Logging approach for a SOA application

Hi All,
I am working on a design for logging in an integrated application which uses the Oracle SOA suite for a telecom industry solution. I have a BSS system which interacts with the SOA suite to communicate to OSS systems( Network elements in telecom).
I am interested in developing an approach for system logs and audit logs. Since all the system are disparate, can someone suggest a good approach. and references.
Thanks,
Purushottaman

At a high level there are two types of logging. System Logging for technical diagnostic problem and Logging for Auditing / Tracking that involves reporting business data
In any SOA integration its better to differentiate these two entirely different categories of logging to detect and resolve problems within a IT infrastructure.
The next hurdle would be to create a centralized hook for logging (not necessarily a central log ) that can integrate various logging formats by individual system at the same time have minimum dependencies between applications.
Taking into consideration challenges due to disparate services , multiple servers, different interaction schemes, and different types of user activities it helps to rely on ESB.

  • Single log in for multiple apex application in same workspace

    hi forum.
    We created 5 applications based on same schema and all in one workspace now. Actually, initially they were created on different machines. now, we have to authenticate users from AD and depending on user type, have to allow or deny some modules. i have created one pager application which have 5 buttons and can control rendering of buttons according to user logged in but...the problem is, inside the applications, i have restrictions on some reports for some users...now one way was to do that is to create a log in for every application separately and thus every application would exactly know who is logged in. but that would be impractical as we need single-sign-on kind of functionality.
    please let me know how to have a single log in page work for all application inside the apex workspace so that every application would know name of the user currently logged in.
    for the 5 applications, i actually use No_Authentication authentication scheme. and i use following function initially for my one pager application to render the buttons to user or deny
    create or replace function getUserName return varchar2
    is
       userName varchar2(20);
       c owa_cookie.cookie;
    begin
        c := owa_cookie.get('LOGIN_USERNAME_COOKIE');
        userName := c.vals(1);
        return trim(userName);
    end;but i cannot user this function obviously in my 5 actual applications.
    help is requested please.
    bundle of thanks in advance.

    You can create one application that does the login authentication according to your authentication scheme. When authenticated, this login app sets a cookie. That's all the login app does (and maybe show a list of available apps to choose from).
    The other apps have an even simpler authentication scheme. The only thing they have to do is check the cookie and redirect to the login page (Session Not Valid URL) if there is no valid cookie.

  • Configure Log File for each web application deployed in weblogic server usi

    Hi All,
    How do I configure Log4J to log separately for each web application? i.e. Assuming, I have a web application "AWeb" and a web application "BWeb". I need a log file to be created for AWeb Separately and BWeb Separately. i.e. All the log information for "AWeb" web application will be stored in AWeb.log and all the "BWeb" web application will be stored in BWeb.log
    Do you have any sample code and configuration details for the above-mentioned requirement?
    Thanks in Advance,
    C R Baradwaj

    You do not need to do anything strange, just use log4j the usual way with the exception that you do not need to init log4j (this is not necesary when using a log4j.xml.)
    A minimal sample of a log4j.xml is
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <!DOCTYPE log4j:configuration SYSTEM "log4j.dtd">
    <log4j:configuration xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/">
    <appender name="ConsoleAppender" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender">
    <layout class="org.apache.log4j.SimpleLayout"/>
    </appender>
    <root>
    <priority value ="debug" />
    <appender-ref ref="ConsoleAppender"/>
    </root>
    </log4j:configuration>
    You just have to be sure that you have different log4j.xml in your classpath for different web applications.

  • What is the best MVC approach for designing Swing application

    Hi...
    I am designing an client/server application. In this I am using java swing for the front-end development. We decided on using MVC approach for the front-end design. I found that there are more than one approachs for designing in MVC.
    Which is the best way to model. To create your model taking View into consideration or Creating the Model taking the tables into consideration.
    Can anybody give help me out in this this is urgent. Thanks
    sai

    I'm not sure what you are asking, so I'll just ramble a bit and hope it helps.
    Create your model taking the view and the data into consideration. :-)
    Design a class to hold instances of the rows in your database that correspond (more or less) to the structure of the data. Add any needed methods to that data object to support the data that you might need for the view.
    For example, suppose your database stores a name in two columns (firstname and lastname). You pull that data from the database into a collection of Person objects into your model. Your Person class has two fields (and set/get methods) to hold that data. Now, in your view, you want to display the name as one string, so add a method to the Person object to get the full name (just by concatenating the two data elements).
    You have to take everything into consideration. How you are going to view the data as well as how it might be structured.

  • Log configuration for CRM ISA Application.

