Longlabel of Folder in SQL Developer Filenavigator gives only filename

Hello,
I am working on an extension for SQL Developer (3.1) with JDeveloper 11g rel 1.
I have defined actions in the extension.xml, which I want to use in the Filenavigator. When selecting a directory node and selecting the action from the pop-up menu, the program reaches the doit() method of the extended Command class. The selected element is an instance of oracle.dbtools.raptor.filenav.DirectoryFolder, implementing the Folder interface.
I want to have the complete path of this node, which is normally in the getLongLabel() method. However this method returns only the directoryname.
Is there another way to retrieve the path?
Thanks in advance,
Joop

Hello,
the problem is solved.
The Element interface also includes the Locatable interface. The Locatable has method getURL() which has the required information.

  • Query Regarding Oracle SQL Developer

    Hi Guru's,
There is a confusion regarding Installing SQL Developer, whether i need to install Oracle Software on my machine so that i use SQL Developer from my machine or i use SQL Developer without installing Oracle Software as i check the documentation for installing SQL Developer it gives info for installing SQL Developer JDK need to be installed and the correct path need to be initialized. May be this is stupid question but i want to clear my doubt.
Any suggestion for the same. Thanks in advance.

  • Executing a procedure - Works on Isql Plus but not SQL Developer??

    Hi folks.
I am playing around with some design and structure stuff, mostly just passing values around procedures. I have one procedure (procedure1) which takes a sysdate and then passes it to another procedure (procedure2) which takes the parameter and does a dbms_output.put_line.
Both objects are valid, and compile correctly. I use
    exec procedure1;
in iSql Plus and it works perfectly. It prints the dates out and all.
However if I use the exact same command in SQL Developer it gives me error "ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement"
I don't understand why this happens?? The code executes perfectly in one but not the other...

Remember that SQL*Plus commands don't work in the worksheet. So, this would fail
exec my_procIn the worksheet you have to declare an anonymous block....
    begin
        my_proc;
    end;
/If you right-click on the procedure in the Navigator and select Run then SQL*Dev will throw up a harness for you. Very handy if you want to get DBMS_OUTPUT, set variables, etc.
    Cheers, APC

  • SQL Developer install problems for Windows 7 Home edition

    Hi there,
I understand Windows 7 64-bit is not supported for oracle 11gR2 but I installed it anyway.
    This is not my problem.
I am trying to install SQL Developer and am getting this error when I click on the set up:
Unable to launch the Java Virtual machine, located at path:
    C:\Program Files(x86)Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin\msvcr71.dll
When I check the version of my java it is correctly displaying 1.6.0_21 for my 64 bit.
I read that you need the 32 bit one installed as well and I do. In my Program Files there is a java and a \jdk1.6.0_21 folder. In the bin directory it does not have this .dll:
    msvcr71.dll
Is that the problem, because i have heard of other people getting sql developer working on their Windows 7 home laptops but they are old posts and I'm not getting any reply.
I also changed the Environmental variable for the path, such as:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21 /bin
and none of the 3 above worked for me either.
    Any suggestions are appreciated!

I unzipped the sql developer download to C:\Windows and it unzipped fine. I went into my folder of sql developer, double clicked the sql developer.exe and it asked for the path for java. I clicked Browse and the default was C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin so I chose the java from this folder. It accepted the argument, tried to start sql developer, and came up with the same error, so something is still not right that I am not understanding??

  • SQL developer freeze behaviour

I thought SQL Developer can run multiple SQLs at the same time, or at least enable one to browse a database whilst a piece of SQL is running.
However, I always have problems doing more than one thing at a time.
For example, I had a piece of PL/SQL running today and then tried to start a new connection.
All I got was an hourglass.
I am using Version 1.5.3 Build MAIN-5783 on Windows XP SP2.
Is it SQL Developer or Java that is causing problems like this ?
I am not using the latest version of Java, as that is incompatible with some other products I use.
I am however using Java Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_12-b04).
    Thanks.

SQL Developer by default only opens a single DB connection for all of the worksheets for a SQL Developer connection and a single DB connection can only do one thing at once. However, as Sue said, you can open a new worksheet and DB connection for an already connected SQL Developer connection with the Ctrl+Shift+N keystroke (called an unshared worksheet) - this will give you a second DB connection for running something else at the same time.
I don't use this much, but I have sometimes had SQL Developer it couldn't open the unshared worksheet as the connection was busy, so it can help if you know something is going to take a long time before you run it, to create the unshared worksheet first and run the long running statement/script in it.

