Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 Won't Work Under One User Account in Windows Vista 32-bit

My Logitech HD Webcam C920 seems to work fine online on Flash Player under all user accounts except one.  How do I fix this without having to delete that user account?

Thing is (and this is just basic troubleshooting principles):
If it works (under any account at all), - it ISN'T the camera, or it wouldn't work at all. Likewise, if it DIDN'T work under any account, it COULD be the camera.
If it works (under any account at all), - it ISN'T flash player, or it wouldn't work at all. Likewise, if it DIDN'T work under any account, it COULD be Flash Player.
So the problem HAS to be specific to this one account, and some setting(s) for the account, since the plug-in and hardware have already been proven to be working.
Unless you can pinpoint what setting for this one accoiunt is preventing it from working, you'll most likely have to create a new account to use it.

  • PowerPoint file won't open under one user account, but does under another account

    Hello,
I have a 10.9.5 macbook pro here that will not open a Powerpoint file under one user account. It is up-to-date with Software updates and Office 2008 is up-to-date as well. When I try to open the PowerPoint file, I get the message, "PowerPoint closed unexpectedly" and I can choose to Reopen (which opens a blank presentation) or OK (which closes PowrPoint). I have tried double-clicking the file from the Desktop where is resides, File --> Open from within PowerPoint and also saved it to a flash drive and tried opening from there. It does open under the admin account on the same machine and it will also open on other machines. Other PowerPoint files are opening fine...it's just a problem with the one file. The user has Read & Write privilege to the file. I tried Repairing Disk Permissions, I have tried deleting microsoft plist files, and lastly, have re-installed Office 2008. At this point, I can only think to try deleting the user account and re-adding it, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before I go that route.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Flash player does not work under one user account.

Flash player does not work under one of my user accounts.
My system: I work with a mac mini with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    What I have done:
I installed the flash player maybe one year ago under my "first" user account. At that time this user account had had administrator authorization. In the meantime I had to change this "first" user account in an account without administrator authorization and created an administrator user with which I installed different programms. Lately, the message came up that it would be necessary to update the flash player. I did it; under the "first" user account, but of course with the administrator's password for installing. The installation had been "successful" - so I was told. But it did not run. I tried it again and again. Each time with "deinstallation" first. No way; it did not work.
After asking Adobe for the reason of the problem, they suggested to install the programm directly under the administrator user. I did that (of course after deinstalling under the "first" user account) with the result, that flash player runs under my administrator and my "second" user account, but not under the first user account. There I am always told to update my flash player.
With this result, I talked to Adobe. So they told me to contact the producer of the operating software, since this would be a mistake of the operating software.
And here I am - full of hope to get help from you.
Thanks for reading. And thanks in advance for helping me.
    Nanny FS

Any update to provide at all here guys?  Again, in my situation, it's very much rights-related as a standard user doesn't even report that the flash player exists when testing it on the Adobe Flash Version Detection website (despite it showing up in Control Panel and under Add/Remove Programs).  I've already tried giving the C:\Windows\System32\Macromed and files/subfolders appropriate permissions for the standard user and still nothing.  If I either give the user in question full local admin rights or logon as the domain admin, then the Adobe Flash Version Detection website says Flash is installed and Flash works fine.

  • Itunes not working in one user account

I'm running OSX 10.6.8 and the latest iTunes software. My iTunes has stopped working on one user account only, the menu is completely greyed out and will not function when launched. To quit iTunes I have to use force quit. I've tried deleting the plist preferences, re-installing iTunes from a back up and also re-installing from new, but the same fault persists. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Delete all gnome config files before (the .gnome* directories) and also caches and session config (somewhere in .config directory). You will lost all application config, but I do it from time to time and it solves even some application bugs.

  • IChat works in one user account but not in another

my computer phobic parents just bought a new 27" iMac and I've been using iChat's screen sharing with him to help my dad with the computer, we've already set up a separate user account on the machine for my mom we can't get iChat to work under her user account.
The apple rep had trouble using her Gmail account so he set up an AIM account but still no luck
I have her in iChat under my dad's user account and can do video chats and screen sharing with her, no problem.
But regardless of whether or not we leave her jabber account logged in under my dad's user account, we can't get iChat to accept her account info when she is loged into her own user account.
(P.S. parental controls for her account aren't activated neither is admin privileges)

    Hi,
Make her account an Admin Account.
A Managed Account and Parental Controls tend to be somewhat linked and a sliding scale of things.
If there is no reason to Manage her account there is no reason why she cannot also be an Admin account.
She should also Check iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security and see who is in the Blocked or Allowed Lists and see if you are in the wrong one.

  • HP FQ834UT USB Universal Docking Station software won't work on my HP laptop with Windows 7 64 bit

I am using Windows 7 and when i went to load software for my docking station, HP FQ834UT USB Universal Docking Station, it said it couldn't use the driver.   Is there a software upgrade to allow this driver to work on a HP laptop with Windows 7 64 bit operating system?

