Mac Drive: What internal or external drives can I 'see' from OSX or Bootcamp?

Hi All,
I am having a bit of a hard time trying to finalize my port over to macintosh and I am hoping someone can help me understand what I should be able to "see" from where I can see this on my network. I would like to move some data temporarily OFF an external hard drive and ONTO the Internal Drive #1 temporarily so I can use this External Drive for another purpose. But again I can't figure out if I should see this External Drive (C below) and be able to move it to this internal BootCamp drive (#1 below).
I have MacDrive installed on all Windows installs and have the following in my MacPro:
1. 1TB HD with Windows 7 BootCamp
2. 500 GB with Windows XP BootCamp
3. 1 TB with Snow Leopard and Windows 7 via Paralells (I WORK HERE REGULARLY)
outside the machine I have:
A. 2 TB Time Capsule via Ethernet to the MacPro (that actually backs up the Laptop Machine wirelessly)
B. 2 TB Western Digital (that backs up the MacPro drive 3 that I work off and store my data)
C. Various External drives that I plug into the MacPro via USB
Is it possible to get a handle on whether I need to actually boot into the Window 7 BootCamp Internal HD in order to move this data to this drive and whether I should be able to see this Boot Camp Drive from within OSX? I mean, can I move the data from the Mac Formatted External Drives to the Boot Camp Drive without booting into Boot Camp? Can I see these Mac Formatted Externals from Boot Camp (assuming I have Mac Drive Installed?
Should I expect to see the Time Capsule from the Boot Camp drives?!
Thanks for any help

OK, you are half way there...
The MacDrive software allows the Windows side to read and write to the MacOS partition.  You are correct, there is a Paragon software you could have purchased for about the same price.  Six of one, half a dozen of the other.  Both products work well.  For some things one may be slightly better than the other,  but either should work fine for what you want.  With this, you should be set when you boot into WIndows using BootCamp.
As I said, you are half way there.  Now you want your MacOS to be able to read and write to your WIndow 7 boot partition.  By default, MacOS can read from teh Windows drive, but can't write to it.  You have a couple of options to try here.  If you do a google search, there was a method to get unsupported read and write access using the native driver with your MacOS that worked for the older versions of OS-X.  I don't know if it still works for Lion or not,  but it might be worth a test.  There is NTFS-3G that you can get for free.  I seem to recall some people had priblems with it when Lion was first released, but I imagine those issues have probably been addressed by now.  There is the option of buying commercial software for this as well.  Here there is another Paragon package that you can but which works very well.  It give you the full read and write access to your Windows drive, and it hasn't had any problems on Lion for me.  Unless you use one of these methods (or something else I haven't mentioned) you will not be able to write to your Windows boot drive when you are running MacOS.  You will be able to read from the drve, just not write to it.

There really isn't any workaround to the cost. You can't get the parts needed to fix it yourself. Only Apple has those parts and they do not sell them to end users.
Sure you could take it apart and clean everything and the screen might start working again but then it might not. Depending on what cause it to stop working in the first place. Like something got shorted out.

I'm sorry to be so incredibly dense. The article to which you linked says:
"If the computer is already authorized, the item plays. If the computer has not yet been authorized, iTunes asks you to enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the song."
I can play songs from my husband's library. I can't drag them into my library.
If deauthorizing/authorizing is the solution, who needs to do what? We've got three computers and two iTunes accounts.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.
    Good luck & happy computing!

How can I see from my contact who use iphone (ios 5) for contact with imessage?

