Long, long saga since moving from AOL to BT

We were with AOL for several years with a very reliable connection with speeds around 900 Kbps. We have long lines here and so don't expect superfast speeds. Since moving to BTBroadband at the end of June we have had problem after problem with our connection. At first it was slow speeds, about half the speed we were getting with AOL. After many calls to BT call centre and much rebooting/resetting of the router an engineer came out to us. He said that he couldn't help us as he was telephone not broadband and we needed a broadband engineer. Eventually a broadband engineer arrived, replaced our master socket and changed some of the wiring outside the house. Our connection speed improved dramatically for a day or two and then went back to slowing to a standstill at intermittent intervals, several times a day.
A "new" HH3 Type A (looked as if it was a reconditioned one) was sent to us . It failed after a few days and was replaced by another HH3 Type A, which failed to connect at all. I contacted the customer care team in Newcastle and explained all that had happened. I was told that the Type A hub has compatibility issues with our new master socket and that an engineer would deliver and install the Type B hub for us. The engineer arrived with 2 Type A hubs, said he had not heard of a type B hub but he replaced the mastersocket with a different type, .
We seem not able to stay connected for more than a couple of days at a time and it is very frustrating. I have spent many, many hours on the phone to BT over the past few months and we seem to be no further forward.
The hub that is currently connected is the original HH3 Type A that was sent to us back in June. The promised Type B has never arrived but I am told that another one had been ordered and should be with me in the next day or two.
Any help or advice you can give would be much appreciated.

  • Help, Not able to publish since moving from Florida to Vietnam.

I receive a message at the end of a very long wait during the publishing phase that there was a publishing error and I should try later. This has only happened since moving from USA to Vietnam. Any ideas? Thank you.

Unfortunately, this "Publish Error" problem is all too common whenever there is a change in your iWeb publishing environment. This can be a result of Apple updating iWeb or MobileMe (as happened a couple of months ago with MobileMe), it can occur when you change ISPs, or it can happen when you upgrade your Mac OS or get a new computer. I'm going through it right now because I migrated (i.e., copied my Domain file) over to my new Mac mini for my iWeb work, and have since been unable to publish to my MobileMe account.
Apple Support provides no guidance as to why this happens or what to do about it. It's clearly a software/communications problem that's related to uploading files from your client (iWeb) to the server (MobileMe). The only advice they've given me when I call them is to completely rebuild the Website, which in my case would mean redoing the several hundred Web pages that are part of my site. Apple's inability to take the issue seriously is a sure sign that they don't consider iWeb/MobileMe a serious Web publishing medium, that it is only intended for small sites, hobby stuff, photo galleries and the like.
The only real solution is to create a new Website in iWeb, and to gradually move your Web pages to the new site and to Publish to MobileMe a few pages at a time. If you encounter a publish error again, you can at least isolate the problematic Web page and, if necessary, redo that page to get it to publish correctly. This solution has always worked for me, though it is very tedious and time-consuming.
It's very frustrating that Apple is unable or unwilling to improve the publishing capability of iWeb/MobileMe, and to make it more robust. It's otherwise a powerful publishing environment.

  • HT204150 since moving from mobileme to icloud my calendar and contacts do not sync from my iphone: what should I do

my calendars and contacts do not sync since moving from mobile me to icloud. what should i do

    michelefromvancouver wrote:
After that if I go to my calendar on my macair to try and sync to my Imac, by clicking the sync button on the top bar (like I used to with mobile me) I get a drop down menu that says
1.Time Machine not configured (in shading)
    2. Browse other backup discs (in bold)
3.Open Time Machine preferences (in bold)
That's where you're going wrong. Firstly the syncing method that MobileMe used, which places the icon in the menu bar, is quite different from the iCloud method and is irrelevant. Secondly, you're confusing the Time Machine icon with it.
On this Mac you need to set up in System Preferences>iCloud in the same way, then the syncing is automatic. In iCal on both machines you should see in the Calendar list your calendars listed unrer 'iCloud', and your calendars should be visible at http://icloud.com (and choose Calendar in the welcome screen).
If they aren't visible online, go to http://me.com/calendar - you should not be able to see them there. If you can, you haven't migrated.

  • Since moving from MobileMe to iCloud I can't seem to publish the update done on iWeb.

