Macbook pro 2014 retina 13 inch memory upgrade to 16gb which memory do i need to buy?

I have bought resently a macbook pro 13inch retina. i went for 8gb ram and do CAD and 3d aplications. need to upgrade to 16gb ram. i do not find anywhere not even on apple store, where you can buy RAM but not still for new model. so question, anybody knows which memory i need? clearly 2x8GB moduls but which type DDR3? etc
Greatful for any help
Saludations Nicky

That MacBook Pro is perfect for you, and I don't think that you need a 15-inch MacBook Pro, even if it's more powerful than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. There are some important differences between the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display and the 15-inch MacBook Pro, like the graphic card or the processor, but if that MacBook works properly, continue using it

  • Macbook Pro with retina 13-inch - should I have gone for the 15?

Hi I recently bought a 13-inch Macbook pro with retina display. I am delighted with it. My main usage is
1.Word processing - this is what I basically use it for (translating, text editing, heavy email)
    2. Examining photos to see if they are suitable for publication - don't need any special software
    3. Browsing the web (a lot!)
    4. Plan to learn In Design (software) so I can help out my colleagues. (Nothing too intensive, maybe 3-4 pages a month).
    5. Watching movies and listening to music while on the go (or even at home)
    6. Using Parallel for Windows 7 (3-4 applications only)
I heard that the 15-inch one is more powerful. Did I make a good choice or should I have bought the 15-inch one. It seemed a bit heavy for me at the time I saw it but  no-one told me it was so much more powerful. I have the basic late 2012 model with 128GB SSD but also have a light 1TB hard drive and superdrive.
Please reassure me that I have not made the wrong decision but if you think I have, then tell me. I am a first-time Mac user, and coming from a Vaio X (which recently died) the power of this thing seems awesome!!

  • Indesign CS 6 on Macbook Pro 2014 Retina pixelated

I use Indesign CS 6 on a brand new Macbook Pro with retina display. I updated Indesign on 8.0.2 but it's really pixelated. In Photoshop and Illustrator everything is really pin sharp. Has anybody an Idea how to fix that problem?

Sorry Steffi, I can not change this for you. It seems there is a technology push on HiDPI that causes all software developers to release updates. As a end user it's hard to get a machine without HiDPI now a days. Hope you still have fun being creative with the software. Have a good day!

  • Can't iMessage or text from Macbook Pro (2014 Retina)

I am having issues with iMessage on my mid-2014 Retina Macbook Pro. I cannot use iMessage as it sends from my email not my phone number. My iMessage account on my iPhone uses the same email address as I have entered on my Macbook iMessage account and for some reason it still shows as a different person when I message from my Mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am currently running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B23, Pre-relase version beta). One of my friends is also running a pre-release version of Yosemite and has no issues.

Boot from your system CD, run Disk First Aid from your Disk Utility and repair your permissions.

  • Macbook Pro 2014 Retina display unexpectedly going black

Hello. I have had my 13" Macbook Pro running OS X Version 10.9.5 for a little over a month now and randomly throughout the day, the display will suddenly go black and when I move the mouse, the log-in screen will appear. It has happened while using various apps, so I don't believe it is something app-related. This last time, I was simply tapping the "up" arrow on the keyboard when it happened, so it's not a trackpad gesture either. Has anyone else had this issue while working? Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. It's in warranty, so you should use your warranty.

  • I am thinking of being a new macbook pro with retina but after reading the problems with overheating would i be better of buying a dell ??

i am thinking of buying a macbook pro retina 15 but after reading reports of this overheating am i better of buying a dell ?? i already have a imac that has started to overheat when put to sleep unless i close safari down.

Good grief no. I've just done a consulting job that involved Dells, and if you think there are some issues with Apple, wait until you try to deal with Dell. The tech support is awful, they transfer you 4 times then hang up. The product is marginal at best. Google that if you want confirmation.
While Apple machines have had some issues on specific models, for the most part my experience has been very favorable. Especially if you have Applecare. Take the computer in if you have a problem and let the Genius Bar fix it for you.
Your "overheating" issues are probably due to something like Flash running in the background, which just continues to grow in size and suck up machine resources the longer it's on.