    Hi all,
    I have setup the log configurations using the following SAP  Note:1017756
    But, the following information which is mentioned in the attached file is not clear. Can any one clarify this. what is the meaning of this.
    "After making the required settings, note that you still have to start the session log in the Internet
    Sales application by setting the request parameter appinfo to true, or by using the u201CSingle Session
    Traceu201D link on the start.jsp"
    Advance Thanks

    Hi
    After making the required settings, note that you still have to start the session log in the Internet
    Sales application by setting the request parameter appinfo to true, or by using the u201CSingle Session
    Traceu201D link on the start.jsp
    --> Session log requires to take a trace from the ADMIN XCM, through which you can trace the errors within your web shop application.
    The session log can be taken from the link -
    http://applicaiton name:port/b2b/admin/index.jsp
    Once you login to the above link (the application name and the port is applicable to your project), on the left hand menu, you will find the option for "Session Trace"
    --> Also, from the XCM application (such as B2B,B2C etc), (XCM Settings), you need to set Single Session Trace = True.
    Hope this will help

  • Design approach for custom Fiori application

    Dear Experts,
    Good day to all...!
    I am having a query on finalizing design approach for one of my custom Fiori Application development  using SAP UI5.
    Current Application design and  Features:
    As now we are having application, which is been used in laptops. The application structure is like (SAP R3 --> SUP -->UI (using .net) [back-end à Middlewareà UI).
    The UI is hosted on IIS server and the application type is desktop, so the users can use the application in offline as well.
    Once its connected to internet, they push all the data back to SAP via SUP.
    Proposal :
    We are planning to migrate the same application into Fiori with same offline features and extending to mobiles and devices.
    I have few queries here.
    What will be the best approach to deploy the application either SUP(Latest version of SMP) or SAP R3.
    If SAP R3 to deploy App:
    If we choose to deploy the application in R3, How to support the offline usage mobile and devices.
    Will the HTML5 local storage or indexed DB’s are sufficient to support the offline usage.
    In this case, Shall we drop the SUP/SMP, Since the application directly accessed from SAP R3 ..?
    SUP/SMP to deploy the app:
    In this case, I need to create (wrap the ui5 files into hybrid application) a hybrid application to support the mobile and devises as native application..? Correct me If I am wrong..:)
    Hope I can use the SUP/SMP local storage options to support my offline usage..? Correct me If I am wrong..:)
    What will be the best option to support desktop offline  usage.
    We are yet to take a decision on this.. Please provide your valuable inputs , which will help us to take some decisions.
    Thanks & Regards
    Rabin D

    Hi Anusha,
    considering the reusability aspect the components approach is the much better one (see also the best practices dev guide chapter regarding components SAPUI5 SDK - Demo Kit).
    It allows you to reuse that component in different applications or other UI components.
    I also think that the Application.js approch will not work with Fiori, cause the Fiori Launchpad loads the Components.js of the Fiori app in an Component Container.
    Best Regards, Florian

  • Runtime Logs for Biller Direct Application

    Experts - For Internet Sales Application(ISA), we set up "tracing.isa.runtime" in the Log Configurator to get the runtime log files generated, which would have all the Java Action class flows and the Fucntion Modules called details.
    Do anyone know How I can generate the same kind of file for the Biller Direct(BD) Application. What do I have to do to generate the runtime log files for the BD Application.
    Let me know if anyone has any idea.
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
    Try to follow below SAPNOTE
    SAPNOTE-921409-Enable session tracing in mySAP CRM 5.0 java components
    SAPNOTE-1017756-E-Commerce 5.0-Creating own Log-Trace Files
    SAPNOTE-975115-How to On-Off ECO RUNTIME trace in 7.0 J2EE
    You can change ISA with your Biller direct application name and where they have used "com.sap.isa" you shoud use biller direct application package name. (I do not have exact idea about biller direct package name)
    If you try to follow above SAP NOTES you will able to create logfile for Biller direct. There is no document which specify only biller direct log creation process. You have to follow above notes with little modification for your biller direct application.
    I hope this will help you to create log file for biller direct with little extra work.
    Regards.

  • J2ee logging approach

    hi,
    i am currently exploring on what approach to use for logging messages for my application. i am using the sun one appserver and stateless ejb's. may i know the best logging approach for ejb's? is there a logging software that would require less coding for logs? thanks.
    regards,
    andrew

    Well, that's not quite fair. With Commons Logging you can use log4j, or jdk1.4 logging, or build your own logger. You're still tied into the Commons Logging system (as much as you're tied into anything) but it's more flexible than log4j specifically.
    IIRC you can build adaptors to use other loggers into log4j as well, but it's tricker. Commons Logging makes it easier, but has the overhead of requiring another layer to your configuration.
    Like everything it's a tradeoff.

