Logging: GUI for XML output? (Like Chainsaw for Log4j)?

There is a nice GUI tool to view XML formatted output from Log4J log files. Is there some similar tool for Java logging XML formatted output?

Easiest and/or best methods for generating XML output (not with a report)

Hi, several of our EBS customers (11.5.10) are converting their PDF reports to use XML/BI publisher to produce output. The data stream comes from a report that generates the XML output, and then the XML template is applied. This works great ... no problems, etc. From what I have read, however, Oracle intends to treat the traditional Forms and Reports Developers as legacy tools (although still supporting them, of course).
My question is if I wanted to ditch using Reports to generate XML output, what, in your opinion or in your current usage, is the easiest way of getting this data? In Reports, the data modeler is excellent in providing a method to write your queries, split them into different repeating groups, write formula and summary columns, link multiple queries, etc, etc. If one were to become Reports Developer free, what comparable tools are available to take its place? I would expect this tool to handle a mix of GUI and coding like the Reports data modeler. Please note that I'm not looking for an EBS-specific solution -- say for a custom application using regular Oracle 10g DB and iAS, with BI Publisher for reporting.

What I'm looking for is to not use Oracle Reports to generate the XML data output since Oracle's statement of direction is pushing BI Publisher rather than Oracle Reports as the preferred tool for reporting. That said, the data modeler in Reports provides a very flexible tool to construct and link multiple queries and to manipulate the queries into several levels of a master/detail relationship. Further, the mix of GUI and coding makes setting up the data model a lot more efficient. What I'm looking for (and I don't know if anything exists) is something comparable that can be used to generate XML output from the DB -- the idea being that I wouldn't use legacy tools, like Reports, for this task. I hope that is clearer.
Really, another way of answering my question is, aside from Reports and the APIs mentioned so far, what are my fellow developers using, if anything, to extract XML data in a way that handles the features i list above?

Report painter report in portal - Excel output in SAP GUI for HTML

Dear sirs,
I need your expertize. I would like to let my users display (Excel in place)/ save the result of my report painter reports into MS Excel. I have found notes 499262 a 314568, but didn´t understand the message (or there is no message:)). Does that mean I cannot use Excel in place together with Report painter and SAP GUI for HTML?
Second question: is there a place (user exit in generated code? I don´t even know what I am looking for) to get the data provided by the report painter engine and send the retrieved data to some custom function (to be able to call the Adobe form, to save it as a text file or any option how to manipulate the resulting data...?).

Hi Otto,
You can send print the report to the spool and then use RSTXPDFT4 program to convert this spool to PDF file. Alternatively, you can export the spool to spreadsheet or ASCII file via SP01 transaction.
Additinally, I'm not aware of unability to use Excel output with SAP GUI interface.

How can print blank rows for XML output report..

I am working in XML output PO fix format report and in that report there is 3 sections. (1) Header section(2)Line section (3) Footer section. My requirement is like this, header and footer section print in all pages and line section break for next page after printing fix 15 lines in a page. And if any page has less then 15 lines then it generate remaining blank row to maintain footer position.
Please suggest me, how can i generate blank rows and break lines for page if there is more then 15 rows in Line section.

Please help! XML output needed for OBIEE report.

Hi,
I need an xml output of the OBIEE report. I have tried extrating the xml result using GO url but the xml format is not satisfactory. The default output assigns C0,C1..column names to each column data while on the other hand I need the name of the column and not C0 or C1.
Hence, can anyone please suggest as to how can I format the OBIEE xml output internally i.e. without doing it manually.
Please let me know if more explanation is required.

Thanks for the response but unfortunately Bi Publisher is even not giving the required output.
The output of Bi Publisher is like

In both the cases I get leading and trailing tags which are not required. Ideally according to the requirement C0 should have been Trade ID, C2 - Cancellation option and so on.
The BI Publisher does give the output to some ectent but lans up capturing the table name also as u see it is Trades.Trades Id. I even reuire few extra tags which caary report information and this data is not being pulled from database.
Hence please help!! I am really very much confused!!

No processing log generated from the output type for the IDOC

Dear experts,
the output type which is triggered with a transmission medium Special Function has not generated any IDOC.
The question is what is the role of a Special function and EDI transmission.
In some cases the system has generated an IDOC and some cases not. The output is pickedup automatically, but
does not always trigger an IDOC, Thats is the issue I am facing.
Therefore in cases where there was no IDOC created there is no processing log generated.
KIndly help.