  • SQL Developer startup is very slow

I'm finding that the first time I start SQL Developer it takes between 3 mins 30 and 4 mins to start up. This seems far too long. It's installed on a Windows 7 PC in it's own folder in Program Files. What's causing it to be so slow? - virus scanning, JVM startup? Also why are there 3 executables - sqldeveloper.exe in teh root and sqldeveloper and sqldeveoperW in teh bin folder?
    SQL Developer Version: 3.0.04
    o/s: Windows 7

Your "Automatically Check for Updates" option may be turned on. You can look at this setting by going to Tools->Preferences->Extensions. When I unchecked the "Automatically Check for Updates" checkbox my startup times drastically decreased. Hope that helps.

Did you perhaps do a custom install? The DB software includes a version of sql developer and, by default, installs it in the sqldeveloper folder of the DB_HOME. Does that folder have sql developer in it?
I suggest that you NOT use the version of sql developer that ships with the database. That version will NOT be the current version.
Download the current version of SQL Developer, unzip it into a new folder and create a desktop icon for it.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
The current version includes many, many bug fixes from that earlier DB version and you will have far fewer probems with it.

  • SQL Developer Memory Footprint

We're looking at replacing around 200 TOAD licenses with SQL Developer. The only technical concern is the memory footprint, as in many cases it would be run from a terminal server with dozens of people logging on. A VM Size of 150MB seems to be not unusual for SQL Developer, and that all adds up of course.
Are there any recommendations for reducing the memory footprint, or at least not letting it get much higher than 150? Features that can be turned off by default, versions of JDK, etc?

    Hi,
The memory consume is quite worrying.
However change the code into VB / Delphi will lose its availability as Java's write once run anywhere. :-)
You won't be able to use this tool on Solaris, Linux, and Mac without changing the code and compiler. Thus would be less acceptable.
I wonder if limiting SQL Dev's initial class load would give impact on memory consume.
And why it seems that Java's garbage collector didn't do any collecting since the memory gets higher and higher time by time.
Or maybe the code doesn't allow the object's become collectable?
I ever get memory reach up to 500MB after doing a canceled Export Wizard for USER.
But..... memory would never come down.

  • SELECT returning different rows when issued from SQL Developer or Java apps

Hi there. I'm facing a problem here: I'm trying to issue a SELECT from Java, which should return me 2 rows; but I'm getting just one. When I issue the SELECT directly through SQL Developer it gives me the expected result. I've pastebin the code at http://paste.uni.cc/11821, where I've described in details the problem.
What could it be? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Marco,
I would code it a bit differently, but I don't think that would solve your problem.
I suggest setting up the JDBC logging. I'm not promising it will help, but I guess it
can't hurt. Here is a white paper about it:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/pdf/logging%20white%20paper.pdf
You can also access that link from this Web page:

    Good Luck,

  • Connection login/password in SQL Developer

I had install the Database App Development VM Appliance but i can not create a connection in SQL Developer.
    I tried the following user/password :
    sys/oracle
    sys/sys
    hr/oracle
    oracle/oracle
With hr/oracle i could connect in Oracle Enterprise Manager (not as SYSDBA), but could not create a connection in SQL Developer.
The only instructions I found about it was in the terminal message:
"All passwords are oracle or noted if otherwise."
How can I connect to database as SYSDBA?
    Thanks

    i used...
    sys/oracle
    connection type: basic
    role: sysdba
    hostname: localhost.localdomain
    port: 1521
    sid: orcl
wouldn't it have made sense if the VM had these settings saved in it when it was loaded?

  • SQL Developer video problems on Parallels (Win XP)

I am running ORACLE 11G, APEX and SQL Developer on my MacBook pro. Initially I installed 1.5.4 SQL Developer and I stared having problems when editing SQL scripts.
Edit window, blacks out the lines which are not being viewed. Very annoying when working on complex scripts.
Although I've reported this problem to Parallels support, given that SQL Developer is the only application causing the problem is making me think it is more likely an issue with SQL Developer.
Since then I went back to 1.5.1 version and having same problem.
Any body else having this problem?
    I might try 1.5.4 with patch #2 . . .
Details related to SQL Developer installed:

I will post this info to help people who may have similar problem.
The work around I found is to run Parallels in full-screen mode.
Parallels support haven't provided a fix for this yet.

