Mac os 10.6.2 + photoshop 11.0.1 CRASH

Hi all,
I wonder about the state of affairs with respect to the crashes Adobe photoshop (from within CS4 and also other components of CS4) produces.
After experiencing quite some problems with CS3 on a PC (due to driver size issues) and hence switching to Mac Os now I get even more crashes. If it wouldn't be that bad, it just would ridiculous.
This is my sytem:
Mac Book Air bought in April 2009, 1.86 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Ram. Since Snow Leopard did not install properly (!!!) on this machine (e.g. switching Air Port on/off ceased), I formatted the HD and installed Snow Leopard FROM SCRATCH. After adding some more programs (ms office, thunderbird, firefox) I installed Adobe CS4 and kept both the OS and the applications up to date by regular actualizations.
With a freshly booted system, photoshop may run for a while, but it certainly cannot be shut down properly, it then crashes and issues a warning. Upon second try, third , etc. it may crash immediately or after a couple of seconds. Occasionally, it will handle jpeg files, but crash upon exiting. It will immediately crash after having opened a psd file. Trying to insert text into a picture inevitably will cause a crash. Setting up another account for testing purposes seemed to work a bit better, but I did not follow up this thoroughly.
This issue would seem to be caused by a faulty interplay of CS4 photoshop and Mac Os 10.6.2.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
The system has sent tons of crash reports both to Apple and to Adobe, to no effect so far.

Since I've updated to Snow Leopard I've the same problem: CS4 crashes every time I quit it, but it seems to work properly.
