LvStorage.dll and Built application

Am running LV 8.0.1, and am created a TDM output file with some measurement results, then sending it to DIAdem using the LV-DIAdem Connectivity VIs.  I built the application and created an installer.  The install goes fine, but when I try to launch the .exe, the the application searches for "lvStorage.dll", which is an NI dll.  I have verified that the .dll is in the data folder that is created by the installer.
Any thoughts?  My workaround at this point is to install a second copy of the DLL in the Windows directory, which is not the best solution, but seems to get the job done.

I have the same problem with exe's.  The two choices I use are to store a copy of the dll into the same directory as the exe and to store a copy in the Windows\System32 directory.  Not very elegent since I don't like having copies of a dll in more than one place, but it works fine.  One thing I haven't tried yet is to changed the search path in labview so that the original path of the dll is amongst the search list.  But I don't think search paths carry over to exe's.  I wish the dll could be merged into the exe altogether.
The whole idea of the dll needs to be scrapped.  It was invented with the intention that the dll code could be reused to save hard drive space.  But it seems that every program has its own dll, and now there are millions of dll's all over the place.  I would rather the dll code just be imbedded into the exe.

  • Captivate 6 Errors: Missing file libwinpthread-1.dll  and The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) on Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
I have a problem with Captivate 6 installation on Windows Server 2008 R2. I have 2 different scenarios where I tested but the result is same.
1- I used AMEE (Application Manager Enterprise 3.1) to create the installation Package to deploy through SCCM 2012.
Notice that the current package works fine on Windows7 (x86 & x64) but not on 2008 R2 due to an error after I try to launch Captivate.exe application.
The error states that there's a Missing file: libwinpthread-1.dll and if I copy and made a registration of this .DLL file then it sends another error saying: The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) so it never let me launch the application.
2- Now if I install the package directly from the Original sources(CD) without creating any AMEE package after completing the installation I still have the same error about the DLL missing file.
Is there any fix or workaround to install Captivate 6 on Win2008 R2 ?
Thanks in advance & kind regards.

Wow, No replies so far !!
    Any one ??

  • How do rename the lvStorage.dll when creating an applcation?

When using the Open Storage(TDMS)VI  an lvStorage.dll is created in the data folder when building an application. I would like to rename the dll. How would I go about doing this? or how do i build the applicaion so i don't get the dll? When I create an application, I just want the Application.exe,Aliases file and configuration.ini
    I using Labview 8.5
    Thanks

Your application will stop working if you rename this file. The DLL is located based on it's file name, so your application would no longer be able to load it.
An application built in LabVIEW is more than just an EXE, for example it needs the LabVIEW Runtime Engine to be installed. In your case, it will also need the USI component installed. Both of them will go into \Program Files\National Instruments\Shared. You might be able to move lvStorage.dll by assigning it a different destination folder in your installer configuration, but you will need to make sure that it ends up in a folder that LabVIEW applications use when they look for dependencies. These folders are not the same on all machines, so that is a very error-prone thing to do.
What problem are you trying to solve by removing lvStorage.dll from your application folder?

  • I cannot use a notifier in a VI that was created by a built application

I have a first VI that creates a notifier and a second one that waits for data coming along this notifier which is standard and works very well. The problem starts when I take my first VI and build an application from it. When I run this application, my second VI cannot find the notifier any more but creates a new one. Still the names are the same and the application indicates a correct working notifier.
Now, is it impossible to communicate between VI and built application via notifier?

    Hi
You cannot communicate between different LV applications or LV programming environment using notifiers, because each application uses their own memory space. You can compare it with global variables. You cannot communicate between different LV applications with global variables. The reason is the same: different memory space.

  • How to install OS X and built-in applications on SSD on MacBook Pro 2012?

I'm considering replacing the hard drive on a newly purchased MBP 13" 2012 with a SSD myself.  How do I install the original OS X and built-in applications on the SSD?  Do SSDs have limited number of writes?  If so, what is its theoretical life?   Does this void the Apple warranty?  If so, then I'd wait until the warranty expires.