  • Macbook pro 2014 vs 2015? HELP!

so i wanted to make a purchase for a Macbook Pro, my friend said that i should get the macbook pro 2014 retina display, instead of the newest one and avoid all the fees reasons being i want to play games (not huge graphic games) like second life and The sims 4 on my device, I'm huge on graphics and i hate choppy games, my friend says that the Haswell Processor 2014 macbook pro is enough for my needs rather then getting the macbook updated version, soon the prices will drop for the 2014 edition and i can get the Macbook i want for a affordable price.... any tech savvy people got any advice... oh and i don't want the macbook air lol

Apple doesn't sell the 2014 MacBook Pro anymore (maybe they do on amazon or ebay or something). I would go for the newest one if I was you.

  • 15" Macbook Pro with Retina Display Lock

Can someone recommend me a good solution for physically locking my 15" Macbook Pro with Retina Display? I'm going off to college soon and need to be able to tie the computer up to my desk.
I have a plastic case on my MBP and would definitely want to keep it on. Also I would like to have a solution where it's not going to be off-balnced on one side as I've seen with some products online. I have major OCD so I am looking for the most close to perfect option that doesn't take away from the beauty of the MBP or the physical functionality of the computer. Also, I am definitely not looking to screw anything to the MBP, to be clear.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Can I buy a MacBook Pro 15" Retina, at a US Apple store, with Portuguese keyboard?

I am in the process of buying a MacBook Pro 15" Retina laptop; although based in Dallas, TX I have a strong need for portuguese keyboard, which I cannot order online (Spanish is the closest offering, but not close enough).
Can I buy a MacBook Pro 15" Retina laptop, with Portuguese keyboard, at an Apple store?

I went to an Apple Store, near my house. One of the employees showed me that she could not order it either (sorry, looks like it is really not an option within US).
She offered an alternative / fix: she could order a Portuguese wireless keyboard, that can be connected via Bluetooth.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1270 does installing aftermarket RAM into new macbook pro non-retina void apple warranty

does installing aftermarket RAM into new macbook pro non-retina void apple warranty

Only for the RAM which should be covered by the manufacturers/vendors warranty.  Now if you damage the MBP while installing the RAM then you may find yourself voiding the MBP warranty.  But ir does take a lot to do that.
    Ciao.

  • Can MacBook Pro 2014 non-retina upgrade ram to 16G

I wonder if my MacBook Pro 2014 non-retina can be upgraded myself to have 16G ram. Do anybody know that?

I assume that you have a 13" (2012) model.  If so you may install 16 GB RAM.
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MD101LL/A&step=config
Even though Apple says 8, the MBP will recognize 16 GB.  The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    ciao.

  • MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display 15-inch 2012 making strange cricket-like noise (only when plugged in)

Hi guys, I have a year old retina MBP. Recently, it just started making this high-pitched whirring cricket-like sounds. Although pretty quiet, the sound is pretty annoying. This sound has a few strange characteristics that make it hard for me to pin it down to any component:
    - the sound only occurs when laptop is PLUGGED IN, when my laptop is not plugged (on battery), there is no sound
    - reducing the screen brightness, reduces the sound but does not make it go away (even with no backlight, the sound is still there)
    - the sound occurs mostly when performing going into MISSION CONTROL or swiping between desktops. It also sometimes happens randomly, but that is less common. It follows the inputs of trackpad and keyboard, though mostly mission control swipes and desktop changes. It doesn't coincide with intensive CPU, GPU, RAM or SSD tasks (ie running a CPU/GPU heavy app, or compressing a file does not increase the quantity of sound)
    - I am not very sure where the sound originates from, might be from the top left of the keyboard (q key), but it is also louder near the speakers.
    ALSO:
    - It is not from the fans, as they occur when fans are running slow or fast and this sound is unaffected by any changes in fan speed
    - reducing backlight has no effect
    - turning automatic graphic off or on has no effect
    - resetting NVRAM, etc. has no effect
    Most likely theory:
    - some kind of faulty capacitor maybe?
         - but then which part of the laptop to replace....
    - I don't have Applecare, but I do have a third-party warranty; they've agreed to replace the faulty part...
    - I've read the forums and have seen people with similar problems (though never this exactly; replacing fans and logic board does not seem to help)

