LoginHook Shell Script not running?

I have a very simple login shell script (open http://pathtowebsite.local) that I have set as a LoginHook. When running the script from the Terminal, it opens the website, as expected. However, on login it appears that something happens, the menu bar flashes and disappears until you click on something, but the website doesn't open. The permissions are set properly, and it is executable. The script is located in the global /Library folder in a folder I created called Management, though I also tried putting it in the /Users/Shared directory in case it was an access issue.
Any ideas on what I might do to resolve this issue? I can't seem to get it to actually kick off at user login like it should.

The LoginHook environment is minimum. There is NO PATH
pwd: /
id -a: uid=0(root)
gid=0(wheel)
egid=80(admin)
groups=0(wheel),
1(daemon),
2(kmem),
8(procview),
29(certusers),
3(sys),
9(procmod),
4(tty),
5(operator),
80(admin),
20(staff)
$1: thelogin_person'susername
printenv:
PWD=/
SHLVL=1
SECURITYSESSIONID=449a3aa0
_=/usr/bin/printenv
Notice, no PATH, no USER environment variables, just about nothing as an environment.
So there is no way for the LoginHook to find the 'open' command.
Try changing your script to /usr/bin/open

    Hi Donekes,
    First off I need a little more information to help with troubleshooting.  You say that an error occurs when you "try to re-open the same problem app before the old session completely exits".  Does the error have an error code or dialog display?  It may also be possible to receive an error log.  Here is a knowledge base that explains how to retrieve error logs.

    Hi,

    Hi,
    I have an application (very small) that connects to
    our database. It needs to run in our UNIX environment
    so I've been working on a shell script to set the
    class path and call the JAR file.
    #!/bin/sh
    exec /your/path/to/java -cp your:class:paths:here -MoreJvmOptionsHere your.package.and.YourClass "$@"Store this is a file of any name, e.g. yuckiduck, and then change the persmissions to executechmod a+x yuckiduckThe exec makes sure the shell used to run the script does not hang around until that java program finishes. While this is only a minor thing, it is nevertheless infinite waste, because it does use some resources but the return on that investment is 0.
    CFG_DIR="`dirname $0`"You would like to fetch the directory of the installation out of $0. This breaks as soon as someone makes a (soft) link in some other directory to this script and calls it by its soft linked name. Your best bet if you don't know a lot of script programming is to hardcode CFG_DIR.
    OLDDIR="`pwd`"
    cd $PLCS_ROOT_DIRVery bad technique in UNIX. UNIX supports the notion of a "current directory". If your user calls this program in a certain directory, you should assume that (s)he does this on purpose. Making your application dependent on a start in a certain directory ignores the very helpful concept of 'current directory' and is therefore a bug.
    cd $OLDDIRThis has no effect at all because it only affects the next two lines of code and nothing else. These two lines, however, don't depend on the current directory. In particular this (as the cd above) does not change the current directory for the interactive shell your user is working in.
    echo $EXIT_STATUS
    exit $EXIT_STATUSEchoing the exit status is an interesting idea, but if you don't do this for a very specific purpose, I recommend not to do this for the simple reason that no other UNIX program does it.

  • Shell Script not getting invoked in File adapter

    Hi all,
    Requirement:
    PI need to pick the file from source directory and send it to target directory using SFTP.
    I'm using SCP command for this purpose.
    When I run the shell script (with simple SCP command) from command prompt, script is working fine.
    Same script is called from PI File adapter but script is not getting invoked.
    In the communication channel logs, "Executed OS command" is available. There are no Error/Warning messages in the log.
    NFS transport protocol is used in the File communication channel.
    Complete directory path of the shell script is mentioned in File channel -> Run Operating System command after message processing.
    Even the following simple command is not working from PI receiver file channel:
    echo "Test file" >> /data/test.txt
    Please let me know if I'm missing out something.
    Thanks,
    Geetha

    Hi Geetha,
    I think the syntax u are using is not correct. Please follow the below syntax:
    /path/<script_name> %F
    for ex: /staging/Interface/XI/Script/FTPData %F
    use the above in the communication channel.
    %F should be after a space.
    FTPData is the script name
    /staging/Interface/XI/Script/ is the location where the script is present

  • Automator workflow "run shell script" keeps running. How to stop?

