Logic Express to Pro Tools for mixdown

Hi!
Really sorry if this topic has been covered before, but all I can find on the various Logic boards I know of are ways of doing this in Logic Pro that aren't available in Express.
My band recorded an EP in Logic Express, which was great, but the engineer we'd like to use to mix it is Pro Tools-only. I know Pro Tools can load up AIF files, but the problem I have is that each track has different start and end points. If I gave him the individual tracks as is, we'd be spending all day synching them up.
I've thought of two ways I can prepare the files for him. Please let me know if they're ********.
1) Setting the fader at unity (0) and bouncing each track individually to a 24 bit WAV or AIF file while the rest are muted.
2) Manually cutting and pasting "fake" beginnings and endings of audio information to each track, then using the Glue tool to create a new, merged track. This way, I figure, each track should be in perfect synch with the rest.
Any help appreciated. Thanks! Rufe.

Hi,
half ok,
bounce one by one to a folder (mute the other tracks) from the start to the finish, PCM 24 bit (44.1 if you going to make cd's), WAV, SDII or AIFF,
that way, all files start and finish in the same spot, Inside Protools you cut the silence parts and don't forget to place a dither plug-in in the master-fader.
Regards,
Jorge

  • Logic Express or Pro Tools

I am currently considering purchasing Pro Tools with and MAudio firewire interface. I am intrigued by the ads for Logic because they promote "edit your music to Quicktime Movies". That appeals to me because I do alot of slideshows. I am mainly just a video hobbyist/ex musician. I would like to get some stuff recorded for fun and maybe get my kids into playing music as well. Can anyone tell me what they really enjoy about Logic that you think I should know. I have a G4 power book that I seems to keep up nicely with everything I run on it.

I use a Presonus Firepod which does me very well. If the Firepod is out of budget, have a look at the Firebox. I have just finished doing a quite high profile job on a MOTU 828mk2, which I would strongly advise, but which is also nealy 600 quid. The great thing about Forepods is that they have 8 XLR/phone inputs on them. Edirol get great reviews. I know that the FA 66 is a great soundcard, and I know many who will swear by it. They are great value for money, and I reckon sound really like they should cost much more.
David's time sig thing is very important and thank you David for adding it, otherwise, although you get good sync with your frames, you have very little idea which second you're in hehe. If you want other things like 29.97 drops and non-drops, well, all I can say is good luck, and I cannot think of a work-around. Good luck! Best, Fred

  • When will OS X Lion be compatible with Avid's Pro Tools 9, or any Pro Tools for that matter?

When will OS X Lion be compatible with Avid's Pro Tools 9, or any Pro Tools for that matter?

There's less money to be made from compatibility than there is from "forced upgrades."  Why would AVID be concerned with their older product working with the new OS when they can release another version for people to pay $250+ for?  Free bug-fix download vs. latest software upgrade?  You've got two companies with virtual monopolies on the pro audio market.  It's a win-win for them.
So what does that say to me about the handful that do not?  The incompatibility is a marketing decision, not a shortcoming.
    Am I close?

  • Logic Studio and Pro Tools 6.9

Anyone knows if there is a know issue about compatibility between Logic Studio and Pro Tools 6.9 software? Whe I launch Logic , it says that it can't find DAE folder and other TDM things...
    any idea?

    Thx Mark,
"probably" would mean that are you sure or just is an ipotetic answer?
Nobody here has Logic 8 and HD2???

  • Logic express and pro 7 to logic studio 9 upgrade question

I have logic express 7, logic studio 7, and just upgraded to logicstudio 9, but my serial number is not recognized. All my copies should be registered with apple already, so how should i best remedy this?

Hi again and thanks for the reply.
I tried to follow your instructions but isn't working still. I think I did something wrong. Here is what I did:
    1. Went to Midi Setup, double clicked on IAC driver and then checked the "device is online" box. It says its on Bus 1.
2a. In pro tools, went to peripherals, at the synchronization tab I left MTC reader port: ANY and put MTC Generator Port: IAC Driver, Bus 1
2b. Then went to the Machine Control tab, enabled MIDI Machine Control and set it to IAC Driver, Bus 1.
3a. In Logic Express I went to preferences>Midi>Sync and selected listen to MMC Input and took Midi Clock off. I see where it says MTC but there isn't a place to make it the slave.
I know I'm not doing this right because I hit play on Pro Tools and Logic Express just laughs at me
Can you help me through this. I'm a novice with Macs and Syncing.
    Thanks again friend.

