Log4j ejb weblogic

Hi all,
I am using weblogic workshop 8.1 and I have created an EJB. I want to put logging statements in that using log4j.
I modified "workshopLogCfg.xml" and I am able to log the statements. But as this is server configuration file I wont be able to put this in my .ear file.
I want one log4j.xml file in my .ear so that when I ship .ear file, logging is not affected.
I have put log4j.xml in classes and log4j.jar in lib folders of APP-INF of weblogic application. And added following line in META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file
"Class-Path: APP-INF/lib/log4j.jar APP-INF/lib/ APP-INF/classes/"
and also tried
"Class-Path: lib/log4j.jar lib/ classes/"
but both of these approach not working.
Please help me in this.. ITS REALLY URGENT.
Thanks.

It won't work by specifying the classpath in the manifest file of the ear itself.
You will have to specify these files in the Class-Path attribute of manifest files of all the modules (EJB, web, etc.) in your ear file.

  • Log4j and weblogic workshop server 8.1 ?

    Can someone please point out how to setup log4j in weblogic 8.1? I put the log4j.jar file in my server classpath, and in the server startup script I put -Dlog4j.configuration=/path/to/log4.properties in the JAVA_OPTIONS. I can't still get log messages to show in the console. log4j.properties content is:
    log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG, stdout
    log4j.appender.stdout=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
    log4j.appender.stdout.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
    log4j.appender.stdout.layout.ConversionPattern=%d [%t] %-5p %c{2} %x - %m%n
    In my code, I use the org.apache.log4j.Category class to log messages. For example, static Category cat = Category.getInstance(MyClass.class);
    cat.debug("a message");
    Is there something I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    In my setDomainEnv.cmd script which should be located where your workshop domain is installed, I did the following:
    # Commented out the following line
    @REM set JAVA_PROPERTIES=%JAVA_PROPERTIES% -Dlog4j.configuration=file:%LOG4J_CONFIG_FILE% %CLUSTER_PROPERTIES%
    # Set a variable LOG4J_PROPS_FILE to point to the location where my
    # log4j properties file is located. NOTE: Full Path required
    set LOG4J_PROPS_FILE=/bea/user_projects/domains/workshop/log4j.properties
    # Updated my JAVA_PROPERTIES variable to look like the following:
    set JAVA_PROPERTIES=%JAVA_PROPERTIES% -Dlog4j.configuration=file:%LOG4J_PROPS_FILE% %CLUSTER_PROPERTIES%
    Originally, I had everything setup correctly except for my JAVA_PROPERTIES. Note that the option
    -Dlog4j.configuration=file:%LOG4J_PROPS_FILE% %CLUSTER_PROPERTIES% has the word "file:" in it.
    What I had that was not working was -Dlog4j.configuration=%LOG4J_PROPS_FILE% %CLUSTER_PROPERTIES%
    so I added the file: infront of the LOG4J_PROPS_FILE variable.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can configure .properties file and  log4j on weblogic 8.1 SP5

    Hi,
    I know this is not right forum for post this question.But I hope I'll get my perfect answer here.
    I have 2 questions.
    1. Where I'll keep my .properties file in weblogic 8.1 SP 5. means I have one own .properties file which is contains some proxy settings and this .properties resides on .war file(now), But I want move this propeties file outside .war file. So Where I'll keep in weblogic 8.1 SP 5.
    2. How can we configure log4j in weblogic?
    Please reply me.
    Regards,
    Pattanaik

    You can add your.properties and log4j.properties to the classpath cant you?
    You just need to edit setEnv.cmd (if i remember correctly) in your weblogic server folder to add the folder containing the properties files to the classpath variable.

    Sample code alongwith log4jConfig.xml and other required jsr files would be helpful.
    I want to store all the log messages to defult weblogic dirctory. i.e base_doman\servers\AdminServer\logs

    Do you want your app to log messages using log4j (in which case the setup is no different in WLP than with any other app using log4j, read the log4j docs) or do you want weblogic server messages to be sent to Log4j?

