Macbook Air interrupted firmware update now bricked, help!

My friend has attempted a firmware update on her Mid 2012 13" Air (MacBookAir5,2), I'm afraid not sure which update it was.
Anyway, the battery was completely flat and she says she attempted the update after the magsafe power had only been plugged in for a short time.
Now it is continuously trying to install firmware update, press power button to turn on, it runs through update then shuts down, when you then press power button to start up it just goes through the process again (5 times so far).
I can't see a way to re-install the firmware as you seem to need a Mac with an optical drive.
Ran OSX utilites and repaired disk, no errors.
Ran Apple Hardware Test via internet all OK, no errors.
I'm running out of ideas of what to try next.
Thanks in advance

There one thing you can try, but before we start, it may be a good idea to reset the SMC and PRAM. The first would be to try and reset the firmware. This can be done by starting with the computer off and then pressing and holding the power button down for about 30 seconds until you hear the POST gong and see the screen light up. if the progress bar pops up let the process finish and the computer restart. Hopefull it will boot in to the OS after that.
if you keep having issues you may want to contact Apple for the next steps.

  • MacBook Air SMC Firmware Update v2.0 update available again and again.  How do I fix it?

I have installed MacBook Air SMC Firmware Update v2.0 three times and I still get an update available notification asking to install it again.  This is a mid-13 MacBook Air running OSX 10.9.3.   System info lists the SMC version as 2.13f7.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

    Hi,
    - Are there any status or error messages in /var/log/install.log
    - The Firmware version it should install is 2.12f137
    - If there isn't anything in the log try:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    and/or About NVRAM and PRAM
and check whether there is installation.
If no install, try OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode
then reboot normal, try the install again.
    Hope this helps

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0

    Hello,
I receive regular updates of the "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0" software. Each time I download, restart and let the update install. Each time it says update istalled succesfully... Yet each time I get the upgrade notice.
Worse now, iTunes says there is a software upgrade. But when I want to download it again I get the EFI upgrade announcement, but not the iTunes upgrade downloaded...
I've done a complete maintenance run, repair, rebuild, etc... but same results.
Thanks for any hint on what may be going wrong or how I can fix this.

I copied the version number from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1331. That may be a misprint or typo on Apple's part. I'm posting a message asking about that in a special forum available only to level 4 or 5 users that sometimes gets replies from the folks that maintain those articles.
If I hear anything that confirms that, I will post back here, but for now I think it is safe to assume "B05" is correct.

  • Slow Booting time after installing MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 on 13 Inches Mac 2010 model

I'm experiencing a slow boot time after my computer installed a MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 itself on 13 Inches 2010 model, how to downgrade or fix it?
My computer is starting 2 times slower then it should be, why Apple done this to me?
Please help who really know somthing about Macs.

I have the same problem, especially when I open my laptop from sleep.  It takes at least 2 minutes for the computer Internet connection to work.
Never had that problem prior to the last firmware update 2.7.
Is there a way to revert back to 2.6?

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 Multiple Times

for about 6 months or longer now I keep getting the same software update every few weeks on my Macbook pro. it's 1.5.1. i've probably installed it 5+ times now, and now I just uncheck the box and do the other updates. how do i get rid of this darn thing, since i have already done it? now it's just starting to annoy me.

    Hi chuck,
Head to your "Utilities" folder and you will find that Software update has installed an application called "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update"
You should first restart your computer, disconnect any peripherals , and then run the application, following the instructions carefully along the way.
For safety reasons Software update doesn't actually install firmware updates like this itself . Instead it installs an installer. While I can understand the desire for safety, I reckon Apple could have been a bit better with the instructions on this one, as it is not at all apparent that this second step is required after running Software update to actually install the new firmware.
You aren't alone on this one. I've seen many, many posts here from people who haven't known that the second step was necessary and, accordingly, keep on getting new downloads of the installer from SU.
    Cheers

  • Macbook pro efi firmware update application

    Hi all,
I was wondering if there, by default, supposed to be a macbook pro efi firmware update app for the macbook pro. Because for me, there is not one present in my utilities folder.
On my other macbook, there is a macbook efi firmware update app.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ramy

    Hi Ramy,
a firmware update always comes with its own installer app when you download the update.
There is no 'default' installer app already on your Mac.
Once the firmware update has been made successfuly you can usually delete the installer from the utilities folder.
    Regards

  • Macbook pro EFI firmware Update 1.4 won't work, neither will software

I got two probs, not sure how related they are.
#1 is that I can't successfully do the macbook pro EFI firmware Update 1.4. My computer was bootcamped and kept restarting in windows - thus the update was not completed - the completion bar would pop up for an instant - i could not see if it had completed, i don't think so... and then it would flash back to black, and restart again. Upon restart the firmware update was still there as needing to be updated.
I've now taken bootcamp off and restored a single drive. It's doing the same thing and hasn't updated.
#2 is that DVD studio pro will not boot anymore after it has been working with no problems for over a year. Nor will Motion run although it has never worked. I have tried reinstalling multiple times and just today went to delete the preferences. No luck.
Any suggestions or better yet, solution, I'm ever so grateful.
    Cheers

I have the same problem. It's also important to note that, in my case, I'm running 10.7.2 (11C74), but it's a firmware update, so it shouldn't really matter if I'm running a beta version of Lion, should it?