Does anyone know how I could figure out a way to publish my updates on iweb since moving from mobileme (the host) to icloud?
    Thank you,

    Do this:
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Since moving from MobileMe to iCloud my ical

    Hi.
Since moving from Mobile-me to iCloud nothing is syncing: iCal, contacts etc. Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have the exact same problem but only with iCal. Contacts and reminders seem to be there.  When I try troubleshooting and go to my MacBook Apple>Preferences>iCloud, I keep getting the same screen advertising iCloud and telling me to use it I should "Move to iCloud."  Each time I do that, in just goes into an endless loop of Find my Phone.  WTH?  Help!

  • MOVED FROM AOL ON MY PC TO AOL ON MY MAC. I CAN'T FIND MY FAVORITE PLACES

For some reason when I open up my favorite places , none of my favorite place are there, they are all gone. I have them all when I sign on to aol on a pc but when I sign on to aol on my mac my favorite places is not there. Can anyone help?

Use Safari instead. You can import all your favorite places using this wonderful tool from AOL:
    http://download.newaol.com/mac/AOLServiceAssistant.dmg
I used this to help my Dad move from AOL on a PC to a Mac.
I hope this helps...it was a real life saver and an EXCELLENT program.
Now, PLEASE if anyone knows how, my Dad is REALLY struggling with this:
He used to compose an e-mail on Windows AOL and he could "insert a favorite place" right into his e-mail. He used this feature constantly.
Now that I have moved him over to a Mac, he doesn't have that option. Really, when you "insert a favorite place", AOL is just putting a link in the HTML e-mail.
Currently, he has to drag his "favorites" (bookmarks) from Safari into Mac Mail, and this is just killing him.
I have tried to use Leopard's new stationary to accomplish this, but have not yet succeeded.
Does anyone have any idea for him?

  • Mail applic on iPad shuts down unexpectedly since moving from 4.2 to 4.3, all the time

    Hello,
ever since upgrading from 4.2 to 4.3 and higher I am experiencing unexpected application closure in the mail program. I have several mail accounts synced with my iPad (1 yahoo, 1 gmail and 2 exchange). I never had this experience under 4.2!

Here's a few ideas to get you (and the other posters as well) back to "normal" operations. The following three steps seem to clear up all but the more bizarre aspects of wireless networking and the touch:
    1. Reboot your router (unplug it from AC power). This will eliminate any router accumulated errors.
    2. Reset the touch network settings - Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings
    3. When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
Here's a few other things that can cause problems:
    1. WEP encryption - use WPA2-TKIP or use the master WEP hex key in place of your network password
    2. Make sure your router firmware is up to date. No firmware update available and your router is >3 years old? - time to consider buying a new one.
    3. Automatic channel changing by the router - pick one and stay with it.
    4. Router QOS service - newer routers with media streaming features may cause some problems
    5. Not sure if AES encryption (as in WPA2-AES) works correctly. Try the TKIP version which does work.
    6. Hidden Network SSIDs - useless as a security measure and it can force you to log onto your network each time.

  • Unable to manage Distribution list membership since moving from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010

    Hi,
We have recently started migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.  One of our customers used to be able to manage a security group through the outlook address book.  This is a mail enabled security group where the customer is on
the "Managed by" entry and the "Manager can update membership list" is ticked.
Now that the users mailbox has been migrated to Exchange 2010, if they try and modify the membership using outlook by finding the group in the address book they get the error "changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved. you do not have
sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object".
I have now added a test account to the managed by entry on the security group to test the problem.
    I have followed the article
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/11/18/3408844.aspx that explains how to use the EMS to give users the right to amend groups that users own.  I did not run the script but entered the following commands:
    New-ManagementRole -name “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test” -parent MyDistributionGroups
    Remove-ManagementRoleEntry “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test\New-DistributionGroup” -confirm:$false
    Remove-ManagementRoleEntry “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test\Remove-DistributionGroup” -confirm:$false
New-ManagementRoleAssignment -name “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test-Default Role Assignment Pol” -role “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test” -policy “Default Role Assignment Policy”
All appears to have worked ok and I have seen no errors while doing this
If I use OWA and then use the ECP, I can now see the "Public groups I own" but no groups are listed.
I have created some new distribution groups in Exchange 2010 (One dist list and one security group) to test and added the test account as an owner of both and a member of both.  I still cannot amend the membership using outlook address book and the
ECP still shows no groups under "Public Groups I own"
I have seen a number of articles on how to do this and it looks like I am doing everything right and it has worked for plenty of other people.  I just don't know what's going wrong.
I would be very grateful if anyone can help.
    Matt

