Lombard Display

Hello! Is it possible to change the display setting of a Lombard to Millions? I cant use the slideshow function of iPhoto because I cant set the screen resolution to millions of colors. How can I do that?

Monitor spanning means you have attached a VGA monitor to the PowerBook and the external monitor displays an extension of the desktop (more screen area for displaying windows).

Can't get OSX 10.3.3. installed on my souped-up Lombard

Dear folks,
I really appreciate all the advice you gave me a couple of weeks back on configuring my souped-up Lombard for installing OS X. (vis http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3566749)
Unfortunately, I can't get it to install! I bought a universal 10.3.3 installer on DVD from OWC. But the installation hangs every time I tried to run it. It will successfully erase the drive partition I set aside for OS X, unpack and prepare the installation files, and begin processing them. But at exactly the 51% point on "Processing Base System 2", it hangs every time (I tried it several times).
The system doesn't freeze up; instead the normal installation display disappears and the screen goes crazy. Sometimes it shows rapidly-changing static-like patterns, sometimes weird "oily" washes slowly play across it like I was pressing on the LCD, other times I get patterns of vertical bars. Regardless, what happens is that the installation grinds to a halt until I reboot the machine.
So, I tried downloading and running XPostFacto. It doesn't like my system at all! It hangs with a kernel panic during the initial text screen mode. Forget that!
I'm assuming that I'm hosed; that my system is just too far off the norm to allow me to run OS X. But in case I'm wrong about that, I'm posting this request for suggestions. Anybody have any ideas?

Here's the bad news. Panther was never released on a DVD. Panther was a three disk CD set. The OS X installer discs had black labels with a large gray "X". What you obviously have is an OEM disk or a copy of one that will only work for the Mac model with which it came. What you need is a retail Panther package. You should call OWC and insist that is what they provide you or return your money.
You should be able to get the proper set at http://www.applerescue.com/. You may also find them on eBay, but be sure you get the real thing as I've described.

Can the lid be closed and still run the computer with an external display?

I purchased a 19" LCD display to hook to my G3, everything works fine but I cannot find any reference on whether the lid for the laptop can be closed while running the computer. Can anyone help answer this for me? Currently I am looking at my laptop with the lid half-closed, or is that open...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the computer is plugged in on the AC power adapter. (this is because the power requirements are higher for an external display.)
- Close the PowerBook's display. The PowerBook will go to sleep.
- Connect the external monitor.
- Turn on the external monitor.
- Connect an external Apple USB keyboard and mouse.
- Now the PowerBook will wake from sleep.
Next time when you want your Powerbook to sleep use the "sleep" option from the Blue Apple menu (on the left top).

12" G4 PowerBook Display Compatability

This question has previously been asked but there has not been a response in this discussion. I am constructing a 12" G4 PowerBook from parts. I have the case and various parts from a 1.5mHz 'Book but a display/case from an 867mHz computer. Are these displays interchangeable? I know that I could mix and match the displays from my Pismos and Lombards, but am not so certain with this PowerBook. If not an exact fit, what are the differences?

I can't speak with complete authority, but since the resolution of the 12" book did not change through those generations, I would say there is a very good chance they are mechanically the same and pin compatible. Does it look as though the connectors will mate between the two? If that is the case, then I would have very high confidence they will work together.

PRAM battery reset or similar for PowerBook G3 400MHz Lombard

Hello,
I recently acquired a PowerBook G3 400MHz Lombard? (not pismo)- with the battery dead and it not getting any signs of life beyond a green light on the display or the caps-lock. I was wondering if there is a simple fix that might get this going, similar to removing the PRAM battery on a Pismo that has been sitting there til the batteries drained. Any help would be appreciated so I'm headed in the right direction on this.

