Mac Exe File Graphic Freezes

This is an odd problem. Most of the time I work with Windows
projects and don't have significant problems, but I have tried to
publish my projects for demonstration purposes on my MAC Powerbook,
and when I have attempted this it runs fine for about 10 seconds
then the graphic seems to jump to the first Multiple Choice
question, though the audio continues on, until the first point at
which an interaction would be required. No interaction is possible
on the screen except on the navigation bar, which allows me to
continue the audio, but the graphic remains frozen. Does anyone
have any bright ideas on this one?
Thanks,
W. Keith

The reason, why I take "waitfor" is,
I have to know when the called programm is finish,
because the next step in my program depends
what the called program produces.
Is there any other possiblity how to handle this problem,
so that I know, if "called executable program quit" do "something"
otherwise wait.

  • How to open and play .exe file in Mac?

I am a new Mac user from of course Windows. I have a CD product catalogue which comes in a .exe format. There seemed no way that I can view the contents in Mac.
Does anyone have any solution for this?
    Any help is most appreciate

As Thomas A Reed points out, an exe file is a windows application. I don't know why a product catalog would be in an exe file but I suppose it's possible. It seems more likely that the exe file is an application that either downloads the catalog or opens and displays a disk file containing the catalog; in the latter case you may already have the actual product catalog on your disk drive. Your might try using Spotlight to search for files with names containing key words related to your product catalog name. You also could use Spotlight to search file contents for key words you may recall from the catalog contents. Finally, is this possible: Use your old Windows PC or borrow one and run your "product catalog." While it is running, check for an option to export the information you need to a file in a format (say, text) that is readable on your Mac.

  • How do I install Netgear XE102 on my iMac?  It will not install off of the cd provided it appears to be only for Windows based computers.  Checked Netgear website and could not find a setup.exe file for Mac.

That means either no software needs to be installed on a Mac or the product is incompatible with Macs. Contact NetGear tech support for help.

  • How to run .exe files with Virtual PC for Mac

Hey Guys, I'm new around here and with mac technology as well. Anyway, I have an iMac OS X 10.5.1 Leopard and I've recently purchased the Virtual PC for Mac 7.0.2 software. So I'd like to know how to use this program properly, because I need to run some executable files in my computer. It is confusing for me because I don't know how to get started, and I only get to the part when it says "OS not found, Install an OS on this hard drive".
Honestly I've no idea of what an OS is or where do I get that. So I'd really appreciate if one of you guys could tell me, step by step, what to do to use Virtual PC properly, and finally learn how to run .exe files on mac.
    Thanks in advance!
    Have a nice day!

Always nice to see new faces
Honestly I've no idea of what an OS is or where do I get that.
This brings up the second part of your problem. The first part is setting up either a proper Virtual Machine program like Parallels or VMfusion, or setting up a Boot Camp partition on your drive.
    http://www.parallels.com/
    http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
OS stands for Operating System. You are running Leopard 10.5.7 as an operating system on your Mac (MacOS X).
The second part of your problem - You will need a copy of Windows XP or Vista if you want to run Windows on your Mac.
There is at least one other solution for running Windows programs on a Mac. It's called "CrossOver" by a company named 'Codeweavers'. It's based on a project for "Wine" to be able to run PC programs on a Mac or Linux, without having to buy or install Windows. It works with a narrow subset of Windows programs so you would want to make sure the program you want to run is compatible with CrossOver before you buy it.
    http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
In addition to all the above information, you need to upgrade your Mac to the latest 10.5.7 from 10.5.1. "Software Update" is located under the black Apple icon in the Menu Bar at the top left corner of your monitor. After you are updated you will want to update your Profile here so that it shows the proper OS version.
With your level of experience with MacOS X and the Windows OS's you should probably get some help from a local Apple store. They have an appointment system and do offer many types of help and training, and they can offer assistance with choosing the proper programs for you to purchase for your machine.
You are also welcome to continue to ask questions here, of course. You will want to ask your questions with different issues that come up in different threads so that the answers stay focused on the title of the thread.

A .exe file is a Windows executable. OS X does not run Windows programs. If you need to use .exe files then you will need to install Windows on your Mac:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

I am sorry. I had the false impression that it was commonly known that .exe files did not run on Mac OSX natively and failed to see any constructive critique you were bringing. Maybe I am wrong. Again deepest apologies.
Unfortunately... these days... not every one is aware of this .exe  fact..

  • Opening exe files on a Mac (OS X mountain lion)

    Hello,
I need to open exe files on my Macbook pro currently on the OS X Mountain Lion. I can't figure out how to open them, I know there are ways but I cant seem to find one that works. I would prefer one that is COMPLETELY free. Please respond ASAP!
    Thanks!

Well, if is a not to complex application that doesn't need a lot of resources, you may be lucky and be able to create a Mac version by encapsulating it in WINE with WineBottler: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/
Beware, Mac & Windows savvyness required. Not Plug & Play. But it IS free....

  • I bought windows 8 from the Microsoft store. How do I download it on my mac to burn on a dvd as it is an exe file?

