Logical host name Question

Hi
Iam in process of creating 2 node cluster on 2 domains.This is for FailOver Clustering
I would appreciate if someone can throw some light and explain if Iam doing right and answer some of the Questions that I had
We have created 2 RG and we are in the process of creating logical host name. Here are the steps that I think Iam going to execute
1> The name of the logicalhost name resources are LH-01 , LH-02
The name of the logical host name are virtualhost-01 , virtualhost-02
The name of the domains are domainapp-01 , domainapp-02
2> Create entry in /etc/hosts for the new logical host name and IP address
Question : Is there any command which can be used to add entries to this files , instead of manually addding them. Iam not a Sys Admin and I do not know how many more places I have to add.
3>Create logicalhostname resources by following commands
a>clreslogicalhostname create -g RG-01 -h virtualhost-01 LH-01
b>clreslogicalhostname create -g RG-02 -h virtualhost-02 LH-02
4>Edit the /etc/nsswitch.conf
Question : I could not understand why we have to do this and what needs to be modified. Do I have to comment out the lines which says
host: cluster files
rpc : files
5>Question : Do I need to also create Shared Address Resource? I really did not understand the concept of Shared Address Resource
I would really appreciate if someone can throw some light on this. I have gone through the documents , but It really did not clear up for me
Thanks
Edited by: Cluster_newbie on Jun 25, 2008 4:06 PM

actually scinstall put this host: cluster files , i dont remember was the the logic
here is some explaination about shared address which used scalable applications like apache
The SUNW.SharedAddress Resource Type
Resources of type SUNW.SharedAddress represent a special type of IP
address that is required by scalable services. This IP address is configured
on the public net of only one node with failover capability, but provides a
load-balanced IP address that supports scalable applications that run on
multiple nodes simultaneously. This subject is described in greater detail
I hope this helps

  • Technical Monitoring for Logical host name

    Dear experts,
    We are in mid of technical monitoring finalisation.
    one of the interesting thing which i found with respect to the logical host name, we installed SMD agent on Virtual host name and our system is not with HA environment and no clustering. It is just a system with single instance.
    During the managed system configuration all the physical and logical host name reported by SMD autodiscovery, all went fine. But in Technical monitoring shows only virtual host name with the updated alerts , and logical host name only shows grey alert.
    virtual host shows alert here
    logical host name shows grey
    how can i get alert displayed for logical host name too? do i need to do some settings at the OS level , could you guide us?
    Thanks
    Jansi

    Hi Giri Raju Ayyagari,
    I am sorry, seems you are still not able to get my issue, moreover you get diverting my issue
    Here the problem is not at all related to agents on fly. thats the separate topic.
    We are having issue on Logical Host names where there is no HA environment, means only One logical host name created.
    I raised to SAP, l will update once the update from SAP given.

  • Logical Host name

    Hi,
    Please tell me about procedure, how to create logical host name in sun cluster.

    Please check other recent posts in this forum or try Google as I'm sure I've posted an answer to this very recently.
    You can also find the procedure if you look on docs.sun.com.
    Thanks,

  • Host name question

    Trying to set up email account using myway.com....it is asking for "host name" then Outgoing mail server information?? where would I find what to enter here?

    woodypita wrote:
    OK, so from what I can tell "myway"...does not use IMAP or POP.
    By which I guess you mean that it's webmail only? If so then of course you're left with browser access.
    So now I am going to Safari, opening up internet, going to email that way...can view my inbox, but won't open messages?
    Make sure that Safari is configured properly, JavaScript on, accepting cookies, etc. You might clear the cache and cookies to see if that helps. You could try powering down, or a hard reset. Or you could try on a different browser.

  • DNS: Zone name vs. Host name question

    My little office OSX Server setup has been working fine, but I realized my DNS setup was a little weird. I think the primary zone and first host machine record were setup during the initial install/setup process, and it doesn't seem to match what Hoffman recommends in his excellent DNS Setup guide.
    My primary zone was named "files.example.com", and my server host record was also named "files.example.com". Everything seemed to work, but I realized when I wanted to add some additional hosts and aliases, I was getting something like "mail.files.example.com", when what I wanted was "www.example.com".
    Hoffman, and others, recommend trashing the default zone and records, and making a new zone named "example.com", then making a machine record for the server, "files.example.com".
    That makes perfect sense, except I don't understand one thing: how, with this setup, can I get the dns to cough up an ip address for hostname "example.com"? Can I make a machine record with a blank hostname, thus yielding a hostname that is the same as the zone name?
    Thanks.