I have the same issue - I have it installed on my Windows 7 64-bit machine and although it is running, it doesn't work.  I am sitting here in Starbucks, which has a Verizon Wifi hotspot (actually Boingo - which is what Verizon Wi-Fi uses) and the "Connect" box does not appear.  I had the same issue at an airport recently.  It's one of the worse pieces of software I have had the misfortune to use.  When it fails to connect, it causes the Wifi connection to drop (incompatibility with Lenovo Access Connections, maybe).  I don't think that Verizon understands the meaning of "QA" and "Software Testing".

  • Scanner won't work with one user but will work with another

Tonight I used my scanner and it worked fine.  Then a few minutes later I tried to scan another documentand it wouldn't work.  I finally logged off, and switched users (to Administrator) and I was able to use thescanner.   I don't know why it works for one user but not the other.  (This is very inconvenient.) What do I need to do to fix it?

    Hi Rustyintegrale,
    A couple of questions...
    1. Does the unit immediately kernel panic when power from the bus hits the drive?
    2. Does it happen in multiple users?
    3. If you startup, interrupt the boot process and boot to the startup manager (by holding option on startup) and then plugin the SuperDrive does it kernel panic there as well?
When a peripheral causes a unit to go into this state, there's little that can be done to troubleshoot from a software perspective. Especially if your answer to all three questions above was "yes." You can certainly try resetting the PRAM & SMC, to see if there is any change. But, I think the next best step might be to bring the machine and this optical drive to see a qualified technician.

  • ISight not working from one user account on MacBook

    Hi everyone,
It'd be great to get some help with fixing an iSight camera. I've followed the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
and have narrowed it down to a particular user account (it has admin permissions). Other user accounts can access the iSight fine. However, every application I try under that one user account can't access the iSight.
Unfortunatly it's my wife's account. She quite likes to skype her family in the earthquake prone area of New Zealand called Christchurch.
Any ideas of things I could try, permissions I could reset, etc would be great.
    I've tried:
    * resetting the PRAM
    * resetting the SMC
    * rebooting
    * fixing disk permissions (from multiple accounts)
I've got a reasonably techy background, so even telling me the device node that the iSight is accessable on would be useful - that way I can manually check the permissions on that.
    Thanks!
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
That was partly my fault  (well actually it was entirely my fault)
    I missed this bit:-
However, every application I try under that one user account can't access the iSight.
Now it is really Odd that this one user cannot access the camera at all in any App where as other users on the Mac can.
I would start with the FONT BOOK.
Check that all Fonts are active, particularly the System Fonts.
Certain Apple Apps will not work properly if Helvetica or Lucida Grande are turned Off or Missing.
Basically we are looking for something that she has changed (or has become corrupt) that is not directly linked to the camera but is needed (there is no direct way to turn On or Off the camera access).  (Fonts are first choice)
    Next check the Address Book.
Is the My Card (Head and Shoulders icon) actually listing her details.
    Have a look at this
This Apple Article refers to a .plist that is a System wide one.
However as a .plist it may be the thing that is blocking access to one user.
I don't have it on my G4/1GHz Dual processor running 10.5.8 but neither do I have iMovie 7 (from iLife '08)
Some people have reported that removing this gets the camera back for iChat.
Make the Address Book Export of copy of itself  (File Menu > Export > Archive)
After that I would try moving (NOT Deleting) the whole contents of her Home Folder/Library/Preferences.
Then Restart the computer then try specific apps.
If Skype then works you will know it is one of the .plists that you moved.
Then comes the monotonous bit of moving back some .plists at a time until you can narrow down the one that is at fault.
Have you tried a Safe Boot ?  (it will need another restart after it has done that)

  • Keyboard is not working on one user account

Only one user account on my iMac cannot use the keyboard. All other accounts including the admin works fine. But after my daughter signs in to her account (using the keyboard to type her password) the keyboard is no longer detected by bluetooth. The mouse works fine and it seems as though the keyboard actually loses power too because the caps lock button does not even light up anymore. Please help!

  • Word, pdf, iPhoto email, don't work on one user account but work on second user account

I have MacBook Pro running 10.7.  In my main user account I've recently had major issues with several applications.  Word quits on startup, pdf files quit on startup, the latest iPhoto application quits when attemping to send email with photos from iPhoto.
I set up a second user account and all the issues went away.  Can anyone explain why such bugs are present in one user account by not the more recent one?
    Thanks

    In your wife's account:
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Front Row won't work in my user account

So I have followed the threads about non-working Front Row. Mine worked at 1st instal, but when I loaded a a bunch of MP3s into iTunes and then went to Front Row it spat the dummy.
I did as one poster suggested, made another user account; logged in, and Front Row worked immediately. Going back to me as the user, it wouldn't work.
As I understand it, this behaviour points to a preference file problem (?). If so, how does one correct the file problems (editing, delete etc).
I did an archive and instal - same problem
I did an erase and instal - same problem
I trashed the 1.3 update and attempted to re-instal it thru Software Update - but it didn't show as available, altho other software appeared.
From all this, can anyone give me some advice on what I do now? Many thanks for an information.