  • Usage of SAP Event Management as backend for custom mobile applications

    Hi,
    I'm am looking for an appropriate implementation approach for custom mobile applications as complement for warehouse processes with SAP Extended Warehouse Management.
    Possible scenarios:
    i) Goods issue - loading process
    There are requirements like capturing of various data about the vehicle and load per RF handheld computer. The goal is to trace and archive them for analysis and reporting purposes.
    ii) Goods receipt -production process
    The production supply and goods receipt from production are realized in SAP EWM. The request is to collect data about the production process for quality reasons by use of RF devices.
    You can picture oneself the additional mobile data entry activities during the various processes as predefined question catalogues with answer options.
    The frontend - the additional mobile transactions can be realized with the EWM-Radio-Frequency-Framework, too. But I feel confindent that there is a better way to track, trace, store, analyse, report and archiv of the collected data to Y-TABLES.
    Would you recommend to use SAP Event Management for this purpose to complement the SAP EWM processes?
    The existing requirements as described above is in my understanding only a little fraction of the capabilities of SAP Event Management. The data collection and evaluation process is local within the warehouse. At first there is not requested any automatic system behaviour to particular events...
    There are a lot material and information about SAP Event Management. But I havent found an easy getting started for my simple business scenario to enhance the EWM processes with the EM capabilities. How I could realize a question/anwer catalogue with the EM tools?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    Laura

    Hello Laura,
    principally the process would fit for EM. But EWM is not integrated up to now to EM i.e. you would have to do the connection from EWM to EM by your own.
    How to generally connect an application to EM is described here:
    service.sap.com/scm
    -> Event Managament
    -> Technical Information
    -> Connect SAP objects to SAP EM

  • How to create different log files for each of web applications deployed in OC4J

    Hi All,
    I am using OC4J(from Oracle) v1.0.2.2 and Windows2000. Now I want to know
    1. how to create different log files for each of my deployed web applications ?
    2. what are the advantages in running multiple instances of oc4j and in what case we should run
    multiple instances of OC4J ?
    3. how to run OC4J as Windows2000 Service rather than Windows2000 Application ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi Avi,
    First of all I have given a first reading to log4j and I think there will some more easy way of logging debugging messages than log4j (If you could provide me a detailed explanation of a servlet,jsp,java bean that uses log4j and how to use log4j then it will be very helpful for me). The other easy ways (if I am not using log4j) to my problem i.e creating different log files for each of web applications deployed in oc4j are
    I have created multiple instances of OC4J that are configured to run on different ports and so on each instance I have deployed a single web application . And I started the 2 oc4j instances by transferring thier error/log messages to a file. And the other way is ..
    I have download from jakarta site a package called servhelper . This servhelper is a thread that is started in a startup servlet and stopped in the destroy method of that startup servlet. So this thread will automatically capture all the system.out.println's and will print those to a file. I believe that this thread program is synchronized. So in this method I need not run multiple instances of OC4J instead each deployed web application on single instance of oc4j uses the same thread program (ofcourse a copy of thread program is put in each of the deployed web applications directories) to log messages on to different log files.
    Can you comment on my above 2 approached to logging debugging messages and a compartive explanation to LOG4J and how to use LOG4J using a simple servlet, simple jsp is appreciated ...
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • Best approach for a cross language application

