Logo Effect

How in the world was this created? How would you achieve this geometric effect?
http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/7298

I drew two concentric circles, then an oval running from the left edge of the outer circle to the right edge of the inner circle. Height was whatever gave me curvature that came close to the outer circle.
Duplicated by rotating 72° around the centre of the concentric circles.
Live paint.
Expand and add gradient.

I need to re create the Saturday Night Fever logo , I have the font, I'm able to use the extrude but I'm having a bit of trouble getting the stroke lines in between the letters. I'm sure someone out there can give me a pointer or two on how to get this to look a bit more like the original.

Don't always think of 3D Effect as an end; it is often more useful as merely a means to an end.
This should be clear enough to give you one general way to proceed:

  • How to make this logo effect? Help please!

How to make this effect? I'm new in illustrator.

It looks like 3 discs with a 2d image applied to them. I would try the 3d revolve tool to create one, then duplicate it for the other two.

  • Testing Effective Date Processing on a Logo

We have a signature change effective 5/1/2012.
I created a new version of the logo with that effective date, but since today is only 4/19/2012 Documaker is still producing the older version of the signature logo.
I have the RUNDATE configured in my FSISYS to use the Policy Effective Date from my input XML. In my test scenario, the Policy Effective date is 5/8/2012, so it should be picking up the new logo effective 5/1.
    < TRN_FIELDS >
    RunDate = !/POLICY/Policy_Dte
I also have the RUNDATE configured in all of my DFD files.
It seems that Documaker is ignoring the RUNDATE I am passing in the XML and is using the system date (If I make the effective date of the new logo 4/19 it works.)
Any thoughts / help would be greatly appreciated.
    Dave

Haven't tried effective date processing myself, but the article "Understanding Run Dates" in Documaker Studio help indicates a run date must be in YYYYMMDD format. Is that the case? Otherwise, what version of RP are you running?

  • IMovie has dragged photo from iPhoto too far off screen that I cant find it

I have opened a logo within the iMovie viewer screen that had so much black around it that I couldn't figure out which way to drag the photo to find the small logo surrounded by black. After so much dragging around I am not sure which way I need to drag the photo around within the iMovie viewer to have it centered, much less even visible. Apparently, iMovie saves that setting. Now even when I open completed projects where the photo was centered it is not showing it. I think it has the photo so far off to the left, right, below or above that it won't find any of them. I have tried zooming in and out with the photo settings in iMovie. Still nothing. I tried using other pictures very large or very small but am afraid that I dragged the first one around which was about 30" x 30" with the logo only occupying about 4" in the center that I have moved the center too far off the axis that it would be occupying the theoretical space several feet off the center of the viewer and have no idea which way to drag it to get it back into the center. Hope that makes sense.

    Hey,
Thanks for the quick response. I am trying to bring a logo from a near pinpoint using Ken Burns effect to as big as I can before I transition to a bumper. I did this once before and had the same problem. I finally found the center of the picture/logo by moving it around, trial and error and luck. I have tried to use known good images in place of the logo that went black and it seems they are all showing black as if they are all so far off center they only show black. I have opened finished projects where it shows a similar logo effect and when I go to 'edit photo settings' in the completed project it the image goes (or shows) black.
Now, any project I go to I can't bring in any picture from iPhoto without it showing just black. If you try using a photo in iMovie from iPhoto and put it off center, it seems the next time you try using another one it's starting point is just as far off center (the same point) as the last one that was moved around.
Not sure if I explained that correctly.

