler with a string as parameter for filename
          Handler fh = new FileHandler(<LOGFILENAME>);
           // Create a formatter to format the logger
           fh.setFormatter(new SimpleFormatter());
           // Add the handler to logger instance
           logger.addHandler(fh);See the javadocs for formatting stuff,
    HTH Robert
