Long blank clip????

Hi, wonder if anyone can help me!
I want to insert a blank/black clip or still which lasts for over 5 mins and I can't work out how to do it. Up till now I have been using a still black image which I import but I need it to run for longer than the 1 min max it allows.
What is the easiest way round this?
thankyou in advance for any advice and help

Another way is to make an empty space between two clips by sliding one of them to the right or left. Control-click on the empty space, and in the resulting drop down menu, select Convert Empty Space to Clip. Control-click on the clip you just created and, in the resulting panel, adjust the duration in the duration box.
But the copy-paste method that Karsten Schulter suggested would work just as well, and might even be faster in your case.
As an aside, I am not aware of any "1 min max" on any still image. You should be able to control-click/Show Info and set the duration for any length of time you want.

  • How do I join multiple (short) audio clips into one single long audio clip in Premiere Pro CS5?

    Hello,
The question is in the title but I'm wondering how I can join multiple (short) audio clips into one single long audio clip in PP CS5.5.  I put all my short clips right next to each other and selected all of them to see what options are available by right clicking and using the toolbar options at the top.  The closest that I got was to nest the sequence, but that's not what I really want.
I'd like to merge all the short clips into one single (long) audio file to use under the video.
Thoughts are welcome and  greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Melvin

O.K. This is kind of fundamental and you will need to learn up on this fully ...but for now...
Make sure you have the WAB ( work area bar )covering the length of the audio clips. ( You do not need to select them)
Go to the File Menu> Export Media
You will be given all the Export Options.  Choose Wave File
Select option for Export Work Area.
Choose where to export the file to ( HD location)
    follow your nose from there....

BTW - Why are you taking the audio to Audition anyway? What are you going to do to it.

  • Why can I no longer drag clips?

I can no longer drag clips from the viewer to the canvas or timeline. When I the clip seems to disappear behind the canvas or timeline. "Show Overlay" is checked. The Edit Overlay box, which used to appear in the canvas, no longer appears. I use Final Cut Pro 7. I've edited a feature with no problem, so I'm assuming something has gotten switched off? Thanks.

Have you tried trashing your preferences? That is the usual first step when FCP begins to act in unexpected ways.
You can download Preference Manager (free) from Digital Rebellion and it will do it for you:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Your preferences will be reset to default settings the next time you launch FCP.

  • FCPX10.1.1 does not solve the problem with long-time clip editing!

    OS: clean installed mac os10.9.1
    FCPX: FCPX10.1.1
Project: 4clips, all of the clips is about 1 hour long (dvcprohd)
    Disk: 900MB/S++
    machine specs:
    2*3.06Ghz 6-core
    24GB DDR3
and I've tried these graphic cards:
    K5000
    and
    2 5770
    all get the same results:
If I double press the "L" key, the response of FCPX is too slow
If I do other operation like browse the clip, or import long time clip,
the FCPX will become too slow to browse the timeline.
I've found the FCPX like to generate audio waves of the clip and
there's no option to shutdown this! I've tried all the options in FCPX like
do not show the waveform of audio in preference and close the audio waveform in timeline
I don't think I can work the project with 10.1.x.
the 10.0.9 also has the 1st problem, but don't have the 2nd problem.
Another project: 2000++ 4K 50P clips(XAVC), but on FCPX 10.0.9, all of the clips is less than 40mins, always 20seconds.
though it will get slower when we import clips day after day,
it's much more smoother than 10.1.1!!!!!!
    so,
I don't think we should update to 10.1.x for the little promotion of performance.
and 10.1.x also do not support nvidia K5000 card.
the render is slower than ait5700.....
I hope apple can solve the problem,
all of the above is just basic editing needs!
if the fcpx can not do even a long-time clip editing
    why should I use it?

    2 project:
    1. 4*1 hour clips dvcprohd
that's the problem! I can not bear it.
    2. 2000++clips 4K XAVC 50P project which I don't run on FCPX 10.1.1
I run it in fcpx10.0.9, it's fine, but slower when I imported more and more clips.
until now I can bear it.
the fcpx10.1.1 editing long-time clip has problem:
    1.
it use 150MB/s harddisk speed to generate the waveform.
I have 900MB/s disk speed, so that's not the problem,
but it generate all the time!
1 hour clip's wavefrom generates for 1 hour without stopping, if I stop it , the fcpx crashed!
    2.
when I skimming the clip for editing, the fcpx gets slower, always 2mins to response my operation.
    3.
when I double press J or L key, the fcpx will need about 1 min to response.
the FCPX10.0.9 editing long-time clip problem:
the fcpx10.0.9 can handle the long-time clips, but also has very slow response when I doulbe press J or L key.

  • Please help me with this urgent viewing and editing question for a long video clip.

