Long Raw to file

Hi, i have a oracle database 10.2 and in a table i have a long raw column,
In that column i am storing images and pdf's but i want to get the files from the database to my hard disk
i know that before 10r2 does exist a pl/sql procedure but a 32k limit, and my files are higher than 32k, does anyone know a way to do that?
thnx in advance

Easy. Your problem is that you are using LONG RAWS and not BLOBS and there is no way of accesing piecewise LONG RAWs inside PL/SQL so you are stuck with trying to convert to a PL/SQL LONG RAW which has a maximum length of 32k.
So short term solution: use the to_lob function to convert the LONG RAW into a BLOB in a temp table, then use dbms_lob to loop through, using the utl_file raw API to pump it to a file.
Long term: migrate LONG RAWS to BLOBs.

    Hi,
    I get "ORA-22835: Buffer too small for CLOB to CHAR or BLOB to RAW conversion (real : 125695, maximum : 2000)" when i trying to save a 120k pdf file in an Oracle Long Raw column using dotnet 4.0 and Entity FrameWork.

    is it possible to increase the size of the buffer ? how may i do it ?
    Thx in advance.
    Regards.

    Using a custom UPDATE or INSERT stored procedure for LONG RAW column with
    exceed-limit data may still get the following error.
    "ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested".
    One option is to use BLOB instead of LONG RAW in your table and regenerate your
    data model from the table. Then using the default UPDATE or INSERT statement
    (created by EF) should work.
    The following will modify your LONG RAW column to BLOB column.
    Disclaimers:
    1. It's irreversible--you cannot modify BLOB back to LONG RAW.
    2. I have not tried that when there are huge data in LONG RAW column.
    So be careful.
    alter table <your_table_name> modify <your_long_raw_type_column> blob;

  • How to insert data from file into long raw field using utl_file?

    I try to insert binary data from a file (under AIX 4.3.3) into a LONG
    RAW field (Oracle 8.1.6).
    First, I retrieve the data from the file like this:
    DECLARE
    FileHandle = UTL_FILE.FILE_TYPE;
    myVariable LONG RAW;
    FileHandle := UTL_FILE.FOPEN ;('prj/oracle/admin/MARTIJN/udump',
    'MyFile.ATT', 'R');
    UTL_FILE.GET_LINE (FileHandle, myVariable);
    UTL_FILE.FCLOSE(FileHandle);
    INSERT INTO myTable(DUMMYFIELD) VALUES(myVariable);
    Where DUMMYFIELD of table myTable is of type LONG RAW.
    The GET_LINE statement crashes on Oracle Error ORA-6502: Numeric of
    Value error: hex to raw conversion error.
    What do I do wrong?
    Do I use the right method to retrieve information from a file and put
    it into a long raw field, should I try it another way?
    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Martijn Rutte

    Zarina,
    To clarify your problem, you have a script node contaning your Matlab code. Are you then using the standard LV functions to load in your data from a file and pass it into the script node?

  • Finder can no longer preview RAW (.arw) files

    Hi everyone,
    Since the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.7, Finder will no longer preview RAW (.arw) files. This issue also affects Preview & iPhoto.
    I've tried re-installing the update but the installer errors and then quits.
    I've noticed that the /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle/ folder is missing since the update.
    Any recommendations on how to resolve this small problem?
    Justin

    Did Apple re-release the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.7? It appeared again within Software Update. After installing it, Raw files are recognised correctly now.

  • HOW TO RETRIEVE A LONG RAW COLUMN FROM A TABLE AND WRITE TO OS FILE

    Good evening.
    Please how can I read a long raw datatype from a table and insert into an operating system file using PL/SQL.
    Thank you.

