UCS-CUCM Swicthport configuration

Hi There,
I just wanted to ask for best practice port config on BE6K servers.
The BE6K(UCS) is only hosting CUCM server. The switch port is configured as ether-channels.
Below is the config that I am planning to apply. I am just wondering whether we should apply the qos trust command as well  " mls qos trust dscp". No other servers will be running on this UCS.
Config:
interface Port-channel1
description ****** UCS1 ports ******
switchport access vlan 18
switchport mode access
speed 1000
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast
Interface gig 1/0/1
description ****** UCS1 port1  ******
switchport access vlan 18
switchport mode access
speed 1000
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast
Interface gig 1/0/2
description ****** UCS1 port2 ******
switchport access vlan 18
switchport mode access
speed 1000
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast

Hi David,
Yes add the mls qos trust dscp command to set these ports to trust the dscp markings coming from your CUCM server. Also set the trunk links to trust as well to propagate the dscp markings over the network.

  • CUCM full configuration in text format

    Dear All,
Can we pull out the CUCM full configuration in text format ?
Actually one of My customer wants CUCM' confiuration in text format to check feasibility to add CUCM to "Device Expert" like switches, router etc.
Below is the overview of Device Expert, FYI:
DeviceExpert is a web–based, multi vendor network change, configuration and compliance management (NCCCM) solution for switches, routers, firewalls and other network devices. Trusted by thousands of network administrators around the world, DeviceExpert helps automate and take total control of the entire life cycle of device configuration management.
    Best Regards,
    Suresh

    I'm sorry, I don't know. You'll have to ask a Device Expert expert ;-)
From your description (and a 1 second glance at their website), it looks like Device Expert expects something like an IOS command interface where you can configure the device and do something like a "sh run" to get it's configuration. Standard stuff for switches and routers. Not so standard for voice.
NOTE: If you're using CUCM Express, then yes, you can, as CUCME is IOS based, so all its config is there within the IOS "sh run" output. But the full blown CUCM is a very different beast, has a rather large database schema behind it and is usually configured via a web UI.

  • UCS,CUCM and MS Exchange

    Hi,
Apologies for noob question but is it possible to run CUCM & MS Exchange on the same UCS C server? Is there a sizing tool that will help me spec this?
    Rich

If you want/expect a link that covers whether a particular app is supported on UCS, there isn't one. You won't find a doc explaining on which scenarios Exchange will work and how to size, etc.
We provide guidelines for ALL the 3rd party apps, only special case which has particular considerations is the 6K as which set of applications can be deployed is limited.

  • UCS C210 - Initial Configuration using DHCP

    Hello All,
I'm trying to do the initial configuration for a C210 but we have no keyboard and monitor. So the idea was to use the default configuration on the Shared LOM, using DHCP. But i can't get an ip address.
We connected the server to the switch core, that is the DHCP server. The switch port is configured correctly. I can see the mac-address being identified by the switch, the LOM on the server is up, the switch port is up but cant get ip address.
So we are stuck right now, trying to get a monitor and keyboard.
Any clue on how to solve that?

    Hello Rafael,
    i just want to sharing
For initial configuration i always use DHCP, this is my tool
For 1or2 Cisco UCS C-series if more then 3 just add the switch
    1. laptop
    2. Cat6 cable (cross/straight its ok
    3. tftpd32
    step:
    1. plug cat6 cable to laptop NIC port and to 1GB LOM C210 (dont power the c210)
    2. run tftpd32
    3. configure DHCP server
    4. configure your laptop NIC with static ip address (same subnet with DHCP pool)
    5. turn off firewall on laptop
    6. power on C210
    7. open tftpd32 and monitoring the IP address..
if c210 already power up or didnt get the ip address you should unplug the power cable and plug again and power on the c210..
you must plug the cat 6 to 1GB LOM (port 1 or 2 its OK but dont plug to MGMT port)

  • CUCM Group Configuration- question about phones failing to secondary callmanager

I wanted to get clarification about how exactly phones will register to the secondary or tertiary servers if the link to the primary fails.
I have a 3 server CUCM cluster.  1 subscriber that some phones register to is separated from the other 2.
When the link to that sub goes down, the phone should then register to the secondary server of its Cisco Unified CallManager Group configuration, correct?
If this is true, then my next question is how long does it take to then failover to the secondary server?
SRST is not involved in this, it's just the CUCM Group Config.  Any help clarifying how phones behave in this situation?

