  • Issue in applying SSL selectively to Login JSP Page--Session getting lost.

    Hi,
    I am facing some issues with SSL configuration on my web site running on tomcat 5.5. I am using jdk 1.5 and form based authentication with JAAS framework.
    The SSL configuration is working perfectly when applied to complete web site, but starts giving problem when applied selectively to some JSP pages. At present I am trying to apply SSL just on the login page.
    When the login screen loads up, the URL in the browser has a protocol "*https*", as expected, but it doesn't gets changed to "*http*" once the user has successfully logged in. Why is the automatic change from https to http not ocurring?
    Also I want to know which is the default page, tomcat will direct the logged in user to, once successfully authenticated using form based login; Is there any way to change this default page to some other page. It looks like that tomcat automatically directs to index.html , once the user has been successfully authenticated, but I am not so sure. My index.html page is having 4 frames; the source of these frames are different JSP pages, which are not under SSL.
    My aim is to apply SSL just on login.jsp so that password doesn't travel in clear text. Once the user is authenticated he should see index.html and the address bar's URL should change it's protocol from https to http.

    clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS" />
    I have gone through the http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=197150 and tried implementing it; The filter as explained in the thread does gets called but the session values are still lost.
    Please note I am using javascript to go from secure "https" to "http" once the user has successfully logged in The javascript code is as below:
    top.location.href="http://localhost:8080/qtv/index.html." ;
    If I use response.sendRedirect("http://localhost:8080/qtv/index.html") for going to non-secure mode, the index.html page does not gets loaded properly. (Please note that my index.html is made of *4 frames*, as explained earlier. This is a legacy code and frames can't be removed).
    The reason for index.html not getting loaded properly is that the Address bar URL does NOT change its URL and protocol from https (https://localhost:8443/qtv/index.html ) to "*http*" (http://localhost:8080/qtv/index.html) when esponse.sendRedirect() is used ;this is the default behaviour of response.sendRedirect(). And because the protocol in address bar is https, index.html is not able to load the other JSP's in it's frames because of cross-frame-scripting security issues (The other JSP's to be loaded in frames are are NOT secure as discussed earlier).
    Please let know if any way out.
    Thanks,
    Masaai

  • Login JSP losing Session

    I have a Login JSP which talks to a Servlet which then passes the login request to a Bean. In the Bean I save the login information in the Session, if the login fails I am trying to 'forward' to the Login JSP page again. On the Login JSP there is an 'errorText' field that gets the errorText Property from my Bean. However, when the 'getErrorText' method is called by the JSP I seem to have a new Session and have lost all of my login information.
    What have I done wrong ? I have tried setting the 'scope' of the Login JSP to session and the application but with no result.
    How can I ensure that when I re-display the Login JSP with an error message on it that I am using the Session (and copy of my bean) that I had when I set the properties ?
    Sarah.

    have the code for setting the session values in the servlet that comes after the JSP login page.
    in the jsp login page try to retreive the session values for the user name and the password.
    store these values in the name and password variables.
    for the first time it'll be null and an exception will be thrown. so in the catch block, set the value of the name variable and the password to null string ie "" and set these values as the values of the textfields (for user name and password). also in the catch block, set the error message string also . this one u can use to display when u r redirected to the JSP login page by the servlet. if first time, then set it to null string "".
    but assuming that the JSP page has been called from the servlet when an error occured i.e when the server cannot recognize the user name and password combination, the session variables for the user name and the password won't be null and u can use these values to be displayed in the respective textfields.
    so when the user name and password cannot be recognized by the server, just call the same JSP login page.
    hope that clears a bit of ur doubt!!

  • Adding a custom button to Login.jsp

    In AM 7.1 I have a need to add a "Forgot your password?" button to the AM login page. I would like this button to be located just to the right of the existing 'Log In" button and have the same look and feel as the "Log In" button.
    When a user clicks on the button it is going to take them over to our Identity Manager questionLogin.jsp page. Linking the button to the IdM page is easy. What I don't know how to do is modify the Login.jsp page to add another button that has the same look and feel of and is positioned right next to the current "Log In" button. The AM Developer's Guide was of no help. Can anyone help and/or provide a code example that would do what I am looking for?

