Macbook air 11in 10.7.4 keeps asking me to shut down my computer?

This just started this evening.  I get a pop-iup every 30 secs or so asking me if i want to shut down my computer.  There's also a box that asks if I want to reopen the windows when I log back in.  There are four choices - restart  sleep cancel  shut down.  It seems to toggle between 30 and 60 seconds and then sometimes one right after the other in quick succession.   Very strange, first time seeing something like this.  I was carrying my air when I managed to touch several buttons at once and wonder if I messed something up.  Does anyone have a solution?  Thanks!  T

I don't think he is descibing a kernel panic. He is describing the dialogue box that comes up when you press on the power button in the middle of a session.  I have two machines that are now constantly asking if I'm sure if I want to shutdown. I keep hitting the cancel button but, it comes right back up.
Tried resettting the pram but, that didn't work. One machine is a  Macbook Air and the other is a MacBookPro. Both have 30" Cinema Displays with the dual-link to mini-displayport adapter. Both Macbooks have thunderbolt ports are running Lion. This was not a problem under Snow Leopard.   If I disconnect the monitors, the dialogue box stops coming up.
Is there a incompatibility between thunderbolt, Lion and the older 30" Cinema Display?

  • Now that I upgraded to Maverick on my Mac air, I can not use the power button to shut down the computer anymore. any suggestions?

Now that I upgraded to Maverick on my Mac air, I can not use the power button to shut down the computer anymore. I now have to go to the apple icon in the upper left corner.  Any short cuts instead of going to the apple in the top left corner and hitting shut down.  Doing that all the time, I feel like I am back at work using a "Windows" computer.

This a is tricky one, but you can still do it. Instead of pressing the power button, hold it down for a few seconds and then you'll see the shut down options dialog pop up.
I guess they were trying to prevent accidental touching of that button. They did something similar with the Eject button a few versions ago, where you have to hold down Eject instead of just tapping it so that you don't pop out a CD by mistake.

  • My Mac keeps telling me to shut down my computer

My MacBook Pro is showing me a "You must shut down" message, and after I restart, it appears again before I can even login. Is this something I can fix or do I need to bring it in?

It's a kernel panic - most often this is due to faulty memory, but logic board problems or a failing hard disk can cause it as well as improperly configured external hardware.
Run Apple Hardware Test. If it reports "no trouble found" then run the extended tests. Report any problems it finds.
You don't know which version of OS X, or which MacBook Pro? Knowing both of these details will help get you started in the right direction.

I have just received my second MacBook Air 11" the Wifi connection keeps dropping. Also, after 3 meters away from the rooter it keeps searching for network! It is the second try and the same issues. Will Apple ever come up with a solution? There is a program pack for the connection issue but I cannot believe that this computer wifi keeps connected only while nearby the rooter!

  • I have a MacBook Air mid 2012 11" that keeps freezing every time I use it

    Hi Everyone
I have a MacBook Air mid 2012 11" that keeps freezing every time I use it
    It's running a i7 2ghz with 8gb ram And OS X 10.8.4
I have had the Air around 11 months and the last week is the first time it has ever frozen , now it will do it after about 15 min use
It seems a little warmer than usual and it will freeze no matter what is running , or just idle .
And just to add , no google chrome installed

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

  • Macbook randomly asking to be shut down

hi, I've searched the forums if it was posted before but apparently nobody has a similar problem...
first of all, I have to say that this is a really interesting problem. my computer is randomly showing me the thing "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now", like the shut down button was pressed, with exactly the same options (restart - sleep - cancel - shut down). but the problem is, I don't press the shut down button and it works fine when it's pressed. the problem is annoying. it's not happening frequently, but when it starts, it just keeps asking me again and again and again. I don't know whether it's total random, but once, when I scrolled up with two fingers, it was asking the question. another time, it asked me that when I put my two fingers at the same time on the trackpad. now, for example, it seems ok whatever I do, but suddenly it starts asking it again. and once it turned my computer off without me confirming.. and the real stupid thing was, once, my computer was turned off and standing on my table even without the power cord, and guess what, it just turned itself on !! I didn't do anything and saw my computer turning itself on...
is there anybody experiencing the same problem ? any suggestions ?
    thanks--
p.s. some info: white macbook, was bought in august'06, all the updates are done, no windows, and yes I'm experiencing the bluetooth problem as well

Hi, you said all the updates are done , does that include the firmware update available here
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbooksmcfirmwareupdate11.html
This is known to cause some issues if it has not been done
If you have already done the firmware update try resetting the Pram by holding down the command option P and R keys and do a restart ,you will hear the chime as usual but keep the keys pressed down until you hear it chime 3 times then release and the machine should fire up as usual( be aware that this will reset your preferences to the default ones)
If this does not work use your install disc to veryfy pemissions
restart with the disc in whilst holding down the c key and then go to utilitys
If this does not work read this

You may get a dialog box indicating you need to contact Microsoft to activate it if you've used up all your activations (2 for the professional version or 3 for the home/student version). Don't worry - you won't be hassled, just explain that you just bought a new computer and you are transfering the license.

Not at this time. It would also be great to have an adjustment for sensitivity too.
