Mac App Store forum

Where is it? I looked under "Mac OS X Technologies" forum and the "Applications" group.

Just submitted feedback to make the Mac App Store part of the Apple Store online at http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/software?mco=OTY2ODQyOQ

Nor is it hidden in the iTunes Store.

  • HT204266 Mac app store

Hello. When i try to download or update app's from app store on my mac, there is a message box with the following text-" We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (4)"
    any idea?

This would not seem to be an issue with iPhone hardware, which is the subject of this forum. I'd suggest asking in the Mac OS X 10.7 forum or the Mac App Store forum.
    Regards.

  • Unable to login in to Mac App Store using valid account.

I recently inherited a spare MacBook Air from my wife (who got a new one). I deleted her user account, and set up a new admin user account for me. The machine is running 10.7.5.
Now, I am absolutely unable to login to the App Store. I am using my valid Apple ID -- for example, the same Apple ID that I used to gain access to this very forum. System Preferences accepts my ID. iTunes accepts my ID. BUT the App Store will aboslutely NOT respond. It will not load. I get the red "connection failed" alert, and then after several tries it doesn't respond at all.
It doesn't give any option to switch users -- perhaps once the original owner has used the App Store, the computer will never again allow anyone else to use it? It doesn't say that there is another user logged in. There appears to be no way of deleting and reinastalling the App Store. There is no cache file I can find to be cleared. There is no preference option. There is no information. There appears to be no way of fixing this at all, short of wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. Is that what I have to do? WHY IS THIS SO HORRIBLY DESIGNED? And why is there no support short of the forum? I hate this about Apple (despite being a long-time Apple evangelist and OSX devotee).
    Thanks.

The first thing you should do after acquiring a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, it should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.

  • My Mid-2011 Macbook Air becomes extremely hot when installing apps from the Mac App Store and when deleting apps

My Mid-2011 Macbook Air 13-inch (OSX 10.8.1 Mountain Lion) becomes hot to the touch when trying to delete large documents, watching videos after waking it from sleep-mode and when installing applications from the Mac App Store. This has also been happening with OSX Lion before I upgraded it to Mountain Lion.

What needed to be done the day that you set up the new Mac was go into the Mac App Store (MAS), sign into your iTunes/MAS Apple ID, go to the Purchases pane and Accept the iLife apps that would have been there in a special section. That would have sent you Mac's unique identifier code to Apple's servers and verified that this Mac was eligible for the bundled iLife suite and then registered these apps into your MAS account.
You might try going to  ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist, delete the adption plist, restart the Mac and then go to the Purchaes pane and see if you can Accept the apps into your account.

  • How can i gift an app in the mac app store ?

hi,, I see that i can gift an app in the ios store, but cannot do the same in the mac app store ? ... is this feature not available yet ?. if not, when will it be available ?

You can use iTunes gift cards in the App Store. I don't think Apple supports "gifting" of apps as yet and we wouldn't know when they may do this in the future. This is a user to user forum, not Apple.

  • Updates tab in Mac App Store stopped working.

I don't have time to test all of these to find out for sure which one it may be, so I thought I'd post it here in case someone might already know the answer. I disabled and removed a bunch of features from my iMac running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and one of these caused the Updates section of the Mac App Store to stop working and return the error "The App Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." Anybody know what might be causing this? Thanks, and please don't bother asking why I would do any of this, that doesn't help. This isn't a complete list of things I changed but I've narrowed it to one/some of these.

