Macbook Air 4.2 : Synaptics refuses to load

I can't quite seem to get my synaptics to load as a device driver for my touchpad. Each time, it unloads itself with the following errors :
[ 2708.893] (--) Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: no supported touchpad found
[ 2708.893] (EE) Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.
Took a little while, but I've finally managed to get my Synaptics driver loading consistently for my touchpad :
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
Driver "synaptics"
# Note : MatchIsTouchpad "on" wouldn't give me squat
MatchIsKeyboard "off"
MatchProduct "Apple Internal Keyboard"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
<snip>
EndSection
I've double checked my touchpad input device :
cat /proc/bus/input/devices | grep mouse
sudo cat /dev/input/event6
I've tried both the standard synaptics driver as well as the xf86-input-synaptics-clickpad and both have the same result. Essentially Synaptics loads, doesn't like my touchpad and commits suicide :

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.

I have a MacBook Air.  I purchased Adobe Lightroom 5, the program is on a CD.  The MacBook Air does not have a CD slot and therefore no way to down load the program that I can find.  Is there some way to use Lightroom 5 on my computer?

  • My macbook air wont boot up past the loading screen. UPDATE

My 2008 macbook air will turn on, and then go to the apple screen with the loading wheel, but after a few minutes of loading it just shuts down...
Here is an update of the problem after i messed around with it for a bit.
I start up the macbook while holding Command+s
Then it brings up the prompt.
    I then type: /sbin/fsck -fy
It then outputs a message saying:
    disk0s2: I/0 error.
    Invalid sibling link
    (4, 42746)
**The volume macintosh HD could not be repaired.
/dev/rdisk0s2 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
After that, i type in: /sbin/mount -uw /
    Then I type: exit
It runs the logout scripts and then immedietly boots up fine, like the computer has no problem.
It works fine like this, but i dont want to have to do those steps every time I want to use my macbook...
Any help on how to fix this?

I have a similar problem. Not sure you're on here (since the post is really old) but did you manage to work it out? How?
    My thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19007548#19007548
My Imac froze earlier today as I was dragging an image from safari into indesig and when it froze the weirdest pattern overlaid the screen. It looked just like the opacity pattern from photoshop with grey and white squares. I turned the computer off using the power button and unplugged everything.
Now when I try to start it these weird lines appear on my start up screen (see link)...
    http://meijerladdaruppgrejer.wordpress.com/2012/07/24/oops/
as you can see the apple and the wheel appears as normal...
... then it moves to a normal looking white screen (perhaps a bit greener than usual) and around 30 seconds later freezes at the blue screen.
    I've tried the cmd + alt + p + r several times but it won't help.
If i press alt during start up I can see and choose my hard drive but just end up at the blue screen again.
Can I try starting it up in safe mode or something?

  • AppleWorks last ran under 10.6; I have 10.8 on the MacBook Air.  Is it possible to load a copy of 10.6 to use as a separate startup disk so that I can have access to AppleWorks on the MacBook Air?

Like many, I have been a Mac user since the original little guy, and have tons of documents created under Claris Works and AppleWorks.  I can still run AppleWorks under 10.6 on my wife's iMac (Intel chips), but not the 10.8 that came with the MacBook Air.  On older machines, I could load and select different versions of the OS as different startup disks.  Would this be possible on the MacBook Air to be able to retain operational access to the AppleWorks software and all those files I have accumulated?

  • Macbook Air  - Antivirus s/w attempting to load - Scam or not?

My daughter was logging out of a web site when a pop-up appeared attempting to download "IAInstall-15.exe". There is another pop-up box behind it that reads "internet Antivirus - best protection for your privacy". We are not sure if this is legit. It doesn't look right.
When we cancel out, another box pops-up saying "Danger! your private life and private details are threatened by potentially severe privacy violations" There is a "Protect now" box that it wants me to click and I don't think it is right.
Has anyone experienced this. I don't know what to do.
We checked to see if the built in firewall was turned and we can't find it under system preferences -> internet and network -> sharing. Firewall is not there.
    any thoughts?
    thanks

BTW, it is indeed a scam. Such sites put up bogus "warnings" attempting to get you to download their free "repair utility" which is spyware and a borderline virus in and of itself. The free utility will then put up even more fake "you've been infected" warnings and claim you need their paid utility to remove them. But as Kappy said, these scams only infect Windows systems, so as he said just ignore any such popups.
If you ever have need to use a Windows system and such a warning pops up from a web site (a legitimate antivirus or antispyware app's notifications are easy to recognize), at all costs do not accept their offer. You'll end up with junkware that will plague you to death and be very difficult to remove.

  • How do I access iWeb and iDVD on my new Macbook Air?

I just bought a new MacBook Air and read that I can load iPhoto 11, iMovie 11, and GarageBand from the app store, which I did. I don't see iWeb or iDVD anywhere, on the MacBook or in the app store.
I guess iWeb and iDVD are part of the iLife 11 package, which does not come with the MacBook Air (thought it did), but I wanted to check in case I am overlooking something.

