LR 3 is Unuseable

Physical processor count: 4
Processor speed: 2.6 GHz
Built-in memory: 3070.5 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 716.8 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 1098.3 MB (153.2%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 1217.0 MB
I can't even export a 1024x640 image after correcting the RAW version ... and while editing the RAW file I constantly hang with "Lightroom not responding" and efects taking very long to render.
I can't function like this.  There just has to be a problem here.
Recommended RAM is 2GB.....they obviously forgot to adress the issue that Vista has by not allocating required memory to the program as Vista manages memory and seems to only allocate less than a gig of RAM to lightroom.  There must be a patch they can put out that allows you th select how much memory you want to allocate to Lightroom.   My music editing and slide show software both have menu options that allow me to prioritize when in use and to take all available RAM while software is running.  I am sure Adobe can do the same.  They missed the ball here.
I must export each raw file into CS5 and then save the file from CS5.  Horrible.

Well I ran it bcdedit ... you can see the user value below.
identifier              {current}
device                  partition=C:
path                    \Windows\system32\winload.exe
description             Microsoft Windows Vista
locale                  en-US

recoveryenabled         Yes
osdevice                partition=C:

resumeobject            {f177ad70-9f30-11dc-9737-001e8c2a4769}
nx                      OptIn
increaseuserva          3072
C:\Windows\system32>
I re-booted system...... opened lightroom
Physical processor count: 4
Processor speed: 2.6 GHz
Built-in memory: 3070.5 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 1228.8 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 743.4 MB (60.5%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 869.6 MB
Memory cache size: 0.0 MB
System DPI setting: 96 DPI
Running the command to increase the RAM value to 3072 gained me 500mb or half a gig more ram but still short of the two GB that forms the system requirements minimum.  I still can't fathom why Windows 32bit Vista caches so much memory!
When I ran photoshop before the bcdedit command, my system was making 2GB of ram available to it (CS5 extended).  Checking that now, I note that it made another half gig available to it.
So, could this theoretically be an software issue?  Remember, before setting the bcedit uservalue to 3GB, real memory avail to LR was less than a gig, while a full 2GB was available to CS5 Extended.  After running it, values increased by half a Gig to each.   This seems weird to me, where Windows allows the required RAM to CS5 but markedly limits it to LR.
The command by the way to reset the BCedit user value for anyone else trying this is :
C:\>bcdedit/deletevalue increaseuserva
Remember.....always reboot system for changes to take effect.
In summary...........could there be a programming situation within LR that, for some reason, is limiting the allocation of memory?  I only make this assumption because no such problems exist with memory avail to CS5, even before I ran the bcedit changes.
Thanks

  • Altering index unuseable from a different schema.

    I'm sure I'm overlooking something.
I was recently tasked with taking an existing ETL process that was in several different schemas and centralize it so the controlling procedures and functions are all in one schema, and the tables that are being loaded are in various schemas.
We're using a dirrect load, with insert (/* append*/) which is much fast than any other method we've found to load the tables. The trouble I'm having is in disabling the indexes. It's used to be that the procedure that altered the indexes was owned by the same schema that owned the indexes. That was working fine.
    So,
Schema 'A' owns the table and indexes.
Schema 'B' owns the procedure that will alter the indexes to set them to unuseable.
Schema B has been granted GRANT ALTER, INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE to all tables in Schema 'A'
I am logged in a Schema 'B' and I run the following command...
    ALTER INDEX A.PROC_DETAILS_ENC_ID_IDX UNUSABLE
    I get ....
    Index altered.
However if I run the same thing in a function, I get ...
ORA-01418: specified index does not exist
That seems odd to me that I can run it from toad, but not in a function?

PL/SQL does not like role-based privileges and tends to ignore them while running. Directly granted privileges are not so affected. Directly grant the privileges you want to the PL/SQL procedure owner.

  • Gtk Theme - Lack of Sepators makes it unuseable

    hi!
i installed this really nice gtk-theme 'Elegant Brit' (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show. … tent=74553) yesterday. it looks great, but has a big problem (in my eyes): there are no separators in the menu and in some applications. and this makes it unuseable for me. does anybody know how to fix this?

  • Getting error in OSB :: FATAL Alert:BAD_CERTIFICATE - A corrupt or unuseable certificate was received..