    An update for anyone viewing.
I used the Apple-Esc combination from the keyboard and Front Row worked! But only once.
I came across a topic that suggested "pairing" the remote to my computer by aiming the remote at the Apple logo on my machine, 3-4" away, and pressing the Menu and Fast Forward buttons simultaneously. And that worked! And its continuing to work!
Now, after I'm finished my session and I get back on my machine again - the trick is for Front Row to continue working.
Hope these hints help anyone who might have my problem.

  • Garageband '08 stopped working for one user account

I'm running Garageband '08 (4.1.1) on an early 2008 iMac (8,1) running Snow Leopard (10.6.8)
I recently tried to open a project I started a couple of months ago and Garageband has become unusable.  It will open the project and all of the tracks are visible, however, the entire program is super sluggish and the project will not actually play.  You can press "Play" but it will play about 1 beat before it freezes again.
So here's the list of things I've tried..........
Tested the same project(s) using another user account.  Garageband behaves normally and the projects all play nicely.   "So I've got that goin' for me"
I've also tested other programs that use a lot of system resources like iMovie, Final Cut Express, and some 3D modeling/home design software (Sketchup and Sweet Home 3D).  These all work fine.  While running Garageband the Activity Monitor shows no major system use (CPU I thinks was less than 20%).
I've tried using Disk Utility to verify and repair Permissions and verify and repair the disk.  While doing the disk repair I did get a message stating that there were errors that required the original install disk to repair.  I did use the install disk and it did successfully repair the errors.
I've also tried deleting all of the preference files for Garageband.  I've actually done this multiple times after trying some of the other fixes above (figured give it a clean start).
I've uninstalled Garageband and re-installed it from the original system discs.
Since I'm posting here now you can assume that all of the above attempts have been unsuccessful.
    Any thoughts?
Bonus Question:  I also have Garageband running on my iPad but Garageband '08 on my Mac doesn't let you exchange files back and forth.  I planned to upgrade to a version that does, but before I did they released the new version that won't run on Snow Leopard.  I'm not sure my iMac will run the newer OS well so I'd like to stay on Snow Leopard if possible.  Is there a way to find an older version of Garagband that will let me exchange projects with my iPad, but not make me upgrade my iMac OS?
    Thanks!

  • Address Bar works on one user account and not on the other

    Hi,
I've trawled through so many forums to find an answer to my problem - perhaps it's quite unique.
About a year ago my firefox address bar's autocomplete stopped working at all. I have the latest version and I've tried all the tricks around dumping the cache etc. Anyway, I got a new Mac yesterday and I opened up Firefox and everything worked as it should - great.
However, I moved all my files/settings/applications etc across from my ole mac via migration assistant and now firefox does not work properly on that user account. So, I have two user accounts on the same mac, both running the same software applications. The user account with all the old files etc is the one I want to continue to use but Firefox won't work properly on it.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled, updated the version, cleared the cache...everything I can think of.
I'm sick of Chrome crashing on me.
    Can anyone help???

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Error message: "application.exe has stopped working" under BEX event name on Windows 7 64-bit.

I am trying to run a third party program on my Windows 7 64-bit. It has an executable file.

    Hi Brian,
    Thank you for the reply!
The third party software provider wrote the source code in C. When I compiled this source code, the DLL file will be created in store in the Release folder in the same project directory of the source code.
I just double check my computer, I have the following Visual C++ packages installed on it:
    1. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    2. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64)
    3. Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.21022

  • IPhoto '11 works on one user account but not the other

I upgraded to iPhoto '11 from iPhoto '08 a couple of weeks ago using the MacApp store. After doing so, I opened the application on my main user account, received a message that the library had to be updated, the application did so, and it has been working wonderfully since. The problem I'm having is with my wife's user account. I did not open the application and upgrade the library immediately on this account. Before I could do so, my wife hooked up her iPhone to sync, which automatically opened iPhoto. I get the gray screen with the large spinning wheel in the center, and her library never appears. I have tried two strategies to fix this, and so far, have had no luck. The first was to hold option while launching the application, and selecting her library. I get the exact same result doing this. My next strategy was to completely delete iPhoto from my system, then re-download and reinstall it, and try to open the library once again. Unfortunately, this did not work. I thought the next step should be to delete iPhoto '11, reinstall iPhoto '08, open my wife's library using iPhoto '08, then reinstall '11 and upgrade her library. Since iLife came preinstalled on my mac when I purchased it years ago, I'm not certain how to reinstall iPhoto '08. Does anyone know how to do this, or have another suggestion for solving this problem? Thank you in advance for your help!
