  • Novice Logic Express user has Midi setup problems

    Hi, folks. I'm a novice Logic Express 7 user (I used a much earlier version as a sequencing package a very long time ago). I've just installed Logic Express 7 on my Mac OS X and connected my Technics PCM Digital Piano PX 107 to the Mac via a MIDIsport UNO midi interface. There's some stuff happening (and not happening) that I don't understand yet.
    Firstly, I can see on the transport window that midi in and out are both registering events, but I am getting a wierd echo of very low notes coming back through the keyboard speakers, making it impossible to make any sense of what I am playing.
    Secondly, if I turn the volume off on the digital piano, I can't hear anything at all, even when midi events are being registered.
    Thirdly, I don't appear to be able to record anything. Once I click record, the midi seems to stop functioning altogether.
    Lastly, my midi metronome click comes back through my keyboard speakers as a very low note.
    Should I have my keyboard volume turned up at all? (My guess is I shouldn't, but I can't hear anything at all at the moment if I turn it down). And can anyone help me with these perplexing problems. All contributions very gratefully received, thanks.

    I think you need to figure out how to turn off local playback on your keyboard. You are probably hearing the sound from your keyboard as you are playing, plus the sound that the keyboard plays when Logic is sending midi notes.
    There appears to be another problem that your midi is being transposed down in Logic. That would explain the low "echo" and low metronome click.
    All the sounds are being made by your keyboard--that's why you can't hear anything when you turn it down. What is it that you are trying to do? Do you want to record midi and have that play back through your keyboard, or do you want to just use your keyboard as a controller for Logic's sounds?

  • How can I reset my defaults in Logic Express 9 on an iMac?

    How do you restore your default settings for Logic Express 9 on iMac?  I had my keyboard working fine through a Fast Track Pro until I tried setting up an aggregated device due to my mic not working. Now I can hear my keyboard again but can't control the volume and its Very low!  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

  • Logic Express Beginner begging for help

    I recently made the step up into the Mac world and love everything about my new mac book pro except I am struggling with Logic Express. I have used Adobe Audition for many years and know it inside and out however...I cant even figure out to record my voice with a microphone.
    I work in radio and only need the program to record my voice and to edit interviews (mp3 or wav files) for use on the radio. I tried hooking up my mobile pre usb pre amp up and downloaded drivers but couldn't get it to record. I can record using the built in my mic but the quality is insufficient for the airwaves.
    I know this must be something very simple but I am struggling , thank you so much in advance for any help you can give.

    Hi,
    I'd start with opening a Finder window, and go to Applications > Utilities > Audio/Midi Configuration. If you open this program, you can set your default audio inputs and outputs, and set the input level, for example. If your interface doesn't show up here, you can be pretty sure that Logic won't see it, either.
    Then go to Logic, and look in Preferences > Audio >Devices. You should choose your USB preamp as your Device. As you can see, you can only choose 1 device here. BUT, in the Audio/Midi Configuration utility, you can "build" a virtual device consisting of more than one device (see the Audio menu of the utility). Just in case you'd like to use more than 1 interface in the future...
    Anyway, check page 99 of Help > Logic Express 8 User Manual.
    Kind regards,
    Jaap

  • Logic Express 6 new user

    Hi Guys
    I had a copy of logic express 6(6.4.0) that i didnt use for ages as i was using protools, after a couple of days working with a friend i realised i should have started using it before....
    So ,anyway, I install the software(i bought it as part of a deal with a PowerMac G4),put the Xkey on the usb port,stared it,.... and it works!!!!
    The xkey shows that i have authorized logic audio 5 and 6 and the ES1,aside from that there is few expired demos on the xkey(ES2,EXS24 MkII,EVP 88.....etc etc)
    Also the copy of logic was not registered so, i have all documentation STILL adressed to emagic,were shoul i send it now?, even the Xkey points at emagic website when i hit the register online or product info online buttons at the Xkey preference pane on my powerbooks System preferences, even after upgrading the xkey firmware still points at emagic......
    So i need ,please, for somebody to point out were i should call/email or contact regarding support,upgrades etc etc, as emagic doesent exists and apples logic pages are all about logic 7 either pro or express, and honestly i find them very hard to understand........
    Also and as a last request i need the "demo or tutorial song" that was supossed to be included on the install,I need it as all the manuals and explanations on the Express 6 manuals are very related to that song, i have looked for it everywere, only thing i found is a bunch of them on a japaneese web page and i dont know what one is it..........
    I hope am not asking for much at one time ,thanks in advance

    Hi Guys
    still here, if anybody could help please regardi9ng this tutorial song.....

  • How to create new user, with same personal files, for troubleshooting?

