Logon procedure hangs on my Solaris 10, why?

Today we added more RAM to the Virtual Machine called SRWIKI501 and now it has 1024 GB RAM but after reboot it hangs with this:
SunOS Release 5.10 Version Generic_127128-11 64 bit

I am Sun Solaris 10 (Update 5) 64 bit on Vmware ESX Server 3.0.2. I do not have Vmware Tools installed yet, I was going to, but I am left outside the door, how can I debug this in order to get the system back on track?
I am new to SunOS 10 and I have my daily work on AIX but I want to learn this. I have googled forward and backwards and I see that other have similar problems, however I get my login they don't. I had a system running before the reboot.
Weird, because I can do this:

• Error - Logon not possible; none of the active logon procedures is possible

Dear Gurus,
I'm trying to configure SSL with User mapping to SICF service: NWBC.
-SSL configured with STRUST transaction and I see that it is working via Internet Explorer
-SICF service NWBC was set to: "Required with Client Certificate (SSL)"
-User mapping was set like described in this article: https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmobile71/helpdata/en/17/1514e9b7eb4f74b0b49327b8f2a662/frameset.htm
But I get error:
Logon not possible; none of the active logon procedures is possible
Any idea ?
Please advise,
Dimitry Haritonov

Hi,
I would try to check logs first. In transaction SMICM you can set up level of logging for ICF services. So set it up to the highest possible level (this one actually dumps whole content of HTTP request, so maybe that's not necessary) and try logon again. You should get a reasonable info and you can try to figure out why it fails.
Cheers

• Using Active-Directory PW at SAP logon procedure

Hello,
I have the requirement no to use single sign on for some systems with sensitive data, but would like to check during sap logon procedure the from our central active directory password.
is there any best practice configuration or SAP / AD Win Addon solution available to connect SAP NW abap 7.40 at Win2012 sever with our active directory. Nearly all win based applications can handle a PW check from application to AD. Is there any SAP or Partner implementation helpful to expand the SAP client internal User-PW check?
Thanks in advanced for alternatives to the standard client SSO or any idea in the direction using active directory password within sap-logon.
Please give me a short feedback if you need more details.
regards,
Bernhard Mair
Goethe-Institut München

The SAP NetWeaver ABAP app server only accepts SAP user id and password or it can use SNC to authenticate the user when SAP GUI is used on workstation. So, if you want the user to be prompted to enter their Active Directory credentials during a logon using SAP GUI, and you don't want SSO, then you need to purchase a third party product.
Please note, that SAP is not JUST a Windows based application, as it can also be installed on Unix and Linux, so SAP have made it work in same way on all platforms without any 'special' windows authentication capabilities.
Thanks

• Programme works on Windows hangs on Sun Solaris(8) 5.8

The programme works fine on Windows but hangs on Solaris 8(5.8).
The programme hangs after processing of files is done .
Yes my programme has Synchronization and threading.
The code waits on a method.
engine.GetName().equalsIgnoreCase(name)
the GetName is Synchronized method , if i remove that synchronization it waits on the next synchronizatoin.
It seems like the locks on the Synch code are not getting released.
The same programee does not hang on some solaris machines but takes almost 8--9 minutes to exit from that piece of code and safe shutdown of the process on similar configuration machine.
1)My Question is it a patch issue ,If yes what are the patches I should have for sun solaris8(5.8)
2)Anything to do with the Environ??
3)The compilation etc??
Let me know your answers I can definitely provide more Clues.
Ani

The programme works fine on Windows but hangs on
Solaris 8(5.8)....And this leads you to believe it must be the OS fault and not your code's fault?
Maybe you have a race/deadlock condition that just so happens to manifest itself when you run it on Solaris because of different processor timing. I'm suggesting maybe it could also hang on Windows, given the right timing condition.

• Procedure Hanging in the DB

Hi,
I have a procedure executed from a Java server. The procedure hangs, and the server keeps waiting. When I query V$SESSION, V$PROCESS and the V$SQLAREA all I can see is the procedure name with bind variables. I need to find where exactly in the procedure it is hanging or the query or point where the failure occurs.
This is happenning only for a given set of data.
Thanks in advance,
Rajesh.

Thanks.
I'd like to have a query to get the exact sql that is hanging. Please let me know if you have the same.
thanks,
Rajesh.

• Procedure hanging..

Hi,
alter procedure <procedure name> compile;
After issue that command it is hanging... why?
Thanks,

Usually because it's trying to acquire a lock on a dictionary table, and that table is already locked.
Occurs frequently if procedure a calls procedure b, while procedure b calls procedure a.
Find out whether your session is waiting for locks.
Eventually the hanging session will receive a timeout error, but this can take 5 to 10 minutes.

