Mac mini and displays problems

I cannot get my mac mini to display properly on either my old NEC 30" mulitSync, (using a new HDMI/DVI cable) or with a new ASUS monitor. I have tried a multitude of resolution settings but none work

Hi, what resolution are these Monitors, HDMI port only supports 1920*1200 max.
Higher would require an MDP/TB to Duallink DVI adapter.

  • Mac Mini & Analog Display Problem

We just received our Mac Mini computer. We pplan to use an existing VGA monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 730B). We plugged the monitor cable into the Apple VGA to Thunderbolt adapter. First time we powered the MiniMac we saw the Apple logo immediately at power up. The display reads "Check Signal Cable" after the computer completes its power up signal. How do we get a working display to complete the Mac Mini set up steps?

    John,
A further update to our monitor problem:
After posting my last message I noted that when the display/computer goes into screen saver or sleep mode, the screen was blank with the "Check Cable" message scrolling across the screen. Unplugging the Thuderbolt connector at the computer and plugging it in again was the only way to restor the images from the computer.
This morning I replaced the original cable (and VGA connectors) with a cable that was twice the diameter of the original cable. The monitor has worked flawlessly since then at re-start from the sleep state. I conclude that either the replacement cable, connectors or both do a better job conveying the signals between the computer and monitor. It could be that there is some high speed signal the monitor looks for to initiate re-start that is distorted by the original cable.
With either cable the images and text are crisp with no distortion. I see no need to upgrade to a DVI cable and connection between this monitor and the Mac Mini now that the monitor re-start function is working.

  • Mac mini and display

any one can tell what is the best or posible display for mac mini 1.25mhz ? thanks

    Hmmm.
As far as LCD's go, I have been doing a bit of research for the purchase of one.
Consider first what you wish to use the computer for, LCD's are becoming fairly specialized, and typicall fall into these categories:
    1) Office/Word processing - Not too bright, so fairly easy on the eyes, not too fast, not too expensive. "action" in movies will not be as smooth or clear as on a CRT
    2) Professional Image editing - accurate colors, excellent image, fairly expensive, not too fast. Ditto about movies... these have excellent color, but response time for a LCD is much greater than for a CRT.
    3) Gaming - colors are inaccurate, may be bright, but very fast response. Probably not an easy monitor to sit in front of for word processing. Also, some in this category add noise to movies, so while the action may appear more fluid, you will have to contend with flashing and or off colors.
There are a few monitors that fill more than one category, and I opted for one of these. Have a look at Tom's Hardware for a current review of LCD monitors for a better idea of what to expect:

  • Mac Mini and Internet Problems

According to my re-install disks, which there are 2...I can put in 0S-9 or OSX 10.3.7. I believe currently that I am running the OSX 10.3.7. By the way, please be patient with me, I am relatively new to Macs. Anyway, this morning the internet was working perfectly. This afternoon, when I clicked on my Safari Icon, the Yahoo homepage will load about 75% and then it closes and I get an error message. I also sometimes use Netscape for ebay listings and it is doing the same thing. I called my ISP and my cable modem seems to be sending proper signals and he said it sounds like a computer issue. Through Internet explorer I am able to get on the Mac site and leave a post but this is far as I can go. Any help will be appreciated!
    God Bless!!!

The Mac Mini (probably) won't boot natively to OS 9. The OS 9 disks are for what's called Classic Mode. It's for backwards compatibility for those of us who have older software we still want to run; it basically runs OS 9 within OS X. Since you are new to Macs, running old applications is probably not an issue for you, and you will save around 300 MB or so by not installing it.
    About your network problem:
+Not all browsers and webpages are built to the same set of standards. Webpages built with Microsoft software tend to be especially notorious about not working with anything other than IE, but IE-Mac isn't up to the universal standards. I usually run Safari, but I have 4 browsers installed: Safari, Firefox (tends to be the most compatible, but I like Safari's interface better), IE, and Netscape (I use it for building simple html).
+Sometimes weird problems are cause when the file permissions are messed up. Go to the folder /Applications/Utilities and run the application Disk Utility, then find the button that says "Repair Permissions" and click it.
+Use the Software Update utility and download the latest updates. First download the 10.3.9 update all by itself, then any Security Updates, then others. You will be stuck rebooting more than once, so when you do this, make sure you have time to sit in front of your computer for awhile.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
If you have two displays attached, then the function to change from mirrored to extended Desktop will appear in System Prefs/Displays.

  • Problem with Mac Mini and Panasonic PT-AE700 projector

I just bought a brand new Mac Mini and intended to connect it through hdmi to my Panasonic PT-AE700 projector (with a 10 m hdmi-hdmi cable and a dvi-hdmi adapter). However there is no signal recognized by the projector.
Any suggestions? I have tried with two different dvi-hdmi adapters between the Mini and the cable. Both work fine with my MacBook Pro, but with the Mini there is no signal.

Thanks again BSteely for your answer.
Unfortunately I still haven't been able to get anything out from the projector through HDMI.
However, I've found someone with a similar problem. It seems the problem is the lenght of the HDMI cable (which in fact is closer to 15 m than 10 m). HDMI is designed to handle at least those 10-15 m runs, but the problem seems to be DVI, which is only capable of something around 5 m. Since I'm converting from DVI to HDMI, I'm subject to DVI's limitations. And the MBP seems to have better capability of handling the weaked signal than the Mini.