Well, let take the personal service point of view : let say, I had two calendars on my iCloud account : one for work, one for my leisure activities.
On my MacBook Pro that I use at home as well as at my office, I would want the two calendars to show and since I am alone in my office, I would want the alerts for both my work and my leisure activities to show (and make a sound at the same time).
But on my iPad that I only use at home, I would only want my leisure activities alerts to show (and make a sound) and on my iPhone that I only use for work, I would only want my work alerts to show (and make a sound).
That is a personal service that simply does not work.
Why would Apple give us the opportunity to hide some calendars on certain devices but not allow us, on these same devices, to switch off the alerts linked to these calendars that we have chosen to hide ? Why having alerts of calendars that do not even show on these devices ?
And I am an Apple fan since 1984, since the very first Mac. I still do believe Macs and Apple devices and/or software (iOS, OS X and others...) are much better and much more efficient than " Microsoft, Windows, Google and other Android devices and software.
But that does not mean everything's perfect (and I find that quite normal).
Nevertheless, in this case, letting alerts make a sound on a device where a specific calendar is not shown, that does not make any sense : when uncheking those calendars, the alerts linked to those calendars should be automatically switch off (but alerts should be able to work on the calendars that are shown.)

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, it's already running the newest OS it can.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, follow the Core Duo instructions, open the Mac App Store, and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If you get told it's incompatible, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.

  • Windows Easy Transfer (WET) Issues with External Hard Drive - "Can't read from the source file or disk"

I work for Office Depot, in the tech department. Basically, one of our associates was supposed to do a data backup, and re-install Windows 7, then transfer the files back. He used Windows Easy Transfer and compacted everything into a 163 GB file.
Now comes the hard part. When we try to put it back on his computer ((drag-and-drop to the desktop) which has been wiped back to factory settings using the recovery partition), it stops at 79.5 GB remaining (you know how it doesn't give you a % of completion,
it just shows how many GB are remaining) and then says "Can't read from the source file or disk" and gives you an option to try again, or cancel. It gets hung up on the same point each time.
Normally, this wouldn't be a huge issue, but the contents on the drive are his wife's architect blueprints and interior design stuff, along with wedding photos, etc, which are the only copies they have. On top of those, they have court documents and other
important files that we are unable to access now.
I wasn't involved with this transfer, so I'm trying to clean up the mess as best I can. I remembered that the customer's wife was Russian, and had some files typed with a Russian keyboard, so on and so forth. I wonder if that's the issue? If not, I really
have no idea how to manually extract things from a ".mig" file, or how to diagnose what area is potentially corrupted.
In light of this situation, we tried using "Recuva" to recover the files post-wipe, but everything was corrupted or unable to be opened, and it also extracted and recovered all of the "useless" photos, such as the skype logos, up and
down arrows for browsers, etc (it was 160,000+ photos).
Trying to avoid a potential lawsuit, unhappy customer, and costing the company lots of money to see if professionals can get into this external hard drive.
    Other relevant information:
We used a Toshiba 500 GB (465 GB) external hard drive.
Customer's computer is an HP Pavilion P6000 Series (Model No. p6520y) running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1.
Any other information that is needed can be provided, thanks in advance, and hopefully we can find a solution to this issue quickly!

I think there's a lack of understanding somewhere.
"If you even can't start the process, please unplug it from your new PC. Then head back to your new computer and plug
the external drive back in to your new computer. "
Unplug from new, head back to new, plug it back in? That doesn't make much sense! Haha.
I knew what you meant though, somewhat. When I search through the drives after clicking yes (Has windows easy transfer
already saved your files blah blah blah) I click on the transfer file and it says "Windows Easy Transfer could not open the file".
Rather than drag-and-drop the file to the desktop, I now tried to double-click on the file itself while it was plugged
into the computer. It opened, and it started transferring until it was about 70% completed, and then an error popped up saying "WET can't open the easy transfer file, make sure your USB device is plugged in or check your internet connection".
I checked, and the USB hard drive's light wasn't on. Now, I unplug it and plug it back in, and the light comes back on,
so I click Retry, and it resets the bar back to nothing and says "Transfer time: 1 minute".
Rather than continue trying, I clicked "Cancel" instead of Retry, and it says "Your transfer did not complete successfully."
It says to click "view report" for more information, but there's no "view report button".
At the moment, I am scanning the External Drive for bad sectors using the check disk tool in properties. It's frozen
    at "0 USN bytes processed".