    What does this have to do with LONG RAW? It is about UTL_FILE and not especially great code.
    The question is how to retrieve and write LONG RAW and that is quite a different matter.
    First you must convert it to BLOB.
    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:13213885403654
    Then you can write it out to the file system

  • Load image file into a LONG RAW column via SQL*Loader

    Does anyone know how to load a image file into a LONG RAW column via SQL*Loader?
    Thanks
    -Hsing-Hua-

    Are you trying to import the image on the client into Oracle lite, or from the server end into the main oracle database for download to the client?
    On our system images are loaded into the the oracle lite database (10g R1 at the moment) on the client (DELL X50 PDA's) into a BLOB (Not LONG RAW) column using Java (relatively standard functionality in Java) as this is what our application software is written in.
    From the server end, we do not at the moment load images as such, but we do load the application software into the database for deployment of new versions to the clients (the DMC/DMS updates we have found very unreliable), and the technique should be the same for images. Again the file is imported into a BLOB column.
    NOTE a column defined as BLOB on the main Oracle database appears as a LONG VARBINARY on the client Oracle lite database, but the synchronisation process handles the conversion with no problem.
    To import into a BLOB column on the server try the following
    1) you will need to create a DIRECTORY (CREATE DIRECTORY command) within the database, pointing at a directory on the database server (or accessible from it). This is needed for the file location.
    CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY PDA_FILE_UPLOAD AS '/pdaapps/jar/'
    NOTE create directory needs to be run as SYSTEM
    2) define your table to hold the image and other data. Our tables is
    SQL> desc pda_applications
    Name Null? Type
    ID NOT NULL NUMBER(12)
    PDAAT_CODE NOT NULL VARCHAR2(10)
    VERSION NOT NULL NUMBER(5,2)
    PART_NO NOT NULL NUMBER(3)
    FILE_OBJECT BLOB
    DEPLOY_APPLICATION_YN NOT NULL VARCHAR2(1)
    3) copy the image (or in our case a .jar file) to the database server directory specified in step 1
    4) the actual import is done using a DBMB_LOB procedure
    PROCEDURE pr_load_file
    Module Name     :     pr_load_file
    Description     :     Main call. Create a new pda_applications record, and import the specified file into it

  • Extracting Tiff files stored into Oracle 8.1.7 as Long Raw

    I have around 1 million tiff images stored into Oracle 8.1.7. The field type is Long Raw. The frontend used to store images into the database is SQL Windows 5 from Gupta Corporation, now called Centura. I guess the images are stored in binary format in the database. I need to extract these images at the OS level. Each Rec_no contains one tiff file in database. The table structure is as follows:
    Rec_no Number(8)
    image Long Raw
    My goal is to convert these tiff files to JPG files so that my web application written in ASP.Net can use them and show in IE. The files are required to be converted to jpg as IE does not have native support for showing the tiff files(I hope I am not wrong in this assumption). Can i convert these tiffs to jpg directly inside the oracle database??? or i need to extract them first, save at OS level, convert them and then write back to the database?? Pls give code examples if possible. I plan to migrate the database also from 8i to 10g shortly and this is one of the migration taks. Thanks in advance...

  • Help: Extract OLE object from 8i (long raw) to a server file folder

    Posting here because most of the technical discussion I have found are in this group (Forms).
    I have an 8i db with workpapers(.doc,.xls,etc) stored in a Long Raw column wrapped in OLE that were collected using forms. The DB is maintained on a Sun Solaris platform.
    I need to extract the documents and write each one to a server folder as a .doc or ,xls without any OLE details.
    Is this possible? How?

    As far as I know you have to use OLE Item to work with the information. Unfortunately there is not any standart way to extract a source document from OLE. Some applications such as Word, Excel support OLE Automation, so you could use OLE2 package to save the document as a file, that is the easest way. But others don't, so you may have to use an undocumented way to extract a document.
    Take a look at the following thread:
    Subj: 6i to 9i Ole to LOB translations, How do you know the App. server?
    Re: 6i to 9i Ole to LOB translations, How do you know the App. server?
    P.S. If you can't extract some types of your documents, please let me khow.
    P.P.S. To extract a document through OLE2 package you could use something like the following. /I'm not sure the code is correct/:
    DECLARE
    handle ole2.obj_type;
    BEGIN
    ACTIVATE_SERVER('OLE1');
    handle := forms_ole.get_interface_pointer('OLE1');
    BEGIN
    -- Save a document to disk
    Args :=OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(Args, 'C:\test.doc'); -- file name
    OLE2.INVOKE(handle, 'SaveAs', Args);
    OLE2.DESTROY_ARGLIST(Args);
    EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN
    Message('Error');
    END;
    -- OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(handle);
    END;

  • URGENT - Extract Image Files From Long Raw Column

    Hi.
    I have to extract image files (tif and wmf format) from "long raw" column and put them in a directory, using a PL/SQL procedure.
    Can anyone help me.
    Thanks