Like I said in the header,
Every time I start Logic Express 9.1.3 it asks me for my serial number.  What do I do????
    I have a MacBook Pro MacOS 10.6.7.

It looks like I delete the ProAppsSystemID... I'll try it, thanks Erik!
    LOL!
I could use a verification - just in case I forgot something.

  • Integrating my Logic tracks with Pro-Tools

I'm involved in arranging/producing a 12-song cd project...all my arrangements are in Logic 8, and they include several instances of EXS24 soft-synths. My small home-studio is not equipped for recording drums so we're going to track drums (& we'll track bass at same time) at a local pro studio which uses Pro-Tools...
...what is the best way to export my tempo-tracks, vocal-work-demos & soft-synth keybd parts to the studio's pro-tools files?...note that some of my tunes incorporate tempo changes.
And what is the best way to bring those drum & bass trax into my Logic?
    Thanks, Brian

oh yes, on a new Mac Pro...surely, but what are your experiences with these combination?
I´m using 48 Channels I/O with many outboard equipment on a HD 3 Pro Tools DAE ,,, Logic 7 is running and the DAE maschine is working...:))) cool what?
now we must talk about "all native" to use Pro Tools Hardware and Logic 9 because the 2 "Legends" are not able to create a stabile contact since 2004 in DAE mode...
now I`m interested what user, who worked with logic in DAE Mode ....- whats the way?
    regards

  • A dedicated Logic website (ala Pro Tools)...what say you?

If you've read my post regarding Spectrasonic's free RMX quicktime tutorials or Luis G's post offering free tech support to users on this forum, you may now be thinking along the same lines as I am...why isn't there a dedicated website (not just an Apple discussion page) for registered Logic Pro users?!
With enthusiasts like Luis and myself offering our skills for free, how much effort would it really take on Apple's part to get the ball rolling? I am envisioning a site akin to Digidesign's (imagine a monthly Logic E-Zine like Pro Tools has for their users?!) but with a focus on Quicktime tutorials featuring tips and tricks for all registered users.
At the very least, Apple could dedicate some web space to a new user community (ala Spectrasonics or Native Instruments). However, if Apple chose to get more actively involved, it would be to everybody's benefit.
If you'd like to see something like this happen, please speak up by either showing your support in this thread or sending your feedback to Apple.
    Thanks for listening

I find that soooooo amusing and @ our facility we had quite a few laughs about this great word of advice - The greatest thing was that the advice came from the operator of the site - who supposedly a LOGIC CERTIFIED PRO!!!!
    And he was correct, IMO.
I agree with tbird here: unless your hard drives get extremely full, defrag will do almost nothing. Optimization - which is a different issue - might not do much either. If your drives are allowed to become full, that's bad practice anyway, and simply freeing up 30%+ will do some good.
You might want to read this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25668
and a huge amount of bench mark reports, whilte papers and testing resources on line from drive manufacturers, almost all of which will explain why defragging large drives is p*ssing in the wind.