    Hi There,
am getting error when invoking a webservice from OSB .
"The invocation resulted in an error: FATAL Alert:BAD_CERTIFICATE - A corrupt or unuseable certificate was received..".
certs were loaded to the trust store and could see certificates in Trust store.
surprisingly, same webservice works from SOA BPEL and even from soapUI.
I even made Host Name verification to NONE... none of those helped.
your suggestions are very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Karthik.

  • FATAL Alert:BAD_CERTIFICATE - A corrupt or unuseable certificate was receiv

I am trying to invoke a third part web-service (EDC RAVE) through the Oracle Service Bus/Weblogic Server. However whenever I try to use a business service to connect I get the following error message:
The invocation resulted in an error: FATAL Alert:BAD_CERTIFICATE - A corrupt or unuseable certificate was received..
I have tried to add the certificate to the set of trusted demo certificates but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem. Does anyone know how to resolve the problem?
The only solution I have found is:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/webserv/trouble.html#1071057
    But I am using 10.3, not 8.1.

    Hi,
I am getting the same error while invoking a Rave webservice from ALSB or from a web application hosted on weblogic 10.3.
I have tried first two of the options below, still got the same execption:
    1) Disable host name verification ( never a pleasant thought )
    2) Write your own custom hostname verification
    3) Ask them to get a cert specific to their host ( with a CN of "someserver.mdsol.com, for instance ).
3rd one is not an option for us, as Medidata does not want to do any change in their setup or to obtain new certificate with CN specific to their host.
After troubleshooting for several days I am out of ideas. Would appreciate if someone helps me on this.
    Some further details:
The Rave server presents a wildcard certificate with CN as *.mdsol.com. I have imported all the certificates in the chain to the trust store.
Configured the trust store in weblogic and disabled host name verification.
I have enabled the ssl debug, when i invoke Rave webservice, getting the following errors :

Grab stopped working on mac 10.6.8 - cant find library/preferences, it is no longer in utilities - only the icon remains unuseable in the dock. Can anyone help?

Folks- I got After Effects to launch by installing OS X 10.8. I did not figure out the problem and am not certain it won't pop up again.

  • Unuseable AI CS6 delays with placed files

Anyone else having my problem. So now I feel like I am going backwards!
For years I have created files in AI which contain a number of placed .psd files. I have been upgrading AI without incident, but going from AI CS5.5 to AI CS6 is a disaster.
To open my files seems to take forever. To prove I wasn't going insane. I opened files from the same attached disk in the older version and they open just fine, yet opening those files in the CS6 version is unacceptable. If you wait a really long time they will open but what is the problem and how do I tell AI to not behave this bad way?
I have done all the usual fixes of clearing all the caches and rebooting, but it's always unuseable, so here I am.
I am on a MacPro3,1 Quad Core Intel Xeon, 8 GB RAM (I know I should install more).
    Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, and so long for now, TOM

    Hi Wade,
Thank you for the pointers. It's a shame that the link above goes to an article that only covers X.5, and not later versions of Mac OS. I am on X.6.8 and I am not sure if the command templates for Chown & Chmod are accurate. That didn't seem to solve the problem when I used Terminal on my back up partition to run those commands.
I did discover that if I use a new user (I have one set up for testing), CS6 AI worked OK and opened the file which takes over 5 minutes to open in my user account specific probem account in less than a minute.
So I sure wish there is something you can add that will help me solve the issue. I have deleted all CS6 AI Prefs and caches and cleared the font caches from the user account specific probem account. My computer is in tip top shape and I frequently Repair permissions, and verify my disk, and all seems well on that front.
I am now wondering if I totally reinstall CS6 AI and Update it if theat is worth the effort or not.
This is over 6 hours of troubleshooting and nothing much to show.
Thanks in advance, and so long for now, TOM

    Hi,
    Have you tried
    1.leaving the screen flipped open,
    2.connecting power
    3. connecting external monitor; waiting for it to 'wake up';
then 4. closing lid of MBP to activate clamshell mode?

  • When using JAWS 12 screen reader and Firefox 7, Firefox crashes or becomes unuseable when trying to upload to Blackboard.schoolcraft.edu or Schoolcraft.edu/exchange (MS Exchange Web Mail Outlook).