• Procedure hangs while bulk delete

Hi,
I have the following situation:
I'm trying to delete the records using oracle bulk delete feature using SAVE EXCEPTIONS clause so that I can count how many were actually deleted and how many were not due to referential integrity constraint. I tried this on one table which has ca. 40,000 child records... this means that 40,000 exceptios were recorded by the SAVE EXCEPTIONS clause. Could this be the reason for the procedure to go in hang state ?
Could someone please advise me on this as to what might be going wrong. I'm working Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.4.0 - 64bit.
Thanks.
-Patza

Anything could be the reason why something is hanging given that you've provided very little detail. So lets start at the beginning.
1. What platform? CPU? Operating system? RAM?
2. How long have you let it run?
3. Have you checked the alert log?
4. Have you tried starting with a delete of 100 rows, then increased to 1000, 5000, 10000, etc? If not why not? Have you then tried incrementally adding the child records to force the exceptions? If not why not? Start with generating 1, then 10, then 100 exceptions.

• Executing batch file from Java stored procedure hang

Dears,
I'm using the following code to execute batch file from Java Stored procedure, which is working fine from Java IDE JDeveloper 10.1.3.4.
public static String runFile(String drive)
String result = "";
String content = "echo off\n" + "vol " + drive + ": | find /i \"Serial Number is\"";
try {
File directory = new File(drive + ":");
File file = File.createTempFile("bb1", ".bat", directory);
file.deleteOnExit();
FileWriter fw = new java.io.FileWriter(file);
fw.write(content);
fw.close();
// The next line is the command causing the problem
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /c " + file.getPath());
BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
String line;
while ((line = input.readLine()) != null)
result += line;
input.close();
file.delete();
result = result.substring( result.lastIndexOf( ' ' )).trim();
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
result = e.getClass().getName() + " : " + e.getMessage();
return result;
The above code is used in getting the volume of a drive on windows, something like "80EC-C230"
I gave the SYSTEM schema the required privilege to execute the code.
EXEC DBMS_JAVA.grant_permission('SYSTEM', 'java.io.FilePermission', '<<ALL FILES>>', 'read ,write, execute, delete');
EXEC DBMS_JAVA.grant_permission('SYSTEM', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'writeFileDescriptor', '');
EXEC DBMS_JAVA.grant_permission('SYSTEM', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'readFileDescriptor', '');
GRANT JAVAUSERPRIV TO SYSTEM;
I have used the following to load the class in Oracle 9ir2 DB:
loadjava -u [system/******@orcl|mailto:system/******@orcl] -v -resolve C:\Server\src\net\dev\Util.java
CREATE FUNCTION A1(drive IN VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 AS LANGUAGE JAVA NAME 'net.dev.Util.a1(java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
variable serial1 varchar2(1000);
call A1( 'C' ) into :serial1;
The problem that it hangs when I execute the call to the function (I have indicated the line causing the problem in a comment in the code).
I have seen similar problems on other forums, but no solution posted
[http://oracle.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/oracle-jdeveloper-l/run-an-exe-file-using-oracle-database-trigger-1567662]
I have posted this in JDeveloper forum ([t-853821]) but suggested to post for forum in DB.
Can anyne help?

Dear Peter,
You are totally right, I got this as mistake copy paste. I'm just having a Java utility for running external files outside Oracle DB, this is the method runFile()
I'm passing it the content of script and names of file to be created on the fly and executed then deleted, sorry for the mistake in creating caller function.
The main point, how I claim that the line in code where creating external process is the problem. I have tried the code with commenting this line and it was working ok, I made this to make sure of the permission required that I need to give to the schema passing security permission problems.
The function script is running perfect if I'm executing vbs script outside Oracle using something like "cscript //NoLogo aaa1.vbs", but when I use the command line the call just never returns to me "cmd.exe /c bb1.bat".
where content of bb1.bat as follows:
echo off
vol C: | find /i "Serial Number is"
The above batch file just get the serial number of hard drive assigned when windows formatted HD.
Same code runs outside Oracle just fine, but inside Oracle doesn't return if I exectued the following:
variable serial1 varchar2(1000);
call A1( 'C' ) into :serial1;
Never returns
Thanks for tracing teh issue to that details ;) hope you coul help.

• SOAP requests hang for 5 minutes. Why?

As a first step in using the SOAP features integrated in Java 6 I went through the JAX-WS 2.0 tutorial at http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/jax_ws_2/.
I created the simple webservice as well as the client (I am not using the Netbeans IDE but I did the corresponding in my IDE).
I started the service in a local VM and started the local client application as well.
What's really odd is: the service and the client worked on first attempt (and I verified this by inserting println statements into the code), but the return of the result always hangs for pretty exactly 5 minutes (by when - I guess - some timeout strikes).
I.e. the client issues the request and the server-side gets called practically immediately, but the result is passed back to the client only 5 minutes later.
At first I had thought, that things didn't work, but when I got distracted and later returned to my screen I found, that my WebService requests had actually worked as designed.
But why does the return of the response take 5 minutes? Any ideas, anybody?
Michael

I've seen similar behavior, but not on every invocation. In my case:
1) Nightly backups were starting at 5:30PM every day - every request then timed out;
2) Our development servers were virtual machines - they were often slow to wake up.
Otherwise, the web services responded normally.

