M & N keys--technical malfunction??

After keeping my phone on the charger all night, my phone began to function very slow this morning. After taking the battery out and in a couple times, the phone would no longer turn on. Now that the phone has turned on, it appears that the "n" and "m" keys on my keypad are being held down somehow (though this is impossible), and I can't use any of the basic features on my phone because of it (can't make a call, etc.) Please help asap! 

That's it then, the sticker won't show pink or red, but these device keyboards are quite sensitive to steam and moisture.
Keep the battery out and don't place it back in, AT ALL, even to "check" it.
Place the device in a box or bag of dry rice for three days. You could place it also on top of a heat emitting electrical component like a tube television or computer CRT or a  cable converter box.

    If sweat is the cause as you seem to think then it would suggest a hardware fault rather than software.
    I suggest you take/send your N95 to your nearest Nokia Care Point for evaluation.

    Is there a possibility to switch off in Firefox the functionality of quick launch key (additional key in laptop) that cause to run the homepage. I would like to switch this functionality off, because the key is malfunctioned and always pressed. I was able to switch off the functionality of this key in Windows system by deleting entries in registry Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey. After this change, when somebody works in system the Firefox is not running is not launching all the time. But when I open the Firefox the setting in system is overwritten and when I am using it Firefox returns to the homepage instantly. I think because of this quick launch button. I tried to change settings in about:config like browser.startup.homepage, browser.startup.homepage_override, startup.homepage_override_url,… this is for Firefox version is 10.0.2

    This internet button key is one of buttons located above the keyboard near the power button. What I have achieved to this moment was to stop it functionality in the system by clearing the entries in the fields Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\17\ShellExecute and entry

    After these changes in registry the behavior of the button was suppressed, the Firefox stopped to start unexpectedly all the time – so in system it works. But the problem is still when I have opened Firefox. Every time when you want to surf in internet – the homepage is activated also unexpectedly. I wrote this post with intention to ask if there is a possibility to switch off the functionality of this quick launch button in Firefox. Because I assume Firefox overrides the system setup – this I have made in registry. I tried with some option changes in about:config but without success. And I know that for older versions of firefox was some option in about:config do disable_quick launch button. But in 10.0.2 I couldn't locate it.

  • Technical Spec Template

    Hi everyone,
    Does anyone have a 'real life' template for an XI technical specification I.e. one that they have used (and understood) in the real world. I've got a copy of the suggested template from the Roadmap but quite frankly it looks more like a documentation exercise (one created after the development has been done) rather than a mechanism for conveying the technical design to the developer.
    Functional spec template (XI oriented) would also be appreciated.

  • What is the technical 'cause' of the infamous iMac black screen problem?

    Can anybody shed some light on what technical malfunction exactly causes the infamous iMac black screen problem? The common solution seems to be a logic board replacement. But what exactly is broken on the logic board? Is it the Geforce chip? Some kind of external driver circuitry? Or something completely different?

    In specific I am referring to machines where all of this applies:
    - internal monitor stays black after power-on
    - computer boots normally
    - external display works normally
    - internal display backlight works and can be adjusted in brightness, but all pixels are black
    - PRAM reset doesn't help
    - NVRAM reset doesn't help
    - PMU reset doesn't help
    - reinstalling OS / booting from CD doesn't help
    - machines with this problem sent to repair come back with a replaced logic board
    I'm looking for more information on the technical cause of the exact problem as stated above. So I can attempt to repair my iMac

  • Faulty Keyboard Key?

    Barely 2 weeks old and i've noticed the "Question Mark, Forward Slash" key is
    malfunctioning. While the other keys have a soft muted click to the touch this
    particular key does not, more of a mushy feel and it sometimes take a bit more pressure in order to render the charcters related to this key.
    Any ever have a problem like this and can it be fixed at a local apple store?
    Would hate to be without it for a week or more.

    Hi Eric,
    I believe the keyboard is part/attached to the top casing of your MBP so if it needs to be replaced i think you will be without computer for a few days. If they order in the part and you keep your MBP while they wait for it's arrival they should be able to replace it in one day once it's in.
    This is... if they will replace/fix it.
    For a 3 grand machine you may expect everything to work flawless and comfortable so i would go back and ask for a replacement
    Maybe it's just a matter of replacing that single key, they should be able to do that on site while you wait.