When I try to upload a file Firefox closes and I end up back on the desktop. Thiswill happen when I am in the edit box field when I have to give the file name if I hit any key other thaqn slecting the filename. Firefox also jumbs to unuseable screens at irregular times when I click on links within either program. This has happend when using XP, Vista, and Windows 7. I have a little better success if I go back and use JAWS 11, but still not like it worked so well with older versions of Firefox.

  • How do I delete an unuseable faded out book in iBooks?

I attempted to purchase a book in iBooks on my iPad Air.  it downloaded successfullly to my iPhone 5, but it's hard to read there and I really wanted it in my iPad.  The download to the iPad failed, leaving me with a faded cover of the book (In list view the title cover is desplayed and on the right there is a circle with a solid square).
I have been in  contact with iTunes technical support and after several emails back and forth, Jonathan from Tech support has arranged for me to get my money back.  That's fine.  But he was unable to suggest how to get rid of unuseable version on my iPad.
    Can anyone here help?

For some reason Apple have always inserted a blank page to the left of the cover page (on portrait books). It's not great but you can zoom in by pinching. And the latest version of iBooks (3.2) recently updated for iOS 7, has been designed to remove the border and view the pages in the whole of the screen.
Or if you've got a Mac, iBooks is now available in OSX Mavericks so you could view the book there.

  • 3G so slow internet is unuseable

I live in a coastal area where 3G is as good as it gets for the foreseeable future.  For the past three or four months, my internet speed has been so bad that it's unuseable.  I go to a news aggregator, click a headline to read and the links never open.  It's always been slow, like 28.8Kb modem slow, which is useable so long as sites don't have much in the way of graphics.  Not so any longer.  Thinking about it, I don't know why I even try.
I'm using a Galaxy SIII updated to Jellybean and am out of contract so am free to move to another provider but they all share towers here and I'm not sure I'd get any better service elsewhere.  Shouldn't I get a credit for against the fees I'm paying for data?  Anyone else ever try this with Verizon?

Hello CapZap,  Let's keep you cruising down the information superhighway!  May I ask the zip code where you primarily use the phone?  Have you run a speed test to get a better idea of the exact speeds you are seeing?  Is this only affecting the experience when using the web browser or through all apps that use data?  I would suggest clearing the cache and cookies in your web browser.  While in the browser press Menu>Settings>Privacy and security>Clear cache and Clear all cookie data.  Please test and let me know if the performance improves.
    Thank you,

  • Acrobat XI Pro Install via CCP Packager for Enterprise unuseable - tips for the unitiated

Well, after at least six weeks of trying to script and package Acrobat XI via the CCP packager for enterprise (Windows 7 X64) I have learnt many home truths which I thought I would share with the unitiated. This process, from the point of view of an IT admin who has to mass deploy this application to 680 PC's as part of an updated SOE has been the most painful scripting process I have ever found of any package (we successfully deploy Office, and Autodesk apps!). Not only that, but our entire State technical colleges have all purchased the same version. This will be affecting IT staff across a huge area, perhaps worldwide. Below are some some facts relating to this that I will share so others do not have to trawl the minefiled of dead-ends and confusion that is Adobe forums/official documentation. Apologies for not finding direct links to all of the below just yet but I've run out of time as we now have MANUALLY install Acrobat XI on all of these machines. When I get time I will post some of the links:
    Facts:
Acrobat XI and Lightroom are NOT "CC" packages. Therefore they rely on a spearate serial numbers to install standalone without another major Adobe product (eg Photoshop) to be installed and then run first. Otherwise they will run in trial mode. If your organistaion is wanting to install these products I highly recommend seeing if Adobe can provide you with these.
Without the use of serial number for Acrobat XI this almost renders the Customisation Wizard effectively useless, none of the silent install switch will work with "Offline Exception"
Yes, one Adobe employee notes that you must install a major package before Acrobat but as the aoplogies for not fixing this were posted last August, we are still in the quandry of not having any useable fix except for the ridiculous "Exceptions" file and Exceptions installer.
If you run the Build and/or execeptions msi's it installs Acrobat twice, gold Adobe, gold.
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6039529#6039529 - look at this for a working script for Photoshop etc, it's great. Thanks to http://forums.adobe.com/people/PetriRiihikallio for posting this. However, alas, it cannot silently install Acrobat correctly (thus far).
It appears that the msi builder for CCP for enterprise is fatally flawed. I have never had as much problem with installing msi's -  ever. For example, I have had to re-package the msi multiples times and many times simply running the msi will fail.
The idea that all major installs have to install the 32 bit version AND the 64 bit version is riduclous, enough said.
http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2013/02/acrobat-xi-deployment-guide-for-large-firms/ this guide may be useful for people who have been given a separate serial number.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/known-issues-acrobat-xi-reader.html another useful link
I think for the time being I have now wasted enough time trying to tear my hair out with this. I will be waiting for Adobe to announce Acrobat and Lightroom CC. this will enable the correct deployment of a single app without having the bloat my SOE with unnecessary applications that most staff rarely use. Ahhh, I love a good manual install via VNC/RDP, don't you?

