Connection to remote database failed

I have configured the cman.ora file and changed the connection
string for the java applet, but I encountered the error
"The NT Adapter could not establish the connection" when I tried
to connect to remote database from JDev2.0(beta).
Any ideas of what are the possible causes for this?
At the cman.ora file, the setting are:
cman = (ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<web_host_ip>)(PORT=1610))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<db_host_ip>)(PORT=1521))
cman_profile = (parameter_list=
(MAXIMUM_RELAYS=1024)
(LOG_LEVEL=1)
(TRACING=yes)
(RELAY_STATISTICS=yes)
(SHOW_TNS_INFO=yes)
(USE_ASYNC_CALL=yes)
(AUTHENTICATION_LEVEL=0)
At the java applet the connection statement are:
DriverManager.registerDriver (new
oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:" +
"@(description=(address_list=" +
"(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=<web_host_ip>)(port=1610))" +
"(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=<db_host_ip>)(port=1521)))" +
"(source_route=yes)" +
"(connect_data=(sid=<orasid>)))", "<user>", "<id>");
The error at the dos prompt running from JDev2 are:
java.sql.SQLException: The NT Adapter could not establish the
connection

I am able to connect to the remote database using SQL*plus but
does it means it is using CMAN connection?
How do I test the CMAN connection from SQL*plus? Any example for
me to follow?
Thanks,
Eye Gee

    Don't use the old syntax 'SID=...' in tnsnames.ora, use 'SERVICE_NAME=...' . Make sure 'SERVICE_NAME' is exactly the same returned by 'lsnrctl status' on both nodes.
    Primary and standby cannot talk to each other currently through the listener:
    ORA-16664: unable to receive the result from a database
    Cause: During execution of a command, a database in the Data Guard broker
    configuration failed to return a result.
    Action: Check Data Guard broker logs for the details of the failure. Fix any
    possible network problems and try the command again.
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
    Cause: The listener received a request to establish a connection to a database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener specified a service name for a service (usually a database service) that either has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance has registered with the listener.
    Action: - Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
    - Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name>
    - Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener.
    - If an easy connect naming connect identifier was used, check that the service name specified is a service known by the listener.
    - Check for an event in the listener.log file.

  • Data Guard Broker connecting to standby database fails

    Hello everybody
    I checked lots of pages but I'm not able to find a solution für my problem. I already set up a primary and a standby database (prim = ALPHA1 / standby = ALPHA2).
    After enabling my dgmgrl configuration I got two errors:
    DGM-17016: failed to retrieve status for database "alpha2"
    ORA-16664: unable to receive the result from a database
    The dg log from ALPHA1 says:
    06/04/2013 16:06:57
    Site alpha2 returned ORA-16664.
    Data Guard Broker Status Summary:
    Type Name Severity Status
    Configuration alphadgb Warning ORA-16607
    Primary Database alpha1 Success ORA-00000
    Physical Standby Database alpha2 Error ORA-16664
    While the dg log from ALPHA2 (standby) says:
    06/04/2013 16:43:28
    SPFILE is missing value for property 'LogArchiveFormat' with sid='ALPHA2'
    Warning: Property 'LogArchiveFormat' has inconsistent values:METADATA='arch_ALPHA2_%S_%t_%r.arc', SPFILE='(missing)', DATABASE='arch_ALPHA2_%S_%t_%r.arc'
    Failed to connect to remote database alpha1. Error is ORA-12514
    Failed to send message to site alpha1. Error code is ORA-12514.
    How can I solve this issue? Every type of tnsping is successfull. The sqlplus login from the primary to the standby database works, the other way round works too! Therefore the tnsnames and listener data seems to be correct.

    thanks for the answer. I followed you recommendations but I got the same error again. I restored/recovered the old status and looked deeper into the dgmgrl configuration before enabling. I found an interesting point. (show database verbose ALPHAx)

    As the listener are configured ALPHA1 (prim) should be on port 1521 while ALPHA2 (stby) should work on 1522. In the configuration of DGMGRL only appears port 1521 (look at StaticConnectIdentifier). Is this maybe the reason of the networking problems with DG Broker? How can I fix this?

  • Elom Java Console "Connect to remote host Fail"

    Hi,
    I'm accessing an elom over the https interface, which works fine, however when trying to launch the Java console, the app starts but a dialogue box appears stating "Connect to remote host Fail!", and quits when I click ok. I'm using:
    Kubuntu 9.10
    Firefox 3.5.5
    Java 1.6.0_15
    Elom firmware version 2.70
    I've also tried running against JRE 1.5, and tried saving the jnlp file and running that directly from javaws, all attempts produce the same result. I am able to connect to port 8890 from my machine. An strace seems to suggest that it sends and receives from port 8890 but then gets a Connection reset by peer.
    Furthermore I've also tried running it through localhost using an ssh tunnel to the elom, again, same result.
    I've now run out of ideas of what could be causing this issue, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA
    Regards
    Craig

    SOLVED
    FYI, I downloaded the debian package of libstdc++5 from http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gcc-3.3/libstdc++5_3.3.6-18_i386.deb
    After installing that on Kubuntu, the console works fine.

    pls help me, how to connect to it
    i have the ip address,port address,sid,username and password of the database
    is there any difference in the actual code of database connection
    plss help

    Hi,
    There is a particular example with MS SQL 2000 in thread http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=608314
    In the given example you just need to change the database URL and the JDBC driver. Just examine the code a little bit.

