Login background picture ?

Is there a way to make the user login background the same as my wall paper picture that I used from iphoto ?
I looked in just about every part of preferences and can't find anything.

The Terminal is an application in your Utilities folder, and allows 'command line' interaction with the Mac OS, using Unix-based commands. Click on the link in my post above, and scroll to the section "Change the Login Screen Wallpaper Image in Leopard 10.5".
EDIT: If you're using Tiger (just noticed your signature says 10.4.11) then follow the instructions for that. If so, you can skip Terminal, and just rename a jpg file and put it in the location that the OS will look for it.

  • Change background picture @ login

    Is there some way I can change that background picture at the Login Screen? ie. i want to change the purplish login picture to some other picture. Does anyone know how to do that?

    I suggest you use this method
    http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/macosxhints/2007/11/loginbkgnd2/index.php
    it does not involve changing any system files.

  • Why does the screen background picture get reset to default when switching user

    iMac with OS X 10.6.8
    I have several user accounts on this iMac, each with a different wallpaper chosen from a common folder (library/desktop/nature) in the top level of the hard drive. (Which exists – can always reset background picture from this folder)
    When I switch from one user account to another, the wallpaper picture, set on the previous login,  appears for a moment and then is  immediately replaced by the default blue.
    This happens when switching from any user to another. I tried restarting the system but the problem is still there.
    This problem just suddenly started and there have been no upgrades or changes to OS X.
    Ideas appreciated!!

    I've found the answer.
    Today, the problem suddenly appeared on my other Mac, which made me look at recent apps..
    I installed Team Viewer a month ago, (which is a great app apart from this) so quit it and removed it from the dock. Problem solved!!
    The odd thing is that the problem appeared only after I had been using Team Viewer for some weeks.

  • How to change OS X Lion (10.7) login background

    I just installed OS X Lion (10.7).  I would like to change the login background on my iMac.  The gray linen is too plain and boring.
    Does anyone know a sure-fire way to change the login background?
    My google search showed how to do this in Snow Leopard, but that process doesn't work with Lion.
    Thx,
    Bickabah

    Thank-you so much, your procedure worked perfectly!  I am now the proud owner of a lovely beach scene, rather than the ugly gray textured screen.
    Some follow-up information for other non-techie users (like me) of this technique.
    1.  I couldn't find the appropriate folder that was mentioned (I believe that it is a hidden folder) until I used the "Go To Folder" option available in the Finder under the "Go" menu.
    Finder/Go/Go to Folder/System/Library/Frameworks/AppKit.framework/Versions/C/Resources.
    2.  I'm not a graphics person so 72 pixels per inch doesn't help me out (I'm just saying, no offense intended in the least).  To resize my image I used the program called RapidoResizer (free) available from:  http://www.adnx.com/software/mac-platform.html.  Once the program was open, I set the "preferences" for my image to match my LCD display ratio (1440X900) in the "Display" settings, located in the "System Preferences" folder.  Of course, I also renamed the picture file to match the name that you gave in your instructions.
    3.  The replacement of the old file with my newly created file was seamless, again owing to your instructions about needing to "Authorize" the replacement.
    P.S.  When I replaced my gray screen, I also made visible (very transparently, in a grayish colour) an Apple logo, and the "sleep", "restart" and "log out" icons at the middle and bottom of my screen respectiviely.
    Thanks again.

  • Gnome 3 - Change login background

    I just installed Gnome 3 and am running in fallback mode.
    In Gnome 2 was able to customize the login window background. Is there a way to change the default background in Gnome 3?
    I'm ok with overwriting the default background picture, as well.
    Thanks!