Gefen should have an amplifier (HDMI Super Booster) that could solve the problem. I just ordered it to see if it could help in strenghtening the signal and solve the problem for me.

I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto ties to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

    Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.

  • Airport Express problems with new MAC MINI and DLINK router SOLVED

Hi just thought I would post this as it may well help others experiencing similar frustrations with new core duo mac mini and wireless connection or quality problems across the network / internet etc
I have a 3 week old, new mac mini core duo 1.8ghz 2gig ram, 120gb disk - First Mac, connecting to my exisiting wireless network via DLINK ADSL Router 2MB Broadband also one windows laptop and pc also wireless on the network and two airport express potins to stream itunes to
    Problem was briefly
Mac worked fine, but the network connection just far too slow, laptop and pc, 1800+ kbps downstream mac mini 90 - 150kbps (http://www.adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp)
also if i ping the router directly from terminal (ping -c 20 192.168.1.1) average response 12+ ms with 20% packet loss, yet laptop and pc avg 2ms no losses
Spent 2 evenings on frustrating calls of more than 1 hour each (due to being cut off , then ring back and closed etc etc) and carrying out a the helpdesk troubleshooting (I am an IT consultant I think I am above this level), eventually an archive and install of the os as well
last night I call for the third time, insisting I dont wish to carry out any further troubleshooting, and want it replaced and resolved or my money back
I receive a call back from product specialist (not sure if thats mac mini specialist or airport) but we resolved the issue (his knowledge far superior to the help desk do this do this attitude)
between us we carried out the folowing and resolved the problem and I am now very happy
mac now downstreaming also in excess of 1800kbps (as expected for 2mb broadband)and no packet loss
This problem was resolved by switching off the turbo option hidden away in the routers settings, under wireless configuration
Supposed to improve performance, but its rubbish and will make hardly any difference under mac os to the speed but will certainly affect your mac mini performance(you may have a similar setting switched on in your routers and mac os dont like it)
We stumbled across this by first disconnecting one of the airport express devices from my dlink network, and using it on its own default apple wireless settings, effectively making it a standalone wireless network, and not via the dlink router
we then carried out the same ping with the ip address of this device (from airport admin utility default 10.0.1.1) and the results were fantastic 2ms avg no package loss
this established it was something with the router, and how we then interrogated the routers settings and found the turbo on option within wireless configuration
you may not be able to replicate this if you dont have an additional network you could join (such as airport express), but probably worth checking your own router settings for something similar
Hope that may be of assistance to others, sorry that its a bit long winded and garbled, but I'm just so excited to finally get my new mac working as i would expect it to
Also perhaps insist on speaking to a product specialist immediately that the helpdesk are unable to help you

Hello macfar14. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
For just streaming iTunes and/or for sharing a USB printer, the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) just needs to be configured as a wireless client ... which you already attempted to do.
Just to be sure nothing was missed, here are the basic steps to do this:
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <existing wireless network's Network Name or SSID>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

I have Mac mini and I'm trying to listen to music through YouTube it works. But my problem is that instead of the music playing through the tv speakers it plays through the Mac box. ):

Are you using HDMI or an Apple Airplay Module to go to the TV Speakers?
If you are using an HDMI it's straight through output. The internal speakers are disabled.
If you are using an Airplay Module:
    - Go on iTunes
    - Locate the Airplay icon that has a TV with an up arrow icon much like your iPhone has for Bluetooth
    - Click on that and Airplay to ModuleName

  • Is it possible to run dual display monitors on a KVM switch between my mac mini and a PC desktop?

I have two 23" monitors utilizing DVI that I currently have plugged into my PC desktop.  I'd like to purchase the mac mini and utilize the same monitors for both systems and switch back and forth between the two.  So, I'm wondering if it's possible.  The only two hangups I can anticipate is dual display capability on the mini (I expect that some adapter will be necessary), keyboard compatibility between the two systems, and finding a switch that will handle all the above.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I think this video could help you

Other question is the switch box, You will have eight income cables (4 video, 4 usb) and four output cables

    Hey iWeb plubishing problems,
I would first check to make sure that you meet the system requirements for OS X to support Documents in the Cloud. For that your Mac’s needs to be running at least OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later to make sure that everything syncs. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • Problem with Mac mini and HP w2207h

I have a new Mac mini and a HP w2207h screen. I have a problem with the resolution. The screen wants to be on 1680x1050, but when i turn that mode on, the screen is just blinking and you can't see anything. so i have to use the 1080p modus. But it's kind of blury. Can anyone help? Does apple has some kind of support mail??

Don't waste your time or money on the adaptors. I have a hp 2207h and I tried th dvi to hdmi and the dvi to vga, neither work, I still don't have a working monitor. Waited on the phone for tech support for 30 minutes. Then got a total line of crap.
This monitor works flawlessly with my comcast motorola hd cable box, with my sony dvd player, with my toshiba laptop, with my hp computer. But will not work with a mac mini... The only logical reason given the wide varity of equipment it will work on, is that apple does not support HDMI standards, if they did, it would work.
The apple does work on my 40 in tv. But thats not where I want it. So, this is useless to me. And after the line of crap I got from tech support, I'm thinking about quiting apple all together.
This ***, I was really excited about my first apple computer. Now after 4 hours, and nothing but frustration and no support at all from apple, I'm thinking about giving up and sticking with PC's from here on out. Worst experiance ever.
I may even switch to android and chuck my 4...