  • Need Build Advice/Critique Please

This is my first post here so I'll start with a little info about myself and my video editing needs.  I'm an amateur when it comes to Adobe Premiere.  I used Vegas for a few videos.  I now have a subscription to the Creative Cloud, and have made a few videos in the past for work (taking 3D animations and splicing segments together, adding a couple logos, effects, etc. - nothing too fancy) as well as a couple for personal use.  My edits consist mostly of splicing video clips (from my Canon 60D DSLR), overlaying a music track, then sticking an intro at the beginning...  Nothing fancy.  I'd certainly like to do better and increase my skillset, create better intros, etc...
Aside from my 8-5, I run a successful home based leather holster business in my spare time.  But, making holsters is a TON of work, so...  early on, I made a few tutorial videos available via online rental (pay a few bucks, get viewing access for 24 hours).  They sold pretty well, but when I upgraded my website I couldn't get the rental system to work so I decided to make them freely avaialble on YouTube and try monetizing them with little success so far.  With my new videos, I might like to switch back to the rental system if I can make it work on my website.
My videos are generally just tutorials intended to teach people how to make leather holsters and other leather items - I guess you'd say I'm a YouTube'r, though I only have a handfull of videos out there currently (my current computer ran out of storage space and it's too old and slow to be of much use).  My family photo collection is around 100GB and growing (3 young kids).  I use Photoshop pretty heavily at work, and will use it at home, though less intensively (cleaning up pattern scans, editing photos, etc.).
To give you an idea of the type of videos I've made, and will likely continue to make (hopefully gradually better over time once I can afford better lighting, etc.), you can look here:
    http://www.adamsleatherworks.com/hows-it-made/
Anyway, I'm certainly no pro editor, and I don't have a ton of money to spend, so please take a look at this list and let me know what you think....
    Motherboard - ASRock X79 Extreme6 LGA 2011 - $220
    CPU - Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz LGA 2011 - $230
    RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws X 16GB (4 x 4GB) 1600 - $100
    Drive C (OS & Programs) - OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD - $120
    Drive D (Media & Projects, Photos, Documents, etc.) - Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 2TB - $90
    Drive E (Page-file, Exports) - OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD - $120
    Drive F (Swap, Previews) - OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD - $120
Drive G (Backup of D drive) - debating on just using my WD Passport external drive for now (free, for now)
    Optical Drive - LG 14x SATA Blu-ray interal rewriter - $80
Case - Fractal Design Define R4 ATX Mid Tower - $125
    Power Supply - EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750G 750W 80 Plus Gold - $140
    CPU Cooler - Corsair Hydro H100 - $105
    Extra Fans (2) - Noctua NF-F12 PWM 120mm - $16.25 each
    Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB - $220
    OS - Windows 8 Pro 64bit - $140
    Media Card Reader - Kingston FCR-HS3 15-in-1 USB 3.0 - $27
    Mouse/Keyboard - Logitech MK550 Wireless - $65
    Monitors (2) - 23" to 24" matching LCD screens @ 1920x1080 - $170 each
The total for that list is around $2,345, almost exclusively from www.newegg.com, with just a couple items from Amazon.  Please bear in mind it includes new monitors and a mouse/keyboard combo.  I want big monitors, but they don't have to be stellar performers.  Color accuracy (while desired) isn't critical.  I'm not a wedding photographer or anything like that...
I'm not sure if I need to be using RAID 1 on the D: drive - I'm pretty good about backing up my files to my WD Passport.  I don't know that I need RAID 0 for speed since I'm not doing a ton of editing, nor will my timelines have many layers to them.  I think RAID 10 is a little overkill for someone like me, but I'm open to input from others.
Lastly - I'm curious what the routine is for recovering space on your "D" drive once you've edited and ouput your videos.  I look at all these YouTube'ers that have hundreds of hour long videos and always wonder what kind of storage system they have in place - I ask, but they never answer!  I'm leaning towards archiving my current videos to blu-ray discs, then deleting them from my drives...?  Or should I store my "business" related videos on a dedicated drive, back it up via RAID 1, then migrate those to larger drives as time goes on and never actually delete/remove any of my videos?  I have little experience with RAID, so I'm not sure what the actual process is for migrating to larger drives.
Anyway, enough rambling, and I look forward to whatever help you folks can provide.
    Thanks,
    Eric Adams

I put some ideas on my web page at http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM
The "maximum" computer I list is similar to what you show... but I would suggest the full tower case I list, since it will be better for drive/cabling space and cooling

Many of these effects can be accomplished with Motion and 3-D animation software. I use Lightwave and PiXELS 3D. The logo effects could be replicated using a combination of animated light sources, volumetric lighting, and particle effects.
If you are not familiar with 3D animation software t, they have a very steep learning curv, take a substantial amount of time to render unless you have a render farm, but can yield impressive results. Compositing software like Shake is often used to incorporate animations with motion video.
    Hope this helps,

This looks like the final logo was created with several layers probably in Illustrator, then the file was most likely imported into After Effects and revealed by animating mask paths.

  • Best way to put 3D effect on logo?

I am using FCP Studio and on most video I work on there is some sort of 3D fly in of the companies logo at the beginning of the video. when I was using Pinnacle Liquid, I would just add a 3d effect to the logo and adjust the parameters inside the effect. Now on FCP, what is the best way to animate a logo? Do I add a "Basic 3D" filter in the Perspective folder in the effects menu? This seems a little clunky because you have to go to different tabs (filter and motion) to do the adjusting. Would I want to use motion for this? Sorry if these are simple questions, but I am just getting up to full speed on FCP.
    Thanks for the help!
    John Schenkel

    Hi John,
Basic 3D will give you a 3D motion (x,y, and z space) but there is no depth to the object.
Boris Title 3D will give you the ability to fake depth but if you move the object around it's still 2D.
If you're looking for a fly in you should explore After Effects, Boris Grafitti, Zaxwerks, or 3D Studio Max.
I'm hopeful Apple will include some sort of simple 3D titling or objects in the next version of FCP or Motion.