    Hi Rajith,
I deleted the outlook profile and recreated it but this did not work.
I have now created a brand new mailbox on Exchange 2010 added this to the "managed by" section of the Exchange 2010 dist lists and I still get the error.  I also do not see the groups listed when logging in as that user to OWA ECP and clicking on the
    Groups link.
I had a look at the link you sent me and I could see that from the Exchange server when I opened the User roles to get to the ECP, clicked on Roles and Auditing and then User Roles the only policy applied is "Default role assignment".  When I select
the details for this, under Distribution groups, "My Distribution Groups" is not ticked but my new one that I created "My DistributionGroupsManagement_Test" is.  So this looks ok.
    Any other ideas?
    Matt

  • My music will not play since moving from one computer to new computer

Help, I am really new to this and do not know what I am doing. I have a new computer and followed the instructions to move my itunes from the old computer to the new one, however a bunch of the music when I try to play it has an error that reads "the song "title of song" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
Help. what caused this and how do I get to make these songs play? Thanks for any input. zemsmom

+and followed the instructions to move my itunes from the old computer to the new one+
Which set of instructions? There are lots of them.
The ! original file can't be found means the path (folder) that itunes expects to find the files in, is not there.

  • Since moving from POP to Imap, my send mail are shown twice

    HI,
I have an hotmail account which I changed from Pop to Imap. Receiving, deleting and archiving mail work fine. But the send box in TB shows my mails twice. However mails which I send from outlook on line are shown only once.
Is it so that by having twice my send mails is taking twice the size? How can I make it back to normal?
Note that the addressees receive my mails normally , e.g. once . I have checked the account settings but did not find anything strange.
    In going server : imap-mail.outlook.com
    Out going server : smtp-mail.outlook.com
Thanks in advance for your support.

Hotmail/live/outlook.com accounts automatically copy a sent message to the Sent folder, so to avoid duplicates, uncheck "Place a copy in" under Tools/Account Settings/<i>hotmailaccount</i>/Copies & Folders.

  • IWeb Blank White Pages Since Moving from MobileMe

Hello, I've recently got some hosting (and a new domain: absurdityandeverything.com for my iWeb site (from at space) following the move from MobileMe. I've finally managed to upload the site via ftp but when I visit the site it's just a blank page. Any ideas? Thanks, James

Try publishing to a folder on the desktop and use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck, Transmit or YummyLite.  All three give you a Finder like window of your account folder on the server so you can see what's there.  They also let you manual upload the site folder or specific subfolders when you determine what is missing.
My process is to publish to a folder on the hard drive and use  Web Site Maestro to optimize the size (for faster downloading in browsers) and upload the files to the server.  After the first upload WSM has a feature to upload only new or modified files during the next publication and upload.

  • UTF issue when moving from cf5 to cfmx7

It's been long overdue so am moving from CF5 to cfmx7 on my hosting account.
The issue is that my hosting account has disabled cfcontent.
I am getting gibberish outputting utf data from my database. It works fine on cf5 but on cfmx7 I read someplace that you have to use cfcontent to output utf-8 correctly.
Is there any work around without having to use cfcontent?
I tried using cfprocessingdirective and cfheader tags to show utf but it didn't work. Any pointers or suggestions appreciated.
    Best Regards
    Sanman

ok, since it's "N" you should be good to go with transferring the data (it's
actually pretty simple). in cf5, write a page that does a simple query against
the table(s) containing your data, i guess just select TOP 100 or so rows with
the PK & the nText columns. simply output that query using a delimiter that you
can parse easily (commas between columns & quotes for the nText would be my
default choices). have a look at the output to make sure it's readable. if all's
well, on the cf7 (or whatever) box do a cfhttp call to that cf5 page & dump out
the cfhttp.fileContent or result if you use that. if it's still readable, then
you can do the real xfer by:
    - backing up the original table
    - double checking that the backup is ok
    - triple checking that the backup is ok
    - adding another table w/just PK & nText columns
    - filling that with the properly encoded data
    - then do a join UPDATE against the old table

Thank you Meta, but I could not get the calendar and contact sync with Gmail to work. Apple support already suggested to use Google or a Windows PC. Maybe I should actually reset and try my old Windows PC. Seriously, ... can this be the solution after a Mac OS update for pure Apple users?