The problem is probably not the boot key, although that would be an option key.
Secondly, a1186 may refer to Mac Pro 1,x ; 2,x, or 3,x.    1,x and 2,x are only able to boot up to Mac OS X 10.7.5 natively.    That is the Machine ID in the System Profiler.    http://www.jabbawok.net/?p=47 explains how to install a newer OS than 10.7.5.
command-R only works with newer Macs than July 20, 2011 and older ones with the right firmware.   That's documented here:
Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery - Apple Support
As you'll see in that link, the Mac Pro is not among them.
Now you can install 10.6.3 retail on the Mac Pro, and 10.6.6 combo or 10.6.8 combo to upgrade to 10.7.5.     But you can't install 10.7 or later otherwise.
10.6.8 combo is needed for 10.8 or later if the Mac is officially supported on 10.8 or later.
Backup your data before installing anything.  And if you have older software, be sure to read this tip before proceeding, as a lot of software is only compatible with 10.6.8 and earlier:

  • Stand-Alone Application including ocx, dll and Word template folder

    Hi,
I try to create an Stand-Alone Application with labview 2011. My problem is how i can include ocx and dll file in my executable to be run by others computers (the other computer don't have the dll and the ocx using in the application). My program use Word template who is in a folder. How i can integrated this Template folder in my executable folder.

    Hi nki,
To include the ocx and dll files you will need to build an executable for your VI and then create an installer for the additional files. I have linked 2 documents that will explain each of these steps. If you have any questions with this let me know.

  • Optimizing built application performance in LV 2012 (and earlier)

There's a new help topic in the LabVIEW 2012 help called Optimizing Execution Speed for Built Applications.  If you're interested in the runtime performance of your built applications (EXEs, DLLs, etc.), I'd recommend taking a look.
Most of the steps apply to earlier versions of LabVIEW as well - just ignore the steps that mention the "compiler optimization threshold".

Null Refnum was passed in as input
when I try to run my built application, but it will run fine as a vi. I am using the Report Generation Toolkit with the Excel functions. I am opening an Excel template, adding data, and then printing. When I run the built application it looks like Excel is not opening up, but when I run the vi, I can see excel open and the report is sent out to the printer. I am running both the built application and the vi on the same computer.

I found a similar problem some month ago. I solved including in the application the excel vi's library, that you will find in the labview directory addons.
I hope this info will help you!

  • How do I stop Win7 from breaking my software? Ole32.dll and "Power" service suspected culprits.

Hello and thanks for any help with this.
I built a new computer for my aunt and her one major request is that she still be able to use her card maker software Creatacard (yes misspelled just like that) by American Greetings. I thought this would be no issue, I could give her a much faster machine
and get her off (the no longer supported) WindowsXP all at the same time by moving her to Windows7 and copying all her files over from the old PC to the new one.
I tested the software first on a test PC of mine and found it would not install in a 64bit environment (error message saying use 32bit during install) which I solved by using Windows7 32bit. It worked perfectly so I proceeded to build her machine thinking
that issue resolved. Problem is after the new rig was built and SP1 plus all windows updates were installed the Creatacard software would not load. I get an instant popup message saying "Creatacard Application File has stopped working" with the options
to "Check online for a solution..." and "Close the Program."
Checking online does nothing noticeable and close program doesn't help as every time you reload it fails immediately with the same message. Clicking on the "view problem details" drop menu reveals that this is an APPCRASH with the following clues
    Fault Module Name  ole32.dll
    Fault Module Version 6.1.7601.17514
I have researched and tried everything I could find online about this crash and none of it (up to and including completely re-installing Windows, systematically loading a few Win-updates and trying the app after each batch, editing the registry multiple
times, trying alt versions of ole32.dll, and using a Linux live CD to alter windows settings) has fixed the problem.  I have learned the following though:
When windows is first installed the card maker software (CMS from here on) works fine.
After windows updates itself and a few device drivers auto load (like when you first plug in a USB mouse or Flash drive) CMS breaks.
Loading windows normally after it is up to date always causes CMS to crash and give the above message.
When I perform a "clean boot" CMS works fine once again.
When I boot into safe mode CMS works fine.
Someone online suggested a service could be the actual problem and there being 140 of them I used the 50% method to quickly narrow the list and found that yes indeed windows services do appear to be related because if I don't allow the "Power"
service to run the CMS works perfectly. With a bit of testing to see what it does I found that it controlled wake/sleep settings, delay until your monitor goes dark etc and that if the Power service is disabled it remembers the last settings entered and I
thought GREAT! Finally after many days of frustration and being balked by nonsense I have a solution. My aunt will never use/miss the power settings I will set them up for her once and then kill that service and all is well for a Happy Holiday... (from my
research online some may already guess where this is headed)  until I went to play a video............ and there was no sound.
A little red X had appeared next to the speaker icon down in the system tray next to the clock and hovering over it gave a popup with "The Audio Service is not running." This is where the BS gets deep. I had of course NOT disabled the sound (Windows
Audio) service and a quick check showed it and all the services it depended on were in fact on and running. The Windows trouble shooter offered to fix the issue and so I let it run but it comes back with "one or more Audio service is not running"
and attempting to restart the service on its own came back with a "Not fixed" result. Now if I go to check dependencies for the "Power" it claims that no other services depend on it and it depends on nothing but that is an outright lie.
Further digging shows me the Power service's "path to executable" as...  C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k DcomLauncher and many other services show they depend on DcomLauncher to run.
Long extra trouble shooting session short here is where I am at. I can have the sound working or the CMS but not both.
Uninstalling and re-installing the sound card drivers didn't help (since sound is being stopped at the windows OS level) either.
As soon as I turn on the Power service and reboot the CMS breaks. As soon as I disable the Power service and reboot the CMS works perfectly but all audio breaks. Both of these are a deal breaker as she will not leave her old slow XP machine without her CMS
and I cannot give her a new machine that has no sound. Reboots take 30 seconds on this new PC so were it mine I could just live with it as the CMS has no sound and I don't need music playing when I am designing a Christmas card. Use the sound/power on 99%
of the time and disable them and reboot whenever I make a card and then enable and reboot when I am done. This would be over her head though I fear as she is a senior and not very tech savvy. My question then is...
Is there any way to have the CMS work while still keeping the Windows Audio service (and all the other not listed but still existing dependent services) running? Or alternatively is there something else I can do to the ole32.dll to make it stop the crash/error?
To be clear I would happily accept a system without the Power service running if (like it actually says under dependencies) nothing else other than the "Power Options" in Control Panel ceased to function.

