Losing database connections in remote objects

Hi,
I have an interesting problem. I have a couple of remote objects that bear database connections. They are pooled in another remote object and provided by registry on request to the client. However, when I check the connections after a while, all of them are closed except the last client. I enabled logging and discovered that all clients except the last one connected get disconnected at the same moment when the method clean() of the DGC gets invoked. I can even predict the moment, e.g. when I start the server at XX:XX:31, the connections get closed at YY:YY:31, always after whole minutes. Strange thing is, that even active clients currently querying data get disconnected.

Has anybody met such a problem already? My configuration is Java 1.3.0_02, database is Oracle 8i. Thanx for any hints.

My colleague solved it. If anyone interested, the problem was caused by the class com.borland.dx.sql.dataset.Database which is provided in Borland JBuilder libraries. We used it to create connections to the Oracle db. Do not use this class for RMI applications if you want to avoid problems. It's better to rely on standard JDBC classes.

  • Database connectivity to business objects

    Hi All,
    I am new to for my first project, having good knowledge about BO but my only concern is with the first day target.
    As a new team mate memeber what are my roles and responsibilites to be done.
    How to interact with the Administrator to get my database connectivity and then how to implement the path provided by the admin people to get my database activate and then to connect it to the business objects.
    So again i am requesting you all if you any one among you, who has already gone through this situation  could help and make to understand how to connect the database to business objects.
    And how to present ourslef in a new environment.
    Thanks,
    Anu.

    Anu,
    This is one of those forum threads that could last all year with comments, tips, and criticisms.  If you have a lot of knowledge about BusObjects, then you are nearly half way there.  In my experience, the biggest road block to success is communication and team cohesiveness.  If everyone on the project are not communicating with each other then everything is going to fail.  What do I mean about communication?  It's hard to pin down, but when I see it I'll know it's there (smile).  For starters it's having a good plan that everyone can work from.  An underlying theme in communications is also trust.  The folks who hand out the userids and passwords must be able to trust the folks who are receiving the privileges.  If the administrator must give you read/write access to his or her database and they don't "know" you, then this is an uphill battle.  Many administrators do not understand middleware such as BusObjects, they are more familiar with things like Access, and such -- the more simpler applications.  When you try throwing terms around like business intelligence, single-sign on, multiple queries, data providers, meta data, report viewer, etc, etc their heads start to spin and they want you OUT of their sight.  All of these concepts must be introduced gently and in an appropriate setting.  The admins must get familiar and comfortable with your tools before you can make headway.  So that is what I mean by communication, in this case laterally.  You must also communicate upwards (the C-level folks), and downward, the users.  Like I said, folks could add to this thread infinitum, and I would invite other as such, but here are some things to think about as you move forward.  The best teacher is experience, but who has time for that?

  • AbstractMethodError while connecting with Remote Object

    Hi,
    I've an issue when my client calls the remote method.
    When my client calls the remote method (through interface)
    which returns me a class object i get an AbstractMethodError.
    My Interface method is something similar to this
    public GTTerminalMaster getRefreshedDetails() throws RemoteException;
    My client calls the method as follows
    GTTerminalMaster = (GTTerminalMaster ) getRefreshedDetails();
    When my client Executes, i get the following Error
    java.lang.AbstractMethodError: com.eaglelot.gametransis.GTSendAndReceiveImpl_Stu
    b.updateTerminalDetails(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Lcom/eaglelot/globa
    l/GTTerminalMaster;
    at com.eaglelot.gamehawker.login.RefreshTerminal$1.run(RefreshTerminal.j
    ava:38)
    Thanks for your reply in advance

    Your remote interface, stub, and implementation classes are out of sync.
    Delete all .class files, recompile, and redeploy.

    When you use DB2 SQL flavor, the ADF BC use the oracle.jbo.server.DB2SQLBuilderImpl class as an SQLBuilder. This class determines the JDBC driver class name as follows:
    1) If the JBO configuration parameter jbo.sql92.JdbcDriverClass in not empty, then the JDBC driver class name is taken from there;
    2) If the jbo.sql92JdbcDriverClass parameter is empty, then:
    <ul><li>If the JDBC URL starts with "jdbc:db2://", then com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver
    <li>If the JDBC URL starts with "jdbc:oracle:db2", then com.oracle.ias.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver
    <li>If the JDBC URL starts with "jdbc:datadirect:db2", then com.ddtek.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver
    <li>Otherwise, COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver</ul>
    (Have a look at the source of the method DB2SQLBuilderImpl.getJDBCDriverClassName(String url) for more details).
    It is seen from the log in your first post that the parameter jbo.sql92.JdbcDriverClass is empty. As far as your JDBC URL starts with neither of the prefixes specified above (e.g. your URL starts with "jdbc:as400://"), then you should specify the necessary JDBC driver class in the JBO configuration parameter jbo.sql92.JdbcDriverClass. (You can specify it in the AM configuration parameters or in adf-config.xml).

