LR to PS makes images Red

Hi,
I've scoured forums and I've seen similar ones to mine, but I can never find a step-by-step instructions as to how to fix the issue.
My problem: I process my images in LR first, then I want to export to PSCS4 for additional processing.  When I do so, the image becomes oversatured and there is a consistent red cast (esp. in skin tones) that shows up particuarly bad on my wide gamut monitor: Lenovo L220x.  I would like the color to be consistent.  I have seen posts that say to enable all Color Management Policies in PS and I have done that and it does not work.  I have tried to recalibrate my monitor and that does not work.  Is there a step-by-step process/flowchart that can start me from the beginning and work through all the possible issues and solutions.  Any help would be great! Thank you.
My specs:
Macbook Pro
2nd monitor: lenovo 220x
i1display2 monitor calibrator

What are your color management policies in PS? This sounds as if you're assigning the wrong space to the image in PS. It should be set to always respect embedded profiles and to always ask on mismatches. Never choose "do not color manage" when you are asked, but always use the embedded profile or convert to the working space.
Lastly, did you calibrate both displays? Realize that Mac Book Pro displays are very narrow gamut. Much narrower even than sRGB and they are simply not able to display very saturated colors. What often happens in such cases is that you overcompensate the development on the MBP display driving it into clipping on that display, but the wide gamut external monitor can still display the correct color making it appear garish in comparison. Also, you should setup the display to NOT mirror. Mac OS X does not deal correctly with the color management if you do that. It will use the wrong monitor profile. Only when you turn off mirroring, or use only one display at a time (wake up the MBP with the display closed but an external monitor, mouse and keyboard attached), will you get the correct profile used. Lastly, you often need to restart Lightroom after changing monitor profiles, contrary to PS it will not pick up that it has changed until you restart the app.

  • Quick, easy ways to make images look better?

What are the best ways to make images look a bit better? I shot my footage using a pretty bad camera, so quality already isn't the greatest, but what is the best way to make images look a bit more "movie-like"? The 3way color correstion is nothing for me, it's too hard to make images look good, they'll quickly turn too yellow or red, etc... Something to improve contrast maybe? Using Image Control: Brightness and contrast (bezier) doesn't seem to help much.

Okay, I took a couple of screenshots:

Now I don't know alot about image quality or color, but I think there is not enough contrast? It all looks very cold. Luckily, image quality isn't the most important thing in this project, but it would be nice to be able to touch it up a little bit.

  • How do you make images transparent in inDesign?

How do you make images transparent in Adobe InDesign CS5.5?

    Dittco wrote:
It IS possible: Select the image. Open effects (Window > Effects). Switch from "normal" to "multiply". Viola! White background is gone.
That only works with a white background. In addition, it introduces a transparency effect, with its associated problems.
With a rather light background: Select the image. Open clipping path (Object > Clipping Path > Options). Select Type > Detect Edges; use Threshold and Tolerance to get as close as possible to the edge of your image. This may be difficult because of a too low resolution image, or too much fringe on the edge -- if all fails, use the Inset Frame value to force the mask "into" the image. Click OK, and the background is gone.
But that's not the only way: you can always create a clipping path manually, and then you are in total control, not limited by transparency side effects, auto-edge detection, and busy backgrounds.

  • HOW TO MAKE IMAGE TRANSPERANT

    Hello All,
I have two images one as background and another one is to
    place on background image.
Upper one I need transperant. How to write code to
    make image transperant?
    CAN ANY ONE HELP?
    Sharmila.

If you want to do on the fly image transparencies then you want to look in the java.awt.image package. There is are some pretty powerful image filters in here and after the initial learning curve, it isn't terribly complex to create your own image filters. For a school group project we created a logic puzzle game based on a shareware program alreay out there. The shareware program had a tileset format that we wanted to use in our application, but the transparencies weren't set up correctly. We ended up adding the transparencies on the fly. I wish I had the piece of code handy but I can remember enough to point you on the right path.
If you subclass java.awt.image.ImageFilter and override the two setPixels() methods, you can provide any manipulation you need to. Basically the image producer will pass in the pixels in one huge byte (or int) array top left to bottom right order. What we did, was get the color out of the first pixel and make that our transparency color. The byte method has two bits per color while the int method has 8 bits per pixel. The color is divided into r(ed), g(reen), b(lue), a(lpha) (I can't remember if alpha was first or last, a little expirimentation will tell you). The alpha is opaque at one extreme and fully transparent at the other extreme. Loop through the array and if the color is the same as your first pixel then set the alpha to 0 (or was it 15/255?).
    Good luck!

You make a listener to handle the mouse event that you want to capture, then program the affect you want using the event as the trigger.

