Mac - SQLDev 1.5 - Unable to use carriage return/enter in SQL Worksheet

This morning I brought up SQLDeveloper (1.5). I connected to a database. Started typing in a query and the carriage return (or enter) does not work. If I go to a menu or the list of files, it does work. Just not in the SQL Worksheet. I removed the application and re-installed. Still the same. I do not see this behavior in any other application or situation. Just within the SQL Worksheet of SQLDeveloper.
As a check, I did exit all other applications, rebooted, and tried again. Still no joy. I have the latest updates of Leopard and SQLDeveloper. I am guessing it is not using the latest Java but rather what was deployed with SQLDeveloper.
Any thoughts on how I could lose these two keys? There is no change to the system preferences for the keyboard. There is no setup to have the carriage return or enter key be mapped to anything else.
Very odd. I tried looking around the application and only in the SQL Worksheet does it not work.
Any ideas?
Eric

Ahh, I was pulling my hair out over this since last week (on a PC, not a Mac). I just couldn't figure out why I could no longer add a line feed on the SQL worksheet when I hadn't changed anything at all.
Anyway, I still have no idea how the settings got changed, but resetting to defaults did the trick. Thanks!

• Receiving attachments with carriage return / enter after filename extension

Hello All,
For a while already I am seeing carriage return / enter / newline after the filename extension of (some of) my attachments.
Clicking the attachment fails to open it. The only remedy I have is to save the attachment, navigate to it, click the filename, and remove the extra newline after the filename.
It then asks me if i want to use the new extension, for example
Would you like to use
".pdf"
instead of
".pdf
(I had to cut up the sentence above to make the bogus CR visible)
After agreeing the file works fine and opens normally ( + Icon changes back to preview icon).
The file shows up as "symposium 2010.pdf??" in Terminal.
and
/Users/vincent/Desktop/symposium\ 2010.pdf
when pasted in vi - yes the third white line is included.
Did anyone see/solve this issue before? Wading through the forum here did not turn up a solution...

• Handling carriage returns (enter)

I have an application with several pages.
If the user pushes the carriage return (enter) on many of the pages,
the application goes back to the login page rather than activating a button on the page.
What is the best way to trap and ignore carriage returns to avoid this situation?

I was hoping for another mechanism, but that works.
Thanks.

• How to use carriage return in formcalc

I'm sure the answer to this question is simple, but being new to formcalc (and scripting in general) I am having problems with it.
The details:
I have a dynamic form in livecycle. The two fields I am having problems with currently are a drop down list, and a text box (not field) associated with it. What is listed in the text box is dependant upon the choice from the dropdown list. So far everything is, functionally, working. I have the formcalc scripting event set to change on the dropdown list with the following script
if (xfa.event.newText == "Office 1") then
OfficeAddress1 = "123 Street Road #xD Town City, US 12121 #xD (111) 555-1414"
endif
"Office 1" being the dropdown selection
OfficeAddress1 being the name of the text field
The fake address being the address, seperated by carriage return symbols (#xD) to indicate where I want it to jump to the next line.
The script is working fine except that the #xD symbols are showing up on the final form. How do I prevent this?
Thanks for you assistance.

Thanks Paul, good advice.
For anyone that would want to do this in formcalc, the embarrassingly simple way of using a carriage return in the script is... hitting the enter button... no syntax required.
Don't bother trying to line it up in the scripting screen (my mistake), that only puts more spaces than is necessary and will mess up the text orientation on the final form. Just hit enter and don't worry if it's not lined up, it will be.

• textarea text lost in ITS when using carriage return

If the user hits carriage return in a , i.e. to create a new line of text, everything after the carriage return is ignored by R/3 when retrieving the text.
Is there a way to avoid this loss of text.
Thanks
Karen

Try with this.
On the html:
`if (ztdline1.dim > 0)` `repeat with r from 1 to 3; if ( ztdline1[r] != "*" ) ;write (strSub (ztdline1[r], 3, 132), "\r\n"); end; end` `end`
On the PBO dynpro:
loop at ztdline1 cursor top_line.
endloop.
On the PAI dynpro:
module get_text1.
loop.
endloop.
where module get_text1 is:
clear ztdline1.
refresh ztdline1.
do.
field-get 'ZTDLINE1' sy-index message_line datalen.
if sy-subrc <> 0.
exit.
endif.
read table message_line index 1.
if sy-subrc eq 0.
ztdline1-tdline = message_line.
append ztdline1.
else.
clear ztdline1-tdline.
append ztdline1.
endif.
enddo.

What is the difference between a carriage return and a newline ? Aren't they both the same?
Edited by: user659394 on May 13, 2009 10:28 AMThey are different characters, one is chr(13) and the other is chr(10). Many editors will treat them the same but by default, when you hit the Enter key on your keyboard the character generated depends on your operating system
Mac chr(13), unix chr(10), windows chr(13)||chr(10)
That's basically the difference between an ascii and a binary transfer between machines with different operating systems. In a binary transfer nothing is changed in the transfer. In an ascii transfer carriage return/newline characters are converted to the default for the operating system.

• How does one replace carriage returns (enter key) in text areas

I have an address text area in one of my pages where end users are hitting enter after each part of the address. I want to replace the carriage return hex('0A') with spaces. How can I do that?