  • Right Arrow Key Dead

    Recently I've noticed my right arrow key is no longer working. I also have a USB keyboard and all works fine so on that so I assume this is a hardware failure.
    Am I going to need a whole new keyboard, or is it possible to repair the one key?
    Does anyone know of any issues or common faults to check before I make enquiries on a new keyboard?

    Are you under warranty? If so, it is Apple's problem. If not, it's possible a little debris has collected under the keycap and is causing the key to malfunction. It should be possible to pull off the keycap and check. I have done this on my iBook, but never on my MBP. If you have access to an Apple Store, you could see if someone at the genius bar could show you how to remove the keycap and check under it.
    Testing with an external USB keyboard is exactly the right thing to do. It demonstrates that the problem lies with the built in keyboard.
    Are you planning to do the work yourself? If so, here is a site that might be useful to you:

    It doesn't cover everything, but you can at least get an idea of what might be involved in a repair. But again, if you're under warranty, let Apple do it.

  • Keyboad malfunction

    I am using HP Mini 210 1070NR since las 2 and a half year.
    Just today I noticed some malfunctions with the keyboard, they are:
    Whenever I press spacebar the cursor goes to the end of the line.
    Whenever I press enter while typing the page goes down as in Page Down.
    I am suspecting one of my key might be stuck in pressed condition, but can not figure out which one.
    I have used USB keyboard and the problem was not there, so I suspect this is NOT an OS issue.

    Enter has become "Enter + Page Down"
    Spacebar has become "Space + End"
    Down Arrow has become "Down + Right Arrow"
    Up Arrow has become "Up + Left Arrow"
    '\' has become '\ + Home'

  • N95 8G's keys are terribly clicky

    I don't mean the software beep, I mean the physical click. Is there any way to reduce the noise? It's embarrassing to try to quently send a message on a meeting and get everyone's attention.

    My keyboard on my computer keeps switching to using symbols as I'm typing. I've gone through and changed/reset/etc the keyboard, text, and language settings. I've tried to figure out if a key is stuck, but couldn't find one. I've disabled function keys to check if that affects anything, it does not. The keys will eventually, spontaneously switch back to normal (with or without my troubleshooting). It keeps switching back and forth without rhyme or reason. I eventually linked a wireless keyboard, which types correctly- even when my computer keyboard does not- so I figure it must be a technical malfunction of somekind. Using this other keyboard permanently would be fine, except it is not my own and I am traveling abroad while working from my computer.
    Please help guide me to a solution!

    You may just have to take it into your local Apple Store and have them run diagnostics. Some applications will let you type diacritical marks if you hold down, for example, the a and e keys, but that doesn't seem if that's what you're experiencing.
    If you've already fooled around with Language & test, Input Sources, etc., then it's likely a hardware malfunction.

  • Battery - charging or discharging?

    like many on here I have been effected by much reduced battery life following the upgrade to 3.1 and 3.1.2 - mine sits on charge for most of the day and so it doesn’t really effect me, however I do use my phone at night as a Night stand clock sitting in a charging dock. Night stand and similar apps allow you to keep the phone running i.e. no auto shut down and I have regularly recently woken in the early hours to a phone showing no battery life, despite it sitting in the charging dock it the icon showing it was charging.
    I took the advice of another user on here and loaded an app called “system activity monitor” - this showed me that despite my phone saying it was charging on the icon the battery was actually discharging rather than charging, even when at say 50% power. The "discharging / charging" display keeps swapping on irregular intervals and I am just posting this topic to see if others have experienced similar issues. It seems very strange that the phone thinks it’s charging when it actually isn’t. - surely this must drain batteries. Also despite the discharging/charging problem I found that if I switch email to “manual” then I get through the night with 50% power remaining – last might I swapped back to Push and the battery was dead in about 4 hours – and that’s despite the phone being in airplane mode - Something with Push is clearly not right to drain the battery so quickly, especially when I had assumed if I was airplane mode the push would be automatically disabled!

    I have an identical issue to the one described by the IBM page - failure to charge, and sudden shutdowns, meaning I can only run with the battery removed and AC connected. I am aware the IBM replacement programme finished in 2008. What does that mean for me now? I understand that batteries are consumables, but this seems a specific technical malfunction.
    If I buy a new battery, will I experience the same issues or have new batteries had their hardware corrected for this problem.

  • I cant believe the treatment im getting!