  • DW Procedures to connect to MS ACCESS database located on remote server

    I am confused about the procedures within Dreamweaver CS3 to connect to a MS ACCESS database on a remoter server.
    I am working through a tutorial book, "Dreamweaver 8 with ASP, Cold Fusion and PHP Training from the Source", but the instructions are unclear concerning the procedures to connect to a MS ACCESS database located on a remote server.
    The book indicates that the server administration has to create the DSN for you and screen shots indicate that you will result in a list of DSNs to choose from when creating the connections .asp file.
    I went through the procedures to create a connections .asp and resulting in a connection without and tables (of course) because I do not initially have any connection information from my remote site.
    I have generated the required two lines of code as follows for my MS ACCESS database connection on my remote server:
    'Database connection info and provider
    strCon="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="&_
    Server.MapPath("database\trans.mdb") & ";" &_
    "User ID=xxx;Password=xxxxx"
    The question that I have is:
    How does this connection coding relate to the "connections/conn_newland.asp" file that was create within the Dreamweaver screens?  How do I merge the ASP coding?  The file (/connections/conn_newland.asp) generated within Dreamweaver is as follows:
    <%
    'FileName="Connection_odbc_conn_dsn.htm"
    'Type="ADO"
    'DesignationType="ADO"
    'HTTP="true"
    'Catelog=" "
    'Schema
    Dim MM_conn_newland_STRING
    MM_conn_newland_STRINT = "dsn=newland;"
    %>
    Any advice would be appreciated.  I know that this is simple but debugging an error from an  ASP coding merge would be a "bear" to debug!

    I have not used MS Access myself (fortunately) but I believe it works much like the old, old way of achieving a multi-user database in FileMaker.
    That is, it is not a true client-server database but more a peer-to-peer database and that each peer opens the same database file which is available to multiple user via file sharing. Therefore as elikness said it should just be a matter of putting the files on your Lion Server and then sharing that folder/volume using SMB sharing.
    However one thing to be aware of, since MS Access is not a true client-server database I would imagine it uses record locking to manage simultaneous direct access to records in the same files. File or Record locking is something that has historically been a bit flakey when using Windows clients with a Mac file server (and probably vice versa).
    While I am not proposing it as a solution to consider seriously, it is worth you knowing that FileMaker Pro is a database system that is available for both Mac and Windows and depending on how you configure things can be considered to stretch from a configuration very similar to MS Access at the low end all the way to a high-end MS SQL Server style setup at the top end. See http://www.filemaker.com for details.
    There is also a a third-party tool available for migrating databases to or from FileMaker Pro and it can convert MS Access databases to FileMaker Pro see http://www.fmpromigrator.com/
    You could use FileMaker Pro just on Windows machines if you wish.

  • Connecting to Remote Database using Debian w/Oracle XE

    Hello.
    I have managed to install Oracle XE on a Debian box.
    I am trying to connect to a remote server located on my network.
    I am using the following connection string:
    # sqlplus <User>/<Password>@'(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=<IP>)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=<SID>)))'
    However, I was given both a SID and a Service_name.
    I tried connecting with both.
    Is it possible to parametrize both? I checked and the remote server is up, and that is the existing port.
    Thanks a lot!