  • I want to make thumbnail pictures of logo to have the full effect on Facebook

I have some logos on Facebook and want to have their full names and not half of it.  How to make a thumbnail to have the full effect.  Any ideas?

How images are displayed on FaceBook is a matter for Facebook.
You can chnage the size of an image using the export dialogue.
    File -> Export
In the resulting dialogue note two options:
Jpeg Quality is the amount of compression used on the file. Lower Quality means a smaller file.
Size refers to the Dimensions (length by breadth) of the photo in Pixels. Smaller dimensions means smaller file size.

  • Can I take the titles effect Horizontal Blur and add it to my png logo?

    Hello everyone,
I really like the horizontal blur effect (well at the moment I do).  Can I add that effect to my logo?
I have tried copy/paste attributes & effects, but the effect does not show up.  I've looked on line for suggestions

  • How to get this logo and effects in Illustrator?

    Hi Guys,
I would like to design a logo that has similar effects (3D, bevel, shape, stroke, ...) effects like the "Circus Baroness" on the poster below. How do I get this in Illustrator?
    Many thanks!
    Bob

It can be done. The basic warped shapes of the text can easily be done in Illustrator with Envelope Distort.
1.) Type out "BARONESS" in a circus-like font. Then draw a rectangle that is a bit larger than that. Use the Anchor Point Tool to pull in the top and bottom of the rectangle a bit to form a concave shape. Align the "BARONESS" text and the concave rectangle shape so they are centered vertically and horizontally, the shape should be overlapping the text. With both items selected, go to Object > Envelope Distort > Make With Top Object. That will warp the text to the rectangle shape. You can release the text from this shape at any time by going back under Envelope Distort and choosing Release. Or you can choose Object > Expand to make the warp permanent.
2.) For the "CIRCUS" part, draw a rectangle approximately the length of the "BARONESS" text. Type out the "CIRCUS" text and center it over top of the rectangle. Draw two stars with the Star Tool and position them to the left and right of "CIRCUS". Select all of these and group them. Then go under Object > Envelope Distort > Make With Warp > and choose "Arc". You can adjust the Arc settings to your liking. Similarly, you can choose Object > Expand to make these permanent.
From there, you would just need to play around with the Appearance Panel to add a stroke and fill color, and play with the Shadow & Glow effects to approximate a beveled look. I would look up some tutorials on how to achieve a beveled look using the Appearance Panel. It's kind of like equivalent of Layer Styles in Photoshop, but it also functions a little differently. Some effects you could do more easily in Photoshop take a few more steps in Illustrator.

  • Using an effect as a logo

We've created a logo in Indesign (CS3 windows) that uses the bevel and emboss effect.  It's just a word with that effect applied to it, the word is Pantone 877 silver, the effect uses another dark grey Pantone colour, so it's a 2 spot colour logo.
Question is what is the best way to save and use this logo?  I've exported it to PDF but no matter how high I make the compression the size of the pixels in the logo don't change.  I'd like to have something that could be scaled up without worrying (within reason) about running out of resolution.
And to anyone who thinks this is the wrong way to create a logo, I agree!  I can't use Illustrator for nuts though.

Thanks, that worked.  I had to play around with the Adjust Scaling Percentage Preference though.  When it's turned on and you scale an Indesign object with what I though was a 'live' effect on it it will keep the effects proportions relative.  However when you export it the resolution of the effect will be as if it was still the smaller size!  I had to turn the effect off, turn that pref off, scale it and them manually re apply the effect allowing for the bigger size.  It was only then I could get a higher resolution version.  If I wasn't specifically looking out for that I wouldn't have noticed so it's something to be aware of....

  • How do I make aqua effect logo

    Hi,
I know this doesn't have anything to do with motion, but the adobe forums are almost useless, and I figured almost everybody that uses motion, has used adobe illustrator or photoshop also. So heres my question.
I am making a logo I want the logo to have an aqua effect similar to the itunes icon, or the office for mac icons. Is there an easy way to do this, and with what program.
    Thank you,
    Caleb

I think your assumption regarding AE and Motion is not valid - I, for instance, do not have Adobe Illustrator, and have only a passing association with PhotoShop. That said, I'd just follow a tutorial like this one:
    http://www.axialis.com/tutorials/tutorial-misc003.html
but apply the principals to tools within Motion.