  • Configuring Log4j for weblogic

    Hi
    can any one tell me how to configure Log4j for weblogic. I have added the log4j jar files to the weblogic classpath but it does not seem to work..
    Thanks and Regards
    Narayan

    You must make a new directory on the same level with applications directory, place "log4j.properties" file in it, include this directory in the "PRE_CLASSPATH" entry in your startup script and that's all.
    Sample line in "startWebLogic.cmd" script
    'set PRE_CLASSPATH=%_LIBJARS%;classes'
    in classes dir you have "log4j.properties"
    Should work,

    Hi,
    I'm trying to look up a LOCAL EJB (Weblogic 8.1):

    I realized that the Weblogic JNDI tree shows a red dot next to the name SecurityDataHelperLocalHome: as the other names are not red, I could guess there was something wrong at deployment... buy deployment logs are OK. What I am doing wrong???

    Hi Dan,
    As u have targeted the ConnectionFactory to "soa_server1" which is running on "realHostName:7001" ....Can u please check from the AdminConsole that the JNDI name ""jms/b2b/B2BQueueConnectionFactory" is present in the JNDI Tree?
    AdminConsole---->Servers---soa_server1 (click) ---> in this general configuration page you will see a link "View JNDI Tree" please ckick on that link to see the JNDI tree entries.
    If you dont see any JNDI entry there then it means there is something wrong while setting up the Connection Factory in that case please refer to the Screenshots of Creating and Targeting the Connection Factory: *http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=1987*

  • Log4J with Weblogic Server 10

    Hi,
    We are migrating an EJB application from Weblogic 8.1 to Weblogic 10.0
    In the current configuration, we simply include the following in the server startup script, so as to specify the log4j configuration file, and this takes care of the logging part.
    -Dlog4j.configuration=file:<complete file name>
    The same thing doesn't work with WL 10. Is there any other (special) way of using Log4j with WL 10?
    Note that inside the code, we use commons-logging to get hold of the logger as follows:-
    org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory.getLog(class)
    I would be grateful for any help on this.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Application specific logging with Log4j on weblogic 8.1

    Hi,
    For a few days now, I have been trying to implement application specific logging using Log4j (1.2.x) for my 3 applications running on the same server (8.1.6). All three application war files are generated from same source. I followed the example of Jboss in setting up the Hierarchy for logging using RepositorySelector. In my case Java class which implements RepositorySelector is loaded through ServletContextListener from jar file placed in WEB_INF/lib folder and log4j.properties file is in WEB-INF folder of each application.
    Independent logging of each application takes place correctly, if the applications are deployed from console. However logging fails if weblogic is shutdown and restarted, in this case logging takes place from 2 classes only implementing filters of each application. Logging from other classes is not taking place. I am spinning my wheels on this and can't seem to figure out what the issue is.

    Hi,
    I am using weblogic 6.1 and oracle 8.1.6, and experiences
    problems with connections pools and database crash.
    When the database server crashes during an EJB transactions,
    the connection used by that transaction seems to be lost and
    is never rebuilt when the database server restarts, therefore
    the number of connections within the pool shrinks thoroughly
    if I have several connections used while the database crashes
    or is shutdown for maintenance.
    If this db crash takes time to recover, all connections
    are destroyed and the pool become unusable.
    As soon as all connections have been 'destroyed' I have
    the following exception:
    'connection pool - none available' when trying to get
    a connection.
    When I restart the database server, the pool does not rebuilt
    itself.
    (I am using a test table to test the presence of the database
    with a frequency set to 60s)
    I did the same operation without EJB transactions and the pool
    could rebuilt itself after the database has been restarted.
    I had that problem with weblogic 6.0 already and in the
    release notes of 6.0_sp2, 2 issues are fixed concerning
    the pool fail-over: 044223 and 041793.
    I would like to know if these issues are fixed in 6.1 as well,
    and if they are related to my problem (Their description is
    quite short).
    Thank you

  • Log4J on Weblogic vs Log4J on JBoss

    I am working on migrating from JBoss to WebLogic 10. I am able to successfully setup Log4J on WL with a small problem. What I did to configure Log4J was the following.
    . Change the Logging implementation from the WL console to use Log4J
    . Replace the jboss appenders in the Log4J.xml(org.jboss.appender.DailyRollingFileAppender) to Log4J's DailyRollingFileAppender.
    . Added the required Log4J jars to the server classpath
    The problem I am having is, WL is logging too much information onto the console and since it is doing that, the same app with similar Log4J's is slower on WebLogic as compared to JBoss.
    Is there another setting I need to change to not have WebLogic spit everything out to the console? I compared the thresholds in the JBoss' Log4J vs WL Log4J and everything is the same. Can someone please explain why the difference?
    Thanks.

    You can add your.properties and log4j.properties to the classpath cant you?
