Log any failed software in TS

When my TS runs for image deployment and one piece of software fails then I have to run the entire deployment TS again. I was hoping that there was a way that I could continue if there is a error but then write a log somewhere were the admin will see it
(Desktop maybe) so that they can install missing software without having to re-image. Has anyone done anything like this before that could give me some ideas on how to achieve this?
I really didn't know what forum this belonged in so let me know if I need to move it.

On each task step/group there is an "Options" tab, in there you will see a checkbox for "Continue on error".  If you tick this checkbox, it will allow the Task Sequence to progress if it encounters an error return from that step/group.
Your techs could probably run a script (post OSD) to check for SOE apps that are not installed.

    Hello Teijo
    sorry about this, but I have checked on both of my two standalone servers(Running similar softwares and settings(host name...etc) independently) I can't see any service registerd by APACHE LISTENER.The only listener service available is for ORACLE8i under the oracle8iHome.
    The only running service under the 9iASHome is HTTPServer.During both installations I didn't encounter any problems,everything ended succefully.Can you p'se let me know if this sounds Ok to you?

    This looks like a tnsnames.ora issue. I copied a reply from a similar post:
    Since you have multiple Oracle homes, you are probably looking at the wrong tnsnames.ora. The reason why SQL*Plus is working is because it is being picked up from an Oracle Home where the correct tnsnames.ora resides. Here is a quick way to confirm this
    - Stop the Apache Listener service
    - Open a "Console prompt window"
    - Go to $IAS_HOME/Apache/Apache
    - Set TNS_ADMIN=Directory_with_correct_tnsnames.ora
    - Issue "tnsping your_dbalias_name" to verify that you can ping the database. If this does not work, then your tnsnames.ora is incorrect
    - If it works, startup Apache by issuing "start Apache -k start"
    - Try connecting to Portal thru your browser
    - This should work.
    - Post a reply if this does not work<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • "Database Log In Failed - TNS could not resolve service name"

    Hello.
    I have an installation of Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Microsoft Windows (32-Bit) using WinXP Pro on my computer.
    I have also installed the compantion CD on the same machine (In a separate home directory) so that I can use PL/SQL.
    I have searched through the forum threads but haven't found any similar problem. The solutions that fixed other peoples problem don't seem to be applicable to mine.
    I have created a user 'antagning' and some tables and also some PL/SQL procedures that compile fine. When I request
    http://localhost:7777/pls/projekt/firsttest
    (firsttest is the procedure. doesn't take any params)
    I get the famous
    Database Log In Failed
    TNS could not resolve service name
    Verify that the TNS name in the connectstring
    entry of the DAD for this URL is valid.
    This is my DAD file:
    <location /pls/projekt>
    SetHandler pls_handler
    PlsqlDatabaseUsername antagning
    PlsqlDatabasePassword antagning
    PlsqlDatabaseConnectString ORCL
    PlsqlAuthenticationMode Basic
    PlsqlErrorStyle DebugStyle
    </location>
    and my tnsnames.ora looks like: (there is only one on the machine so there is no conflicting setups I think)
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =
    localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    finally, this is my sqlnet.ora:
    # sqlnet.ora Network Configuration File: c:\oracle10g\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    # This file is actually generated by netca. But if customers choose to
    # install "Software Only", this file wont exist and without the native
    # authentication, they will not be able to connect to the database on NT.
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
    I haven't set any default domain because the database runs on my local computer and not on a microsoft server in a domain. Is that correctly concluded?
    I get an OK message when I ping my TNS with "tnsping orcl" (Maybe that information is not relevant in the context)
    My webserver is started and is running fine (I think). If I request:
    http://localhost:7777/pls/projekt (without any procedure name)
    I get the message that no procedure is specified to run so I get some sort of answer from the webserver, so far so right.
    When I log in using sqlplus with my own created user account I have to leave the database field empty or the login will fail. If I specify the field with the string orcl
    the login will fail. Does that imply that something is not quite right? Maybe that hasn't got anything to do with the failure message.
    /Fredrik

    Has anyone resolved the problems with using TNSFormat?
    As is, I want to move to a shared server setup and to do that I want to use TNSFormat and point to a tns entry which is setup for IPC+Shared connection.
    But the Oracle Home that has the Oracle HTTP Server (from the companion CD) does not have SQL*net installed and does not seem to understand TNS.
    I have TNS_ADMIN setup, I have ORACLE_HOME_LISTENER poiting to the DB Home.
    for the OHS home, using "sqlplus login/pw@ipcshared" works, but "tnsping ipcshared" does not, since tnsping does not exist in the OHS home.
    I cannot install SQL*Net from the CD1, since it requires a dedicated/new home and does not want to install in the OHS Home.
    The only format that works in a dedicated OHS Home setup is ServiceNameFormat.
    Any help or input would be very helpful.

    ps. This is a redhat linux setup.