    Thanks for the reply, Michael. I understand that the Login.jsp needs to be modified and redeployed, but the question is how to create a new button with the same look and feel as the Login button. Currently we have modified the Login.jsp with a "Forgot Password" html link, but it would be prefered to create a button to match what already exists. I understand that this might be outside the scope of this forum, but I was hoping that someone that has done this (specifically the original poster if he found a solution) could share the relevent code.

  • Extracting a value from the j_security_check servlet into a JSP page

    Hi Folks...
    I have a problem as follows:
    I log in into the web app, via my login.jsp page. Below is the code for the form that accepts the login information
    <form method="POST" action="j_security_check">
    <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
      <tr>
        <td align="right">Username: </td>
        <td><input type="text" name="j_username"></td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
        <td align="right">Password: </td>
        <td><input type="password" name="j_password"></td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
        <td></td>
        <td><input type="submit" value="Login"></td>
      </tr>
    </table>
    </form>Login is sucessful and I am brought to the 'studentstub.jsp' page. I would like the user name to appear on the 'studentstub.jsp' page. I used the following code in the 'studentstub.jsp' page :
    <td><%= request.getParameter("j_username")%></td>  but all I am getting is a null. The 'j_security_check' servlet is not exactly part of my package, but the glassfish app server. Is there anything wrong in the way I am extracting the information from 'j_security_check' ? Hope someone can advise, thanks.

    Hi Folks..
    I managed to get a reply from another forum and the suggested solution works. I am going to share it with everyone here.
    I repalced this line of code:
    <td><%= request.getParameter("j_username")%></td>with this:
    <td><%= request.getRemoteUser()%></td>The 'getRemoteUser' method from HttpServletRequest returns the name of the authenticated user. I hope this information will be helpful to those caught in a simillar problem. Thanks.

    It is a pretty weird problem indeed.
    I know little about Oracle Portal. When I googled, I found the following in http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1014portal/standards_portlets/stdsplts.htm
    "Note: If you receive the following message, then the portlet is in a transient state. Simply refresh the page.
    Error: Could not get markup. The cookie or session is invalid or there is a runtime exception."
    In case you are still searching for an answer, it should be better that you post to one of the portal forums in Fusion Middleware forums

  • JSP pages not working on app server but works locally

    Hello,
    My application uses java, struts and jsps. When I try to access JSP page like http://appServer:7778/app/login.jsp, it says page not found exception. But when I access http://appServer:7778/app/login.do, it displays login.jsp page (success url for login action is login.jsp). How come I am not able to access jsp pages directly? Am I missing any settings?
    And when I run the application using embedded OC4J of Jdeveloper, I could access jsp pages directly.
    Thanks.

    The method getTextContent() is DOM Level 3, and was introduced with Java1.5
    Tomcat 5.5 runs on Java1.5, but by default uses the JDT compiler for JSPs, which is only Java1.4 compliant - might possibly be that.
    See the [url http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/RELEASE-NOTES.txt] release notes and
    [url http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/jasper-howto.html]how to fix (see the section on configuration)
    >
    The Java compiler from Eclipse JDT in included as the default compiler. It is an advanced Java compiler which will load all dependencies from the Tomcat class loader, which will help tremendously when compiling on large installations with tens of JARs. On fast servers, this will allow sub-second recompilation cycles for even large JSP pages. This new compiler will be updated to support the Java 5 syntax as soon as possible.
    Apache Ant, which was used in previous Tomcat releases, can be used instead instead of the new compiler by simply removing the common/lib/jasper-compiler-jdt.jar file, and placing the ant.jar file from the latest Ant distribution in the common/lib folder. If you do this, you also need to use the "javac" argument to catalina.sh.