If you're manually saving your data, you can just change your insert/update code as below:
insert into myTable
(myCol)
values
(replace(:PXX_MY_TEXT_AREA, Chr(10), ' '))
where ...If you're building a page where you aren't directly saving your data, you can add an "on Submit/Before Computation" process that does something like:
:PXX_MY_TEXT_AREA := replace(:PXX_MY_TEXT_AREA, Chr(10), ' ');

• Conflicting use of F3 key in SQL worksheet

The use of the F3 key in the SQL worksheet tab, where this key performs a Rollback, seems to conflict with the menu option Edit->Find Next.
The first time you press the F3 key in the SQL worksheet a rollback is performed. Second and subsequent F3 keystrokes do a Find Next.
In addition, the first time you open a SQL worksheet tab and do a Find next via F3, nothing happens.
Steps:
1. open a SQL worksheet.
2. Paste the following text in:
the
yyyy
uuuu
pppp
uuuu
the
yyyy
uuuu
pppp
uuuu
the
yyyy
uuuu
3. Move cursor to start of first line in worksheet.
4. Press Ctrl-F to initiate search and search on the string 'uuuu' by clicking OK.
5. Press F3 to Find Next. Nothing happens.
SQL Developer version: 1.0.013.43, Build MAIN-13.43
Platform: Windows XP SP2.

In the Accelerators, the F3 is set to 2 options: Rollback and Find Next.
I think that this I would have to be modified in the proper tool, modifying the value standard of one of the two options, but to solve its problem, you can manually modify the value of these options (Tools - Preferences - Accelerators).

Basically, my iphone has been in the same apple ID as my dads iphone and mac book, so my iphone has always been synced to his macbook. I bought myself a mac book the other day and want to sync my iphone to it. However i have obviously put my mac book in a different apple id as i know pay for things i download myself, how can I sync my iphone to my mac book without losing all the music and pictures on it? ive now put my iphone into my new apple id thinking this might help? ive also tried clicking 'manually manage music and video' but this doesnt seem to work, it basically says you have to erase your iphone to sync to a new itunes!
HELPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

" how can I sync my iphone to my mac book without losing all the music and pictures on it?"
You cannot. Copy everything you want form the old computer to the new one, then sync it.
it basically says you have to erase your iphone to sync to a new itunes!
Correct Iphone will sync, or manually manage, with one and only one computer/library at a time. Syncing, or manually managing, to another will indeed erase the current content.

• Carriage return in feed item description?

As the title says, is it possible to use carriage returns in a podcast feed item description? I'd like my description to list the show topics... something like:
Show topics:
1. Topic 1
2. Topic 2
Possible? I'm currently using Podcast Maker to generate my feeds. Does that make it any easier or more difficult?
Aaron

You can just put a newline character inside the description field and iTunes will show the newline in the Podcast Information Panel (click the "i" button for the episode to see this panel).
You shouldn't just put a
tag in there though. If you want to put any kind of html tag in the description field, you must either escape them with a < and > tags or
with a .
So some field results I found out through experimentation with iTunes:
First what works:
- Newline characters work.
-
works.
- line 1
line 2 works too.
What doesn't work:
-
-
and its escaped forms such as <BR/>
I'm not sure how other podcast clients will treat the newline character though.

• Outputting XML carriage return in HTML via XSLT

Hi,
I have a scenario where I execute a View Object query in ADF to retrieve results from a particular table in the Database. I then iterate through the results in my Java managed bean and manually construct an XML file with all the appropriate tags. I then pass the XML file through a Transformer class in the Java bean based on an XSLT I have created to produce an HTML page. However I have an issue when it comes to handling carriage returns. One of the database table columns can contain carriage returns within its value but in the final HTML page the carriage returns don't have any effect and the text just displays on one line.
In the database, the values are stored with the carriage return and in SQL Developer, Toad etc this can be seen e.g. Text1 Text2 Text3 Text4 will display on separate lines. In the XML, the carriage return seems to still be there as when I open the file my element which contains the carriage returns shows each part on a new line e.g. <textElement>Text1
Text2
Text3
Text4</textElement> (The Text2, Text3 and Text4 all start on a new line at the beginning and there's no prior white space as shown in this post)
The XML file in JDeveloper also shows carriage return arrow symbols where there is one.
The HTML page just shows them as Text1 Text2 Text3 Text4 all on one line. Inspecting the source of the HTML shows that the carriage return is in fact there as it also displays as per the XML with the values on separate lines.
Outputting the value from the View Object in Java to the log shows the value coming out like this - Text1 Text2Text3Text4, which is strange but I know the carriage returns are there so I'm not too fussed about this.
I have tried escaping the characters in the Java by doing str.replaceAll("[\\r\\n]", ""); (but replacing the "" with
or &x0A;) so in the XML it replaces carriage returns and line feeds with these escaped characters. However, when the XSLT parses the XML it doesn't pick these up and instead actually outputs these actual characters as they are e.g. Text1&x0A;Text2&x0A;Text3&x0A;Text4
So I can confirm that the carriage return is carrying all the way through to the XSL but I can't help but think that maybe I need to do something in the XSL to process this somehow, e.g. doing the equivalent of the 'replace' in Java but I don't know what I need to search for in the XML and also what to actually replace it with..Do I just replace it with a
in HTML?
We also parse the XML using PDF and Excel XSL Transformer class and see the same results.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

That's a very commonly asked question.
HTML doesn't preserve linefeeds, except for the
tag.
You'll have to replace those characters with
tags in the XSLT.
Search the Internet for terms like "XSLT HTML LF", you'll find some XSLT sample templates to handle the replacement.