    Thanks.
    Apple setup wizard creates a zonename like files.example.com i.e. the same as the host name. I totally agree with Hoffman this is wrong (and I reported it as a bug to Apple) but that is the way Apple do it until 10.7 at least.
    I therefore do the same as Hoffman and trash Apple's auto-created zone and do it myself.
    Note: The auto-zone format used by Apple will work and might be 'good enough' for a small simple internal only setup, but if your doing a more complex multi-server setup and especially if your going to do split-horizon DNS, it is a terrible setup.

  • Infospoke logical file name question

    Experts,
    We have what seems to be an anomaly that we need to understand.
    On the application server, when we extract our infospokes, two files are generated , a schema and a data file.
    the naming convention is like
    zxxx.infoprovider_date
    eg. zxxx.infoprovider_20080501
    now what happens is,
    sometimes, some data files,
    come out on the application server with the name
    zxxx.infoprovider_1date
    These are the same files that came out fine(without the '1') on a previous date .
    Also there are no duplicate files on the same date .
    Any ideas what could be causing this change in file name?
    Thanks

  • Physical host name getting registered on Application while installing

    Hi
    We have 2 node cluster on a Solaris 10 for which we have defined logicalhost name resources. We are able to failover the logical host name succesfully
    However, when we are trying to install the application on one of the logicalhost , the OS returns the Physical host name during the install and Application is getting registered on Physical host name , and because of that Application install is failing
    Is this something wrong on cluster install Or the application installer is calling wrong function to get the host name. It should call function to get the logicalhost name rather than physical host name
    Please help
    Thanks

    You should not do this in a GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT.
    This imeant to be set in a single shell, or in a per script basis. So in example you can set thi in the start scrip of your application. then the only piece of software affected would be your application.
    for the rest of your system a uname -n will return the physical hostname. Only in your application a uname -n will return the logical hostname.
    If you do it that way or during an installation session of your application as Tim suggested the changes would be restritced to this session or this script.
    The only way to change the behavior for a user is to include it into its profile, but this would trigger only at a login or a shell started with su will get the physical nodename. So my advice would be to set it in the start script of your application. If you need it set during the applications install, set it manually in the session when you install the application.
    Hope that helps

  • Question about Domain and Host name fields.

    Hello! Just a quick question, I currently have the Mail Server up and running although I'm a little unsure about what exactly needs to be entered into the users email application.
    I've tested POP and IMAP using the information that I entered into the "Domain Name" field, and into the "Host name" field, and everything worked great.
    Example:
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.example.com
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.example.com
    Although while setting up another site and including the normal mail setup via DNS I've also noticed that I can send and receive email by using other sites that belong to me, as long as they are pointing towards our server.
    Example:
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.mynewsite.com
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mynewsite.com
    So, I guess my question is whether its bad to use other websites in the incoming and outgoing mail server fields, or should I stick to the incoming and outgoing sites that I have listed in the Mail Server's 'Domain Name' and 'Host Name' fields?
    I hope that made sense, thanks again for your help.
    Paul
    PowerMac G5, Xserve G5, and PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Does it matter if our users type mail.example.com
    into the incoming mail server, or are they allowed to
    use their own domain name "mail.mydomain.com" as long
    as the DNS is setup correctly?
    There is no intrinsic 'meaning' to hostnames entered into the mail client. These are merely converted to IP addresses, using available dns, and then the mail client communicates with the IP address, using whatever port number is applicable for the service required (e.g., port 25 for smtp, port 110 for pop). So you could use the hostname woohooo.mydomain.com for the smtp or pop server, as long as it resolves to the correct IP.
    This enables laptop users to have the one smtp/pop hostname, with lan dns resolving it to the local private IP and ext dns resolving same hostname to wan IP.
    There is also no need to have two separate hostnames for pop and smtp. These are typically used by ISPs because they have separate servers doing each job - one doing pop, one doing smtp. If one server does both (and there is no likelihood of splitting the services later) then just the one hostname for pop and smtp is fine.

    hello colleagues,

    Web service invocation problem on host hostname and port 8000 protocol : http logical port name : LP_WS_SMDAGENT_MONITORING
    Thanks

    OK, then pls follow below steps;
    - Go to step 'Create Users' in solman_setup System Preparation scenario and make sure the user SM_INTERN_WS has a green status. Use the 'Test Login' button to make sure the user is not locked and has correct credentials maintained in solman_setup
    - Immediately after checking the user status, navigate to Configure Connectivity->Enable Web Services and execute again the 'Create Logical Ports' automatic activity, in order to propagate the correct credentials to the Logical Port definitions.
    - If the above operation is not successful, repeat the two steps above, providing a different user Id in 'Create Users' step, eg SM_INTERN_W1. This will prevent situations where the user gets locked by Logical Ports using an obsolete password.
    Let me know the results.