  • Help! Router repartitioned my drive, can't see my data!

I think I've lost about a TB worth of data. I'm rebulding a computer and had my hard drive, a Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB, in an external enclosure so that I could access files from it until I could move them to a new drive. I just happened to hook the drive up to the USB port on my new Linksys EA3500 router and now I can't see anything. I believe the process of plugging the drive in, allowed the router to mess with the partition table of my drive. Before, when things worked I saw three logical drives. one of about 50-75 MB of reserved space. One of about 80 GB that was my original system drive and one of about 920 GB that was my main data drive. All of these were NTFS. Now when I look at the drive, all I see is one drive FAT32 drive of about 71 MB.
If I look at the drive under Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management, I see the drive is made up of a 71 MB FAT 32 Primary Partition and a 932 GB Unallocated partition.
Am I totally screwed? Is my data still there and is there any way for me to access it or any utilities I can use to get to my data in this unallocated partition? What the heck did this thing do to my drive without permission?!
Help! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks in advance.
    - Byron Followell

Yes, I did, and no, I could not see any of my files.
Luckily I purchased recovery software, GetDataBack, many years ago. I downloaded the current version for NTFS and after several hours of scanning, am able to view most of my data from within the program but I can see nothing directly from Windows. I have a couple of days of very inconvenient and very time-consuming recovery ahead of me.
Hopefully I will be able to get most, if not all, of my files back.
Now my concern is, what the heck did my router do to my drive that caused this in the first place? Even if it wasn't compatible, how could it just repartition/corrupt my drive this way?

  • PowerBook G4 With New Hard Drive - Can't boot from 10.2 OS Install Disk

My sister's hard drive died so I bought and installed a new Seagate 160GB drive. She has OS 10.2 OS disks but is not sure if they were for this computer. The fact that the computer is copyright 2004, and the disks 2002 makes me wonder. When I try to boot with the 10.2 disk, I never see the drive icon when I'm booting up. Holding keys results in:
Option - Return Arrow and Next Arrow, no drive icons
T - With attached USB DVD drive - only get the strange floating Y with the circle in the middle
None - just the folder and ?
    I've also reset the PRAM.
Are these the right disks? If so, is there something else I need to do to have the computer recognize the CD when booting up?
The disks are white with the Jaguar(?) spotted X. The only text on them say Mac OS X v10.2/Install disk 1; Not for Resale; Version 10.2/2Z691-3706-A; the Mac and Apple logos and the copyright 2002 notice.

    Hi, kjfrey55 -
Typically the OS version that a machine originally shipped with is the minimum OS version it can use.
Based on info from the s/n you gave, your machine is a PowerBook G4 (15 inch) model, with an estimated ship date of Aug '04.
That model originally shipped with OSX 10.3.3. It can not use OSX 10.2.
It can use a retail OSX Panther disk set provided that the version on it is OSX 10.3.4 or higher (if those exist).
It can also use a retail OSX 10.4 (Tiger) disk set.
You may be able to get a replacement original disk set for it from Apple's Customer Service -

  • Can itunes run from a personal cloud drive, can itunes run from a personal cloud drive

can itunes run from a personal cloud drive?   I currently have my Itunes  media files stored on an external drive because it is over 1.5GB with movies.  Does anyone have experience with a WD My Book Live wireles cloud storage device?    I would love to not to have to always be in the same room as my storage device
    Thanks

It will work if it's used as a network drive which contains your iTunes library in the same way your external does now. Although it will demand more from your network than your current configuration does but shouldn't be a problem if your network is working correctly.

  • Consolidated Library to new drive can't see with iTunes

I added a new HD and moved the music per the instructions. Worked fine, then I moved "My Documents" folder w/XP to the new drive and it moved the iTunes folder (which your not supposed to do). Now it can't see the songs in the library even though the songs are in location specified under preferences. XP had copied over iTunes folder to new drive, I tried to re-create correct path on original drive and move folder back, but it still doesn't work. I have the "iTunes Music Library" and "iTunes Library" (data) files. How can I get iTunes to see the library again?