If you have another Mac that you can connect to your Air with a local area network or int the Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire, you would be able to run the iLife 11 installer disk on the other Mac and select the Air as the location for the installation.

  • Which inspection camera to use with my MacBook Air?

This question relates to inspection cameras also known as snake cameras, endoscopes, borescopes or fiberscopes.
I want to buy an inspection camera which sits at the end of a cable perhaps 2-3m in length. I want to plug it straight into the USB port of my MacBook Air running 10.8.5.
It should have an illuminated tip and reasonably good resolution so that I can inspect areas under floorboards and within cavity walls.  A waterproof version for use within a drain would be a bonus.  It does not have to be medical grade.
I have spent hours trawling the web trying to find a suitable device.
I see several cameras most which seem to originate from China which (a) are reviewed as having poor resolution and (b) require software installation from a Chinese CD.  Neither fill me with great confidence.
Surely somewhere out there this is a device which is of reasonable quality and will plug-in to my MacBook Air and work without having to load unverified software.  For the avoidance of doubt I don't mind paying for and loading software as long as it's from a trusted source.
    All help much appreciated.

Did your search find this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Endoscope-Borescope-Inspection-Camera/product-r eviews/B004ZWFOEQ
I don't have it and am suspicious of how well a $20 inspection camera will function, but it was the very first one I found with a review from a Mac user.
Be sure to read the review written by "Paul Manning"...

  • Magic Trackpad won't connect to new MacBook Air

I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on a new 13-in MacBook Air.  My Magic Trackpad shows up under the Bluetooth menu bar but won't connect when I click on connect. When I go to Bluetooth preferences, it doesn't appear in the list of devices and when I go to Trackpad preferences and try to set it up as a bluetooth device it also doesn't show up. I've tried turning the power off/on on the trackpad and making sure that it's discoverable. The indicator light flashes to show that's it discoverable but it just doesn't seem to be picked up by my MacBook Air. I've also tried loading fresh batteries in the trackpad but still nothing. Suggestions?

Was the trackpad connected to something else? If so, it needs to be deleted from there first.

  • How Play Blu-Ray on MacBook Air?

    Mavens,
Have you ever travelled with your MacBook Air...intending to view a few Netflix originated Blu-Ray discs to fend off the boredom of yet-another-bland-hotel-room...only to discover the Apple SuperDrive doesn't support Blu-Ray?
What did you do? Is there a legitimate way to view Blu-Ray discs on an Air? Are there reliable 3rd-party drives/software available?
    Your suggestions are invited.
    Thanks,
    Plane Wryter

Step 1: Connect the Blu-ray drive to the MacBook Air via the USB interface
Step 2: Get the MacBook Air Blu-ray Player
Step 3: Install and run MacBook Air Blu-ray Player software on your MacBook Air
Step 4: Play Blu-ray Disc, Blu-ray ISO file, BDMV folder on MacBook Air
Insert your BD into the Blu-ray driver and MacBook Air Blu-ray Player software will load and the BD will be played automatically.
Otherwise, you can press "Open Disc" button to select BDMV folder or press "Open File" button to choose Blu-ray ISO file to play.
Finally, you can have a great Blu-ray fun on your MacBook Air.
By the way, you can change it into full-screen mode, which will bring you into a more fantastic Blu-ray media world.

  • Why do I now see the NavService app on my MacBook Air? How do I 'undo' that?

Since a couple of weeks, whenever I start my MacBook Air, an application called NavService is loaded automatically. I checked the list of applications to start at login by going into System Preferences, but it is not listed as an application to start automatically.
The application shows up when you switch between applications but I am not sure what it does and confuses me.
I have also searched the OSX Lion community and did not find anything on the topic except for one dialog hat I don't really understand.
Does anyone have an idea what could cause this and how I get it to no longer do this?
    Thanks!
    Alwin.

Do you use Navionics for marine a marine chart plotter?  I noticed that after I installed all their (lousy) software on my MPB, this Navservice app would start up each time I booted.   It took me a while, but I tracked it down to the "LaunchAgents" folder in my system library.   Siince I quit the app each and every time I boot my MBP, I decided I didn't need it so I simply renamed the file from "com.apple.NavService.plist" to "com.apple.NavService.plist.old" and rebooted my MBP.  Voila, no more NavService app running in the background.
As far as the purpose of this thing, the plist entry is launching the following app:
    /Applications/Navionics World/NavService.app/Contents/MacOS/NavService
Take a look and see if you have the same thing.
The Navionics software for the Mac is obviously written by someone that doesnt' understand how Macs really work, and they scattered junk all over the place with their install routines.  In fact, if you update the software it will place redundant copies in redundant folders, etc. making it impossible to know which versions are the latest, etc.