Thanks Michael. Apologies for the slow reply I was away for a bit (holiday blitz at work and visiting family madness etc.etc.) back now, I set both options you requested to "never " and retried the CMS software with no change.
I do have progress of a sort though, as a test I took a separate test PC and put a clean install of Win7 on and loaded up the CMS software (it worked perfectly) and then took the version of ole32.dll off that machine and put it onto the computer I had built
    for her (using Linux) and...
got a new error code. Darn I was so sure I had found a clever solution this time lol.
Anyway now when the CMS fails it gives me a similar error but the offending module is "ntdll.dll" sooo... I tried taking the "working" version of ntdll.dll from the test box and moving it over (making sure to back up the existing ones
first so I could put them back if needed) to her new PC and the PC would not boot.
It seems to want the original versions of a few Dynamic Link Libraries and if I could somehow give it those while not breaking Win7 it should theoretically work seeing as it no longer errors with ole32.dll.
ntdll.dll however seems necessary for Win7 to boot.
So what I am wondering now is:
Is there some way to have both versions of the DLL file in the system32 folder (bypassing the "cannot have two files with the exact same name in the same folder" thing) or rename the original DLL's something else and somehow make the CMS look for
the new named versions so the system has the updated DLL's it needs to boot/run and the CMS has the old ones it wants to run or is there someway to have a self contained install of the CMS, say on a USB flash drive and give it it's own E:/windows/system32/needed
dll's  path to the files it needs?
Willing to try any other options or settings you may have come up with as well.
Thanks again for your reply and my apologies for not answering sooner.

  • Lvrt.dll error in application

Hi, I have built an application from my development PC and I am running it on a target PC. The application crashes regulary on the target PC, within 20 min. Windows displays an error measage that states that lvrt.dll caused the failure. I have been searhing the forum for answers, and found other people with the same problem, however there were no clear solutions to the problem. Does anyone have a solution?
    My labview version is 8.5.
My hardware is a CompactDAQ chasis, with modules 9472, 9265, 9205. Moreover I am reading out temperatures from an Agilent 34970A though a GPIB interface.
    With kind regards,
    Jesper

I too have been experiencing this problem, only with 8.2.  I have
a built application that crashes semi-randomly on my development
    machine - XP blames LVRT.DLL.  I bundled the 8.2 LVRT.DLL into my
build as suggested, that didn't help.  The application thus far is
just a fairly complicated GUI with no hardware being addressed (yet)
and no external libraries being called (yet).
    Insight, anyone?
    Thanx.