  • Connecting to remote database (idle) with Password File Authentication

    Hi all,
    I was wondering if it's possible to connect to a remote database that is shut down (idle instance) as sys user with sysdba privileges? In the book Oracle - All in One on page 210 in the section - Operating System and Password File Authentication it says:
    Connection with operating system or password file authentication is always possible, no matter what state the instance and database are in, and is necessary to issue STARTUP or SHUTDOWN commands.
    Above indicates that it's possible but I'm unable to do so.
    I managed to connect to remote database that was in nomount mode (see below for details).
    When I first tried to connect to a remote database (idle instance) using password file authentication it was giving following error:

  • Connect to remote database

    hello
    i am souvik kundu . i am using tomcat web server that is in india . Through this web server i want to connect oracle data base that is in philipins(remote) .pls tell me the code or procedure how i connect to remote data base ?????????

    Dear Souvik,
    The physical location of the database is not of big concern while working with the java programs.
    U might be aware how to connect to remote database from ur localmachine if u have databaseclient(Oracle client for example) installed in ur system.
    U need to have a tnsnames.ora file to resolve the database.
    An entry in the tnsnames.ora file will lokk like the following
    name=( description = (address = ( host =ipnumber ) ( protocol = tcp ) (port = some port number ))(connect_data = (sid=sidname)))
    Here the sidname is very important
    If u have this description in the tnsnames file , then u can connect to any oracle machine in the world with the valid userid and password.
    al this is another part of the story , but now our concern is to make ur tomcat application capable of conencting to remote database
    there are two ways that i suggest u
    1) Explicitly make connections to the remote database from withing ur java program as follows
    String userId="scott";
    String passWord = "tiger";
    String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@ipnumber:portnumber:sidname";
    String driver = "oracle.judbc.OracleDriver";
    //This is very important
    try{
    Class.forName( driver );
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection ( url,userId,passWord );
    }catch(){
    Here the difference is that if ur using a local database u need not to give the ip number and portnumber combination
    Note:check whether ur network can contact to the destination by running the command at command prompt
    > tnsping ipnumber
    If tns ping doesnt work then u cant contact the remote database.
    2) Use tomcat admin console screen to set up a datasource and give required information as I provided above,
    Then u can obtain the connection frm the datasource.

  • Excel Services, connection to remote DB fails.

    Hi got this error message (below) when I try to refresh a excel powerpivot document with a Connection to a remote database (not SharePoint). I have configured an unattended account, and we run this workbook with an SQL-account with db-reader permissions
    to the database. If we run the workbook directly from Excel it works excellent. I followed all guides on TechNet etc, but can get this to work.
    An error occurred while working on the Data Model in the workbook. Please try again.
    We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in this workbook.
    The following connections failed to refresh:
    SqlServer jon-int-sql01 testdb

    Also get this in the event Viewer:
    OLE DB or ODBC error: Login failed for user 'sp2013'.; 28000.
    But I can login remotely from the SharePoint server with sql management studio, so my credentials are correct.

  • Connect to remote database using ODBC

    I am new to TimesTen and I would like some help connecting to remote timesten database using ODBC.
    I followed all the instructions in the manual to setup (like logical server and all). but, when I try to connect using "connect dsn=myRemoteDSN" command, it does not work. It gives me this error: 7001: User authentication failed
    It is asking me for username and password but I dont know how to setup username and password. Looked all over the internet and I could not find any relevant posts. I have already tried "unchecking" the authentication, but it still asks me for username and password.

    thanks for your help. I did not realize that that I turned on ACL. creating a user and then granting the needed permissions did the trick.
    I now have another problem. I use windows platform and .NET 2.0 (C#) to connect to remote timesten database. The driver provided by timesten (as part of installation) does not seem to support ADO.NET. I get "driver does not support this function" exception when I try to insert data into a table. Ironically, it does insert the data successfully, but still generates the exception. I looked at various forums.. everyone seems to have the same problem, but have not had any solution yet?
    Could you let me know if you encountered this issue before and how you might have resolved it?
    Many thanks
    Murthy

  • Connect to Remote Database - ORA-12154

    When attempting to use OCI to attach to a remote database I cannot resolve the service name.

    The remote database name is fed to the OCIServerAttach call as in :
    checkerr( errhp, OCIServerAttach( svrhp, errhp, (text*) server.c_str(),
    (sb4) server.length(), 0));
    Am I doing this in the correct location, or am I missing something else in the process for remote databases.
    I have no trouble connecting to a local database with a empty string in the OCIServerAttach call.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    ORA-12154: "Could not resolve service name"
    ORA-12541: "No listener"
    ORA-12154: "Could not resolve service name"
    When you try to connect to your database through Developer, try using the connect_string you've been using with .world added to it (sometimes it's appended to your connect_string automatically, and if your sqlnet.ora file has NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN and NAME.DEFAULT_ZONE set to anything other than 'world' then you may have to create a new sqlnet.ora file and set NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN and NAME.DEFAULT_ZONE to world for it to work properly.
    ORA-12541: "No listener"
    You just need to verify that the listener is running and also is listening for the SID or CONNECT_DATA value being sent be PL/SQL Developer. For example, if the listener on your remote machine is listening for 'pl_sql' but when you try to connect to the remote database the PL/SQL Developer is sending a request to connect to 'plsql', then there is 'no listener' listening for 'plsql' and it fails. IF you can connect to the remote database via sqlplus, but then when you try it from PL/SQL Developer and it fails, that means the listener is in fact running, but not listening for the correct string being sent to it by the application.
    Hope this helps.