I found my own answer in the Cisco Press Troubleshooting Cisco IP Telephony book, page 155:
"The TFTP configuration file received by the IP phone has a list of up to three CallManagers
for registration purposes. The order of CallManagers indicates their priority. The first is the
highest-priority CallManager for the IP phone. It is the first place the IP phone attempts to
register. The highest-priority CallManager is also called the primary CallManager.
When the IP phone registers with its primary CallManager, it also establishes a standby
TCP connection to the next-highest–priority available CallManager, sometimes called the
standby CallManager, secondary CallManager, or backup CallManager.
The IP phone knows that there is an alternative CallManager for quick failover if it loses connectivity
    with its primary CallManager.
At any given point in time, the CallManager to which the phone is registered is its active
connection. The CallManager node that has a standby TCP connection for the IP phone is
    the standby connection.
    Failover occurs under two conditions:
    • If the TCP connection between the IP phone and the primary CallManager goes down.
Incidentally, stopping the CallManager service on a server causes all the TCP connections
to be closed and all the IP phones on that server to register to their standby.
    • If CallManager has not responded to three consecutive KeepAlive messages sent from
    the IP phone.
Any number of network-related issues could cause the TCP connection to go down. When
the IP phone registers with its standby CallManager, it registers with an alarm indicating
    why it failed over.
Under the second condition, CallManager fails to respond to three consecutive KeepAlives.
The IP phone sends a KeepAlive message every 30 seconds by default. CallManager should
answer each KeepAlive the IP phone sends with an acknowledgment message. If
CallManager fails to respond to three consecutive KeepAlive messages, the IP phone marks
the connection as “bad.” The IP phone does not tear down the TCP connection, but it does
not attempt to re-register with the “bad” CallManager either. It continues sending
KeepAlive messages to the “bad” CallManager until CallManager tears down the TCP
connection. This delay gives CallManager time to respond if it recovers quickly. After 10
minutes, the IP phone removes the “bad” tag and again tries to establish communication
with CallManager using KeepAlive messages in the process just described. During this
time, the IP phone attempts to establish a connection with its secondary CallManager (or
its tertiary if the secondary is not available) and registers if possible.
If a call is in progress when an IP phone detects the loss of a TCP connection, the IP phone
does not fail over until the call is finished. If CallManager fails to respond to three consecutive
KeepAlive messages while an IP phone has an active call, the IP phone again waits
until the call is finished before registering to its standby CallManager."
Hope that helps someone else in the future.

  • UCS BIOS Policy Configuration

    Hello,
Is there any document out there where to find a really comprehensive info about configs in the BIOS Policy for Service Profiles (not enough meat in the UCS Config Guide)?? When to leave "platform-default"?? What is the "platform-default" value in every single parameter? What does actually mean/imply every single parameter in this BIOS config? Which are the recommended values for each O.S. and why?? Which are the pros and cons of enabling/disabling each and every single parameter of this BIOS Policy Config?
I notice there is a lot to be configured in this part of UCS, but there's no clear and comprehensive information about how to make it and best practices.
    Thanks a lot,

    Dani,
Have you looked at the CLI config guide?
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/cli/config/guide/2.0/b_UCSM_CLI_Configuration_Guide_2_0_chapter_011011.html#reference_D3132F42886C44A59E0EDCA8F62D5D26
All the BIOS options are explained under the "Configuring BIOS Settings Section".
This does cover a high level explanation of each option, but doesn't provide any recommendations of when to use which.