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

    I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
    The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
    PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

    Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
    I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

    Hi Ychinnari,
    I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, as
    Vaishu00547 mentioned that the issue can be caused by the Execution Account you have configured in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager is not correct, Please update the Username and Password and restart the reporting services.
    Please also find more details information about when to use the execution account, if possible,please also not specify this account:
    This account is used under special circumstances when other sources of credentials are not available:
    When the report server connects to a data source that does not require credentials. Examples of data sources that might not require credentials include XML documents and some client-side database applications.
    When the report server connects to another server to retrieve external image files or other resources that are referenced in a report.
    Execution Account (SSRS Native Mode)
    If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Can I tell if I have activated any tracking software on my Macbook that will help me find it.

    My Macbook Pro was stolen today.  I know that I have logged into iCloud from this laptop before but I am not sure that I have specifically activated any tracking software.  Can anyone suggest any ideas for tracking this down - unlikely I think.

    Find my Mac may be enabled on your MacBook Pro. To check this, open http://www.icloud.com on any PC or Mac, log in with your Apple ID and choose Find my iPhone. Your Mac's location will show up if it's connected to the Internet, and you will be able to lock or wipe it. Also, you can do this through an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with the Find my iPhone app.
    If you can't track the MacBook, there's no way to locate it at the moment. If the thief erased the MacBook, you won't be able to track it anymore even if you enabled Find my Mac

  • "Log on failed" with ODBC and Stored Procedure

    I am in the process of porting our application from CR10 to CR.NET and am having some trouble setting the log on info.
    I have a report that was designed against a stored procedure and a development database.  The connection at design time is ODBC to a SQL Server.  At runtime I want to set the database and logon credentials to that of the production server, set the stored procedure parameters, and then display the report.  No matter what I do always get "Log on failed" error.
    After having considerable trouble with ApplyLogOnInfo on the tables where it seemed to not actually apply my changes, I finally found code which appeared to work elsewhere on this forum.  So this is the code that I have now, but the call to VerifyDatabase on the report always throws the Log on Failed exception:-
    void SomeClass::SetLogOnInfoForReportRecursively(ReportDocument^ ReportObj)
            CrystalDecisions::Shared::TableLogOnInfo^ l_pTableLogOnInfoToSet = gcnew CrystalDecisions::Shared::TableLogOnInfo();
            CrystalDecisions::Shared::ConnectionInfo^ l_pConnectionInfo = l_pTableLogOnInfoToSet->ConnectionInfo;
            l_pConnectionInfo->AllowCustomConnection = true;
            l_pConnectionInfo->ServerName = gcnew String(m_strServerName);
            l_pConnectionInfo->DatabaseName = gcnew String(m_strDatabaseName);
            l_pConnectionInfo->UserID = gcnew String(m_strUserID);
            l_pConnectionInfo->Password = gcnew String(m_strPassword);
            DbConnectionAttributes^ l_pConnectionAttributes = gcnew DbConnectionAttributes();
            l_pConnectionAttributes->Collection->Set("Database DLL", "crdb_odbc.dll");
            l_pConnectionAttributes->Collection->Set("QE_DatabaseName", String::Empty);
            l_pConnectionAttributes->Collection->Set("QE_DatabaseType", "ODBC (RDO)");
            l_pConnectionAttributes->Collection->Set("QE_SQLDB", true);
            l_pConnectionAttributes->Collection->Set("SSO Enabled", false);
            l_pConnectionInfo->Attributes = l_pConnectionAttributes;
            //main connection
            ReportObj->SetDatabaseLogon(l_pConnectionInfo->UserID, l_pConnectionInfo->Password, l_pConnectionInfo->ServerName, l_pConnectionInfo->DatabaseName, false);
            //other connections
            for each(CrystalDecisions::Shared::IConnectionInfo^ pConnection in ReportObj->DataSourceConnections)
                pConnection->SetConnection(l_pConnectionInfo->ServerName, l_pConnectionInfo->DatabaseName, l_pConnectionInfo->UserID, l_pConnectionInfo->Password);
                //pConnection->SetLogon(l_pConnectionInfo->UserID, l_pConnectionInfo->Password);

            pReportObj->SetParameterValue(param.Key, param.Value);
    pReportObj->VerifyDatabase();
    which then fails.  Can anyone see what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks

    Hi Paul,
    Are you using CR for VS SP 13? If not you can get it here:
    SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio: Updates & Runtime Downloads
    And MS SQL Server does not use a blank database name:
    l_pConnectionAttributes->Collection->Set("QE_DatabaseName", String::Empty);
    Set it to a database used in the report.
    And you don't need to call .Verify, unless the reports are not up to date, which is not recommended, you should be using ReplaceConnection. ( Search for this, KBA's and posts on how to use it )
    So rather that call .Verify try CRTable.TestConnectivity();
    If that fails then you know your log on failed also.
    Curious, if you try to preview the report it should prompt for log on info, if the Server and Database names are grayed out ( not editable ) then CR can't find the client either.
    And MS recommends using the client that matches the version of SQL Server, So if 2005 and less you can use the MDAC SQL Client driver, for MS 2008 then use the SQL Native 10 or above.