Hi, I have never used this software before and when I imported a 2 hours and 12 minute video clip of my sister's wedding into the system and added it as one sequence into the program it would only allow me to watch and edit the first 2 minutes.
Why is that and how can I rectify this so that I can watch and edit the whole clip?
Also, can such a long video clip be edited by trimming it and creating transitions where I see fit?
Thanks so much for your advice as I am feeling really stuck right now.

  • Help deleting a blank clip.

I just converted from the trial version of Elements 12 to the paid version, and I could not get rid of the watermark.  I tried rerendering the files but with no luck, so I replaced the clip.   Now for some reason, I have a 2 1/2 minute blank clip that I just cannot delete.  I have tried "Delete and Close Gap" but it is not highlited, so that does nothing.  I just cannot get rid of that gray clip.  Help!  Thanks.

    Skycity
    Thanks for the screenshot.
I am not seeing any gray clip.
What I am seeing is an empty space between two sections of your Timeline on Video Track 1, nothing above and a portion of the Soundtrack below.
You should be able to right click that space, get a pop up "Delete and Close Gap", but sometimes the placement of other components of the tracks may interfere with that command. In that case, you select what needs to be moved and move them with the mouse cursor. There is a technique where you draw a rectangle with the mouse cursor around a group of  clips to select them.
That is my take on your situation as of now.
    More later.
    Thanks.
    ATR
But, in the present situation, closing that gap may present other problems. Best case, if you could find a replacement image for that spot. Best hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard as you drag the replacement into place on the Timeline to avoid disturbing everything else.

  • Exporting one section within a long video clip

Hi. I would like to work with a 2 minute section from a long video clip. One way to do it would be to import just that section into iMovie from the camcorder. But is there any way to accomplish this with a clip that has already been imported? In other words, can I take a section of a clip in iMovie and save it as a separate clip (or sub clip) that could then be edited, copied, exported or whatever? I am using iMovie 3.
    Thanks.

    Hi Howard
    Yes there is some ways.
I would cut up the clip to get the required part.
Export this as DVstream via QuickTime expert mode - start a new iMovie project and import.
OR rather beeing lazy. I would export out neede part to my Camera and a new tape.
Use this tape in a new project

  • Deriving synced subclips from long unsynced clips?

When I capture my footage from MiniDV tape it often then has to be synced up in FCP. I'm sure there are steps to be taken to minimize this (or maybe not) but in the meantime I'm wondering how to deal with the unsynced footage.
I tried putting the whole long clip in a sequence and syncing it there. That works but then if I make subclips they don't stay together. The subclips taken from the browser to a different sequence paste linked but not lined up. It is the exact video clip and audio clip that I want but the respective tracks are askew from one another. Is there a way to fix the subclips and if not what is the most efficient workflow for deriving synced subclips from long unsynced clips?

Update: The workflow I've found works the best is to
    1) sync up the long clip
    2) use the razor tool to create my subclips using command-U and storing them in a temporary bin.
When I paste these subclips to my timeline they are the correct in and out points for video and audio tracks but they are out of sync to the degree they were in the original so rather than unlink them and line them up individually each time I...
    3) take a big batch of the clips and put them in a temporary timeline
    4) select all of them and unlink all of them
    5) select all video clips and line them up with their audio counterparts
    6) link them all back together
    7) select all and drag them to a new bin, sometimes with "synced" in parentheses after the name of the bin to let me know these are the ones that are good to go.

  • Long blank screen on startup

I have a 2012 Mac Mini i7 with 10.9.2.  This morning when I rebooted, it did not work right and I just saw static on my monitor.  I manually turned off the Mac Mini then restarted it.  It boots fine now but now I have a long blank screen after the chime and before it asks for my password.  I reset my SMC and PRAM a few times but no change.  I reselected my Macintosh HD in the Startup disk too.  It is like it is timing out looking for something and then after about two minutes it goes to my Macintosh HD for the password.  So it boots up fine now except for this new long pause.  Before it would go to the password almost immediately after the chime.
Any other thoughts on what I should do?  Thanks.
    Doug

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes  after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • How do I create a new event from a section of a long video clip

When I try to select a section of a long clip and drag it to a new event in the iMovie event library, the whole clip moves into the new event.  Isn't there a way to just select and move a section to the new event?