    I cannot find this answer in "Finder Help", nor in the Community discussions thus far. What I must do to troubleshoot the spinnign beach ball: My next step: I must troubleshoot my friend's iMac running Mac O.S 10.6.8 by setting up a new user, called "Test". This I can do easily. However, what I am unsure of is this: as this "new user", actually just me as a tester, I must be able to access the same email, Word files, Desktop, photos, etc. that I used to access. How, then? Copy all into a shared folder or what? There must be a less cumbersome way. I do NOT wish to delete anything. Of course, I have justmade a perfect backup of everything on my hard drive. Please advise re my next step: sharing the "User" little house files, with myself, as the new, possilbly temporary, user. Thank you so much, anyone and everyone!

    You shouldn't do any of that for troubleshooting. The test user account should be pristine. If you copy stuff from the old account, then you also copy whatever is causing a problem.
    Just use the Accounts/Users & Groups preferences to create a second user called, "test." Make this user an admin user. Then log out of the old account and log into the new one. That's it. You can still access and use applications in the Applications folder if you need to test third-party applications.
    We could be more helpful if you explain just what you need to troubleshoot. If just the spinning beachball is your issue, then visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on resolving the SBOD problem.
    If the computer is simply running slowly then read the following:
    Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
    If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
    Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
    Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
    OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
    OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
    An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
    Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
              Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
              OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
              OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
              About file quarantine in OS X
    If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
    I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
    If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
    For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
        used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
        requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
    Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
    Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
    Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
    Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
    Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
    Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
    Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
    Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
    Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

    Hi Kurt,
    The Mac IIci is not even powering on at all. Tried again with wih a tested power cable and no luck.
    I think it's best that take  this issue to the Older Hardware Community. Not only did I see a fair number of replacement parts for the IIci avaiable online, but there also vintage external floppy drives as well. I'm not giving up.

  • Logic X Additional Content after creating a new User Profile

    Hey guys.  I have a MBRpro and I'm running into problems with a plugin and diskspace.
    I bought East/West Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Plus and Symphonic Choirs and the plugin is killing my CPU on my current User Profile.
    Yesterday, I created a new blank user, and its running fine there.  I'm guessing because all the systems resources are available without running background daemons from other apps.
    After I launched Logic X under the new user, it asked me if I wanted to download additional content.  I had already downloaded all the content under the old user, and so I said "no" as I'm struggling with disk space on my retina (6gig free).  I played a bit - confirmed the plugin was working fine, quit it/logged off and went back to my old profile.
    Today I launched the new user (after logging off from my old profile) and launched logic but now the additional content menu is greyed out.  I'd like to know what is going on.
    1stly, Is it greyed out only on the new user, because old user installed it all already? If so.. why did it ask me the first time to download additional content?
    2ndly, can I verify if the downloadable content library on the older user has carried accross / or is accessable under the new user profile?
    3rdly, If the additional content / Libraries are not automatically shared, can I make them available/shared amongst both users, since I don't have the internal diskspace?  Moving it all onto an external drive is not the best option for me.  I need to keep it all on my laptop if I can.
    Thanks for your help guys.  I couldn't find anything on the forums regarding content shared amongst users on the same machine.  Called Apple Care and they sent me to you guys. :-/
    Cheers,
    Geo

  • Installing Logic Express 9 on a new macbook

    Hello,
    I bought Logic Express 9 pre-installed on my Macbook back in 2010, and would like to install it on my new Macbook Pro retina (it's running the latest version of Mavericks).
    I still have the install DVD and serial number key that originally came with my Macbook, but since my Macbook Pro doesn't read DVDs, I'm a little confused as to how I could install Logic Express there. I looked for it in the App store, but it seems that only Logic Pro is still available there, and since I have never downloaded Logic from the App store before, I can't recover it from there either.
    Is there a way to transfer Logic Express 9 on my Macbook Pro instead of having to purchase Logic Pro?
    Thank you for your help

    If you still have your old Macbook you could use Remote Disc to install Logic to your new MBP. Here's a video to demonstrate.
    If not, you might consider getting an Apple USB Superdrive like I did. It comes in handy and is quite affordable.
    BTW, be sure to run Software Update immediately after installing LE9 on your MBP because it will not work with Mavericks until you update it to 9.1.8.

  • Creating new user having same access as that of SYSTEM user in Express Edit

    Hi, is it possible in oracle to create a new user having same access as that of SYSTEM user?
    If yes what would be syntax?
    If not i would like to create a user having most of admin rights likes exporting and importing schemas and all.
    How it can be done?
    Any help would be appreciated.. :)
    I am using Express Edition 11g.

    same access as that of SYSTEM usergrant dba to <username>;
    Its not exactly system equivalent, sys does grant a few rights directly to system database user but its pretty darn close.
    exporting and importing schemasgrant datapump_exp_full_database to <username>;

  • New user: Logic & surround using existing amp??

    Hi
    Please excuse my ignorance, but I have done some searching and couldn't find an answer.
    I am a new user to Logic, and keen to create surround mixes (5.1). Using a macbook, how can I achieve this in the best and cheapest manner?
    I have a hope Sony 5.1 surround system with USB (+optical etc). Can I use this?
    I can't see the surround windows in Logic. Is this because it hasn't detected a surround output? I was hoping I could mix and play, record as AC3 and play this via DVD on the system?