  • Your computer could not be verified Mac App Store and FaceTime

    Hi All
I've been trying through several forums for a long time to find a solution for my problem before giving up, I'll go down to the point:
I have an iMac Intel 20" early 2008 (I can provide more detailed specs when required). I am using Mac OSX Lion installed from a usb and prior used Snow Leopard. They problem has been consistent thru all versions, same symptoms, same all.
    1. Whenever I try to login to Mac App Store I get the famous: "your computer could not be verified, please contact support for assistance". FaceTime also does not login, promptying a "server error, try later".
    2. Contacted support, and after 16 emails back and forth all I was told at the end was: "I am able to log in into your mac app store account from this side after resetting your account,is there anything I can do for you today".... (!!!!????)
    3. There has been a problem parallel to that, and although I am not sure they are related anyhow I need to point it out. My ethernet port stopped working and there is no way to create any connection through it. I can still use wireless quite well (reason why I still keep my machine). After sending the machine to repairs, diagnose was that it could be a problem on the logic board and to fix it may require to replace LB entirely. So I decided not to go for it and keep the machine only with wireless connection.
So I have tried every single solution found (so far...) on google and forums to no avail: a) deleting .plist, b) resetting network configs and creating new locations, c) resetting PRAMs (not sure if it solve anything, but tried anyway) and others. The problem still persists with the same symptoms.
I can login into iTunes store and buy applications from computer, iPhone and iPad, which makes me think that my credentials are valid, alas, I logged into this forum using them.
I also tried creating a new account at App Store, when I request it through the Application, the "little fan that advises you to wait" appears, but suddenly dissapear with no warning or message at all (!!!!????). It is like you never requested anything in first place.
Obviously I can still use my machine for internet and stuff, but my ability to purchase/use any Apple software is seriously restricted. I cannot purchase any software anymore if AppStore is going to be the main way to acquire it (which I think it will).
    So, my big questions are:
    1) Is this hardware problem (ethernet, logic board, connection ports) remotely related to the machine authentication process when using MacApp Store and FaceTime through Apple?
    2) Is there a way to fix this through software, before I consider replacing the machine? (Please take into account that I have already tried TS1811, deleting .plist files, resetting network, creating new locations from scratch... I basically searched thoroughly on google, forums and tips and tried all reasonable found recommendations before posting).
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Livia and Huevoos (eggs??) for your interest in this post.
In a nutshell, I haven't been able to solve this. I gave up on Apple support after they proved useless.
As Huevoos suggested, and I confirmed it time and again after browsing thru endless forums, it seems that the user validation routine for the Mac App Store is done by looking into your network settings, which in my case are either incomplete or erroneous due to the broken-down ethernet. (I am still waiting for somebody more experienced in this forum to contradict or explain this).
So, because I still have wireless connection, I can use my machine for day-to-day chores, have not been able to purchase anything up to this date in the Mac App Store though. I'm waiting for either a software update that could correct this (Mountain Lion??? there's no guarantee only hope) or the moment when my machine will need to be replaced by a new one with a functional ethernet.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help. But I'm pretty much in the same situation as you guys.
    Live long and prosper.

  • How do I install camera raw updates to the mac app store version of elements 10

In the mac app store version of Elements 10 there is 'get updates' link on the help menu. And when I try to do it manually from a download I get a message telling me that 'this update no applicable'.

Once again,  Apple only provides support for purchasing issues, not with using software purchased via the app store, any more than staples will give you tech support for a boxed version you buy from them:
The Mac App Store handles the download, installation, licensing, and updating of all products purchased through it. If you encounter an issue with an Adobe product during one of these four processes, visit http://www.apple.com/support.
For all other issues, including program errors and how to questions, visithttp://www.adobe.com/support.
Apple only provides support for problems with updates released via the app store and adobe has NEVER bothered to issue updates anything offered through the app store, so you can't get any help from apple for this.
It's more complicated to install ACR in the app store version. You have to do it manually. See this thread:

  • Can't open NEF from Nikon 1V1 in PS Elements 10 from Mac App store

I have the PSE 10 in the Mac App store version. NEF files from my Nikon D700 opens fine. The NEF files from my Nikon 1V1 don't.

