Macbook Air with Yosemite has repeated sleep/wake failures

My Macbook Air continues to have sleep/wake failure when I have closed the lid.

Hello beachloverlarry,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with sleep/wake issues. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:

I cannot answer regarding compatibility, but there is no download available for PSE6 if you would need one for this.  You might be able to copy the installation files from a disk to some other removable media that the machine accepts.  Upgrading to PSE7 would not be possible mainly because Adobe does not sell older versions of their software.

i have Macbook Air with Yosemite os but i can't transfer my file on ftp server

I'm confused how you think someone on Apple's discussion board can help you with what's clearly a Windows Server problem.
Surely this would be something better asked in a Microsoft support forum?

  • When I login to my bank, I get the message: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Have new MacBook Air with Yosemite. How to solve this problem?

When I try to login to the website of my bank, I get the following error message:
403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.
I have a new MacBook Air with OS Yosemite installed.
What is the problem and how can I solve it?

Some websites require a special client certficate for access. If you don't have that certficate, you'll have to contact the site operator to find out how to get one.
Sometimes the problem is caused by a web server that is configured to request an optional client certificate. Safari treats the request as mandatory. In that case, other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome may be able to connect to the site, because they ignore the request.
The first time you were prompted for a certificate, you may have clicked through a dialog that requested access to the Apple certificate in your keychain that is used to secure the iMessage service. In that case, you may be able to regain access to the site in Safari by doing as follows.
    Back up all data.
Double-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    com.apple.idms.appleid.prd
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Paste into the search field in the Keychain Access window by clicking in it and pressing the key combination command-V. An item may appear in the list of keychain items. The Name will begin with string you searched for, and the Kind will be "certificate."
Delete the item by selecting it and pressing the delete key. It will be recreated automatically the next time you launch the Messages or FaceTime application.
The next time you visit a site that prompts for an optional client certificate, cancel out of the prompt. You may have to do this several times before the server stops asking.

  • Can't Pair Phone with Macbook Air with Yosemite

I just upgraded to Yosemite and now I can't pair my iPhone 6 with my Macbook Air. I believe, and I may be wrong, that I have to have the devices paired via Bluetooth to have the features such s being able to answer my phone on my MacBook Air, or using my Air to make a call via my iPhone etc..
This will be the first time I have tried to pair them together.
Both my Phone and my MacBook Air show the other device. When I click on pair on the Air I get the message with the number, which shows on my phone as well, and then I click pair on the phone to accept, and then I get the error "Connection Unsuccessful" saying that my MacBook Air is not supported. Really?
Is this a fix coming with IOS 8.1?
    Anybody have an answer?

ok. I figured it out. Not the bluetooth part, still won't pair, but I have the "answering my iPhone" with my mac part figured out. I just had to turn on the "iPhone cellular calls" option under FaceTime settings.

  • Macbook Air late 2008 boot and sleep/wake issues

First off I have a booting issue. When I press the power button when it's off, the little front light comes on for a second, I hear the little non solid state hard drive spin up, then the little front light turns on again, but nothing else happens. The computer is definitely on since I can hear the fan, and it gets pretty hot after a while. Sometimes I'll get the startup sound and everything will be fine after a very long wait, like ~15 minutes. Second I have a wake from sleep issue that I can't predict. Every once in a while, I'll try to wake the computer and the screen just stays blank, not doing anything. The light in the front stops pulsing and just stays solid, but the screen doesn't turn on. I've noticed that sometimes I can predict when these things will happen since before I shut it down or put it to sleep, the battery will be X'd out, saying I have no battery connected, even when I'm not connected to a power source. I've already tried resetting the power management and resetting the PRAM. This is a very annoying issue and makes the computer very unreliable. Has anyone had similar issues or has been able to come to a solution?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If the hard drive does not appear in the DU sidebar list then it has died and will have to be replaced. No need to proceed beyond this point.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • I run Outlook for Mac on my Macbook Air (with Yosemite). I need to sync my Outlook calendar with my iPhone and iPad - is there a way or app available ?

Syncing Outlook for Mac calendar with iPhone & iPad

Veranda Magazine is a free app available for iOS devices in the iOS App Store.  You then purchase a Veranda Magazine subscription from within the app.  In other words, the app itself is free, but the contents are not.
There is no way to duplicate or import this to a Mac.  Your Mac runs a totally different operating system.
iBooks can now import to Mac since OS X Mavericks came out about a month ago.  But that does not apply to magazines or iOS Newsstand publications.