    I am working on a project where we are planning to write the data acquisition code in LabVIEW, but the rest of the application is being written in C# by some developers that are unfamiliar with LabVIEW. I am looking for suggestions for the best architecture for this kind of application.
    Traditionally, in my LabVIEW applications that require UI, data aquisition, logging, and analysis, I generate a tiered producer consumer architecture. I usually build a queued event driven producer/consumer, and then create additional consumer loops to handle data as it propogates out of the acquisition loop. In this project, I am basically looking to only create the acquisition loop in LabVIEW, with the rest of the "loops" being generated by the C# guys using .NET 4.0 CLR.
    The original plan was to make my loop as I usually would in LabVIEW and build it as a .NET interop. I hadn't really sorted it out yet, but the plan was to basically get configure and start commands from the C# gui (not sure how to replace the queue here), and use some event to get the analysis parts of the program to trigger at appropriate times based on data availability. It's come to my attention that LabVIEW generated .NET interops can not run in 4.0 CLR applications though, so I'm looking for alternatives.
    Basically, I'd like to hear about similar applications and what has worked and not worked. I'm particularly interested in good approaches for interprocess communication between LabVIEW and a .NET app, and also any thoughts on triggering actions in the .NET app from the LabVIEW portion (can this be done without the .NET code polling something?).
    Thanks!
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    C. Minnella wrote:I'm particularly interested in good approaches for interprocess communication between LabVIEW and a .NET app, and also any thoughts on triggering actions in the .NET app from the LabVIEW portion (can this be done without the .NET code polling something?).
    whenever it comes to communication between windows applications, I don't stop recommending the highly underrated Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) infrastructure and in my opinion, it actually screams to be used in your scenario:
    1. Let LabVIEW collect the data and place it into a designated data queue.
    2. Let C# exe attach to queue and do the data retrieval/evaluation/storage/whatever by OnMessageReceived events.
    3. Let C# send control messages to a second queue, that is read by LV.
    MSMQ is increadibly easy to use, yet very powerfull and has so many aspects and benefits for interprocess communication, especially between different machines in a LAN - a real pity that it's so little known. Just have a look at the following thread, especially at the tiny LabVIEW example I've placed there: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/MSMQ-with-Labview/m-p/154334
    This could be done better on the LabVIEW side (event based rather than polling), but as you just want to send some configuration and control commands, it's okay like this.
    Unfortunately, there are not too many good resources about MSMQ on the web that explain the coding basics well.The MSDN magazine has some great articles if you're somewhat experienced (like http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163920.aspx ). What I found really helpful and gives a great introduction is this book: http://amzn.com/1590593464
    Give MSMQ try and have fun with it!
    Cheers,

  • File system log files for SOA Gateway

    Hi All,
    I need to get log files for my integration repository/SOA Gateway since I'm not able to generate any WSDL or to deploy a web service. In the SOA trouble shoot document, it says:
    Log on to Oracle E-Business Suite with the username that has the System Administrator responsibility access privilege.
    Select the System Administrator responsibility from the Navigator and choose Oracle Applications Manager > Logs.
    Click Log Setup to open the Java System Property Settings page.
    Click the Site link and enable log for
    Midtier Log File Name: Enter the file name that you would like on the middletier, for example, '/tmp/SOA /tmp/SOALog.log'.
    Module=Enter an appropriate module name, for example, 'fnd.soa%'.
    Ask your System Administrator to bounce oafm container.
    Perform any SOA specific action, such as generate a WSDL file for an PL/SQL API.
    Look for logs in the file specified in the Midtier Log File Name field.
    My problem is, that my EBS installation is running on windows, so '/tmp/SOA /tmp/SOALog.log' will not work, right? I tried something like /temp/... or c:/temp/... or c:\temp\... but I did not get a logfile called SOALog.log.
    What do I have to provide as path here?
    Many thanks,
    Konrad

    Hi!
    Did you encounter any error?Yes!
    >
    try givng C:\temp remember temp should have read and write permissions for the oracle applications o/s user(applmgr)Using c:\temp\test.log results in the following error while saving the log setting:
    An error has occurred!
    For input string: "10001:\temp\test.log"
    I can use whatever string I want, but as long as a ":" is included, I get that error.
    As for the user permissions. I installed the EBS using the standard Administrator account and this account is a member of Administrators and ora_dba.

  • Log messages for 'auditing' are different in 'general'  and'application log

    Hi,
    From UI, When I audit a file using a profile which comprises of user-defined 'rules/categories/analyzers', I will get log messages at ''File-name(Application) log window' and 'Messages' log window, which are located at bottom of Jdev UI page. One common message in both the log windows is
    " <n1> violations, <n2> exceptions, <n3> documents, <n4> seconds>.
    But here the 'n1,n2,...' numbers are dfferent in two windows though the log output is for a same file. In this the 'file-name' log shows the correct
    Example:-
    In 'file-name' log window ,it shows as:
    3 documents, 8 violations, no exceptions
    In messages window, it shows as
    "Audit starting on EFC.jpr (Default)
    Audit completed: no violations, no exceptions, 3 documents, 1 second"
    If I use the 'pre-existed'(Jdev's) rules profile, I will get similar output in both log windows.
    From this I concluded that there is something missing to register for a new 'rule/category/analyzer'.
    Could you suggest me in this case. Do I forgot anything to do in any files of '<rule-implementation.java>', 'audit.properties', <add-in launcher>.java, extension.xml.
    Actually, I want to use 'ojaudit' executable from command line to my project files. Here I observed that the output of the 'ojaudit' is similar to the above explained 'Message' log window in JDeveloper UI. But where the 'Message' log window output is not correct for user-defined rules.

    Romano,
    In the upcoming production release (planned to be released next week), we added caching of authorized roles and permissions in JhsAuthorizationProxy class.
    I suggest you wait for this relase, if the problem persists, it is most likely an ADF issue (as is the logging)