  • Host Name and IP Question

    Sorry about this, I posted this on the Web Services forum, but nobody looks in there :(
    Well, not strictly issues, and also maybe not strictly Java, but it does fall under web services. And the second question might be fixed with Java (probably HTML though!)
    OK, enough dribble here is my question. I have set up my home PC as a web and FTP server running with XP IIS, there isn't much on it at the mo, but what I would like to know if it is at all possible (And I think I know the answer already) to change the host name/ip address.
    By this I mean, I have an IP address which is provided by my broadband provider and although its DHCP, its static (I assume) because it never changes? and at the moment I can go anywhere in the world and type http://???.???.??.?? and I can see my little site working away. But I don't want to do that I want to type http://bestsexywebsiteintheworldever (or something to that affect)
    So is it possible to do that, but without having to use one of these URL Forwarding Services.
    Secondly, on my site I have some links that I am trying to keep a suprise for people when they click them, but the problem is when you hover over it, the address is shown on the bottom of the screen, as I'm sure you are all aware of. Is it possible to remove this so that when you hover no address is shown?
    Thanks, sorry the first one is a bit long winded, I got carried away (very bored at work!)

    One way to do this is to purchase a fully qualified Domain Name, then have your ISP point their DNS server to that. They usually want some $$ for that service.
    I don't know about the second question, sorry.

  • Logical system name for acknowledgement in BPM

    Hi,
    I have a szenario:
    IDOC --> BPM --> MAIL
    Inside BPM I check the message and depending on an xml-element I stop the process or I send the message by mail.
    When I stop the process the BPM sends back an acknowledgement and in SXMB_MONI I can see an error of the acknowledgement:
    "Sender Test_BPM_IDOC_TO_MAIL kann nicht in ein ALE Logisches System umgeschlüsselt werden" (Sender can not convert in a ALE logical system)
    What can I do?
    Possible Solution 1:
    I can define my BPM "Test_BPM_IDOC_TO_MAIL" as a logical system (including WE20 for ALEAUD).
    Possible Solution 2:
    I can enter an existing logical system name in the "adapter specific attributes".
    BUT it is not use the same logical system name twice (BAD ... or is there a workaround?
    Is Solution 1) a common way?
    Thanx

    there are many ways:
    some for aleaud are described in my book:

  • How to resolve a host name from IP using JNDI/DNS service provider

    Hi
    I got two questions on JNDI/DNS service provider:
    1) How to resolve a host name when i got an IP
    I understand How I do it inverse.
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.dns.DnsContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "dns://"+server+"/"+domain);
    DirContext ictx = new InitialDirContext(env);
    Attributes attrs1 = ictx.getAttributes(host, new String[] {"A"});
    2) This example above works when I specify the domain in the provider url.
    If I am not specifing a domain but only the dns server I got an NameNotFoundException.
    What should I do if I don't got the domain?
    get the availible domains and loop on them?

    Hi,
    if your DNS server supports that, you can do a reverse DNS lookup. This works as follows:
    String server = "your.dns.server";
    String domain = "in-addr.arpa";
    String ip = "4.3.2.1";
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.dns.DnsContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "dns://" + server + "/" + domain);
    DirContext ictx = new InitialDirContext(env);
    Attributes attrs1 = ictx.getAttributes(ip, new String[] {"PTR"});1: Use the pseudo-domain in-addr.arpa
    2: Use the reverse IP address for lookup, i.e. if your host has 1.2.3.4, use 4.3.2.1!!
    3: Request the PTR attribute

    According to your log...
    "Unable to create ORB"
    at com.sun.corba.ee.impl.legacy.connection.SocketFactoryAcceptorImpl.initialize
    And related message...
    (INTERNAL) Unable to create listener thread on the specific port"
    Failed to create server socket when calling ORBSocketFactory.createServerSocket(IIOP_CLEAR_TEXT, 18002)
    Address already in use: bind
    Would indicate that the address 18002 is already used by another process.
    So you can do:
    1.restart your machine:
    2. a netstat -an to validate that the port is free
    You may have the localhost already started as a service on your machine...