• With many open tabs (80+) Firefox regularly (every 10sec) hangs for a few seconds because of session storing where the CPU is at 100%. Btw that is the reason why videos in Firefox are hanging every 10sec, too. Why is this operation so demanding?

When I'm using Firefox for a long time and I'm working with several open windows and many open tabs (80+), Firefox hangs/freezes every 10sec for 1-3sec. This is very annoying. The reason for this seems to be the session store operation, which gets executed every 10sec. In my experience (or rather on my computer) this isn't noticeable when I'm just working with around 40 open tabs.
This also seems to be the reason for hanging videos in firefox (although youtube is quite robust; others are not) because they stop every 10sec, too. For this time (the 1-3sec) the taskmanager tells me that firefox is using all the available cpu power. I'm really wondering why the session store operation has such an influence on Firefox' behaviour.
My computer is a Core 2 Duo E6600 with 3GB RAM and a decent hdd.

Just some additional info:
I just had the problem again, and it even occurred when I did not have any tab open! I did not even use Firefox, but just wanted to start to use it, but it did not respond. There was _nothing_ open, and when I checked the TaskManager, the memory consumption was up to 300 MB, and the CPU was again at 100%. After the CPU was down to 0% again, the memory slowly decreased as well. First, to ~260, then to ~200, now to ~170 MB. Maybe it will decrease even further...

• Procedure hangs while create or replace!

Dear All,
My Database is Oracle 11g RAC.
I did few changes in one of my procedure and wanted to re-create it using CREATE OR REPLACE procedure...
The statement hangs for a long time and the concurrency in OEM raises up to a very high level. I tried to find the blocking sessions but for some time there was no blocking session.
I also tried stopping the activities on the tables used in this procedure.
Kindly suggest me what should I do in this situation. I have also tried running the query directly from the server.

• 1.6.0_05 JDK hangs periodically on Solaris 9

Hi,
We currently got a customer, where application server had to be installed to Solaris 9 system and we've got a problem, that entire JVM hangs permanently sometimes, usually under a heavy load. This happens with 1.6.0 JDK (as our product requires 1.6 as minimum version). The same JDK and application never raised similar problem in version 10 of Solaris.
So, are there any official or non-official recommendations on JDK 1.6 and Solaris 9 compatibility and/or recommendations on such pair ?
Our application server is self-contained WAR file, running under Jetty or under external web container, if this does matter. We've played with several GC algorithms and options, but never get a stable result. Usually, hang occurs one-twice per week and typically under a heavy load (large number of users, connecting to the server and initiating server to fire various SQL read/update requets via Hibernate).
Thanks,
Dmitri

Hi Leah,
Have you tried double clicking?
If this doesn't solve the issue, you might want to try using a different version of the browser and disable the pop up blocker on your browser.
Please try this out and let me know.

• Procedure hangs

I tried to execute a procedure in my prod DB it is hanging but when i execute the same in the dev db it is fine and completing in 15 mins.Any clue with this?

my prod DB it is hanging but when i execute the same in the dev db it is fine and completing in 15 minsSince prod db != test db, it is expected to have very different behavior. Volume of data may differ, statistics, number of concurrent sessions....
Check, if you can, AWR or statspack reports to see where's the database actually spend time.

• Stored procedure hanging

Okay, I've got all the code for the stored procedure working. The procedure looks like this
PROCEDURE scp_wide_aftmkt_limit_sum
(p_temp_date IN date,
p_merchant_id IN number,
p_exch_contract_pub_ids IN
exch_contract_pub_id_array,
p_merchant_exchanges IN OUT
limit_count_status_array)
The two arrays look like this -
exch_contract_pub_id_array VARRAY(20) OF NUMBER(10)
limit_count_status_array VARRAY(20) OF limit_count_status_rec
The struct above looks like this -
limit_count_status_rec contains
summed_amt IS NUMBER(38)
trading_limit IS NUMBER(38)
status_text IS VARCHAR2(100)
The code I'm using to setup the procedure call (the jdbcConnection was already setup) -
// Create the array descriptor
ArrayDescriptor ad =
ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("EXCH_CONTRACT_PUB_ID_ARRAY", jdbcConn);
// Create an array using the ids
ARRAY array = new ARRAY(ad, jdbcConn, ids);
//put in stored procedure call here
s = jdbcConn.prepareCall("BEGIN scp_wide_aftmkt_limit_sum(?,?,?,?); END;");
s.setDate(1, new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()));
s.setDouble(2, merchantId.doubleValue());
s.setArray(3, array);
s.registerOutParameter(4, Types.ARRAY, "LIMIT_COUNT_STATUS_ARRAY");
// Call the proc
s.executeUpdate();
// Get the stuff out of the array
Array outArray = s.getArray(4);
ResultSet sumRS = outArray.getResultSet();
The code is hanging on the s.executeUpdate() line forever. I can't figure out if I'm setting up the IN/OUT parameter incorrectly, or if it has to do with the thin drivers I'm using (even though the FAQ says it should work with the thin drivers), or anything else. Any help would be great and if more info is needed, post and I'll get back ASAP. Thanks