    It seems that fairness in merchandise sales is a thing of the past. That overchargeing and bait and switch is just pure common place anymore. I was at the Best Buy in Bristol Va. picking out a few things for a cumputer system that I was putting together. I was picking up a keyboard and a mouse. I had checked them out on line before I took the nearly 50 mile drive to the closest BB store in my area. I found the mouse I had wanted in store for $109.00 but had pointed out to the salesman that it is online for $99.00, he said no sweet, he would price match. Ok, I then asked him to look up the keyboard I was interested in. He did and we found it for the $210.00 price that I was expecting to see from BB. I said to him that I was interested in a laptop as well but had some concerns about the listing. See it said in the front page listing it had 2 gb of video memory, yet in the details it said it was backed by 4 gb of gddr5 dedicated video memory. This laptop is on sale for $1199.00. So I saked him which one was it? 2GB or 4GB? I was in the market to sell the one I had and upgrade to a new one. If I found one I liked. He looked it up, did some questioning to the rest of the people in the store and comes back with it has 4 gigs of SDDR5 dedicated memory. So I looked the specks over well, made a call right there in the store to a person who wanted to buy mine and made the deal to sell mine and told the salesman if it has 4 gb I wanted it, if it only has 2 I didnt that I would go with something elese. We ordered the keyboard and the laptop. at this time it is now closeing and the light are starting to go dim in the store. He says no problem we can still do it. Earlier before we checked on the computer I had asked what was the financing deals that was being offered on laptops and 2 salesmen told me 18 mo. which was the way I was going to make all this happen. It comes time to sign and I am hit with 12 mo no interest at signing. I ask wait I was not interested in 12 mo, I was doing the math on 18 mo. He reassured me that it would be 18 when the bill came in or I could go into my account and change it to 18 mo. I have never heard of this kind of thing. But Best Buy has alway, for the most of it been pretty straight with me in the past, So i signed. I went home thinking all was well, then at home I looked at the reciept to check why things seemed a little too high on the sum. But it seems you always feel that way till you look it over. However, I then see that the computer has cost me $1299.00, The keyboard has cost me $219.99, and the mouse has cost me $109.99. Every piece has been over charged. Ok, I call customer service and let them know about it the next day. They fix the computer but not the rest. Now about a week later I get a message it has arrived. since then I am looking up this laptop and I see that a lot of these are saying 2 gb of sddr5. So I travel the 50 miles to pick this up and when I do I ask them to check the system for the amount of video ram because I will not be happy with 2GB when the biggest reason I picked this one was for the 4GB of ram. I explain that it is 50 miles one way for me and i dont want to have to drive right back over to return it if I know I wont be happy with it first off over the missing vram. The tech comes back and says it has 2GB in it. I then say that I was told it had 4GB during the inital sale that in this case I did not want the system. He then says he must be checking the intell side of the graphics that he needed to check again. He then comes back reporting it does have 4 GB dedicated on the Nvidia card and shows me a screen print that shows total video memory 4096 mb. So I said I wanted it. They fixed the price on the keyboard and mouse reasured me I would get the 18 mo financing and I am on my way. Ok it seems like all is well now. I get home and I think I really like the system and I want to now see for myself the 4 GB. I bring up the screen and find the printout he showed me of 4096 mb total video memory. but just under it after you scroll down it says 2048 physical dedicated memory on the gtx 860 and 2048 shared memory. Wow this is killing me. Seriously? this guy just got through explaining to me how much school he has had for this job. Did he miss it? Did he just want to finalize the sale? what? I sleep on it. Do I keep it or not? I have sold mine to make this happen. But I have been through this same kind of thing with the last one I bought from you all and I didnt say anything. But this time I have went out of my way to make sure I was suposed to get the right amount. So I call them up and I ask to speak to someone who can make a desision on the matter. I like the computer and wouldnt mind to keep it but I have clearly paid for 4 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory and have only recieved 2GB. I got with the one in charge and explained it all to him and told him what It was reading and where it was from and offered to do a screen capture of the system showing the statement on the memory. I also explained to him the drive I would have to make just to show it to him. His reply is he cant verify what I am telling him without seeing it that all records show that I have recieved a system with 4 GB of video and that I am mistaking, or maybe that you just cant see the extra 2GB of dedicated ram untill you really need it and I havent really needed it yet. What? I reassured him that I understood the differance in dedicated and shared memory and that there is a lot of software out that just tests these type of cards to let you know exactly what you have. All I was asking was something to be worked out on the price back to pay back for the memory I did not get yet clearly paid for, because he said himself there is 2 versions of this machine one with 2 GB and one with 4GB. If I was reading it right, that I must have got the wrong one. See for me now, I will have to travel back to the store @ 50 miles each way, return the system, then when the next one comes in go back over to get it for another 50 miles each way. another 200 miles over your mistake, not mine. Give me a break. I guess i will just return and buy from tiger direct. if they create a problem, they will pay for return shipping and fix it. Also I have contacted customer service again and they say there is no such place to change the financal agreement to 18 mo. Just what is going on with you all.