    bcm@bcm-laptop:~$ sqlplus -h
    SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.1.0 Production
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle.  All rights reserved.
    Use SQL*Plus to execute SQL, PL/SQL and SQL*Plus statements.
    Usage 1: sqlplus -H | -V
        -H             Displays the SQL*Plus version and the
                 usage help.
        -V             Displays the SQL*Plus version.
    Usage 2: sqlplus [ [<option>] [{logon | /nolog}] [<start>] ]
      <option> is: [-C <version>] [-L] [-M "<options>"] [-R <level>] [-S]
        -C <version>   Sets the compatibility of affected commands to the
                 version specified by <version>.  The version has
                 the form "x.y[.z]".     For example, -C 10.2.0
        -L             Attempts to log on just once, instead of
                 reprompting on error.
        -M "<options>" Sets automatic HTML markup of output.  The options
                 have the form:
                 HTML [ON|OFF] [HEAD text] [BODY text] [TABLE text]
                 [ENTMAP {ON|OFF}] [SPOOL {ON|OFF}] [PRE[FORMAT] {ON|OFF}]
        -R <level>        Sets restricted mode to disable SQL*Plus commands
                 that interact with the file system.     The level can
                 be 1, 2 or 3.  The most restrictive is -R 3 which
                 disables all user commands interacting with the
                 file system.
        -S             Sets silent mode which suppresses the display of
                 the SQL*Plus banner, prompts, and echoing of
                 commands.
      <logon> is: {<username>[/<password>][@<connect_identifier>] | / }
               [AS {SYSDBA | SYSOPER | SYSASM}] [EDITION=value]
        Specifies the database account username, password and connect
        identifier for the database connection.  Without a connect
        identifier, SQL*Plus connects to the default database.
        The AS SYSDBA, AS SYSOPER and AS SYSASM  options are database
        administration privileges.
        <connect_identifier> can be in the form of Net Service Name
        or Easy Connect.
          @[<net_service_name> | [//]Host[:Port]/<service_name>]
         <net_service_name> is a simple name for a service that resolves
         to a connect descriptor.
         Example: Connect to database using Net Service Name and the
               database net service name is ORCL.
            sqlplus myusername/mypassword@ORCL
         Host specifies the host name or IP address of the database
         server computer.
         Port specifies the listening port on the database server.
         <service_name> specifies the service name of the database you
         want to access.
         Example: Connect to database using Easy Connect and the
               Service name is ORCL.
            sqlplus myusername/mypassword@Host/ORCL
        The /NOLOG option starts SQL*Plus without connecting to a
        database.
        The EDITION specifies the value for Session Edition.
      <start> is: @<URL>|<filename>[.<ext>] [<parameter> ...]
        Runs the specified SQL*Plus script from a web server (URL) or the
        local file system (filename.ext) with specified parameters that
        will be assigned to substitution variables in the script.
    When SQL*Plus starts, and after CONNECT commands, the site profile
    (e.g. $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/glogin.sql) and the user profile
    (e.g. login.sql in the working directory) are run.  The files may
    contain SQL*Plus commands.
    Refer to the SQL*Plus User's Guide and Reference for more information.

  • How does the remote object connect to the correct host

    i have had a small doubt on how the remote reference manages to find the correct host to call the subsequent methods after a sucessful lookup.
    given a rebind or bind to the registry, the registry only stores the alias and the remote reference, now imagine a client calling a lookup on the registry would only get the remote reference, and not in which machine the remote object is found.
    what i wanted to know is how does the client or atleast the remote reference returned by the registry correctly connects to the machine where the remote object is located. i dont think its stored in the stub bcos the stub is a complie time stuff.
    i would be pleased to have a comprehensive answer for this.

    The membership in the group communication framework is always accurate and upto date.Up to date to the moment when you check. Not up to date to the moment when you make the RMI call.
    i could basically chk if this ip is available in the membership list.Complete waste of time. It doesn't matter what you check ahead of time, you are still trying to predict the future.
    And you still have to deal with ConnectException etc from the actual remote method call. And the way you will deal with that in your situation is exactly the same as what you were going to do if your ahead-of-time check failed.
    So just catch the exception(s) and deal with the problem there.

  • Connection to remote database failed

    I have configured the cman.ora file and changed the connection
    string for the java applet, but I encountered the error
    "The NT Adapter could not establish the connection" when I tried
    to connect to remote database from JDev2.0(beta).
    Any ideas of what are the possible causes for this?
    At the cman.ora file, the setting are:
    cman = (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<web_host_ip>)(PORT=1610))
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<db_host_ip>)(PORT=1521))
    cman_profile = (parameter_list=
    (MAXIMUM_RELAYS=1024)
    (LOG_LEVEL=1)
    (TRACING=yes)
    (RELAY_STATISTICS=yes)
    (SHOW_TNS_INFO=yes)
    (USE_ASYNC_CALL=yes)
    (AUTHENTICATION_LEVEL=0)
    At the java applet the connection statement are:
    DriverManager.registerDriver (new
    oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn =
    DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:" +
    "@(description=(address_list=" +