    Well that is interesting, that ORA returns no records on Metalink. Anyway, that was for my own curiosity.
    As you are on 10g, this is how I would write a long raw to a file if I had no choice:
    1) create a gtt with a column of type blob
    2) insert into the gtt the long raw column using the to_lob conversion function
    3) you now have a lob!
    4) open a binary file for writing using utl_file (binary mode was introduced in 10g)
    4) use dbms_lob to read through the blob and write it in chunks to the file
    You will have to do this row by row. It will be painfully excrutiatingly slow.
    This is basically your only choice unless you have a OCI programmer to hand. In which case I would be getting them to write the C code to read the long raw column and write it to a file. This could then be compiled into a library and called as an external procedure from PL/SQL.

  • How do you edit the raw.plist file in 10.5.7? Old tricks no longer working.

    I have a Canon PowerShot S50 that I has the samw RAW profile as the Canon PowerShot S60.
    I've successfully added it to the raw.plist file and updated the CodeResources file with a new key via terminal, and now aperture displays the thumbnail, and very briefly the larger 'image' in my second monitor, but then within a second it reverts to 'unsupported file type'.
    Has anyone found a solution to this?
    Someone seems to have found a fix on this forum for a different camera, but I'm still struggling (and I've tried renaming the camera name with and without space/underscores, etc)
    (Why Apple hasn't added some of these cameras by now is beyond me - that such simple additions haven't been made is totally inexplicable.)
    Thanks for any help!

  • After upgrading to mountain lion aperture 3.3 no longer recognizes DNG files.  Is this going to get fixed?

    After upgrading to aperture 3.3 on mountain lion aperture no longer recognizes DNG files.
    I have many DNG files already in my library.  Aperture shows the thumbnail and will briefly flash what I think is the preview of the file but quickly changes to a gray triangle saying "unsupported image format".  After which the thumbnail is replaced with an all black thumbnail.
    Needless to say this is extremely disconcerting.  I am concerned that aperture is not only refusing to display the existing DNG files but is also simultaneously corrupting the library and destroying my existing images.
    fwiw, these DNG files were generated with a leica.
    I have not attempted to import DNG images into my aperture library but I assume that would not go well.

    Susan,
    if it is the native raw format, that no longer is recognized, then try, if registering the CoreTypes.bundle with the OS again will help. This will tell MacOS which raw format types (and other media types) are supported.
    Open a Terminal window and paste following line into the window, hit return. This is one very long line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -R /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library
    Regards
    Léonie
    P.S: Some browsers cause a blank to be inserted between /Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions
    But it is "LaunchServices.framework", without blank. All in one line - the only blanks are needed between "lsregister" and "-R" and after "-R" .

    I got a table having LONG RAW column and I need to transfer the same into another table having LONG RAW column.
    When I tried using INSERT INTO SELECT * command (or) CREATE TABLE as select * , it is throwing ORA-00997: illegal use of LONG datatype.
    I have gone through some docs and found we should not use LONG RAW using these operations.
    So I did some basic PLSQL block given below and I was able to insert most of the records. But records where the LONG RAW file is like 7O kb, the inserting is faliling.
    I tried to convert LONG RAW to BLOB and again for the record where the LONG RAW is big in size I am getting (ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error) error.
    Appreciate if anyone can help me out here.
    DECLARE
    Y LONG RAW;
    BEGIN
    FOR REC IN (SELECT * FROM TRU_INT.TERRITORY WHERE TERRITORYSEQ=488480 ORDER BY TERRITORYSEQ ) LOOP
    INSERT INTO TRU_CMP.TERRITORY
    BUSINESSUNITSEQ, COMPELEMENTLIFETIMEID, COMPONENTIMAGE, DESCRIPTION, ENDPERIOD, GENERATION, NAME, STARTPERIOD, TERRITORYSEQ
    VALUES
    REC.BUSINESSUNITSEQ, REC.COMPELEMENTLIFETIMEID, REC.COMPONENTIMAGE, REC.DESCRIPTION, REC.ENDPERIOD, REC.GENERATION, REC.NAME,
    REC.STARTPERIOD, REC.TERRITORYSEQ
    END LOOP;
    END;