    Because i want two instances of dropbox running simultaneously on my Mac, I set up a small automator workflow application. The workflow consist of a simple shell script:
    Or in text:
    bash
    HOME=$HOME/Dropbox-quivertree /Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/MacOS/Dropbox &
    The problem is that once the application runs, or i execute the script from within automator, it just keeps running (i get the little cog in my menubar). Anybody have an idea how to automatically stop after it has launched dropbox?
    Thanks!
    Kim

    I do not have dropbox on my computer, so I tested using the Calculator application. The solution proposed by Mattis S.F. does work, but his explanation does not hold true in my case. Initially, I successfully tried
    HOME=$HOME/Dropbox-quivertree nohup /Applications/Calculator.app/Contents/MacOS/Calculator >/dev/null 2>&1 &
    If I remove the “nohup”, the result does not change. Removal of the “/dev/null 2>&1”, however, results in the same problem originally described by Kim van der Leeuw. My guess is the background process has stdout and stderr redirected by default back to the automator. When redirected to /dev/null, the automator no longer waits for the background process to complete. To summarize, change
    HOME=$HOME/Dropbox-quivertree /Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/MacOS/Dropbox &
    to
    HOME=$HOME/Dropbox-quivertree /Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/MacOS/Dropbox >/dev/null 2>&1 &

  • Power shell script to run a Resuable workflow.

    Hi,
    We came across a scenario where we want to run a resuable workflow on all List items in a list. I am not sure if this can be acheived through power shell. Can any one please help me to run reusable workflows through power shell script on list items.
    Thanks,
    Sandy

    Hello,
    Recently i executed below script for my VS workflow on list items, you can also try same on reusable WF.
    Basically you need to use "WorkFlowManager" and "WorkFlowAssociations " to find WF on list and then execute it.

  • Process Flow - User Defined object calling Unix Shell script not working

    Hi, I have a User Defined Object in a Process Flow with the following parameters :-

    The shell script is executed by the oracle user in the unix environment so make sure that the directorie where you can find the unix commands exists in the path for the oracle user in .profile as you can se in my example below.

  • Unix master shell script to run jobs in parallel with dependency

    I need a master shell script which would call the following shell scripts as per below order. Kindly note that if any shell script fails then the master shell script should abort.
    Level 1     PRODUCTS
         SP_ROST_DLY_STG_lD
         SP_ROST_DLY_ITG_lD
    After Level 1 completes run below two shell scripts in parallel:
    Level 2     SP_IDL_EDGE_CON_POSTN_STG_Ld ,     SP_IDL_EDGE_ACCT_POSTN_STG_LD
    After Level 2 completes run below shell scripts as per the seqeunce and in parallel:
    Level 3     SP_IDL_EDGE_ACCT_STG_LD ,     SP_IDL_EDGE_CONT_STG_LD
         SP_IDL_EDGE_ACCT_STG_VAL ,     SP_IDL_EDGE_CONT_STG_VAL
         SP_IDL_EDGE_ACCT_ITG_Ld ,     SP_IDL_EDGE_CON_ITG_Ld
    After Level 3 completes run below shell scripts as per the seqeunce and in parallel:
    Level 4     SP_IDL_EDGE_CONT_POSTN_ITG_LD ,     SP_IDL_EDGE_VISITS_LD
         SP_IDL_EDGE_ACCT_POSTN_ITG_LD ,     SP_IDL_EDGE_VISITS_DTL_LD

    can i avoid using set -e and use some other method so that if there is an error in previous job then the next job is not triggered.Sure, but it is ugly.
    The below is not the only way to do this...
    Wrap every place you start another script with:
    $ if ! MYSCRIPT; then
        echo Script MYSCRIPT failed. >&2
        exit 1
    fibut the wrapper for parallel scripts is even worse:
    $ MYSCRIPT &
    $ MYSCRIPT_JOBNO=$!
    $ MYSCRIPT2 &
    $ MYSCRIPT2_JOBNO=$!
    $ MYSCRIPT_STATUS=`wait ${MYSCRIPT_JOBNO}`
    $ if [ ${MYSCRIPT_STATUS} -ne 0 ]; then
        echo Script MYSCRIPT failed. >&2
        exit 1
    fi
    $ MYSCRIPT2_STATUS=`wait ${MYSCRIPT2_JOBNO}`
    $ if [ ${MYSCRIPT2_STATUS} -ne 0 ]; then
        echo Script MYSCRIPT2 failed. >&2
        exit 1
    fi
    ...Now, doesn't a simple 'set -e' look much better?