    Steven DeSalvo

    Hi StevenDE2012,
    Based on the error message "The report server has encountered a configuration error. Logon failed for the unattended execution account. (rsServerConfigurationError)", it seems that the Unattended Execution Account settings in Reporting Services
    Configuration is not correct.
    Reporting Services provides a special account that is used for unattended report processing and for sending connection requests across the network. Unattended report processing refers to any report execution process that is triggered by an event rather than
    a user request. The report server uses the unattended report processing account to log on to the computer that hosts the external data source. This account is necessary because the credentials of the Report Server service account are never used to connect
    to other computers. To configure the account, please refer to the following steps:
    Start the Reporting Services Configuration tool and connect to the report server instance you want to configure.
    On the Execution Account page, select Specify an execution account.
    Type the account and password, retype the password, and then click Apply.
    In addition, please verify you have access to the Report Server database by following steps:
    Go to SQL Server Reporting Services Configuration Manager, make sure the configuration is correct.
    Go to Database, Verify that you can connect to the database.
    Make sure you are granted public and RSExecRole roles.
    Reference:
    Configure the Unattended Execution Account
    Configure a Report Server Database Connection
    If the problem is unresolved, i would appreciate it if you could give us detailed error log, it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.
    Thanks,

    but, today its one of the Mail.com accounts. I've been on their own site and sent the message. There isn't a problem with Mail.com, or my settings.
    As usual, it worked fine until today.
    I tried inputting the current p.w and creating a new one, but to no avail.
    How do I fix this please ?

    I'm glad to see that the 'colouration' problem was fixed.

    Thanks for your help so far.
    I ''think'' this particular problem is fixed, but as it happens quite often, I have included the details that you asked for, in the hope that you can help me to either clean it up, or see any anomalies.

  • Log the failed logins

    Hi,
    I want to log the failed logins.
    I did :
    touch /var/adm/loginlog
    chmod 600 /var/adm/loginlog
    chgrp sys /var/adm/loginlog
    in /etc/default/login : retries=5 is uncommented ans syslog=yes and syslog_failed_logins=5
    svcadm refresh system/system-log
    vi /etc/security/policy.conf-----lock_after_retries=yes
    Still when I login with the wrong password 5 times by root or ordinary user then check the /var/adm/loginlog file
    It is empty
    It is not showing any logs
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Neha

    What command are you using to attempt the (failed) logins?
    I was able to get this to work by using these 3 steps:
    # touch /var/adm/loginlog
    # chmod 600 /var/adm/loginlog
    # chgrp sys /var/adm/loginlog
    Then, I attempted 5 login attempts into this system with rlogin.
    The newly created log looks like this:
    # more /var/adm/loginlog

  • Itunes can't find any burning software

    when wishing too burn itunes library to disc, itunes fails to find any burining software on pc. Yet i can still burn music in windows media player without failure. HELP!

    If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
    Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
    Current user is an administrator.

  • Unable to access Ipad mini after failed software update

    Can't access my Ipad mini after a failed software update. All I get is a black screen and a note to plug in my device in order to update itunes. The update failed and I am unable to get back in. I have rebooted a couple of times - no luck. Is there any way to bypass the update and get back in?  Any ideas, Please?

    The message telling you to plug into iTunes cannot be bypassed. That is not a message telling you to update iTunes. It is telling you to plug into iTunes on your computer.
    You absolutely must restore the iOS a software or you will never get back into your iPad. You have to restore using iTunes on a computer.
    Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
    However, you will most likely need to use Recovery Mode now.
    If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    Yes its my Time Machine disk that’s damaged. What can I do now? Format the disk and loose all my back-ups?
    You may be able to restore individual items, or even an entire backup, as long as you don't happen to hit the damaged area(s).  But yes, your only real option is to erase the disk and start over.  When you do that, you might want to take the time to have Disk Utility write zeros to the entire disk (see section (b) in the blue box of #1 in Using Disk Utility if you're not sure how to do that) -- if that fails, you know the disk itself is failing and must be replaced.  If it succeeds, the drive may be ok.
    And how can I prevent this in the future. I know at least I had to have a second back up disk but I never did that.
    You probably don't know yet what caused it.  If it's the disk failing, obviously you need a new one.  Other things that can cause disk corruption are power blips, being disconnected improperly, or your Mac crashing or losing power while the disk is connected, especially during a backup.
    For power problems, the best solution is a U.P.S. (battery backup) system.  A good surge protector will protect against power spikes, but not dips or sudden loss of power.
    I allready tried several times to change ownership with Get Info but I can’t. I don’t see a checkmark and the
    section isn’t clickable either. Any other suggestions?

  • Word fax log for failed faxes

    Where do you find the fax log for failed faxes in order to resend them?
    Any help would be appreciated.  I an a mac newbee and am trying to get up to speed.

    Well, on my iMac, Command + P brings up my Epson print dialog, not anything Fax related.
    The only way I can fax as well is to use my Epson AIO using the display window on the printer. There is no other way I know of. And yes, I have to print it and it may be a waste, but Apple has decided that faxing is passe. They used to include a built in modem, then sold an external USB modem - and now, nothing.