    guiparent,
whether it’s worth the price or not is an entirely subjective opinion. My own choice was to buy a used non-Retina 13-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and replace its hard drive with a SSD; but since I don’t use graphic-intensive apps such as the Adobe Creative Suite, my own choice would most likely not be best for you. Given your graphic design background, if you find the non-Retina displays sufficient for your needs, I’d recommend that you consider a used 15-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. That model has memory sockets, so you can replace/upgrade the RAM if needed; its internal disk can be replaced by/upgraded with any 2.5-inch 9.5-mm-high SATA hard disk or SSD; and it has a built-in SuperDrive.

  • Which MacBook Pro with retina display ( 13 inch or 15 inch ? )

I can't decide which MacBook with retina display to buy. I'm switching to a Mac from a PC, but I am used to the Mac platform. So far I'm am thinking that, I will choose the 15 inch model, if apple would lower the price a lot at the upcoming event WWDC 2013. But I would consider buy the 13 inch if apple rises the processor speed, offer more ram, and ssd, while keeping the same price.
    The 15 inch MacBook offers:
An extra 2 inches of screen space
Much faster ( quad core vs dual core )
    The 13 inch MacBook provides
    A compact design
    Dual core
    13 inches
    $1000 less
    For full comparison visit:  http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs-retina/
I will be useing this Mac for
Ios application developing ( Xcode, ios simulator ),
    Home use
    Web searching
    Sometimes at school
    Utilities
    And other usual stuff.
    So overall,
I won't be carrying this around much,
I will do lots of web searching and app developing,
And utilities and other usual stuff
And a need for extra screen space for more room when I'm web searching and app developing.
What do think? Also, would you reccomended any extra features ( extra ram, ssd, or a higher processor) for my needs.  This will be a great help, thank you. Ps. I have my fingers crossed for a new MacBook Pro lineup and WWDC 2013. I hope to see upgrades for the MacBook Pro with retina display, apple.

    Hi,
I am a researcher so I store a lot of papers, data, and use numerical software. I have had a 17inch high spec macbook pro for over a year now. I find that apart from the large screen, it was unnecessary to get the high specs. This is why. Firstly, the hard drive is easy to replace and upgrade, apple charge a lot for their own ones. Secondly, the ram in my one was upgradable (which i didnt know when i bought it) and i since upgraded to 16gigs from 8 and its amazing. Thirdly, the newer macbook pros run hotter than the previous ones.
The retina is overrated and the programs for retina need more memory and processing power, so what you find is that your hard drive will get taken over sooner, your mac will run hotter, and battery life lower.
I would say to you, dont worry about the processor speed, the normal speed offered is perfect, more than that is not necessary unless you are running highly demanding apps, the mac will run hotter too. Dont bother getting a large hard drive in the macbook. Get a flash SSD drive, and buy a good portable 2tb HD, like a WD one, and use that to store as much of your work as possible. I believe apple started soldering their ram cards to the motherboard or something so that people cant upgrade. Check in advance and see if the macbook you want can be ram upgradable, then get a lower ram model and buy good 8gb ram cards to make 16gig. Very very easy to install them, took me about two minutes to do mine, it will be much cheaper.
If I think of anything else i will post back. Dont forget to install GFX card status too and use integrated only when on battery, i get up to ten hours of battery life without wifi, around 8 with wifi.
edit. I forgot to mention that if you buy your mac and try to open it you will void the warranty.