Hi Waltpenner and others, yes it can be very confusing and writing script after script got me even more confused.
Now, the story continues, after 6+ hours on the phone with Adobe Support...
When you install Adobe Acrobat XI it asks you to install the C++ Redistributable package and this is where the msi will STOP INSTALLING. even though the MSI says "complete"
Now you think to yourself, OK, I'll write a script to install this msi package no problems, solved.
Nope, the msi for Acrobat Pro XI will Still Halt even if you write this into the script along with halt no err or something similar in your code.
    So what do you do?
When you create your msi in Cloud Packager, even though this feels completely against your better judgement tick the box under conflicting Process entitled "Ignore Conflicts and Continue installations" This will (finally) allow you to run the msi. Please see the wonderful deployment script above, which you may still need to edit to your needs (I did) - which I post once it's working perfectly.
You could then install the C++ redist from Microsoft at a later date ----> On that note however (thanks Microsoft for this gem) the Visual C++ redist is an msi for download, but it's actually a zip file calling an exe inside it. I suggest using the App Deploy Repackager  to help you change registry entries if you need to install this, but choose your favourite tool (and no I'm not talking about that work colleague you don't like
Note: You will need to install this for certain features of Acro Pro XI to function, most of which relates to sever functions of Acrobat. I will post the exact reasons when I find them. Under pressure to get this deployed, I have not deployed this pckage as yet. Also, I'm unsure how Visual C++ will affect other major apps across my enterprise just yet.
    Things to still consider
Acrobat still installs twice in the program directory (1.7GB nd 1.8GB respectively)
As all of the other CC packages are quite easy to install, Adobe needs to provide better service to it's enterprise customers by creating a proper version of Acrobat and Lightroom which is Acrobat CC and Lightroom CC, not version numbers tacked onto their new Cloud Service.
As for the above point I would still recommend creating the smallest msi packages you can, as large msi's that install a number of Apps (eg all of the web/image editing apps) take forever and quite often exhibit install errors
The amount of time I've spent on this is ridiculous, and we've had to package everything from Office to Autocad.
The amount of bandwidth I've chewed up is excessive, with package re-creation (download) of all the products probably about 100GB - however the ability to edit these packages with updates with the CCP is a good step forward.
Using the CCP through a proxy is horrendous, and complicated with the amount of exception through the servers you have to prvide (even then it rarely works).
The MSI packager still needs quite alot of work. As Petri states why he had to write a script like this when Adobe could have done the same thing is beyond him.
Adobe needs to trawl it's forum posts and take out the many false leads and dead ends provided by it's experts.
When I Think of anything else, or wite more scipts I'll let you all know.
    Cheers,

  • I feel like a sucker. I bought an iPAD2 at Fry's where I was told by the salesman that the non 3-G version does have GPS. It does not have GPS.  Is there any way I can use the GPS on my Iphone or Garmin to display in my new mostly unuseable iPad2?

Is there anyway to input a live, real time  video feed into an iPad2? I would like to use it as a remote monitor for a microscope camera in electrophysiology. Our camera was designed to run off of an older Mac via a firewire connection.  The camera is SUPERB but the computers are dated.  The older  computers connected to an AC line are  electrically noisy.  I have worked out converting the signal from our camera to HDMI and/or USB2 but the iPad2 will not allow any input except via iTunes which is not real time, and requires several steps. Is it possible to use the only mostly useless iPad2 as the excellent portable DC driven display which it is?!!!  How do I get Apple to say anything but IGNORE, IGNORE IGNORE.  This would be a universal application in academics and all I think I need is permission from the iPad2. The original signal was designed for Apple hardware. They can have the patents. HELP?

Your wifi-only iPad does not have GPS. Read the specs for your device.