  • Hardcode password in a do shell script not working

    I have been trying to solve something i have wanted to do for a long time, that is get a script that changes the ammount of time before the display goes to sleep. I tried GUi scripting but in system preferences the changes made to the slider did not stay. So i have now come onto a do shell script. Found below. I would prefer to just hardcode my password into it however this does not seem to work. Any ideas ?
    set exitflag to false
    try
    repeat until exitflag is true
    set {text returned:Sleeptime, button returned:sleepstate} to (display dialog "Minutes before display sleep" & return & "Between 1 and 180 mintues" & return & "Greater than 180 means never sleep" default answer "1" buttons {"Cancel", "OK"} default button 2)
    set Sleeptime to Sleeptime as number
    if Sleeptime is less than 1 then
    set exitflag to false
    else if Sleeptime is greater than 180 then
    set Sleeptime to 0
    set exitflag to true
    else
    set exitflag to true
    end if
    end repeat
    end try
    set Sleeptime1 to Sleeptime as string
    set Sleeptime1 to quoted form of Sleeptime1
    set psswd to quoted form of "XXXXX"
    do shell script "sudo pmset -a displaysleep " & Sleeptime1 password psswd
    set pete to do shell script "sudo pmset -g"
    set xx to text -2 thru -1 of pete
    if xx - Sleeptime = 0 then
    tell application "SEC Helper"
    show screen message "Worked:" & return & xx & " mintues"
    end tell
    else
    tell application "SEC Helper"
    show screen message "Failed!"
    end tell
    end if

    1) don't use 'sudo' in a 'do shell script'. It isn't necessary and will sometimes break.
    2) do not use 'sudo' in a 'do shell script'
    3) do not use... I'm sure you get the idea.
    It is not necessary to use 'sudo' in a 'do shell script' command. 'do shell script' itself takes care of the authentication element when you use 'with administrator privileges'. Therefore the appropriate way of doing this is:
    <pre class=command>do shell script "pmset -g displaysleep " & sleeptime1 with administrator privileges password psswd</pre>
    If you omit the 'password psswd' element the user will be prompted to authenticate using the standard system authentication dialog.
    The problem you're running into is that the 'password' parameter is only valid when you use 'with adminitrator privileges', and is therefore getting ignored in your current script.

  • VB startup script not running on Win7

    Hi,
    my startup VB script not working on Windows 7. The script should install or uninstall office 2010 based on group membership.
    I tested scipt on Windows XP and everything works. When I run script manually, it works.
    Quite similiar batch file works, office are installed but not same functionality for me.
    I turn UAC off, bot not working.. Also add dword EnableLinkedConnections  but nothing change.
    Batch file works but VBScript not!
    Any advice? Thx

    Hi Tomas Cink,
    Based on my understanding, the start VB script which is deployed via GPO could not works fine on Windows 7 clients, although it can works fine on Windows XP clients and it can
    run sucessfully if manually. Right?
    Firstly, please run the following command on the problematic workstation.
          Gpresult /h > C:\temp\gpresult.html  (“C:\temp\” is the path of the gpresult.html, you can set it by yourself)
    This file is used for checking the result of Group Policy information. Open the file to check if the GPO has applied.
    If the GPO has applied, please follow the following step to narrow down the issue:
    Change the script to the following command: add  > %SystemDrive%\Users\test.txt
    to the script.
    Log on to a client with a regular user account, run
    gpupdate/force, and then re-log on to this client.
    Check if the test.txt file exists in this location
    %SystemDrive%\Users.
    If the
    test.txt file exists, the GPO with startup script is applied successfully. But the result of running logon script achieves the goal we excepted or not which is still not sure.

  • Server side script not running on stand-alone XE

    Hello,
    In my application I created a Server side script (AJAX) which presents a select-list based on other fields on the page. The very same application runs on a 10g+APEX3.0.1 database AND on a standard XE+APEX2.1 database, which are both accessed via a HTTP-server. The application with the script runs fine on this platform (XP).
    I have two other XP-machines on which I also installed XE+APEX2.1. Both are stand-alone versions NOT accessed via a HTTP-server. I installed exactly the same application which runs on the platform with HTTP server on both of the machines. While testing the correct functioning, I noticed that everything works ok, EXCEPT the server side script which gives me a better select list. Instead of this I get the old-fashioned version of the select-list which is not able to use the value elsewhere on the page.
    I found a similar problem on the XE forum (Re: Server side scripts features ) but it doesn't answer my question how to get the script working on a standalone version of XE (= without access via a HTTP-server).
    Can anybody please help me?
    Thanks & regards,
    Jan.

