Mac mail Version 2.1

When I send a pdf file to an AOL user it show's up ther with no extension(.pdf)
They have to download it and add it. Is there any way for it to show up with the extension so they can double click on it to view it.
Thanks JC

This occurs with AOL users only?
If so, with PDF files only or with other types of files also?
If this occurs with AOL users only, this isn't a Mail.app problem especially if you are including the file extension with all attachments.
AOL has always been problematic with attachments so besides trying to convince this AOL user to dump using the AOL program, my only suggestion is to try archiving the file first via the Finder before attaching it to a message.
Select an item or items in the Finder.
Choose File > Create Archive.
If you archive a single item, the archived file has the name of the original item with a ".zip" extension. If you archive multiple items at once, the archived file is called Archive.zip.
Edit - If this occurs with a single page PDF file (which appears inline or viewed in place within the body of the message with the Mail.app), you should not use the available Image Size adjustment with a single page viewed in place PDF file as is also available with image/picture attachments.

  • I can't find older emails in my Yahoo account or iPhone app BUT I am able to see them on my Mac Mail version of email. sent emails are OK.

... for the past few months i have noticed that emails in my inbox Yahoo mail account older than a few weeks keep disappearing. i cannot find them in my Yahoo account or iPhone app BUT i can see them on my Mac Mail version of email. Emails that i have stored into folders in my yahoo account are still there... same with my sent emails... it's just the Inbox emails.. strange, very strange. I don't know how to 'move' the emails from my Mac Mail  back to my Yahoo account.

Please read and begin using Can receive email, but not send email. I had a similar issue with Comcast mail (could receive by not send) and found my answer in this letter. For me it took resetting the outgoing mail and telling the system to use a password when sending outgoing mail. If you need help with that please advise and I'll tell you where to look.

  • Mac mail version 6.5 (1508)

i have noticed that on mac mail version 6.5 (1508), any mails which have been recieved earlier in the inbox and now being replied to the same.
One copy of the sent mail to the recipeint comes back to me as a copy.
where as i have noticed i do not have the option ticked for, every email sent out BCC me 1 copy of the email.
And neither do the rules exist.
however this happens only when i respond back to the emails i already have in my inbox.
if i compose a new email and sent to the reciepeint, i do not recieve this 1 copy back in in my inbox.
have checked my mail server settings for any valid forward on the email box configured, this does not exist.
so therefore i would like to understand if this is some sort of software bug with this version of mail.

Back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

  • Mac Mail Version 6.0 (1486) has stopped recieving mesages regularly and the search doesn't work

Mac Mail Version 6.0 (1486) has stopped recieving mesages regularly and the search doesn't work.
Since installing Mountain Lion, Mail seems to be very unresponsive. I have mac mail running on an iMac (which works fine) and a 2012 MacbookPro which is the one having the issues with the Mail app. Both computers are running on Mountian Lion.
When I scroll up in Mail for instance, the frame rate drops to about 5 a second.
When I click on a message it doesn't display it in the preview pane. Which is very annoying!
But I can get around the issue by double clicking on a message and it opens up the message in a new window.
When I search for a message, nothing appears in the results. Even if Im searching for something that is defiently there, eg if I type in my name, you'd think some results would come up. But when I click on something else, the results dispaly for about half a second. Bizarre. Is anyone else having this problem?

  • Where can I find free Christmas stationery for Mac Mail version 6.2?

Where can I find free Christmas stationery for Mac Mail version 6.2 on my MacBook Pro running OS 10.8.2??? Everything I've tried to download is from 2008-2009 and isn't compatible.
    ~Patty

    Dear sig,
Thank you for responding. When I Googled, I received a list of suggested web sites, but they were all posted in 2008-2009 and, when I downloaded the application, they were not compatible with OS 10.8.2 and/or Mail 6.2. I did find an app in the App Store called "Stationery for Mail" for $6.99 (less expensive than equinux or ipresentee) that had one Christmas email template and several others for other occasions/seasons. I purchased that one so that I'd have at least one email template to use for now, but I'd love to find more templates for future use that are FREE.
I can't believe Apple hasn't created more email stationery templates for download (freeware) on its web site. I can find screensavers and wallpapers, but nothing for Mail.
If you or anyone else finds or knows of a website with FREE email stationery templates for Mail 6.2, please let me know.
    Thank you!
    ~Patty

  • Mac mail version 4.5(1084/1085) can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8(Build 10K549)

At some stage today I did an update which has killed Mac Mail.
I have read the forums, performed a combo update 10.6.8 with no result, I still get the error
You have Mail version 4.5(1084/1085). It can't be used on OS X Version 10.6.8 ( Build 10K5489)
    Any thoughts?

