Loud and fast motor on MacBook Pro
My 3 yr old MacBook Pro with a lot of hard drive room occasionally runs with a loud sound as if a motor is running fast. Any ideas what that is?
The noise makers on a MBP are the fans, HDD and the DVD drive. You can also run an Apple Hardware Test:

There's info here on setting up separate libraries and user accounts. You won't have to reload (or re-import) all the music, just copy it.
The reason I suggest separate accounts on the Mac is because if you have the two libraries under the same user account, iTunes will also open the last library that was open in that account, and you'll always have to be mindful of which library that is. If you open iTunes and find it's not your library, you'll have quit, relaunch holding the option key and select the other library.
No, you won't have to log in and out of the Mac. (If I'm understanding your question here.) Multiple accounts can be logged in at the same time. And with fast user switching, you can toggle between user accounts.
I'll admit that maintaining the two libraries gets a little tricky, because if you share all the same music, you'll have to add it to one and update the other. (That won't happen automatically.) But I think Home Sharing makes this much easier to do.

10.6, quicktime, and itunes on a macbook pro 2.53 w/ 4gb ram and ssd

I am experiencing something extremely weird, and extremely frustrating...
What I am experiencing is that after I've been using my system for a while, I will launch quicktime, and I will get the spinning ball forever.. If I launch iTunes it will just bounce on my dock forever and not launch.
Then I have to reboot, which is sometimes impossible to do, so I will have to manually tell my system to shutdown via the terminal.
When my mac reboots, everything is fine.. Quicktime launches, iTunes launches, happy world...
... So I thought it was perhaps something that I was doing (applications that I was running, websites I was visiting etc.), but now I have evidence that it's not. Which is even more confusing. Last night, a friend wanted me to pull up something on quicktime-- I got the spinning ball.. Said "ugh, I don't understand what is up with my system". Clicked restart.. It wouldn't restart.. lauched terminal.. sudo shutdown -h now... Ok.. it's off.. turn it on.. Launch quicktime.. hooray.. there's the video..
Ok-- That was the extent of me using my computer. I left it on after that for many hours.. and eventually closed the laptop.
In the morning, opened it up.. Clicked quicktime, and.. SPINNING BALL. Had to reboot.
so, the only thing I can think is that something is occurring inactivity, or sleep, something that is causing QT and iTunes to mess up... I tried doing various tests, but could not come up with anything. I tried just running my screensaver for a while, but quicktime still comes up no problem.
Very frustrating.. I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this, and if there are any suggestions for what I should do. I have zapped p-ram, I have repaired permissions...

1. That's a risk, and more in a MacBook Pro, that has got everything soldered except the hard drive and memory.
2. If you want performance, buy a SSD. It will get the best performance but they are expensive, so you should consider the option to buy a SSD with a small capacity to store OS X and applications and an external disk for other data.
3. SSDs are much better than hard disk drives because they haven't got mechanical parts. You will notice this difference in read and write tasks like a startup, that will be much faster. However, in other tasks, it doesn't mind if you have a HDD or a SSD, because performance depends on the processor and graphic card. Also, you will notice a difference with a 7200 rpm hard disk.
4. You can take it to an Apple Store or reseller to see what they can do in order to repair your computer -

Hope I can play games with high quality.If you have a brand new MacBook Pro or have installed Lion on an older one, you can only instal Windows 7 on Boot Camp (for some reason you can't use Vista or earlier). If you install via Boot Camp, Windows 7 will run as fast as your computer is. Generally, MacBook Pros are very fast laptops, so you should be pretty good. That being said, just like any laptop, if it's a cheaper MacBook Pro, you won't have access to as capable graphics processing as more high-end machines. So if it's a newer game with crazy impressive graphics, you will likely not be able to tap into the highest settings on the game on any laptop. -

I purchased Pages, Numbers and Keynote for my MacBook Pro and iPad last year. I just purchased a new iMac for my wife and it came with iWorks. When I try to save a document on the iMac it tells me I must buy an iWorks serial number, but the App Store shows the applications as installed and will not process the request. How do I correct?
Did you pay for iWorks to come preinstalled on the iMac? Because it sounds like what you have is a trial version, which is why it is stating that you need to buy a serial number.
I suggest that you delete the entire trial iWorks suite. Once they are safely in the Trash where the Mac App Store can't see them, you can sign into your account on the MAS and download the MAS versions that you own a license to use. -

DVD drives read the bottom of the disk, not the top. Smooth out the paper & try again.

If you can't get dragging to work, just click on Safari from your Applications folder, and it should appear in the dock. Then you can right-click on the icon and PIN it permanently there.

You can use the hotkeys, as Steve said. It sort of sounds as if you can't right click though.
If you're using the touchpad, go into system preferences>trackpad, enable "secondary click, tap with 2 fingers". Then, when you click/tap the touchpad with 2 fingers instead of one, it'll right click, giving you the option to copy/paste whatever you highlighted. -
I've updated all my software and Itunes on my Macbook Pro but when I went to open iTunes it tells me it's either corrupted or not installed correctly and to reinstall it. Is there anyway to fix it without reinstalling the whole program?

I am connected to wi-fi through TC connected to a specific router and is working perfectly and saving data through TM without any issues.
The TC version is 7.6.1 and am using OS 10.7.3
The router mode is on Bridge mode and router is connected to TC through USB cable, I suppose for internet access. My Mac is on wi-fi through TC
I have another location, much further, which recently have been installed with wi-fi through router that has WPA accessibiulity with password, 100% different than the current one.
Since, I will be most of my time in this new location, I wish to move my TC to this new location, and configure it in similar fashion like what I am having right now.
Naturally, I do not wish to lose any saved data on the TC.