     Hello Alex-BBy, Thank you for the rundown on the issue with the financing. I do understan that online you can look under the financing offers and find the info you referred to. I have been with you for many years. I love Best Buy and the way you have treated me in the past. I understand the way your banking system work very clearly. Its just that I was in your store and at least two people told me that it was 18 month no interest before I even made the order up. The extra 6 mo is why I went ahead and opted for the upgrade in the first place. I felt I could take the money I got for mine after selling it by phone and put with this one then devide that by at least 17 and get the sum I must pay to make my finances work. It was right at closing time so I really did not have the time to go through and second guess every detail that the salesmen were telling. I have never really had to do that with you in the past. I did not even think it t be nessasary. I went so far as to tell the salesman, when the signing came up 12 Mo instead of 18. That I would not do it at 12 Mo. See that changed everthing for me. I am on a very fixed income and for me little things like this matter. Useing your store and its offeres is why I can own nice electronics. And I do appreceate that. But he explained that this was common and they have been through it several times and I would be able to change it after my first statement came in. I really need to be able to trust your people in these matters. The last time I called them on the matter at the store, They still assured me that I would be able to make the change. I was hoping that was final. I guess not.
    As for the answer I got from AWBrown, see the reply I sent him. I also have been back to the store las night, another 50 miles one way, just to power this up and show them that the system does not in fact have 4GB of dedicated Ram. Only 2GB. And I have to say I was somewhat confused by the speed in which the conflict turned from you got what you paid for, 4GB ram and we know it, to you knew you cant buy a 4 GB card laptop for the amount you paid for this. Which is not a accurate statment because you are selling others for this price with 3 GB. How would I know.
     Again, I have sold my usual system just before I ordered this one in the store. While in the store. I now I was waiting for over a week for this o ne. Now my hands are kind of tied. I wasnt to happy with their fix of simple return and start over. They dont keep the kind of system I am interested in stock. So then we were looking at another week or so and then who knows what with that one, because as the top guy told me over there. You were looking at the overview, you cant go by the overviews. Yet the overviews is exactly what the sales people go by when they are finding you the system you want. And to that he agreed. I cant trust what your website says the product is and I cant trust what your salesmen tell me. This is very disapointing to me. I like in ta area that everyone here trust me to help with their computer problems. And more times then you would believe I hand walk them into one of your stores and help them pick out a laptop on the fly from the only place I would sudjest to do buissness with. I educate them on your financeing agreement so they can get what they want and help them apply for credit through you to get the deal. I do this at least three times a yr. This was how I was able to sell mine while in your store. Someone called me asking about one and I asked the salesman what the offers were and went through with it. All doing the math on 18 mo.
     At first the only thing they would do for me was to refund and reorder. Would not consider all this has done to put me out mileage or anything. Said they would get all their money back with MSI. didnt seem to care about my losses. yet was sorry. Itwasnt till I said fine then send it to them and do me a refund and I would not re buy from them as they was sure I would. Even then they insisted on continueing to look for a MSI with four gig. I had to tell them they again wasnt listening to refund and we wer done. I wouldnt re-order with them. And then it was like a dark vail was lifted from the conversation, no longer did everthing I say just get a funny look like the words were in Greek, They suddenly seem to make since to them. He did some new actions and came back with the offer of $75. off for the missing ram, But that was the absolut best he could do. I said no I was tired of the treatment that it sould be at least 10% off. He then agreed to give me $100.00 off for the missing ram. Yes, now they even are argueing that it is a 2GB system and that is what it is suposed to be. I agreed to keep it at the adjusted price for the missing memory. But they could have easily have let me sent them a screenshot of the systhem showing the same thing it did in the store and saved me a nights travel, wear and tear and fuel, with dinner out.