    Hello,
I just bought Windows 8 and have now got a downloadable link with a product key. How can I download it on my mac so I can burn it on a DVD to start the Bootcamp? When I press to download, it wont as it is an exe file. I tried to download it on a windows computer so I can burn it but it asked to input the Product key, so was quite weary as it might have registred windows on that laptop.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

mine was an exe too but it's an upgrade from windows7
so one had to install windows7 and then run the exe file from there
not sure if you also bougth an upgrade if so then you need a win7 too

  • Opening exe files on mac

I have downloaded .exe files, but do not know which application to open the file with.
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
    Saima

Hi Saima. Just as Lyssa mentioned, files with an .exe extension are applications that can only be opened on Windows based computers. If you can let us know what kind of applications you downloaded, we could maybe point you in the direction of similar Mac compatible programs.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers!

  • Intel Macs and .exe files

I have a modem I got from Verizon for use with Verizon DSL. A check at the site of the modem's manufacturer reveals that this modem was made exclusively for Verizon and there are no links to support, etc., for the modem at the manufacturer's website (Westell Versalink 327).
On the DSLReports site, I learned that newer software for my modem is available and that I ought to install it. Of course, it is available only as a .exe file, which I have downloaded to my Mac.
My wife has an Intel Mac. We have never used it in anything but its Mac mode and I am clueless as to whether it is possible, without buying and installing Windows Whatever on that computer, to boot it up in the "other" system, attach the router modem, and run that .exe file and update the software on the modem?
Is there any easy way to go about this or should I just forget about updating the modem software???
    Thanks,
    Bob

If the exe file is only a windows self-extracting zip archive (which is not uncommon), then the free Unarchiver (http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html) will open it on your Mac.
Otherwise, there are other solutions without the purchase of a Windows license, you can run many windows programs with Crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/) which does not require you to install windows, but still costs $59.99.
I guess the easiest way is just ask a friend who has Windows.

  • Why does FireFox freeze and the only way to unfreeze it is to open the task manager and close the plugin-container.exe file??? It has been happening more and more often and it is getting VERY AGGRAVATING!!!!!

When Firefox does freeze (not responding appears in parentheses in the page tab) I am not able to access any of the webpages (the entire webpage is hidden behind a vaguely white transparent foreground) and more often than not any files I might be downloading are stopped before the entire file has been transferred - which means that I have to start those downloads from the beginning AGAIN. This has been happening for quite some time and I AM SICK AND TIRED OF IT HAPPENING!!
If it continues to happen for much longer I will swear off FireFox FOREVER!!!!! Either a program works or it does not work and lately Firefox has not worked worth a damn...........
The ONLY way to force Firefox to allow me to access it is for me to end the plugin-container.exe file process using Task Manager. Clearing there is a SERIOUS problem here that has not been resolved - why not???

The pluging container opens up unnecessary copies as the cookies/history are cleared, this is a known issue, it might be what you are seeing, and it is hoped to be fixed in some future release of firerox.
There are some hangs affecting some users, with symptoms being high cpu usage, occurring as bookmark changes or syncing is in progress, there is a work around for that.
Firefox hanging as you close it see:
    *[[firefox hangs]]
    * [[firefox is already running but is not responding]]

  • .exe files appearing on MAC in mixed network environment

I am working in a mixed PC/Mac network environment. Soon after plugging the MAC into the network, I started noticing '.exe' file appearing on my MAC.
Almost every folder on the HD now has a .exe file with the same name inside it. For example the Libray folder has a file called "Library.exe" in it now.
I have one folder on the MAC shared, and mapped as a network drive on a PC. The PC's anti-virus software keeps flagging a virus on the folder. However, I am running Intego's anti-virus on the MAC and it does not find anything.
    Anyone have any ideas here?

Finally figured it out... PC Network volume (shared folder) had the W32.rontokbro@mm virus. EXE file appeared anytime the PC connected to the MAC. Reformatted the PC and deleted all of the EXE files from the MAC and now I have no troubles.

  • Can I run a .exe file on a Mac?

I need to know know if it's possible to run a '.exe' file on an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X. There's a CD with an application I need to run. In the Finder it has the icon of the black computer screen with green letters and it's titled 'startCD.exe. It'll run on Windows but due to circumstances I need to run it on my computer. Any direction you can point me in will be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Maybe:
    http://www.codeweavers.com/
"CrossOver Mac allows you to install many popular Windows applications and games on your Intel OS X Mac. CrossOver includes an easy to use, single click interface, which makes installing Windows software simple and fast. Once installed, your application integrates seamlessly in OS X. Just click and run your application directly from the OS X Finder. Clicking a Windows file or document — including email attachments — will launch the appropriate Windows program, allowing you to work on the files. Best of all, you do it all easily and affordably, without needing a Microsoft operating system license.
Adding new Windows software is easy. Just place your install CD in your Intel Mac, and CrossOver will recognize it and offer to begin the installation process. CrossOver then completes the installation and configures your application to run on your Mac. That's all there is to it."

  • Boot Camp Question .... I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp. If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"

I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp.
If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well

If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space.  Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.