    Carl,
    Thanks for your suggestion to install FireFox and the Firebug tool (which I wasn't aware of).
    After having looked at the problem for hours, I found what I think is the problem: the htmldb_html_elements.js script.
    As already mentioned, the properly functioning XE on my local PC is accessed via a HTTP-server, as well as the 10gR2+APEX3.0.1 version also running on that PC.
    On the laptop, not running HTTP-server, I get the message: <br>
    <FONT COLOR="RED">$x is not defined <BR>
    <FONT COLOR="BLUE"> f_21_select_kpn<FONT COLOR="RED">(<FONT COLOR="BLUE">input<FONT COLOR="BLACK">#P21_GBREKNR 405<FONT COLOR="RED">, "P21_KOSTENPOST") <BR>
    <FONT COLOR="BLUE">onblur<FONT COLOR="RED">(<FONT COLOR="BLACK">blur <FONT COLOR="RED">)
    </FONT><BR>
    That is in the 'Console' of Firebug.
    When changing to Script I do see a remarkable difference.
    On the PC there the following text is found in the first lines of htmldb_html_elements.js:
    /*htmld_elements will contain the lower level html access js*/<br>
    var gDebug = true;<br>
    var gkeyPressTime;<br>
    var gLastTab=false;<br>
    var gRegex=false;<br>
    var ie=(document.all)?true:false;<br>
    if(ie){document.expando=true;}<br>
    var gDebugWindow = false;<br>
    /*<br>
    $x functions have to do with either single elements or array of elements<br>
    $v functions have to have to do with manipulating values or interaction based off a value<br>
    $xml function have to do with manipulating xml values<br>
    $a functions are based on ajax<br>
    $d functions are specific dhtml constructs<br>
    */<br>
    /* begin $x functions */<br>
    function $x(pNd){<br>
    try{<br>
    var node;<br>
    ...<br><br>
    On the laptop however the first few lines are:<br><br>
    /*htmld_elements will contain the lower level html access js*/<br>
    <br>
    var gDebug = true;<br>
    var gkeyPressTime;<br>
    var gLastTab=false;<br>
    var gRegex=false;<br>
    if(document.all){document.expando = true;}<br>
    // Elements //<br>
    <br>
    function html_GetElement(pNd){<br>
    try{<br>
    var node;<br>
    switch(typeof (pNd)){<br>
    ...<br><br>
    I think that the difference is in these two scripts.
    But why are the scripts different: it is the same XE that is installed on the laptop and the PC.<br>The answer I found in the images/javascript directory of APEX3.0.1 which is located in the APACHE directory-tree (you have to copy the images to APACHE when you use the HTTP-server). And indeed: the htmldb_html_elements.js has exactly the same text as what I see in Firebug on the PC. So XE on the PC is using the javascripts in the image-directory of APACHE on the PC and not the XE-version of the scripts, embedded in XE.
    <br><br>
    So the answer seems to be: copy the APEX3.0.1 versions of the script over to the PC and try to get them into the database. Or...???
    <br>
    Can it be loaded into the database? Will XE accept it?
    <BR><br>
    Would be nice to have answers if the conclusion I found is the right one and if it can be fixed by loading the js into XE.
    <br>
    Best regards and thanks for your help so far.

  • GPO Startup/Shutdown scripts not running

    I am running server 2003 SBS with windows 8.1 Pro workstations.
    My workstations run 1 start-up script and 2 shutdown scripts. All are BAT files.
    They were all working fine last week before I ran the update for 8.1.1, now they do not run at the appropriate time on any of those systems. However, if I execute them manually they work as expected.
    I have checked to see if the BAT files are still located in the GPO and they are there. They are stored locally on each machine, I have even tried to delete and re-add them and then run GPUPDATE to no avail.
    Any help here would be great, as they deal with local encrypted containers and are specific to each workstation.

    Hi Sebastian,
    Thanks for posting.
    Whether the GPO with start-up/shutdown scripts are linked to the OU containing computers?
    FYI -  Logon/Logoff scripts could only be applied to users, whereas Start-up/Shutdown scripts applies to computers.