  • Missing SQL Developer functions when connecting to MS SQL Server 2005

    Hi all,
I've connected SQL Developer to a ms sql server db. Now I can't use the functions from SQL Developer like
    - Drag&Drop tables to the sql-sheet,
    - autocompletition of attributes (Strg+Space).
Is this function not supported or do I have to change some preferences?
    THX Steve

Unfortunately most of the advanced functions of SQL Developer are supported only for oracle databases, so on ms sql, or almost anything else you can do little more than browse data.

  • Bug report: sql developer/application express application import

I noticed some bugs on deploying an application using sql developer 1.5.1-5440.
Using a single file deployment generated by apex including install/upgrade/remove scripts: Here's what happens:
    # I tried installing version 1.1 of my application already existing. Connected to the parsing schema of the version 1.0 I can clearly see my app "dashboard(101)"
    # using sql dev I tried an application import. Using the following import options buildstatus =runonly, autoassign app_id and checked run install scripts
    # The install runs, but instead of using the upgrade script it simply runs the install script causing a lot of errors of course since the objects already exist in the schema
    # After this installation the application is visible in the workspace using a browser dashboard(102), however it remains invisible in sql developer where i can still only see dashboard(101)
After this failure I decided to go ahead and try once more doing the same thing but now just not check run install scripts.
To my amazement it still runs the install scripts???
Now I have 3 application showing in the browser and still only 1 in sql developer
Final problem with sql developer is that I choose to drop dashboard(101) it only deinstalls the application. It does not run the deinstall script for supporting objects included in dashboard(101).
All this makes an easy deployment a real hassle, since the browser interface can't handle a run only apllication with supporting object as all (it simply doesn't run the install script) I need to use sql developer, which is then fine for the first install, but then doen't upgrade properly. Finaly deinstalling a run only application again is impossible from a workspace and does work from sql developer, but then you still have to do the deinstall of the db objects manually.
I know as an apex admin I can work arround al this by switching the build status etc etc, but then again I can do anything if I'm apex admin and db sys.Point in having a single file deployment is allowing a novice user to easily install.

    Hi Scott
    Thanks for the reply
    sspadafo wrote:
Run Only applications don't show up in the application list because they should not be editable. But perhaps it could display an icon indicating that.In my opinion they should and they do. The single app that is appearing in the list in sql developer is run only. Having it here allows me to select drop amongst other functionality the browser interface currently still lacks. Even when I drop all apps and than reinstall them again it seems like I can only see 1 version of an app with the same name.
    sspadafo wrote:
The problem you described where you can't use the Application Install wizard to install supporting objects if the application is set to Run Only should be fixed in the upcoming 3.1.2 release/patch.I've installed the patch and I'm afraid the patch is no good either. Indeed is has improved. After the app installs it shows the supporting object dialogue. But if you then select yes and press Next it does absolutely nothing and redirects tot the application showing Application not available for edit.
So if you would be so kind to reopen bug 7286162
So while I'm on this section in my opinion the following bugs exist/features are missing
    SQL Developer interface
    # Not all application for parsing schema are shown in connection explorer. It seems like it can multiple show apps with different names only not when you install the same app twice with different app_id's. Then it only show the lowest app_id.
    # Installing runonly app with supporting objects installs supporting object regardless of option selected
    # Installing runonly app with upgrade scripts ignores update scripts and runs install scripts regardless of "install supporting objects" checkbox's state
    # De installing app shows unpredictable behaviour for running deinstall scripts. It seemingly prompts random. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. When it does show I get behaviour like initially prompting for running deinstall script, failing to run deinstall script, causing neither app or objects to be dropped, on retry not showing prompt anymore and only dropping app.
    Browser interface
    # Installing a runonly app always finishes with a white page showing only Application not available for edit instead of showing a proper installation summary
    # Installing a runonly app still prevents installation of supporting objects
    # De installing a runonly application is not possible. Possible a button for de install could be included on page 4000:733
    # Unable to perform important application level task from workspace like changing status, alias, global notification, proxy \\      (which are all available in the sql developer interface and imho could all be added to page 400:733 of the browser interface)
    Hope this helps,
    Geert