But how do I get to store the images in MySql now that dreamweaver doesn't support BLOB and also how do I make dreamweaver pull the images from that database? PLZ somebody help

To pull the image from Database on to your page
    1. Open your php page
    2. put your cursor where you want the image to show on the page
    3. insert>image>Select File Name From: Data Sources>select record from recordset> click ok
    4. View in browser
In Mysyl the image was stored as a "longblob" type with "binary" attributes
but my system is Dreamweaver CS3.
Hope this helps. Let me know.

  • Create (Make) image Placeholder?

I know you can make an image a place holder in other apps like Pages, etc. Can you do so in iWeb? I can't seem to find anything about it.
    Thanks!

I can do that in iWeb to but from a different page. I guess iWeb doesn't have that feature "make image a placeholder" (yet).
The need or the feature comes when you have a picture perfectly placed, sized, and masked where you want it. I'd be nice to be able to just make that image the place holder rather than having to erase the old one, and then drop, mask, and size the new ones until you find the picture that works perfectly.
It really isn't a big deal with all the greatness and efficiency that iWeb offers! It is just such a great feature in pages and other apps it'd be great to implement it in iWeb too!
    Regardless, iWeb is AWESOME!!!!!

  • How can I automatically make images square?

I'd like to, using actions (preferable to scripts), automatically make images a square. Here's what I want to do (I'm on CC, so I have conditional actions available to me):
    (IF
([IMAGE SIZE] HEIGHT = [IMAGE SIZE] WIDTH),
       THEN
         (DO NOTHING/RUN UNRELATED ACTION),
       ELSE
         (IF
([IMAGE SIZE] HEIGHT > [IMAGE SIZE] WIDTH),
            THEN
([CANVAS SIZE] WIDTH = [CANVAS SIZE] HEIGHT),
            ELSE
([CANVAS SIZE] HEIGHT = [CANVAS SIZE] WIDTH)))
The way I was thinking I'd go about this is:
Have a conditional action for the first if statement (Called "Square")
Have a conditional action for the second if statement (Called "Square 2")
Have an action that does whatever I want it to do once the document is square (Called "BlahBlah")
Have an action that will bump Canvas Height up to Canvas Width if Canvas Width is bigger, and then does "BlahBlah" as part of the action (Or rather, will make a Landscape image square) (Called "Landscape")
Have an action that will bump Canvas Width up to Canvas Height if Canvas Height is bigger, and then does "BlahBlah" as part of the action (Or rather, will make a Portrait image square) (Called "Portrait")
"Square":     IF Document is Square, THEN PLAY ACTION "BlahBlah", ELSE PLAY ACTION "Square2"
"Square2":   IF Document is Landscape, THEN PLAY ACTION "Landscape", ELSE PLAY ACTION "Portrait"
    "Landscape": (Width > Height) Canvas Size -> Width = x, Height = y -> Width = x, Height = x
    "Portrait": (Height > Width) Canvas Size -> Width = x, Height = y -> Width = y, Height = y
"BlahBlah": Whatever I want it to do next
Is this possible with actions? If not, is it possible with Scripts? How would I go about doing that?
    Thanks in advance!

You may want to look at IrfanView freeware.
I can add canvas to square, resize, add watermark, and convert to jpg.

  • How do I make image backgrounds black and white while maintaining color in the foreground objects?

I have a close up close-up image of an orchid with blurred background.  I am trying to make the background black and white while maintaining the foreground color on the petals, buds and stems.  Any ideas?

Use the Blank & White Brick and either brush the effect onto the background or brush is away from the foreground.  "Detect Edges" will help control the edge of the mask.
You might be interested in knowing that you can brush on/away masks of different strengths, and thus produce effects in between 0% and 100%.
Search the forum -- there are several good posts detailing how to create this effect.

  • Disk Utility Problems - Can't make image or restore

I am having difficulty in making disk images & restoring using disk utility.
Issue 1 - Making an image of a DVD for the purpose of burning a copy (non commercial)
In DU I select the DVD in the sidebar, click new image DVD/CD master & save to desktop. The progress indicator reached about halfway & I get the following message: Unable to create "image name.cdr" - input/output error.
The source DVD in in the internal optical drive.
What causes this problem & can it be fixed? Why is the image .cdr not .dmg?
Can an image be made directly from a DVD?
As a workaround I used DU's restore function to copy the entire DVD contents to a free (27GB) partition on an internal HDD (not system disk) in the hope that I could make an image fron there. As soon as I clicked on restore both the DVD & target drive unmounted. After the progress bar reached 100% I got the following error message: Restore Failure. An error (5) occurred while copying. Input/output error
However if mounted in DU the partition has been renamed to the DVD name & the contents seem to be the same as the DVD.
    What is error 5?
I then created an image from this partition using DVD/CD-R master format which worked OK but created a 27GB image - too large to burn!
How can I make the image small enough to fit on a DVD-R?
Can an image be made directly from a DVD?
    Is this normal DU behaviour??
Once I get this right I plan to used DU to backup to an external HDD (I'm in the process of recovering from a drive failure and although I have most of my data back through partial backups & recovery like many before me I'm going to have better backups from now on!!)
    Any help would be apprecialted.
    Thanks in advance.
    John

