Mac Mini repeatedly getting "Press power button and restart your computer"
I keeping getting the following message coming up on my Mac Mini "Press power button and restart your computer". I have a G4 Mac mini and it boots up fine and runs ok for about 10 mins however after that time (if left) the message comes up. I restart the machine and the same thing happens again.
Isolate the cause as my FAQ suggests. Backup, or recover your data first*
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
and then discover if the issue is hardware, a directory, or software.

i cannot open iphoto- the message I am getting says Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command-
I tries and it doesnt work!!What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I lost my iphoto in snow lepard. How do I get it back?
Have you tried rebuilding as the message suggests? Otherwise you need to remember that we can't see your machine and so haven't a clue what you're asking.

Have iPod Nano Shuffle 6th Gen. I purchased it when I had Windows Vista. I have since upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate . Was fine with Vista. Now, it keeps shutting off during the song, 3 or 4 times. Have to press power button and then arrow to restart song. I went to my iTunes and ran diagnostics. Passed all until the end. The last test had a red dot failure. It said no iPod, iPhone, or iPad found. Does someone know how I can correct the problem? iTunes is always updating, so I am current.

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner. -
Have to press power button many times before computer turns on. Help!
Sometimes I push the power button, and it turns on immediately. Other times, I have to fidget, and push it many times before it decides to turn on. Am afraid that repeated pressing, and fidgeting is going to make problem worse, but is the only way I can turn computer on now. Does anyone know why this is, and how to fix it?
Chris's advice sounds good. I press my 'on' button and my BlackBook JUMPS to start. Use the adapter and make sure it isn't a battery problem. If all else fails don't hesitate to call Apple or take it into an Apple store. They will happily fix it.

Mac mini (intel) frequently shutting itself down and restarting.
My mac mini has started to immediately power down and restart on its own. I have been using different apps and even just while in the finder deleting old files and reorganizing. I tried a safe boot (holding down shift) and after that I had no audio!? after another restart (regular) it crashed again...I fear that i wont even be able to finish typing this... These crashes are really just the computer shutting down with no notice and resarting on its own... What else can I do here?
Here is what you inquired about my system.
1.25gb 667mhz DDR2 SDRAM (self installed)
I run basic mac apps plus Adobe creative suite 2, quicktime pro, and recently downloaded the 30 day trial of Aperture...
most of the files I have from the older PPC I used to have are on an external HD pictures and my music library.
The Mac mini was new when purchased
devices connected are: linksys 4-port router, D-Link cable modem, Klipsch speakers, a Lexar multi-card reader, Lacie 250GB external firewire drive, 20" Apple cinema display, apple wireless keyboard but a usb mouse (wireless mouse is a battery sucker!), occasionally I attach a panasonic PV-GS300 camcorder - but this has not been attached for weeks and the problem is newer than that.

Thanks to your idea to look in the console I noticed that somethings in the console.log referenced VersionCue CS2 and I have had problems with this before so I have uninstalled VersionCue completely. Hopefully that helps but I really dont know anything at all about the console or how to interpret anything in it....the word "kernel" appears frequently in the system.log...
does this mean anything?
Thanks for your help

IMac G4 Freezes - Get message - You need to restart your computer.
I just posted this question in the G5 forum, I think. The Mac I am using is a G4 - the round 'lamp base' model' - so I will repost the question here.
My iMac freezes without notice, a dark screen comes over the monitor and the message "you need to restart your computer" appears.
This happens randomly and I have no idea what causes this. I thought perhaps it was just a loose power cord, as the cord does seem quite loose.
However, it happens after the machine has been running for some time. Before I have a chance to save my work, the computer tells me it has to shut down. It's not a consistent thing, so it's hard to know if it's the cord or not.
This also happened half way through watching a DVD. Nothing was touched or moved, so it wouldn't appear that this is being caused by a loose cord.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem? (I'm running Tiger on this machine with 700+ megs of RAM plus am using a Mac keyboard. Airport is installed but not in use.
I ran a Hardware Test on it and everything passed. I also completely reloaded all the software, erased the hard drive and did a complete reinstall, and the problem persists. It really is a nuisance and I have no idea what else to try.Hi AnnieGrace,
Sorry to hear of your woes. You are suffering from Kernel Panics (link) which could be caused by defective RAM, dodgy USB drivers or a software corruption etc etc.
I would advise disconnecting all external devices (except an Apple mouse and keyboard), removing any 3rd party RAM you've installed and the Airport card if you have one.
The best thing to do then is work though Dr Smoke's Kernel Panic Resolution Guide (link).
Do let us know how you get on. When I suffered them it was down to cheap RAM; other AD users have reported that old keyboards caused their problem.
regards

I would first make sure your Mac is or isn't on any list contained here: http://www.apple.com/support/exchange_repair/imac.html - you may in fact have a faulty power supply which is covered by repair extension through Apple.
Here's a brief explanation on a Kernel Panic: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227
Good luck, Rick

It shouldn't crash just because I type in my screen saver password. But it did. I had to push the power button to shut it down and turn it back on.
Freezes happen occasionally. Hard to pinpoint a cause. I wouldn't let it worry you as they are rare. If this happens often then post back as there may be something wrong.

Well I have been at this for 3 days trying to get Iphoto to load. I have uninstalled, installed over and over again the ILife. Today I even downloaded Iphoto for 15 dollars from the App Store. I am running version 10.7.2 on my IMAC. Please please please can someone help get my Iphoto up and running. Thanks!
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
Mac Mini wont start after power outage, and problem copying iPhoto library. HELP!
So, recently there was a power outage in my neighborhood, the power was intermitent for about 2 hours, during this time my mac rebooted itself several times, but on the second time it rebooted the power went out during boot, then the power finally went out for good, it was back in about 3 hours, but when i finnaly turned on my mac it got stuck at the Apple logo with a spinning wheel and a progress bar that wouldnt go past 40%, when i boot holding command -v it said that there were a lot of errors which were automatically fixed, except for one, "Incorrect Thread records" or something like that.
I have another partition with Mountain Lion installed for emergencies, the other one with Lion became inaccessible to mountain lion or any other OS X version, but oddly enough, I can access my Lion partition via HFSexplorer and see all my files untouched.
My main concern are my pictures in iPhoto, and thats about 36Gb of data, I want to backup them to my windows pc by copying the whole iPhoto library package, but HFSexplores for some reason cant copy the folders with date (XX/XX/XXXX) with the /, and it keeps changing them to XX_XX_XXXX and I know that would pretty much break my iPhoto library!
I googled my drive problem and people said that I need a Disk Utility called DiskWarrior, but I cant seem to find how to to use it, I got a copy from a friend, it was the digital version of the boot disk which need to be burned to a dvd.
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry for the bad englishOK, we need more info about your Mac. Do you know how much RAM it has in it?