    "(source_route=yes)" +
    "(connect_data=(sid=<orasid>)))", "<user>", "<id>");
    The error at the dos prompt running from JDev2 are:

    I am able to connect to the remote database using SQL*plus but

    How do I test the CMAN connection from SQL*plus? Any example for

  • Process terminated by signal 11 (abap dump) connecting to remote database

    Hi
    We are currently running 4.7 Enterprise on Oracle 9.2.0.6.0 and frequently connect to another remote (non SAP) oracle database using the following statements:
    exec sql.
    connect to 'remote'
    endexec.
    The remote system is set up in SAP using view DBCON.
    This works pretty well but we have started to see an increasing number of terminations "Process terminated by signal 11"
    I suppose I have two questions
    1. Can we modify our abap to catch this exception (this would let us try again or exit gracefully)
    2. Does anyone know the cause of this exception or where to look to find the cause
    Many thanks for your help.
    Simon

    Fixed at last - an update to the Oracle client / libaries I think was what cured it in the end. Phew
    Thanks

  • Remote Database connection throught JDBC-ODBC

    Hi everybody
    I've developed an application which connects to a MS Access database throught the JDBC-ODBC bridge; if the database is on my local machine I've no problem at all, but I now need to connect to a database on a remote PC. I've set the DSN entry for the database on the remote computer and try to connect using something like:
    String db_name="jdbc:odbc:remote_pc_name\\\\DSN_db_name";
    Properties db_prop=new Properties();
    db_prop.setProperty("user","username");
    db_prop.setProperty("password","user_password");
    Connection dbconn=DriverManager.getConnection(db_name,db_prop);
    but the ODBC driver gives me the message
    "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] DSN not found and driver not specified.
    I've tried other possible "connection strings" but I always get the same message.
    The software works properly if I connect to the local DB with:
    String db_name="jdbc:odbc:DSN_db_name";
    Any idea how to connect to a remote DB through ODBC?
    Thanks

    No need for a separate thread really is there? its still relevant to the original.

  • Sqlplus to connect to remote oracle database server

    Hi,
    I have oracle 10g database server on solaris 10 and I usually connect using my solaris account and run sqlplus on the server itself. this works !
    I have downloaded and installed oracle instant client for solaris 64 and I can run sqlplus command but I am confused on what should be the syntax on the command to connect to remote solaris 10 databse server where I have both system and oracle account.
    I have tried sqlplus help but still I could not get correct sysntax which could be used to authenticate myself to oracle server.
    I tried
    sqlplus user@hostname:1512/SID
    then it asked for password but when I typed password and pressed enter, it gave some error
    but it again asked for username so I type user@SID and then password prompt - typed password and this works!
    so I don't understand what should be the correct syntax so that in the first attempt only I am able to connect.
    if possible please give the exact command with realworld examples,(I have tried with sqlplus -help already)
    Thanks in advance.

    wonder what if I did not have tnsnames.ora on the client machine, how will be the syntax?You generally need (or at least strongly want) a tnsnames.ora file on the client machine.
    - You could configure Oracle Internet Directory and let that product provide TNS alias resolution for the organization (similar to setting up DNS for a local network).
    - Many tools (I haven't personally tried SQL*Plus and it may be version dependent) allow you to specify the entire TNS alias from the tnsnames.ora file (i.e. everything after the abcd.domain.com = entry) but that is hugely cumbersome to type
    - Depending on the Oracle client version, the sqlnet.ora file, the complexity of your configuration (i.e. if you are trying to use more sophisticated features like failover), you may be able to use the EZConnect syntax
    sqlplus username/password@host:port:SID/service_nameWhere host is the server that the database is running on, port is the port the listener is listening on (i.e. 1521 by default) and SID/service_name is the SID or service name you're trying to connect to.

  • Connect to Remote Oracle Database

    I am unsuccessfully trying to connect to remote Oracle database using OleDB/ODBC/Oracle Client.
    Do I have to install Oracle Client in order to use those drivers and which version?
    I would really appreciate any help. THANK YOU!

    Marina,
    Please refer this question to the general Installation forum. Thanks!
    The short answer is yes, you need to have the Oracle client software installed.