Thanks mate but Software update is indicating that I am all up to date.
I have booted off an older clone and mail was fine. I may have to go for a fresh install of the system but it annoys me to have to do that. It's gotta be something simple!

  • Can't get Mac Mail (version 7.1) to work with BC mail

  • Mac Mail Version 6.5 (1508) Gmail Account

I use 2 mail accounts on Mac Mail, iCloud and Gmail. Most of my Gmail account emails require scrolling left to right to read them. The iCloud account is fine. How do I change the Gmail formatting? Thanks!

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • How do you superscript a number in Mac Mail Version 5.2 (1278)?

I am drafting an e-mail and wanted to add a reference number so that I can footnote the source. I tried to manually superscript but am not able to find an easy way to get this done. I have already looked in the toolbar and could not find any button to add superscript. I used to be a windows user and so I also tried to see if one can use format font and then simply select superscript. For some reason this basic function seems to be a real challenge to find on Mac Mail for my Macbook pro. Please help!

    Hi Colin,
Arrange > Align Objects is used for Shapes (when drawing) or other objects such as Tables, Text Boxes, Charts.
To align the contents of cells, use the Format Bar:

  • Apparently I don't understand a feature correctly in Mac mail version 6.6

I am a little confused about what the difference is between a new mailbox and a new smart mailbox in mail. I wanted to create one folder that I can put all my mail into so that I can use my inbox as a sort of a "tickler file". I created a new "mailbox" from the little plus sign at the bottom left of the screen and chose "on my mac" and named it "archive". I moved every email from my inboxes (from multiple email accounts) into this. Was this the correct way to accomplish my goal?
Unfortunately I felt uncomfortable about this action and then became confused and tried to undo what I had done by moving them back to the inbox so that I could delete the "archive" "mailbox" I had created. I didn't feel like I had accomplished my goal correctly because I don't understand how this new system of "mailboxes and smart mailboxes" fully works and why there are not just simple folders anymore! I deleted the archive mailbox I had created and it apparently deleted ALL of my emails from off of my mac for only one of my email accounts! What is going on!? I just want to simply be able to organize my email workflow with one simple folder. I don't want to set permissions for this folder or anything. Can someone PLEASE help me understand what the heck I've done wrong and how I can get my emails back into mail from my server?
    Thank you!

Your original action is alright but maybe not what you wanted.
A mailbox is a physical thing (a folder) you can add locally to your mac.  You can move emails into it and they will leave the IMAP folder they were in and reside on your mac.  What's left on the server is your "tickler" file.
Alternatively, you could create an IMAP mailbox called archive and put mail there.  Then the mail would still be on the server but in the archive folder.  The easiest way to remember this is "An IMAP mailbox on your mac is a copy/cache/clone of the same mailbox on the server"  that is why you can see it on all your devices and a change on one means a change to all.  If you want access to this "archive" from all your devices, then it needs to be a server IMAP mailbox.
A smart mailbox is really just a filter.  It's like a saved search.  Mail that meets the search criteria shows up in the smart mailbox.  Nothing is moved.

  • Mac mail version 6.2 won't send

Can anyone help. Yesterday, 4 of my 5 email accounts stopped sending on both my iMac and MBP. Have restarted system numerous times, repaired disk permissions, checked all email settiungs and no joy. Any suggestions?

In Mail>Preferences>Accounts make sure you have the proper smtp Outgoing Mail Server and that the port is correct per your ISP's advice.