Well, the thing with the app store version is that apple doesn't let developers set things up to update any way except through the app store (i.e, a whole new version every time, which adobe probably doesn't care to do just to update acr). You will need to update ACR manually. The directions are in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4106477
That's for an older version, but you do it the same way for newer ones. You can just install the plug-in itself, if you don't mind not having the lens profiles, etc.

  • Can't login to Mac App store on mac mini. Is it because my ethernet port is fried?

    Hi
like many others, I am unable to log in to the mac app store on my mac mini.  I get the error message saying "An unknown error has occured". I believe the ethernet port is damaged after an electrical storm, but I can still get online wirelessly.  I've read on these forums that the app store verifys the account using the ethernet port.  Can anybody confirm if this is the case, is there a workaround that anyone knows of?
I can log into the App store on my laptop fine, just not the mac mini.
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

This is happening on 2 of my machines.  One is OSX Lion, the other OSX Mountain Lion.  My personal rig works just fine - all on the same network, all with the same basic configuration.  All can log in and out of iTunes, but the two servers can't login via Appstore. My rig and one of the servers even use the same Ethernet driver, so it's not that.
I would seriously doubt your Ethernet card would be working at all if it was indeed damaged by the lightning.  The transducers are relatively sensitive, and it would either fry or not.  You won't get "intermittent" operation as you have described.  Here is a list of all the things I've tried (based on a number of forum suggestions), none of which has worked:
    1) Sign out of itunes, sign back in, try to sign in to AppStore.
    2) Re-enter information in  your account info and save it again (knew that wasn't it but tried anyway).
    3) Ran AppStore as root.
    4) Using EFIStudio, I got the hex string ID of my ethernet card and specifically reference "device-properties" in the boot.plist.  Others  have said this works, so you might give it a try -
    http://legacy.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=169&t=28477
    5) Deleted all other ethernet devices to avoid "confusion" of the return.
    6) Verified I can get HTTPS returned from NAT device.
    7) Used Wireshark to get a packet capture of it working on mine and not working on the other.  On the one that doesn't work, all I get is a couple of SYNs to the appstore and then nothing.  It was along these lines that I was hoping the "device-properties" would work.
I just thought of something though.  If I don't see that ACK at all, it might be sending the packets somewhere else.  hmmm.  I'm going to hard-code in all HTTPS to be routed to that box and try it just for S&G.
    Good luck!

  • How can I get credit in Mac App Store for software installed from CD?

So I have purchased iLife '11 and iWork '09 disks.  I have had them installed on my MacBook Pro since 2010.  The Mac App Store has happily been updating the all the apps for as long as I can remember.  However, the MAS doesn't recognize the iLife and iWork apps as INSTALLED.  I tried a "fix" to drop a MAS receipt into the individual app's Packages, and it did change the MAS to show them as INSTALLED.  However, to test whether the MAS really saw them as something I had purchased and could then reinstall, I deleted the Numbers app.
Now the MAS shows me needing to spend the $20 to get Numbers back.  I know I could just dig out the DVD and install it again.
I am thinking of wiping my MBP drive and doing a clean install of Mountain Lion and am just trying to make sure I don't have to buy apps again, and am trying to get around re-installing from original DVDs and going through major time upgrading them through the MAS.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

You cannot get the MAS to recognize the iLife or iWork apps installed from disc and update them. These are two different versions of the apps. Falsifying the disc versions with copies of MAS receipts from other apps will not accomplish this, as it cannot be done. The apps from disc are updated through Software Update until they are at the end of their road. At that point you would need to purchase paid upgrades through the MAS.

  • Mac app store update indicated as installed

The Mac App Store tells me there's an update available for one of my applications, however, the install button is disabled and indicates that the new version of the app is already installed. The version number of the app (About...) shows v120...., the update in the App Store shows v121, so there's something available, it seems.
How can i either download the update, or get rid of the update indication in the App Store?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Drag & drop the app into the Trash. Don't empty the Trash. Try updating the app. The MAS should now download the latest version to your Mac. If the app updates successfully, you can empty the Trash.