    Hi Greg,
Thank you for your response too.
Yes, I must have 32 bit RTE for running 32 bit DLL.
And also I do want to have 32 bit DLL only (& not 64 bit one).
To explain, let me propose the following case.
I have a C# created (built in 32 bit mode for x86) parent EXE .
I have C# created (built in 32 bit mode for x86) child DLL.
The child DLL gets called successfully by parent EXE. In all 4 possible OS combinations. ie. 32bitWinXP,64bitWinXP,32bitWin64,64bitWin64.
    But..
When I create a 32 bit DLL from 32 bit LabVIEW on XP32bit,
it never gives me success to be called by 32 bit C# parent in 64bitWinXP, 32bitWin7, 64bitWin7.
I am aware that I must not create 64bit DLL, becasue my C# EXE is built in 32 bit (& That's how it must be to be able to run in all 4 OS combinations).
    Below is my thread

  • Don't include USER32.DLL in built application

    Hello,
I would like to avoid including USER32.DLL in the installer for my built application. I am using several Windows API functions from USER32.DLL, and as soon as I select the top-level VI, an entry for USER32.DLL shows up if I click the "Files" button on the "Installer Settings" tab. I want to just use the local version of the DLL once it's installed.
I'm using another windows DLL, and it somehow isn't getting included - I think because in the "Call Library Function" configuration dialog there is no path, just the file name. If I try to delete the path from my calls to USER32.DLL (i.e. delete "C:\WINNT\System32\"), it automatically re-appears once I close and reopen the dialog box. I've also tried using just "USER32.*", but the path still gets added automatically.
    Any ideas?
    TIA,
    Jaegen

    Waldemar,
Thank you very much for your insight.
This is a very interesting/intriguing problem ... Please bear with me as I try to describe it:
It seems that LV is treating DLLs exactly as it would a sub-VI. Once one VI which uses a DLL is loaded into memory, all other VIs which use a DLL with the same name, regardless of the path used, use the same DLL. I was trying to delete the path in one VI, while other VIs with the path were in memory. Therefore, as soon as I clicked OK, LV just went ahead and added the path again. However, if I loaded the VIs separately, I was able to delete the path. I was tipped off when I did this with only one sub-VI, then loaded the top-level VI and was presented with the warning that "USER32.DLL" was actually found at "C:\WINNT\system32\USER32.DLL" for the VI I had changed.
Now of course the problem arose as to how I delete the path for a DLL call when the VI has two separate calls to the same DLL (i.e. if I delete the path for one, while the other still has the path, it won't be deleted). I had to mangle the name in one call ("C:\WINNT\system32\xUSER32.DLL"), delete the path in the other ("USER32.DLL"), then delete the path in the first. Likewise, when one VI with a call to the DLL uses a sub-VI which also calls the DLL, I had to go through this process with all the calls in all the VIs.
I hope I'm making sense. I was able to eventually get the paths permanently deleted from every call, and "USER32.DLL" no longer appears when I go to build an executable.
I'm not sure if this is a bug per se. I'm not sure what else LV could do, other than display a warning dialog when you click OK on the DLL config dialog. However, it would be nice if the application builder allowed DLLs to not be included (even if it thinks they need to be).
By the way, I did work out a very interesting work-around for this before realizing the details I described above: I included a batch file in the installer, which I called using the "Run executable after installation" option, which cd'ed to the install path, deleted USER32.DLL, then deleted itself (I didn't know this was possible until now).
I did however discover a bug in the application builder help documentation:
On the page titled "Advanced Installer Settings Dialog Box (Windows, Professional System Only)", the "- Executable" paragraph states "The file must be one of the files that you install in the Installer directory you selected in the Installer Settings tab." This is not the case. It should read:
"The file must be one of the files copied to the *Install Directory* using the "Installation Destination Settings" dialog. (Click the "Files..." button on the "Installer Settings" tab)."
Note "Install Directory", not "Installer directory".
Hopefully this all makes sense and is informative.
    Cheers,
    Jaegen

  • After updating to 10.10.2, my OpenGL applications do not work, and there are problems with window updates/refresh in App Store, and many applications, Google Chrome is unusable.

After performing the OS X 10.10.2 update, OpenGL applications, for example Starry Night Pro fail to run, there are numerous windows update/refresh problems (incomplete refresh, remnants of window/frame borders), and some applications, for example Google Chrome are unusable, as cursor motion in the application window causes the display to flash horizontal bars in the window.
I've tried a variety of things, including downloading the most current release of Xcode, turning on/off transparency in Accessibility, graphics switching, and a few other things, but the problem persists.
The App Store display behaves similarly.  I am running a MacBook Pro.

  • New HD, HD cable, and re-installed OS, and several applications not cooperating: what to do?