    Robert

  • CUCM 9.1.2 -- 10.5(2) failure

    Hi All,
    I am trying to upgrade our CUCM from 9.1.2(SU2) --> 10.5(2) (UCSInstall_UCOS_10.5.2.10000-5.sgn.iso)
I believe I have performed all the upgrade requirements:
Our hardware is Cisco UCS with old "Medium" UCS Tested Reference Configuration for 2500 users. Each node has 2 x vCPUs.
9.1.2(SU2) tp 10.5(2) is documented as a "Direct Upgrade"
I have/had at least 30GB free in the common partition on each node
ciscocm.version3-keys.cop has been installed on all nodes
I did not install the refresh_upgrade COP file, as I am upgrading from 9.1.2 (i.e. not pre-version 8.5)
The virtual machine specification meets all the requirements for 10.5(2)
The installation goes for approx 1.5 - 2hrs before it does "Post-installation" tasks where is fails at item 6 or 6 of "Installing database component"
    Th install log shows:
    01/24/2015 17:24:02 component_install|File:/opt/cisco/install/bin/component_install:807, Function: exec_progmeter(), /opt/cisco/install/bin/progmeter failed (1)|<LVL::Error>

It seem very similar to the following Cisco support forum issue : https://supportforums.cisco.com/printpdf/12334191; however, I have been unable to remove the AUNP dial plan; I suspect because I have quite a number of route patterns using it and do not wish to remove them.
I upgraded the dial plan as an attempt to rectify the issue, however the upgrade still fails.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Kent

I've run into this issue on several upgrades and always dread seeing a xxNP in use, the way i get around this is by exporting the route patterns, Bulk Administration > Export and select it from there.
TAC will then need to get Root access to remove the xxNP's (all of them) and then the upgrade will succeed.
Once the upgrade is completed and you have installed the xxNP you then need to export the route patterns again from the v10.x server as you will need to edit the header.txt stored within the .tar file. Copy 'CCM : master-10.5.1.11901-1.i386' section from the 10.x export and replace the one in the 9.x export.
You can then import the CUCM 9.x route patterns in CUCM 10.x
    Hope this helps,
    Richard

  • Installing UCS 240 M3 SFF

    Hi,
We have purchased 4 Cisco UCS 240 M3 SFF(Two each in 2 Data Center) for migrating hardware from Cisco MCS to Cisco UCS.We have purchased VMware vSphere Standard 5 software directly from VMware. As new to virtualized server platform ,will help if some one can answer below-
-Is there any good document which mentions step by step procedure how to install & bring up the UCS 240 M3 SFF server. Example-start with RAID followed with ESXi install, vSphere/vCentre..
-Is there any SRND,best practice document for Cisco UCS 240 M3 SFF -RAID,NIC, vCentre..
    - We have 14 hard disks per server. What is the recommended RAID configuration.RAID5?Any good document on RAID configuration?
    - Do we need two vCenter to manage all the VMs on 4 servers in two Data Centers taking into account of redundancy if one vCenter fails or WAN failure between data Centers.
    - I need to install and bring up the UCS server remotely. If I configure the management IP through BIOS and connect the management port to the network, can I configure rest of the server remotely?
    - I see four 1 GB NIC ports on the UCS server and assume should be configured as trunk/dot1q on the network switch. Is there anything to be done on UCS to configure as trunk port? Should the ports on the network switch be configured as trunk/dot1q & speed 1000full as best practice?

    - Too many Variables
    Q. I need to install and bring up the UCS server remotely. If I configure the management IP through BIOS and connect the management port to the network, can I configure rest of the server remotely?
    - yes that can be done using CIMC Web gui.
    Q. I see four 1 GB NIC ports on the UCS server and assume should be configured as trunk/dot1q on the network switch. Is there anything to be done on UCS to configure as trunk port? Should the ports on the network switch be configured as trunk/dot1q & speed 1000full as best practice?
    - It all depends on the co-resident Vms but I think trunk is the way to go.