  • Mac Mail Unexpectedly Quits for no reason

Hi - yesterday my mac mail started to play up and I am not sure why? I have not done anythin differently - but totally randomly, not when I am doing anything or if I am just browsing folders in Mac Mail the application quits. It has just done it again this morning which is the 4th time since yesterday afternoon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did a search on the forums for this and found people had this problem when starting up - I have no problem starting up. Another thing I have noticed recently is that when I do switch between folders it takes a while to load the preview (longer than it used to) so not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Also - because of this any advice on how to back up my messages in mac mail quickly and easily would be great!
Mac Mail Version 2.1 - MacBook Pro

    Hi Tarquin.
Verify/repair your disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
When an application crashes (i.e. quits unexpectedly), the system writes information about the state of the application at the moment of the crash into a log file. That information is called a crash report and it makes troubleshooting much easier. In order to find and paste the relevant part of the crash report here, proceed as follows:
    1. Open ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.log. The whole Mail crash log appears on a Console window (you can also open that file with any text editor). It may contain many crash reports. We only want the latest, which is located at the bottom of the file.
    2. Look for a line that begins with "Date/Time:" as close to the bottom as possible, and another that says "Thread N Crashed:", where N is a number. Select everything from the "Date/Time:" line to the lines immediately following "Thread N Crashed:". Copy that text and paste it here. Do not post the whole crash log, and do not include anything beyond the lines immediately following "Thread N Crashed:" either, just the relevant part.
Take a look at the following thread for examples of what a crash report looks like:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=466701
any advice on how to back up my messages
Mail stores most preferences and all account settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Everything else, including all your messages and mailboxes, is stored within the ~/Library/Mail/ folder.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • Mac Mail 6.1

I'm trying to set up my gmail account in Mac Mail 6.1 on my MacBook pro.  During set up in Mac Mail, the account keeps coming up as a POP and not IMAP account.  POP is disabled on gmail settings and I'm able to set up the account as IMAP without issue on Outlook for Mac 2011.  Account is unusable unless IMAP with iPhone and iPad.  In the older Mac mail versions, you were able to select the account type either POP or IMAP.  Now it's all automatic by Mail.
Any suggestions would be appreciated in that I really want to switch to Mac Mail from Outlook but am a heavy gmail user on several different devices.  POP will not work becuase I'll never remember which emails were read or not.  Thank you.
    Matt V.

Some have attributed their new success directly to the update. Many have simply found where some change in settings was needed to restore functionality. A few users of Comcast and Cox have some random issues that are not fully explained. I think most of those using Frontier actually got theirs working from something that Frontier did, and not Apple.
The only thing I know was changed was a restoration of the ability to take a more manual approach to setting up accounts such as Gmail, allowing the user to choose to use POP rather than IMAP because of being able to hold down the Option key after nearly finishing the first screen of the setup assistant, and having the Create button change to Continue and not leap to the finish.
Up until today I had 14 accounts and 5 SMTPs all working. I added to new Hotmail account, and allowed Mail to set it up automatically, and it was installed perfectly, and worked immediately to send and receive.

  • Mac Mail is constantly forwarding same email to my BB 8120.

I'm suffering an annoying problem whenever I type a new email using my Mac Mail (Version 3.3).
As I compose a new email I'm constantly bombarded by new message alerts on my Blackberry 8120 of the actual email I'm writing. It is sending multiple alerts even as I am still writing the same message.
So for example I'll open Mac Mail and type in the subject box, cue an alert on my phone notifying me of a new message. This "new" message is actually the email I'm still writing on the Mac Mail. I'll carry on typing the email and yet again I will be notified on my phone of a new message.... and yes you guessed it, it's the email I'm still composing, only now it contains the subject and the few words that I have typed, and so this carries on.... and on.
It seems that if I don't type it does not send anything, but the moment I type several words, beep! I have a new message. Typically I'll end up with five message alerts each showing various stages of my email.
As you might expect It's beginning to really grate me.
If anybody can help me I would be very grateful.
    Kind Regards
    Richard001

But this is just a workaround solution. I am basically loosing the ablity to save my draft mail to the server and may  later send it from my office or any other place where i dont have my macbook with me.
This doesnt happen when i save draft from the web-gmail or with microsoft euntroge (I havent checked whether euntroge puts the draft message on the server ).
I use a gmail account. Have anyone of you found issues with any other email account?