This does work, but the process is crushingly difficult for my mother. (Try to explain to a 60 year old that you need to reveal the clip in finder. Trim it, save it, trim it, save it, etc for each part of the video. Then re-import those clips into iMovie and delete the original large file from your events). This could have been accomplished with one keyboard shortcut or menu command.
I'm opposed to creating projects to organize events because it doesn't make sense when creating a Christmas montage to open a project and look for a clip then find it in the events when you could otherwise just look through Christmas 1984 and pull the clip you want. It creates a dual paradigm.
More than anything I want to attract Apple to this glaring flaw in their product. I can't see the downside of in-app splitting of events which was a feature of iMovie v9. Why remove it entirely? I know it's a rarely used feature, it could have been suitably hidden to avoid accidents. It wouldn't frustrate the average user, but it has confused the ever-living **** out of my mother.

  • Can no longer pull clip into timeline from Viewer??

I no longer have the ability to drag a clip, or sub clip if I've chosen in and out points, into the timeline from the Viewer.
When I attempt to do this the clip moves as if I'm repositioning the clip within the Viewer window, but does not move to the timeline.....thoughts??

Either the video track that you are trying to edit on is locked (dark grey diagonal lines thru the track)

  • Best workaround for editing long AVCHD clips in CS6?

Hi there, I've recently switched to CS6 and have run into incredibly long render times using native AVCHD clips (13 hours to encode a 30 minute m2v).  After reading many posts it seems the issue I am running into is a known bug.  So, my question is: is there a good workaround for this issue?
It sounds like this issue is only on long clips.  Is it possible to automatically split the .mts files using another program (virtualDub?) prior to importing?
If transcoding from the native format is required (until the fix) what would be the best method using Windows 7 64bit?  I have heard Avid's DNxHD is a good lossy codec, but I hate to do this if there is an accepted workflow I should learn instead.
    Thanks for any advice!

  • Long video clip challenge

I have a video clip that has over two hundred animated
elements, that I need to make selectable for the end user.
Is there any other way other than creating 200 individual
cast members, and then animating each cast members region to match
the elements in the background video. The problem is that my video
clip is 12 min long and in order to match the timing of the cast
member to the appropriate part of the video, I'm having to extend
the video sprite the entire length of the movie (about 21,000
frames give or take a thousand), does anyone know of an easier way.
By the way I'm using MPEG Advace extra with my MPEG 2 video file,
    for what it's worth.
    Thank you for any help,
    Devin

With Mpeg Advance, you can save cuepoints wherever you want
    to have
something sync up. Check the docs. There is a page about how
    to use
them. I have used this to time external audio with the video
    that is
    playing.
You should not even try to sync stuff to a video using score
    animation.
That will play at different speeds on different machines.
    Just put
the Mpeg Advance sprite in one frame with a 'go to the frame'
    frame
script. Have a behavior script on the Mpeg Advance sprite
    that checks
    for mostRecentCuePoint or cuePassed.
You could also use the currentTime property to sync stuff
    without using
    cue points.

  • Record voiceover problem - blank clips laid down

Hello all, bit of a curious problem. I am using the FCP X record voiceover facility but after making a recording, the track laid down is mute / blank. It has no waveform at all, as if nothing has been laid down. This has happened with every attempt ,so I have reinstalled FCP X and tried again. Same each time since. The recording process appears to be working normally but nothing is in the track clip that has been laid down.
I have also used the Quicktime Player audio recording facility to test my computer. It all worked fine and I imported the quicktime audio to the storyline on FCP and played it back no problem. So what could be causing the issue here ?
I have also tried another USB mic system that was working fine on another computer with FCP. That didn't work on my laptop either, same problem, goes through the motions, appears to make a recording and then you discover nothing is in the clip. I also tested my Shure kit on the other computer , it all worked fine, as you would expect.
I am using FCP X and a Coles Lip mic , a Shure X2U USB pre amp and a Shure mic to line amp to drive the mic before the Shure unit as on it's own it is quite hissy.
Appears that the Shure X2U is driverless post 10.4.
Any help would be gratefully received ,
    Cheers

Thanks, have been through this. None of the mics attached to FCP end up recording a vo. I have changed the system settings each time to show my Shure preamp, my Blue Snow Ball USB mic and have even tried to use my internal mic on the laptop to record a VO.All of them have been correctly selected for VO, they appear to make a recording but when you play back the new clip , there is nothing contained in it . There is no waveform and no audio , just a blank empty green space ! I can make a quicktime recording on the same laptop using any of my mics etc and import it to the timeline , no issue. I have also used my all my mics on another FCP set up and they have worked first time. The issue is with my FCP on my laptop. I have even reinstalled FCP and still the same.

  • Are there longer music clips to use in iMovie you can find online? How to loop current audio?

I have a video that almost 50 seconds long and I can't figure out how to make the clip I am currently using to loop without coming to a full stop in the middle of the video and then start over again about about 5 or 6 sec of silence. Are there websites I can find music clips to use in iMovie that are longer than the ones that come with the application on my iMac? Or how can I make the audio that I am already using loop continously until the end of the video?
    Thanks!
