Lost music with update

My recent software update deleted almost off of my music from iTunes. Current mac version: 10.9.3 current iTunes version: 11.2.2 How can I recover my old music? I spent years collecting and organizing what I lost in seconds, very upset!

Despite the terse phrasing it kind of is the answer. If you don't have a backup you will have to get it from the original sources again and rebuild your library organization as best you remember.
If it was purchased from the iTunes Store and your country permits you may be able to redownload it.

If it was from CD you will have to re-rip the CDs.
Other sources, whatever they are...
I guess if you are very, very lucky the files may still be there but the library file was lost, or perhaps the locations broken. You don't say exactly what you are finding when you look in your iTunes folder or when you open iTunes itself.

When I updated itunes, I lost a significant portion of my music, especially my podcasts. These podcasts are not re-downloadable as they are only offered for one week before changing.
I followed the instructions for restoring lost library items following an update found in previous threads and in apple support. These instructions restored the *file names* of lost music, but I have discovered that the instructions did not restore the files. I have tried to manually find the files and cannot find them on my computer. I am furious with myself that I trusted apple and updated itunes before performing a full system back-up.
Can anyone give me any hope for my lost library?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I lost music after updating to iOS 7, iTunes can't find what can I do?

After updating my iPhone to ios7 I lost a lot of music in my phone and iTunes iTunes was updated too and music is still listed there but can not find.

I have the same problem which started after I upgraded to iOS 7. It works particularly bad on the iPhone 4. It is in "Loading iTunes Match" mode most of the time with no or very slow progress, and when it finally ends, the uploaded Playlists are never there, not one. "Loading iTunes Match" would restart again after leaving and restarting music, say 50% of the time. Not sure what really is being loaded and can't understand why it has to be reloaded so often.
I had a problem ticket with Apple Support, but the specialist asked for a series of screenshots documenting the start time of "Loading iTunes Match" and the eventual completion time. I told him to forget it because I had already spent too much time turning this and that on and off for so many times in so many days trying to listen to my own uploaded music and I did not want to fiddle around anymore. I have decided not to renew my iTunes Match service in November, and have since turned off iTunes Match on all my devices and gone back to syncing to keep things simple.
I also have Amazon Cloud Player which is working just fine for the purpose of having some kind of cloud access of my music. I will be renewing this $24 service this month for another year instead of iTunes Match.
Apple was supposed to be very good at software development, and for them not resolving a problem in a paid service since the rollout of iOS 7 is just disappointing.

Lost Music with upgrade 9.2 - Found iTunes Database File???

When I upgraded to 9.2 itunes, I lost all the music I had downloaded from CD's. I found the itunes database file dated October 2007 in the Previous iTunes Library Folder. How do I get that music back on the itunes library dated August 2010 which was the date of the upgrade?? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are you saying there wasn't an ITL file with a more recent date? There should be one from the date you upgraded to 9.2 if it is on the same PC and same windows userID.

Very new at this. Use ipod shuffle set up itunes all was good. Connected husbands ipod touch asked for updates, lost all the music can I get it back?

Recovering lost songs with update to itunes..

I went to do the update for the itunes and lost all the songs on my ipod and on itunes. Now it says on desktop when I click on the icon "The file "iTunes Libary.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. So if anyone can help in that area. Great stuff thanks

Lost music + itunes crashes

iTunes has somehow become unstable with frequent crashes (freezes/locks up) and lost music (with no rhyme or reason as to which music has been lost).
The iTunes program haphazardly prompts me with a message that says "The song <insert name here> cannot be used because the original file could not be located. Would you like to locate it?".
For the most part I am able to find the song in the iTunes folder on my C drive, but there are numerous occasions when I cannot.
I have tried upgrading my version of iTunes hoping that whatever file that was corrupted would be fixed, but the problem persist.
I have tried to locate a number to call for assistance with the above problems to no avail.
Questions I am hoping for help + guidance with:
1) Is there no iTunes customer support beyond the kindness of other users?
2) What happened to my music? I have tried to "consolidate library" and check for purchases ...?
3) Why is my iTunes unstable? What can I do to fix it?
4) Is there a way to contact iTunes and have them restore the songs purchased but now lost?
Thanks much for your help. Very frustrating to have paid so much into a system (500 songs plus) and then have it be unreliable ...

Let's get the application installed properly first, then focus on the library...

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

Lost music after itunes update

Hi All
I just did the latest software update for my itunes and seem to have lost all my music. Called apple care and they talked me through looking the lost music. They said it looks like its gone. Any one have this problem? I was not the first one to call with this same problem. Any ideas on where to find my lost music libary along with ratings and such?

sorry to hear of your loss. that is why I always back up my purchases.
you can email support and they can provide a one time exception and allow a re download of all yoru purchases, or at least what is still available for download.

Lost info. with recent update

It seems that I have lost info. with the new update. I had a few recordings in Quick Voice. They are now gone. Most other apps will ask me if they can use my current location, etc. as if they are now new. Not sure why that happened. Any insight?

Is the camera damaged? Could be a hardware problem.
Try:
Close the Camera app in the multitasking bar, then try again.
Restart/Reset/Restore your iPod. In that order.

The same way it was done in every previous version.
Connect the device to the computer.
Right click on the device in iTunes and select Transfer Purchases.
Why would you lose any content by syncing with iTunes?
Is this not the computer that the device is normally synced with?

How do I retrieve lost music , books and video that I lost when trying to sync my iPad with my computer

I was tryning to sync my iPad and computer iTunes so tha I could load new music to my iPod and I have lost music, a movie and book that I purchased from the iTunes store last week, even though it was backed up last night with everything. Hello All, yesterday afternoon I just lost all recent updates to my iCal from the last days. How can this possibly happen ??? It may have occured after I chose the Refresh function after I had problems searching my iCal for a particular event. I think my iPhone was also not properly synched in the morning but I didn't pay it much attention and opened iCal on my MacBookAir instead.
How can I prevent this from happening again?

Random glitch. It doesn't matter; if you didn't backup the data, then you can't recover the data.
In the future, for any 'important' data, back up that data regularly. Forward the 'important' text messages to your email. Trasnfer your photos & videos to your computer, etcetera.

I updated my iphone just last week after 11 months of not updating. I have just noticed that since the update I have lost music that I have purchased from itunes. I don't know how much music is missing, however it seems to be quite a bit of recently purchased music. How can I retrieve this music? When I go onto iTunes and look at songs I know I have purchased it says "buy now" not "install" or "download" so it looks like it will charge me again of I try. I won't be impressed at all if I have to purchase all the music I'm missing again. Not only that, I don't know how much music is missing.
Please tell me there is a way to get it all back!

Why is it not in your itunes library? If you purchase any content on your phone, you MUST File>Transfer purchases to get the content into your itunes library. The itunes content sync is ONE WAY: computer to phone. You can re-download purchased apps for free. For the rest of your purchased content, contact itunes support, plead your case, beg...they "may" let you re-download it, but the decision is theirs:

For future reference: the iphone should NOT be used as a storage device, things can & will happen. If you purchase content on your phone, ALWAYS File>Transfer Purchases as soon as possible. Likewise, your itunes library should be regularly backed up.