  • Sending Premiere Pro sequence to Pro Tools for automatic audio conforming

I’m looking to implement an online-offline workflow at my production company, and I’m trying to figure out if it’s feasible to send a sequence from Premiere Pro to Pro Tools with enough metadata to take advantage of Pro Tools’ automatic conforming feature.
Premiere Pro or Audition doesn't seem to have any kind of feature like this, so I’m turning to Pro Tools. Here’s a demonstration of the feature from Avid: http://youtu.be/Gz9e9LuIdXU
For color grading, we’re already sending XML from Premiere Pro into DaVinci Resolve, and DaVinci Resolve perfectly automatically conforms the offline proxies to online high-quality clips suitable for grading. I’m trying to accomplish the same thing with the audio clips to prepare a sequence for sound mixing. The offline proxies in a sequence contain only compressed stereo tracks, but online audio clips have all of the separate uncompressed tracks for each microphone.
My initial thought was that, before any offline editing occurs, I might, in the Premiere Pro Metadata panel, add the names of the sound rolls to all the offline proxies in the “Tape Name” field.
I’m wondering if that metadata for those clips in the Premiere Pro Project Panel are included in an EDL that would be exported out of Premiere Pro, so that Pro Tools would know how to correctly choose online audio clips.
I know EDLs contain timecode, and that seems like it would be sufficient for Pro Tools, if production only occurred within one day. However, if there are audio clips recorded on different days, at the same time of day, some audio clips in a sequence would have identical timecode, and Pro Tools wouldn’t know which clip to automatically conform. It seems like Pro Tools would choose which clip to conform by first looking at timecode, and then if there were multiple clips with the same timecode, it would resolve the conflict by identifying the specific sound roll. This is why it seems important to have the sound roll metadata included in the EDL out of Premiere Pro.
EdiLoad looks like software that might be able to batch update sound roll metadata for an EDL already exported out of Premiere, but I’m not sure.
    http://www.soundsinsync.com/products/ediload
Manually going through Pro Tools and assigning correct sound rolls in a picture-locked cut wouldn’t really be an improvement over manually conforming. If I have to go through a cut and locate online audio clips, I might as well just conform manually.
    So my questions are:
When exporting an EDL out of Premiere, does the EDL include “Tape Name” metadata for Pro Tools to read as a sound roll? If not, is there another format I could use that would make this round-trip feasible?
If not, does anyone have experience with EdiLoad? Would EdiLoad work to do what I'm trying to do?
Is there any other way to accomplish automatic conforming, or something else that I'm missing?

    See if this helps.

  • Difference between Logic Express and Pro? ro

Is the actual logic part the exact same? Is it that with the Pro you get all the extras? (soundtrack pro, qmaster, logic node, compressor, main stage, wave burner, jam packs). Is that what makes it the "pro" version? Or does the actual Logic app offer more abilities? If so, I can't seem to see much a difference. thanks

The app itself is indeed the same, but the included content and plug-ins are different.
This Apple support document details all the differences:

I totally agree but for whatever reason they don't at the moment....
I just read that apple is providing updated printer driver packages sometimes (they just released packages for samsung, canon, gestedner etc.) so it seems they do take care about these issues.

  • Logic Express VS Pro

What is the difference between Express & Pro?

Thnak you for $300 it might be worth it.. There are things in PTLE's plug in that I like. So I might do the final editing on PT. I have Audio Technica Condensor that needs Phantom.. I guess the PB's input does not give you that 48V. I still will end up using MBox for Phantom and it may defeat getting Logic and recording.
I am hearing that PT is really not good for Midi stuff. Can you tell me an example where Logic might be better for Midi editing.
I had experience where I had keyboard player record a piano track on MBox via Midi (M-Audio Uno) and she struggled with keeping in time due to latency. The notes didn't react immediatey. I took the track hone and it was lagging. I ended up quantasizing. When she heard that she said it lost all her feel. I was using Sample Tank's Piano Sample.
Will Logic be better in this case.?

  • Is there a way to export my entire Logic project to Pro Tools?

  • Opening Logic Files with Pro Tools/Mbox 2 Micro to Use 'Beat Detective'

    Is this possible?
Just wanna tighten up some acoustic drum tracks
    with Beat Detective.
If so, will I be able to use the new Mbox 2 Micro?
    Thanks a bunch...

this is the correct procedure, as stated make SURE they all start from '0' and that you have the correct tempo entered in protools, and not JUST in the transport bar, but in the main tempo track itself.
also, im assuming you know the limitations of PT LE's beat detective (only one stereo or mono track at a time) unless you have the Music Prod or the Complete Production Toolkit. but there are workarounds to make it work, youll have to check the Digi user confrence boards for that. the to go back to logic you just consolidate the files starting at '0' and export them out.