  • JSP page and the pageContext.forward() method

    I am running JSP pages on a coldfusion site so that a CF page (i.e. login.cfm) hosts my login.jsp page. I want to reload the JSP page without having to reload the cfm page each time. pageContext.forward() does do this, however, it only forwards on to a new page. I want to be able to reload a page with the new URL parameters (e.g. when there is an error, login.jsp will reload and give the user an error). What is a method to reload the page with the proper URL variables?
    The following code does not work:
    pageContext.forward("login.jsp?operation=user_edit&jsessionid=" + f_URLEncode(session.getId()));
    Because it runs from the login.jsp page (the forward command only goes to a new page)

    Just to clarify...
    I log into your site. The first page shown is the CF page. The CF page automatically redirects me to the JSP page. Then what, exactly?
    Does the login page automatically determine my URL, attempt to validate it, and if it doesn't work, it reloads the page?
    The reason I ask is because there is a difference between the resulting HTML page and the JSP class file that generates that HTML page. Generally speaking, most web servers, particularly Tomcat, do not recompile the JSP class file, they just simply pass the parameters to the existing class file, and a new HTML page is generated.
    So technically speaking, every time you visit the login.jsp page, you will get a brand new HTML page. The contents of that page are the same because you presumably pass the same parameters to the class which hasn't changed. But in other words, no, you can't forward to an "old" page that was previously generated by the class - each time the web server calls that class, it creates a "new" page.
    Or are you saying that every time you attempt to forward to the login.jsp page, the system erronously calls the CF page instead?

  • Unable to load the second Jsp Page

    Hi,
    I have three jsp pages. The first is a Login.jsp which takes userid and password and after clicking on submit will take the user to the validate.jsp which validates the userid and password and if userid and password are valid redirects to a third jsp which has contentType="application/x-java-jnlp-file". All that is working fine, what is not working is after clicking on submit button I am not seeing validate.jsp page (i.e title and heading etc.), the browser stays in login.jsp page.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Couple of things :
    1. Make sure that the "ACTION" sttribute in the FORM is pointing to the right URL.
    2. Make sure that the SUBMIT button is inside the FORM tags, then make sure that the SUBMIT button is in the same FORM as the Text Fields .
    If it is still causing you problems , please post your code.
    Good Luck!

  • Custom Help Message Text on user/login.jsp

    Hello,
    I am trying to get some custom text to appear in the help box associated with the user/login.jsp page. I did some digging around in the docs and looked at the includes/helpServer.jsp file. I found the <$WSHOME>/help/html/help/en_US/com/waveset/msgcat/help/user/login-help.html file.
    I replaced this file with our own custom version. I can not get our custom version to load. The old version still continues to load. I cleared out all the cache options I could find in the debug pages, then rebooted the server. Still no luck. Does anyone know how I can change the contents of this help message?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Here's a solution that works too. Application server is: Tomcat 5.0.28. Identity Manger 7.0 Running on a Windows 2003 server and a SQL Server dbms.
    This is not the ideal solution because upgrades (i.e. new releases from Sun) will over write the changes.
    This example over writes the HELP button content on the End User Menu.
    This approach should work for all App servers however the folder structure will vary.
    1. Stop Tomcat
    2. Clear cache. (i.e. delete the localhost folder and its contents found in C:\tomcat\work\Catalina\localhost).
    3. Create the following folder structure C:\com\waveset\msgcat\help\user
    4. Copy the original html file from: C:\tomcat\webapps\wavex\help\html\help\en_US\com\waveset\msgcat\help\user to C:\com\waveset\msgcat\help\user. In this example main-help.html is the file being copied.
    5. Make your changes to C:\com\waveset\msgcat\help\user\main-help.html
    6. Open C:\tomcat\webapps\wavex\WEB-INF\lib\idm.jar with WinZip and add file C:\com\waveset\msgcat\help\user\main-help.html.
    7. Close WinZip
    7b. If you want you can check your results.
    7c. Open C:\tomcat\webapps\wavex\WEB-INF\lib\idm.jar using WinZip.
    7d. Find main-help.html and open it using your favorite web browser to see if your changes have been included.
    7e. Hope it worked for you.
    8. Start Tomcat
    9. Test Change
    9a. Log into Identity Manger's end user interface.
    9b. Click the HELP button to see your changes.
    Good Luck.