First you have to let the new itunes installation know where the songs are, on your new PC.
Second, you have to play at least a few seconds of a purchased track so the new PC will get authorized.
How did you move your music over to the new PC? Did you move the itunes library database file over, also?

  • After update to Snow Leopard, I can no longer print from my Mac Book using my HP D110 but can still print from the web

    Hello -
Earlier this week, I updated my Mac Book to Snow Leopard and am now having printing problems. I have an HP Photosmart D110. I have downloaded and installed the driver update. I have deleted and re-installed the printer. I have run the wireless network test (everything passed). I configured th settings on the HP EPrint website. I have shut down and re-started the computer several times. I checked for software updates.
The printer is *recognized* on the Mac Book, iPhone and the iPad. It shows up under the SysPref menu. I have been able to print coupons from the Coupons.com app using the iPhone and iPad, but I can't print from the computer itself. The printer icon opens and it indicates the document was sent but nothing comes out. I'm not sure what I'm missing?!

Also try powering the printer off for about 10 minutes.

  • New Mac OS Server on network, Windows box can't see other Macs anymore

I just put a Mac mini server on my network and the only services I have enabled are SMB, AFP and Open Directory. Before I put the server on the network (and if I turn the server off) the Windows 7 Pro machine I have on the network used to be able to see the rest of the Macs on the network in the Network section... I could see them, log on to one, grab files, etc. This also went for the Macs seeing the PC on the network in the Finder. Now that I have the server on the network though, I can't see the PC on my Macs and can't see my Macs on the PC. I can, however, do a "Map network drive" on the PC and enter an address to one of the Macs and connect that way. Anyone know why this could be happening?
Like I said, if I turn the server off or disconnect it from the network, the Macs will see the PC and the PC will see the Macs, but once its back on the network, they stop seeing each other, so its definitely something the server is doing that's causing it.
    TIA

Confirm you have unique addresses and unique host names for the IP host names on your network. In absolute specifics, make absolutely certain your Mac OS X Server box is not configured at a conflicting address, or with a host name that conflicts with the Windows 7 box or with some other central and critical network resource such as your firewall or an IP router.
It's also possible you've got (for instance) a bad cable or a bad NIC and that's jamming up your network, though that's less likely.
Your Mac OS X Server box requires DNS be configured locally, or within your network.
Confirm unique host names. Confirm unique IP addresses. You can launch Terminal.app and use the dig command at the bash shell (+dig -x 192.168.1.1+ with whatever the local address, and +ping 192.168.1.1+ again with the local address and not with the 192.168.1.1 value shown, and +dig hostname.example.com+ or such for your domain name) or (if you're not comfortable in bash -- do go learn bash, regardless) then you can use the Network Utility in the Applications > Utilities folder.
It's also possible there's a problem with the managed switch configuration or such, but that probably isn't in use here.

The file sits on the Server in the C:\TEMP folder and the error log ends up in the C:\TEMP folder
I have tried several variations on this, but still same error. However, then I also tried these exact same scripts on another Oracle box, and it worked fine. So something with the machine/box I am using is not alright.

Yeah, OK, I can see an arbitary number for CPU used since session startup (what does that refer to by the way? It can't be percent), and I can see that one user has consumed massive amounts of CPU compared to all other sessions, but he is currently not running anything, so how can I see which SQL he ran in the past day that cuased all that CPU consumption? Can I do this without AWR?
By the way, do you need a Diagnostic Pack license for simply viewing the Performance tab of dbconsole? I Can go into dbconsole and see history for 2 days back and see the massive espike that caused CPU consumption, but when dbconsole displays the list of top SQL and top sessions under the graph, is it the top listed SQL that consumed the most cpu or do you need to correlate the colours, i.e. find the SQL listed in top SQL that has the same colour as CPU usage on the graph (green) even if it is not listed as the top "consumer" (which I assume means top AAS consumer: overall consumption of all resources)?