The status is green, and when I try to show the IDOC it doesnt show and no processing log.
The same output is processed for a delivery and it creates a IDOC but sometimes it doesnt.

How to Create XML output for EFT payments.....?

I am new to creating eText templates. My Understanding is to get XML output then build a template based on the XML output. Right or wrong I am not totally sure. Either way, here is what I need to accomplish and I am not sure where to start.
(We are in R12....)
Select EFT payments and create EFT output to send to the bank. I am looking for some guidence. Is there a generic payment program I can relate to an eft payment bank to generate the xml output? Is there a template already built for EFT payments? Does anyone out there have a solution that they are willing to share? Any guidence would be greatly appreciated.

Good question. The app XML file I was referring to was the one in the source folder. It seems that Flash Builder (or something else, hard to say) is having trouble parsing the brackets and so it's preventing the test app from launching.
I just told my project to "Execute FlexUnit Tests" again to repro the problem to verify.

I'm unclear why Flash Builder is modifying this file (in the source folder) at all. Should the app XMLs be read-only configurations?

When running an xml publisher report the xml output leads to 9 mb and the excel output file leads to 20 mb.But the output records is originally 4000 records. When copy to new excel it is showing 3.5 mb only. Does anyone knows the answer for this issue?

This issue is because the Excel output from BI Publisher is MHTML (XML Publisher generates XHTML) not binary .xls.
MHTML and XHTML are more verbose formats than binary .xls.
It will be large because the current Excel output is just an HTML and not compressed like PDF. Please use the workaround (save it as .xls file). This is a known limitation of RTF layout templates.
BI Publisher Enterprise has a new feature True Excel Templates. The layouts generate binary Excel output.

Are there any oracle functions like abs() available
in data_template to be used as follows

I want the absolute value of the amount .
OR
Can I HIDE the xml Element like

You can do this abs in Template.
use xdoxslt:abs or abs from xsl.
if you want the data in the xml to habe absolute value , then write pl/sql package to this .
<element name="amount" value="yourpcakage.yourabs(amount)"/>
or do it in sql query, which you dont want to.

Unable to use the Copy function while submitting the program for XML output

when i submit the concurrent program with XML output type, getting the output..
when i submit he concurrent program using the copy button not able to get the output,
my observation
while submitting the program the xml template is not called....
Diagnostics--> view xml -- able to view the ouput.
do let me know if any of the steps is missing while registration in the xml responsibility..
this is only with the custom conc program.. the standard program is working fine...
do help me out..

It's really a little difficult to answer your question without a bit more information. What version of JDeveloper are you using? What's your technology stack?

If, as it looks like, this is really a question about generic JSPs (no JSF), you might actually have a bit more success on a generic JSP forum--using scriptlets hasn't really been best practices within JDev since...well, since JSTL became available, really. That was a number of years ago.
Like I said, there's really no direct way to use Javascript output in a scriptlet--unless you mean something like storing Javascript output in a hidden field, and using the value in a scriptlet on the next request. But by the time Javascript runs, any scriptlet from the current request will already have executed.

How to add comment in xml output.

XML output for pdf concurrent program

Hi,
We have one custom concurrent program defined with output as pdf.
We want to generate an xml output some times. We dont want to register another concurrent program.
We want to use same concurrent program, but want to generate output some times pdf , some times xml.
Please suggest whether any possible way of doing this even using CONCSUB also fine.

We want to submit the concurrent program, but output type either as xml or pdf it will be known during runtime.AFAIK if you prepare template in XML publisher than you can take output as pdf, by the way you can take xml output too

R12 Check Printing Need XML output for seeded data definition--urgent

Hi--
I really need to get ahold of the XML output from the checks running off the data definition called "Oracle Payments Funds Disbursement Payment Instruction Extract 1.0" in Oracle R12 quickly--particulary the XML tag that holds the MICR string (should be the concatenation of Check Number, Routing and Acct number).
I found an entry here in the forums about running a query of:
SELECT XMLType.getClobVal(instruction)
FROM IBY_XML_FD_INS_1_0_V
WHERE rownum =1 ;
to get the entire XML output. I have an open SR but haven't really gotten anywhere with it yet.
However, all we get back is an error about datatype. Could someone please help out with this--it is quite urgent as I need to finish this last piece of the checks and work with the bank on formatting this week.