    The wiki procedure, e.g.
    $ su -
    Password:
    [root@first-desktop ~]# su - gdm -s /bin/bash
    [gdm@first-desktop ~]$ dbus-launch
    No protocol specified
    DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-CIylRIX6Qz,guid=17e852f3d2ebc593113ace52000007d5
    DBUS_SESSION_BUS_PID=12403
    [gdm@first-desktop ~]$ export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-CIylRIX6Qz,guid=17e852f3d2ebc593113ace52000007d5
    [gdm@first-desktop ~]$ export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_PID=12403
    [gdm@first-desktop ~]$ ps aux | grep dconf
    gdm 12518 0.0 0.0 8164 968 pts/0 S+ 21:22 0:00 grep dconf
    [gdm@first-desktop ~]$ /usr/lib/dconf/dconf-service &
    [1] 12540
    [gdm@first-desktop ~]$ GSETTINGS_BACKEND=dconf gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
    'file:///var/lib/gdm/.cache/gnome-control-center/backgrounds/413e48595eeacc43c375b9cb3b501557f13766f0c6b812c1402a1e5c9ff910d1'
    [gdm@first-desktop ~]$ GSETTINGS_BACKEND=dconf gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri "file:///usr/share/archlinux/wallpaper/archlinux-arrival.jpg"
    [gdm@first-desktop ~]$ exit
    logout
    [root@first-desktop ~]# exit
    logout
    $
    really does change the background of the gdm login window, though it's also possible to
    sudo cp -t /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/ /usr/share/applications/gnome-control-center.desktop /usr/share/applications/dconf-editor.desktop
    then logout, make tweaks, log back in and
    sudo rm /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/gnome-control-center.desktop /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/dconf-editor.desktop

  • If autologin is configured desktop background picture is always galaxy picture after restart.

    If auto login is configured,  the desktop background picture is always the standard picture galaxy after restart. If  i do an normal login the background is the right one. The which i have configured.

    I seem to have a slightly different variant of this problem. My desktop picture is supposed to select a random photo from a large folder, and change every hour. When I start up my MacBook Pro by itself, it works fine--I get a random picture. When I connect my external Samsung display and have mirroring turned on, it also works--I get one random picture on both screens.
    The problem shows up only when mirroring is turned off. I should presumably get two different random pictures. But instead I get the same two pictures every time--two different pictures, but always the same ones. After the first hour, I do get two random pictures--but at startup, I always see the same two. Removing the .plist file didn't help. I tried removing the original two recurring photos, and everything seemed fine for a couple of startups, but then it just got stuck on a different pair. A pretty inconsequential problem, all in all, but frustrating.

  • Window background picture & log in picture

    since upgrade installation of snow leopard, a background picture will not load in the finder windows. yes, icon view is being used.
    relatedly, the background picture for the start up window also will not load.
    both of these functions worked while using the older OS.
    what is the solution?

    Ummm... what do you mean by a background picture won't load in the finder window? As in desktop background?
    Also, when you talk about the start up window, I'm assuming you're talking about the login window? That is customization that isn't exactly included in OS X, so... since the installation of a new OS would probably rewrite alot of files, you may have to retrace the customization process you used to change the login window background (e.g. modification of com.apple.loginwindow.plist or whatnot) and make sure the picture you're using and permissions is set to "Everyone: read and write".
    Of course, all this is assuming you are trying to change the background of the login window. If not, then...

  • Login Background Change?

    Does anyone know how to change the background picture on the login screen?

    I downloaded Onyx but can't see any obvious place where I can change the login picture from the purple aurora thing to something else. I can change other things about the login screen, but I don't see anything about the background. Any ideas?

  • System Preference freezes when I want to change desktop background picture

    My system preference freezes when I try to change my desktop background picture, any help, I tried disk utility repair, couldn't find the files to trash.

    Login to the problematic account ensure that System Preferences is closed down.  Move the following file to trash:
    <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    but don't delete it from the trash yet, just in case you need to restore it.  Re-open System Preferences, it will re-create the file.  If all's well then, then you can empty the trash.