Sorry for any confusion. I indeed have a G3 Lombard with the bronze keyboard (Got it in 1999). I then upgraded to the G4 about 3.5 years ago. And just last week I got me a shiny new intel iMac.
The Lombard is currently running Jaguar, but its gotten sluggish and has run out of space (original specs). I want to reinstall OS 9, but I have this current issue with starting it up.
Generally, if the powerbook does boot up, even
occasionally, you do not have a corrupted power
manager. The procedure you quote is for a powerbook
that does not start at all, even after a normal power
manager reset, and this usually occurs when a 'book
has been unused for a few months...this allows the
batteries to run flat and corrupt the power manager.
Unlike desktop computers, powerbooks can run fine
with a dead backup battery.
The computer is being used almost daily...
I would look first at other potential problems...
- Do you have a working main battery?
No.
- Once the 'book is running, does it perform
normally? Can you sleep/wake the 'book and also
perform a restart?
Once it's running it performs normally. I can sleep and wake. I CANNOT perform a restart.
- Once running, open the System Profiler >
Memory...does it report either 512K or 1MB of L2
cache?
My 'book is at home currently... I will check when I get home.
- When shut down, remove the main battery and optical
drive. With the power adapter connected, press the
reset button on the back panel to reset the power
manager, wait 5 seconds, then press the power button.
Does it •always• start normally from a cold start
when following this procedure?
I want to say no, but I will double check this as well when I get home.

Difference Between Lombard and Pismo???

How do you extinguish the difference the PowerBook Lombard and Pismo? I'm planning on purchasing one but the person don't know anything. The only thing that he know is it is 400MHz.

Axl has covered most of the bases, but I thought I'd add a few details that my research took me to when buying my Pismo.
The major differences between the original Bronze Keyboard/Lombard and the Firewire/Pismo PowerBooks are indeed the ports - the Lombard has modem, display, TV-out (on some models),ethernet network, USB, audio in/out and a SCSI port (the SCSI port on a PowerBook looks like a large square connector with 30 pins) all under the rear flap; if the modem is elsewhere, it's a Wallstreet, but they never reached 400MHz. The Pismo has the same combination, but where the large, square port would be (sandwiched between the ethernet and TV-out ports), there are two vertical plugs that may look like large USB ports on first glance. However, they have a three-sided logo that looks like a radioactive symbol. If you have a 4th-generation or earlier iPod, have a look at the two leads you will have recieved with it; the USB is the flat lead, but the Firewire has the larger, wider plug. The symbol on the plug is what will tell you if you have a Pismo.
Now, the subtle differences. The Lombard uses a 66MHz bus on it's processor, which means it uses 66MHz memory. By comparison, the Pismo runs at 100MHz for CPU bus and memory interface, making it faster for the same clock speed.
The Lombard uses roughly the same graphics chip as the Pismo, but runs on a standard PCI interface like the early iMacs. The Pismo has AGP graphics, again making it faster for the same graphics chip.
The Lombard comes with either CD or DVD-ROM drives. This means it's hit or miss whether the notebook supports DVD playback - a decoder module is built into the logic board of some Lombards, but if the PowerBook originally had a CD drive and was upgraded to a DVD drive at a later date, chances are you'll need a decoder card (thats a: if the PowerBook has a DVD drive, and b: if the decoder card isn't present). The Pismo, by contrast, shipped with a DVD drive as standard; the decoder is featured on the logic board of all Pismos.
Otherwise, the chassis is roughly the same - bronze keyboard/trackpad/display release, black plastic case, 14.1" screen PC card slot, etc. The only way of knowing on sight whether you have the Lombard or Pismo is by checking the rear ports. Given what I've mentioned above, the Pismo is always going to have the edge in most applications, but if you need SCSI, then the Lombard is the natural choice. Be aware of what Axl said though; the Lombard isn't cut out for Tiger. You might get lucky and get OSX on it, but I'm not sure about it's capabilities. My Pismo G3-400 runs Tiger quite nicely, but the slower memory and bus of a Lombard might put OSX too far out of reach.

I have developed a BI report with more number of parameters.
Case 1:
When i run my report , I am able to see data for particular condition but one column doesn't show any thing. All the rows in the column are blank.
Case 2
I tried to put the blank column as parameter, The Program works with out displaying that column data.
I am not sure where it is going wrong. I tried running the code in toad and i am able to see the data.
I have checked the code, Parameter description, length, Template and data definition.

For that column did u changed any alias name in the query...
check ur template once by loading the xml data...
check that column form field that matches with the xml tag or not..