    MacBook Pro mid/late 2009, 13", 10.6.8
    Hi, all.
Thanks in advance to all who can point me in the right direction!
Although this (may) sounds like a software issue at the outset, I have been directed to this (OSX 10.6) forum.  [My original post is under the iLife/iPhoto forum and the thread is titled "iPhoto 8.1.2 doesn't work after reinstalled the OS 10.6.8?".  If you are interested to see a couple brief comments of what others have had to say, check it out.]
In short, I have two applications (Mail and my precious iPhoto) that give a lengthy "Problem Report" when I attempt to open them, and two applications (Launchpad and Notes) that tell me I can't run the application with this version of mac OS.  I have attempted to re-install Mail and iPhoto with no success and I have re-installed the OS (10.6 disc, 10.6.3 disc, and Software Update's 10.6.8) with no progress towards fixing Mail and iPhoto.
    Here is the story:
iPhoto will not open and gives the error message ("Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Mac OS X.......")--as does Mail.  (On another note, Launchpad and Notes, when attempting to open, give a me a, "You can't use this version of the application Launchpad with this version of Mac OSX.  You have 10.6.8.  The app requires 10.7 or later."  Although, I do not use Launchpad or Notes, it would be nice to have all applications working again.)
I have tried reinstalling iPhoto (carefully, i.e., removing the old app and pkg files) with no luck.  Note that in this case, I am using an iLife disc.
Hardware story:  My computer had a plethora or issues several months ago--eventually not booting--I left it alone for a couple months while using a friend's computer in the interim.  Eventually I had my laptop diagnosed as a having a bad HD.  I replaced it myself (upgrading to a Western Digital, 7200 rpm and 750 GB).  I had to troubleshoot when it came time to erase the new HD and ended up replacing the HD cable--then my computer was up and running (thus, although I have not checked experimentally, my old HD may actually have been OK all along).
Software story: I reinstalled my OS (10.6 from disc, 10.6.3 from disc, 10.6.8 using Software Update).  Then restored using the most recent Time Machine backup prior to my computer initially having "a plethora of problems"--TM backup from external HD.  If you've read all this, you are now caught up.  My computer boots like a charm, Firefox works, Microsoft Office applications work, even iTunes works.  But my precious iPhoto, Mail, and a couple other applications will not cooperate.
Here is the "Problem Report for iPhoto" minus all of the lines below "Binary images" (Note that the Problem Report when attempting to open Mail is more or less the same, e.g., the Dyld Error Message is the same):

  • Xcontrol does not work in built application

I can't seem to get my custom xcontrol to work in the final built application.  It works perfectly fine when the top-level .vi is started from the development environment.  But all I get is the broken control image when I run the built application.  Is there something I'm missing in the build definition?
I tried puting the thermometer xcontrol example into a built application and everything works fine.  The build definition only included the top-level file, so I don't think it's a problem with support/dynamic files...
By the way, is there some trick to maintaining these xcontrols?  I love the concept, but man they are a pain in the butt to work with.  One wrong move in the project manager and they're messed up for life.  I finally learned to back everything up on a regular basis so I wouldn't lose everything if it one decided to go psycho on me.
    TIA,
    Greg

I've got it working now, but I'm going about it in a round-about way.  My application has (had) a splash-screen/launcher vi that dynamically loads and launches the actual top-level user-interface vi.  The top-level vi was included in the build definition as a dynamic file.  This is the ONLY dynamic call in the entire application.  All other vi are called the normal way on the wiring diagram.  I could never get the xcontrol to work this way.  I even tried including ALL of the relevant files as dynamic/support file and could never get it to work.  In one experiment, I placed an xcontrol on the top-level vi (the top-level vi doesn't have any of the xcontrols, only a couple dialog-box sub-vis that it calls).  Again, everything worked fine from the development environment.  But, when compiled, the top-level vi would fail to start completely.  I never bothered to check what the execution state of the top-level vi was before I called it, but I assume it was "bad" so the dynamic call would fail.
I got it working by eliminating the dynamic call and calling the top-level vi as a normal sub-vi from the wiring diagram.  BUT, it still had problems and would always ask me to find a couple files from the 'XControlSupport.lvlib', specifically 'Action.ctl' and 'Container State.ctl'.  The xcontrol also uses the standard 'eventkey.ctl' from the 'event_ctls.llb' and it would ask me to find this file every time as well.  I tried including the libraries in the project and including these libraries in the build as dynamic/support files, but still no good.  To fix the problem, I copied these files into my project folder, specifically included them in my project, and then replaced all of the controls wherever they appeared with the corresponding controls included within the project.