  • [SOLVED] GNOME 3.16 + GDM Login & Background Image

    It's being surprisingly difficult to understand what's needed in order to have a login screen that does not contain the default noise PNG as background.
    Apparently now the default theme is a gresource so common css overwrite don't seem to make it.
    How did you folks solved this problem?
    Apologies if already discussed, it's just that the problem is NOT the GNOME Desktop Background, and NOT the lock screen, just ONLY the gdm background screen during login.
    Other tricks seem to not work neither:
    sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver picture-uri '/new/picture.png'
    Thanks for any sort of help with this and Best Regards

    I finally got this to work. The wiki needs updating as of now it only states that gnome shell theme is now in a binary format, but not how to extract and repack it afterwards...
    Anyway this is how i got it to work.
    Use this script to extract gnome-shell-theme inside your choosen working directory
    extractgst.sh
    #! /bin/sh
    #change workdir to suit your system
    workdir=/home/merlin/temp/GS/test
    gst=/usr/share/gnome-shell/gnome-shell-theme.gresource
    mkdir theme
    for r in `gresource list $gst`; do
    gresource extract $gst $r >$workdir${r/#\/org\/gnome\/shell/}
    done
    Once you've run the script you should have the theme extracted to the theme folder which was created inside your workdir.
    Now you can proceed to add a background image to this folder and edit gnome-shell.css by following the wiki page.
    You must now create the file gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml inside the theme directory. Simply copy paste the xml code below into  gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml,  making sure to change the line that refers to your background image. On my system the background image is named login-background.jpg
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <gresources>
    <gresource prefix="/org/gnome/shell/theme">
    <file>calendar-arrow-left.svg</file>
    <file>calendar-arrow-right.svg</file>
    <file>calendar-today.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-focused.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-off-focused.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-off.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox.svg</file>
    <file>close-window.svg</file>
    <file>close.svg</file>
    <file>corner-ripple-ltr.png</file>
    <file>corner-ripple-rtl.png</file>
    <file>dash-placeholder.svg</file>
    <file>filter-selected-ltr.svg</file>
    <file>filter-selected-rtl.svg</file>
    <file>gnome-shell.css</file>
    <file>gnome-shell-high-contrast.css</file>
    <file>logged-in-indicator.svg</file>
    <file>login-background.jpg</file>
    <file>more-results.svg</file>
    <file>no-events.svg</file>
    <file>no-notifications.svg</file>
    <file>noise-texture.png</file>
    <file>page-indicator-active.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-inactive.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-checked.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-hover.svg</file>
    <file>process-working.svg</file>
    <file>running-indicator.svg</file>
    <file>source-button-border.svg</file>
    <file>summary-counter.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-off-us.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-off-intl.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-on-us.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-on-intl.svg</file>
    <file>ws-switch-arrow-up.png</file>
    <file>ws-switch-arrow-down.png</file>
    </gresource>
    </gresources>
    now the only thing left to do is to run
    cd ./theme
    glib-compile-resources gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml
    It will create a gresource file that you can swap in /usr/share/gnome-shell.
    Good luck and hopefully I will save many some headache. Took me quite a while to get the whole thing working

  • I am trying to connect my mac book pro to the tv via a mini display port and a hdmi cable, the only picture that is on the tv screen is the background picture on my computer, any suggestions?

    I am trying to connect my mac book pro to the tv via a mini displayport to a hdmi cable, the only picture on the tv screen is the background picture of my mbp, does anyone know what I need to connect to my samsung tv ?

    Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
    My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire.

  • Changed Lion Login Background Image No Longer Works

    Following instructions posted in various communities, I was able to substitute my own image for the dull gray Lion login background image (replacing the file NSTexturedFullScreenBackgroundColor.png).  But since upgrading to OS X 10.7.4 the other day, the login image has reverted back to the standard Lion image, even though my substituted file is still in the folder /System/Library/Frameworks/AppKit.framework/Versions/C/Resources.
    Anybody figure out a fix?
    Thanks.