Using mini-DVI to VGA adapter to Samsung display

I have 2009 late model of mac mini, The text on display looks washed out, not clear or sharp at all from day one, I thought it was the old model of monitor, tried the same cable to another monitor on another computer, SAME. so I thought the problem could be the cable or adapter.
It's hard for me to believe is the signal from computer. I'm using VGA adapter made by Dynex bought from Best Buy.

Yeah, My old Samsung is lcd synmaster 17", bought many years ago at around $1000. Crazy, crazy price looked back. It's fine when I used it on the retired old Dell. It must be the adapter, trying not to buy another VGA adapter, could not image my next lcd will use one, anyway.
This cable has only 14 pins vs 15 pins on the other cable, not sure if it matters?? Or if Safari has anything to do with it??

Mini-dvi to video adapter changing display on macbook?

I recently purchased a mini-dvi to video adapter for my macbook to be able to view photos and video on my tv. I'm having trouble with the display on my computer when I use the adapter. As soon as I plug in the mini-dvi video adapter into the computer the display on my computer switches from 1280 X 800 to 640 X 480. Attached to the adapter I have an s-video cable to my tv. The display shows the same on the tv but in black and white.

Turn mirroring off. That way the two displays can run independently from one another. The mirroring check box is in Displays Preferences under the Arrangement tab.

Display problems using mini-dvi to video adapter

I recently purchased the mini-dvi to video adapter for my powerbook to use my TV as a monitor and to play pictures and videos from the laptop to the TV. I am getting a full color display on the TV, but it's only the screen saver. None of my files, text, or any other desktop folders or menus appear when I open them up on the laptop. The only screen that opens is the display preferences when I open that up, but it's a different set of preferences than what's in my computer's display preferences, as it's header is "NTSC/PAL". But other than that 1 menu, nothing is appearing but the screen saver.

OK, I discovered that I didn't know what I was doing. With the Mini-DVI to video adapter, you need to use an S-Video cable that plugs into an S-video jack on the TV, and then you need a separate cable to plug into the audio out jack on the MacBook to plug into the TV.
I think you could also use an S-video to RCA component cable if you have a TV with component video input, but I couldn't get that to work so I went to the s-video to s-video cable.

Step 1, I created Answer-request, create .rtf file with Word and add the request name, Add bar chart and table, preview PDF is working fine with data, Upload this template to Answers, View Template from Answer is working fine with data.
Step 2, Answers – More Products > BI Publisher > My Folders > Create a new report > Edit > Data Model > New > Type: SQL Query > Data Source: Oracle BI EE > Query Builder > from SupplierSales assign Customer, Periods, Sales Facts (select Region, state, Year, Units Shipped) > Results > Save > Save
Click Layouts > New > enter Name ….. > Click Layouts > borrows .rtf file in Manage T file > Upload > Save > Click View
It is showing only the .rtf file without data. Why there is no data?
Please guide me to solve this issue.

We dint face this kind of issue while developing other reports.

View not displaying the data in some of the clients

We have an application which is built using .net , but the database is 11gR1 we are connecting vis ODAC ... it was working good.
But when we treid to move to other server, we created a user B , created a VIEW.
But we are facing one strange problem that - when i query its showing data in client PC , but when i ran it from Windows Server 2008 R2 edtion no data is displaying?

Can not properly view cover flow in full screen in external display

My mac is the new Mac book pro 15.4 inch screen and I connect my mac pro to external display e.g. Samsung LCD monitor 24 inches.
The bug is that I can not PROPERLY view full screen (in external display) for some application e.g. iTunes, and Front Row.
- When I use iTunes, I can not properly view Cover Flow view in full screen (in the external display screen) except the case of mirror display.
- For Front Row, I can not view full screen in external display but only my mac display.
However, for other DVD or VDO players, I can view movie on external display in full screen and I still be able to do other works on my mac screen.
Please let me know how to solve it.

I have to trigger a mail whenever there is a change in fields that are captured in parameter t_ffbk.
However i am unable to capture the the screen values for this parameter as FK03 is in display mode.Please tell me how can i capture the screen field values in parameter T_LFBK.