  • Safari on my new Macbook Air with Yosemite keeps redirecting to other sites

Whenever I click on anything, safari will just open a new tab and some irrelevant site will appear. Zipcloud.com, Mackeeper.com, and Wix.com are popular sites that keep opening and this is very annoying. I have tried various antivirus software and have been trying to find a solution for a long time now, and a lot of the time, the method is for an older version of the OS. I have tried reseting safari too, but there is no reset button anywhere, which seems to be something only introduced in the Yosemite update. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks.

This didn't come from upgrading to OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite.

  • Macbook air java (yosemite 10.10.3) java help

Hi, I have a mid 2013 macbook air with Yosemite 10.10.3 using java 8.45.  i am trying to log into my employers remote desktop site and the java applet that is supposed to pop up is not popping up.  it gives an error.  i have searched the net and tried things such as giving permissions to the employers website in the java console but nothing seems to work.

    Hi Gixxter,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into an issue loading a webpage on your MacBook Air because it requires a specific version of Java. Take a look at the article linked below which will help you get the latest version of Java directly from Oracle or a legacy version Java from Apple.

  • TS4209 Macbook Air with OS X 10.8.2 not automatically connecting to known wifi network after sleep

Macbook Air with OS X 10.8.2 not automatically connecting to known wifi network after sleep

If you are using WEP as a security on your router that is why it won't connect. WEP is so old school and very insecure that Apple has made it so there WiFi cards won't connect to WEP. It might as well be wide open. You can try that. Take all security, WEP/WPA/WPA2, off your router and see if it connects.
If it does then use either WPA or better WPA2.

  • I have a MacBook Air with OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. The "cut" function is available in "Edit" but not active upon any file selection. What to do to have it active?

I have a MacBook Air with OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. The "cut" function is available in "Edit" but not active upon any file selection. What to do to have it active?

You cannot; it's intentionally disabled to guard against accidental file loss. If you press Option when pasting the files, they'll be moved instead of copied.

  • Macbook Air 2012 goes back to Sleep immediately after waking it up

So I have had this 13inch Macbook Pro for about a month and in that time it has done this about twice already. In order to get it working again I have to wake it up the second time and then it works fine.
I have done the SMC  and PRAM reset but that does not seem to help. This usally happens when the Mac is connected to a power supply and goes to sleep by itself after some inactivity. Would like to know if anyone is having a similar issue, if so did you found any solution? Thanks in advance. Just to clarify I am working on a 13 inch Macbook Air with 256GB SSD and using Mountian Lion 10.8.

Have also had this issue since purchase. Have tried most solutions, including restoring from a time machine backup file, to no avail.
The issue always happens like this:
    1) plug computer in with screen open.
    2) macbook air goes to sleep on its own
    3) come back to use computer later (usually a few hours later) and take computer off power supply.
    4) computer works fine for about 2 minutes
    5) computer screen dims for about 2 seconds and then the computer goes to sleep
    6) have to hit space bar repeatedly to wake computer up
    7) Computer runs normally until plugged in again and then the whole issue starts all over again from step 1.
    Anyone help?
    Am running 10.8.4. 2ghz Intel Core i7, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD, 11.6" Macbook Air (purchased June 2012)

  • Yosemite - Sleep Wake Failure - MBP Late 2013

    Hi,
I have the following MBP which is currently running Yosemite V10.10.2
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite I get persistent crashes when the machine wakes from sleeping. It's very intermittent, sometimes it'll be fine for days and others it will happen a few times per day. Either way it's very frustrating.
It results in the laptop simply being switched off when I reopen the lid and I have to start again by pressing the power button. Or it has rebooted already and is back at the login prompt. Again, there is no clear pattern when either of those happens though.
The applications I run every day and are usually open when it happens are Chrome and VMWare Fusion 7 running a single VM with Windows8. I also have iPhoto and Eclipse open more often than not.
I've searched the forum and a few people seem to be experiencing similar but not exactly the same symptoms. A search on the reported code doesn't return any results. I've tried a PRAM reset but I get the same behaviour.
Is there any way of diagnosing exactly what's causing this?
    Many thanks,
    Lee

  • Updated my Macbook Air to Yosemite and now IMessage won't open pictures

I updated my Macbook Air to Yosemite a few days ago and since then IMessage has been acting up. It won't let open pictures now. A picture comes through titled "IMG_2882" but when I click on it, it comes up with a description of the image - the type of image, when it was last modified, etc. I click the 'Open with Preview" option and nothing happens. I'm regretting updating to Yosemite now. Is anyone else having this issue? I have no idea how to fix it. Please let me know if you have any ideas! Thank you!

If it is the third party apps crashing - try downloading another app - any free app is fine. See if that resets the other apps.