    Currently envinronment is
    1.CUCM 9.1
    2.IM & Presence 9.1
    3 AD 2012 R2
i have configured for Jabber for iPhone 9.6.1 and Window 9.7 and use UDS as service profile.
Everything working properly unless i can't use AD user for authentication it appear screen as can't locate server.
Local user in CUCM can login normally and confirm that all AD configuration in CUCM are configured (LDAP directory, authentication and even in service profile)and i can use AD user to login via CUCM and IMAP user option page which mean LDAP integration should be working fine. but i can't log in via Jabber for iPhone or Window.
When i look through CUCM IMAP 9.1 document in LDAP integration support list. it not show AD version 2012 so i am not sure it won't work because it not include in support list or not
This is Problem report from Jabber for iPhone with login user "test". It look like there is network connectivity problem but this client can ping and browse into IMAP correctly

    This issue has been solved!
The root cause was compatibility problem between CUCM 9.1 and AD 2012. We need to upgrade CUCM and IM and Presence to version 10.5 to solve this issue.
Many thanks TAC engineer name Tapan Dutt for solved this issue

  • SRST How to Documentation CUCM Version 7.1.5.34900-7

    Hello:
I am looking for some really good documentation on how to setup SRST and how to enable it when a internet/network circuit is down but the router is there on site.
    Thanks

  • Calling Tandberg endpoint from CUCM

    Hi
I am having trouble establishing a video call between E20 registered to VCS running software version X6.1.
I have a E20 and a 9971 registered to CUCM version 8.0.3. When I make a video call, the call gets connected but I dont get any video.
I also have MCS 4203 and I can join a conference from CUCM endpoint and I get video over the same SIP Trunk
I appreciate any inputs with this issue
    Regards

    It could be  CSCtc43440.
Please follow the instructions below to see if it works :
Currently, the 9971 and 9951 phones do not support video resolutions
    greater than 640x480.
If the other end point sends a size greater than this, the 9971/9951
displays a black box instead of the video sent by the other phone.
    Workaround:
To prevent non-Cisco phones from sending resolutions greater than
640x480 (VGA), the video bandwidth setting must be reduced. To change
the bit rate, set the Video Call Bandwidth parameter in the CUCM region
configuration to no more than 384 kbps for the region used by at least
    one of the phones.
Some video phone models will send larger resolution than 640x480 even at
384 kbps. If a black box is seen on the phone, continue lowering the
Video Bandwidth setting until the other phone sends video at a lower
resolution and video is visible on the 9951 or 9971 phone.
It may be desirable to place 9971/9951 phones in a separate region from
video phones that send higher video resolutions and restrict the Video
Bandwidth between those regions rather than restrict the bandwidth on
calls between phones that do not cause the black screen behavior.

  • Adding SAN through web-security and Creating CSR for Tomcat (CUCM 10.5) to be signed by Third Party CA

    Hi Guys,
Wondering if Any one has done this or could suggest the needful,
We are running CUCM 10.5 cluster and currently using self-signed certificate for Tomcat. Now, we would like to get it signed by Third party CA.
Just to be clear that we are doing this for Jabber clients so they should not get prompted for certificate Invalid.
    Now the issue; The CUCM is using IP address as hostname and for that reason we had to add the desired IP address under SAN (alternate name) through set web-security command. We did that successfully and restarted the Tomcat service and when we run the Show web-security command, it does show the added SAN;
     altNames: 2 names
              1) UCS-CUCM-UB.domain (dNSName)
              2) 10.x.x.x (dNSName)
But when we try to generate the new CSR, it didn't contain the modified SAN, just the first one i.e only 1) UCS-CUCM-UB.domain (dNSName)
Is there anything we missed here to get the added SAN being populated in the new CSR ?
    Regards
    M

    Hi Gordon,
Thank you for your prompt response. For recommendation, you are right but we don't want to initiate that change for now unless, there is no other option left.
While Generating new CSR, under SAN, there is only Parent Domain field which is populated with our domain name. How should I add the IP address there ?
    Regards

After this the phones are still not registering, I'm suspecting it is the url authentication command, as i can't put the application-name and password after the command, any suggestions would be appreciated. THanks in advance.

    Try adding:
    voice register global
     url authentication http://192.168.1.254/CCMCIP/authenticate.asp secretname psswrd
if still doesn't work try to compare your config with the reference guide here:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmeadm/cmemobl.html#pgfId-1163414