It may be the the disc after all...
I'm still having the same problem, but I also discovered that I cannot get the install disc to get past the "spinning gear" stage when trying to start up with it, so yes, it's most definitely useless! My MacBook is still under warranty so I phoned Apple, and explained the problem and everything I did to ensure it wasn't hardware related. So they're sending me new install discs. I'm not 100% convinced yet that the problem is the install disc, but we'll see...my only doubt remains from the fact that I was able to make a disc image of it on my G4. That said...
I did a hardware test (long version, and everything is reportedly fine), played dvd movies, burned cd's, installed software from discs, etc, and it seems the drive is working fine, however, it could possibly be sensitive to even the slightest smudge or scratch (the install disc has a few very slight marks on it that shouldn't be a problem, and I cleaned it thoroughly). The only other time I had a problem was when I went to rip a song from a cd to iTunes where it hung and and then failed to complete the task. (The cd itself played without issue though.) I checked it for dirt/scratches: it had a couple of barely imperceptible smudges and one shallow scratch. I cleaned it, tried it again and iTunes was able to import from it after that. This remains the only time (so far) I've had a problem with a disc besides my install disc.
I want to be able to repair disk before I install 10.5.3, and back up everything, including the install discs. My Macbook came with 10.5.2 and except for this problem, everything's been working fine.
When I get my new install discs, I'll post how that went. They should arrive within a week or so.
DrHouseTF: I checked out your thread. I've never tried to make copies of game disks via DU, but maybe it's due to copy protection measures on the disc itself?

  • How do I make images of text searchable on a Mac?

I am downloading a lot of PDFs from the New York Times archives (c. 1855) for some historical research I'm doing.
I assume the Times has OCR'd their images of these old articles because the text is word-searchable online.
Here are my questions, in descending order of the elation they might evoke. (BTW, I'm on a Mac, running Leopard.)
    1. Is the OCR text somehow embedded in the downloaded PDFs and how would I discover and retrieve it, using Acrobat Pro 9?
    2. Would it be worth trying Acrobat's built-in OCR tools to make these images word-searchable? (Mid-19th century Times type is pretty wavy and clunky.)
    3. Given that Macs can now word-search closed documents' body text, can I at least put key words in text box notes or stickies on these PDFs, to help me find important passages? (I've tried both text boxes and stickies but neither worked.)
    Thanks.

For #1 — A PDF supports three OCR outputs. Searchable Image, Searchabel Image (Exact), or ClearScan. If an OCR output is with the NYT's PDFs I'd guess they are the first or the second. Either leaves a "layer" of hidden text.
To retrieve the hidden text you could use Acrobat's File > Export. Choose the output from the choices available.
For #2 — Sure, why not? Using a copy of a PDF give Searchable Image (Exact) a try.
For #3 — You could use Acrobat Pro's Commenting tools. For a "commented" PDF you can use the Comments List for viewing/sorting.
    Be well...

  • Batch process makes image resolution change to 72dpi - it should be 300dpi - Help!

In my work I use a batch process to run an action that converts EPS files to TIFF files. I have been using this successfully in Photoshop 7 on a Win2000 PC for a number of years. The process is as follows...
    Open EPS file
    Flatten Image
    Save
    Close
When I recorded the action I made sure that the resolution was set to 300dpi as we require the TIFF produced at the end to be that resolution.
I am now testing PSCS3 on a WinXP machine as we are upgrading all of our equipment. When I run the action as a batch process the TIFFs that are saved end up being 72dpi - They should be 300dpi. This worked in PS7 on the Win2000 machine and I am using exactly the same process in PSCS3 on the new WinXP machine, but something must be going wrong somewhere for the TIFFs to be saved at 72dpi instead of the required 300dpi. Any ideas?

That doesn't seem to work - it doesn't appear to record any changes I make in the 'Image Size' dialog.
When I look at the actions that I recorded in PS7 there are all the settings that I specified at the 'Open' step, such as 300dpi, greyscale, etc. saved under 'Open', but when I do the same in PSCS3 it doesn't record all the settings, just the actual 'Open' command, so I need to find a way of making PSCS3 remember '300dpi', 'greyscale', etc. within the 'Open' step like it did when I recorded the action using PS7.
