Macbook Pro and NVIDIA GeForce 320M HDCP Compliance

Anyone know if the NVIDIA card is HDCP compliant? I want to purchase an external blu-ray burner for my laptop but want to make sure it will work first. I have found limited tech specs on this card on-line.
D

Yes, it is HDCP compliant. I'm not sure that is a guarantee that what you want to do will work however.

  • DVI to Component video w/ MacBook Pro and NVIDIA GeForce 8600M card...

I just got a new MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M video card. On the NVIDIA website for the card, it states:
"Integrated HDTV encoder provides analog TV-output (Component/Composite/S-Video) up to 1080i/1080p resolution".
I have a Sony HDTV that only has component video (Y Pr Pb) inputs (the red/green/blue inputs). It is capable of HD up to 1080i.
If the NVIDIA card does output an analog TV (Component) signal, it should work. However, when I went to the place that sells the DVI-to-Component adapter, I got some bad news:
    See it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8V0YI/ref=pdluc_sbs_0202
I wrote a question to the Sewell folks about this product and asked this:
Will this work with the dual link DVI-I port on my macbook pro? Graphics card info: Nvidia 8600 GT 256MB of GDDR3 memory Here is the link to the card's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600.html
    They answered:
Unfortunately this will not work. While the GPU may support the function, the Mac Version of the cards do not implement the component signal.
I think they are still thinking about the older MacBooks that use the ATI chipset and don't know about the new NVIDIA cards.
Is component really not implemented in the new MacBook Pros?
I have the 17" model that has more VRAM than the 15" and I got the HD screen upgrade.
Does anyone know any solution that will work with the MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA chipset? As I said, I'm trying to output an HD signal from the DVI port on the MacBook Pro to component video input on my HD television.
    Thanks for the help.

Sorry, the website for the Sewell adapter is here:

  • Can apple release macbook pro with nvidia Geforce GTX 760

can you please add macbook pro a nvidia GTX 760 graphics card

No, we can't. We are users just like yourself
Seeing as how the nvidia GTX 760 is a graphics card for the PCIe bus structure which the MBP does not have, I think you chances of getting Apple to do that are right up there with the snowball in you know where.

  • HT203254 MacBook Pro 2007  NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT issues

I have a MacBook Pro from 2007 that all of a sudden went black.  Unfortunately it was out of warranty by one month when it happened.  What would be the least expensive way to replace the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphic processor.  Also, is there a way to use a different graphic processor?
Is it difficult to replace it by myself?  Thanks...

    Hi Reddmanz
How interesting! I posted a reply to you this afternoon asking about Mr. Cook and it appears it was never posted.
It appears a nerve has been touched - how strange. Fortunately I took a print of the discussion page so that's stuffed up their corporate effort - what a load of plonkers. I do have to deal with CEO's, SVP's and the like. All is well until their little apple cart is upset. I have no idea who, or should I say at what level, the editor is that makes these decisions. In most cases they have a lot to learn about corporate trust and public relations. It is highly likely that the person responsible is at a very low level. If he does not think so, he will when he reads this.
Ah well, no Steve to write to - it will have to be the other one - is his name Cook?
Best regards to all and do not get upset by one lowly corporate plonker.
    TY
PS To Mr. Plonker - I've been using and buying Apples since 1986 - probably a long time before you were born.
PPS I suppose you pull this before it goes out but at least you will have read it.

  • MacBook Pro met NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT-grafische processors: vervormd beeld of geen beeld (2007-2008)

Re: Artikel: TS2377, Apple website (MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues)
Specifieke producten waarop dit van invloed is:
MacBook Pro 15-inch en 17-inch-modellen met NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT-grafische processors
    MacBook Pro gebuikers opgelet!
    U bent gewaarschuwd.
    Bart Lensink

If your internal display works, it's not the nVidia problem.  The language in the article you quoted states that a non functioning internal "or" external display is an indicator of the problem.  That's a little misleading (and could be cause for confusion). In all cases, the internal display would have an issue.  If you also happen to have an external display, it would experience an issue as well.  If your internal display is functioning properly, your GPU is functioning properly.  Of course that still leaves you with getting your external display working.  Fortunately, the Bravia is a popular model and it is likely others here have used it and will hopefully chime in with their experiences.

  • 13" Macbook Pro and FCE4

I just bought a new stock 13 inch Macbook Pro with no upgrades at all.
I shoot video in standard definition with my Canon Optura 50 and HV20 Mini DV Tapes and download via Firewire 800 with adapter to Firewire 400.
Will Final Cut Express edit effectively with this computer. I know I can't run Final Cut Pro 6 because of my video card.

"NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory"
If I'm reading it right the "above" is in the "15 inch Macbook Pro" for something like $2,000.
My basic "13 inch Macbook Pro" has NVIDIA GeForce 9400M "WITHOUT" the 256 is what it looks like to me.
However both are apparently without Intel Integrated Cards it appears and can run both FCE and FCP.
Apple could have made that clearer at the" Store" above it seems to me.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 13inch 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, SD card slot, up to 10 hour battery life)bought in October 2010 in the UK. The charger has stopped working. Which model and voltage do I need please?

I have a MacBook Pro 13inch 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, SD card slot, up to 10 hour battery life) bought in October 2010. The charger has been playing up for a while now - the light going out but coming back on when I move the cable a bit - faulty connection it seems. It has now stopped working at all.
Apple UK charge a whopping £65 for a replacement - and the reviews are AWFUL for it!
I need to know which one I need - 45w, 60w and 80w are listed - can someone tell me please? If I'm going to pay this price I want to make sure I get the right one!
Also, is a genuine Apple one available on Amazon UK, does anyone know please?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Meanwhile my battery is going down.....

Thanks for that wjosten. Much appreciated.
I've read here on Apple's site that the 85W version will work, as you say, and that it would run cooler with a 13" Macbook - I have a 13" MBP of course but assume this would be the same with mine. I wonder if running cooler is a good thing (it sounds as if it is) and it would be better for me to get the 85W version than the 60W one?
Then I have to decide whether to pay the (extortionate as it seems to me, though I may be wrong) £65 from Apple (bearing in mind the rotten reviews here of the Apple product), or risk a cheaper alternative from Amazon UK, at around £20 (also with various rotten reviews)... Any suggestions? Please? :-)

  • Problem with Starcraft 2 and Macbook Pro 13" Nvidia 320M

Just got the newest 2.4Ghz 13" MBP with 320M video card.
Played Starcraft for about a week and started noticing severe issues:
    1. sudden frame rate drop, then after about a week,
    2. random tears and jagged lines over the screen when playing
This now almost happens every time the game is played on 1200x800 regardless of quality settings. When I change it to 1024x768, the problem goes away.
I'm guessing it might be a defective video card (transistors blown?).
What do you guys think, is it a hardware defect? I got this computer in Asia with receipt, will Apple stores in Canada honor the warranty? Please help!!

    PowerBook 12 wrote:

Well, from what you write it sounds as if the game has issues running at high resolution settings on your MacBook Pro 13".
NVIDIA GeForce 320M uses an integrated chipset graphics card with the Core 2 Duo CPU. It lacks dedicated graphics memory but uses the systems main memory instead (in Mac OS X 256 MB from the main memory). Performance is not as good as 15" or 17" MacBook Pro which have dedicated GPU with memory. So you may well find that games perform best at lower lower than the max 1280x800 for the laptop.
If you think you have a hardware issue with your MacBook Pro 13" then run the Apple hardware test (AHT), procedure is listed in your laptops end-user documentation. If it fails AHT then Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service provider are the way to proceed (Apple laptops come with a one-year world wide warranty). But if it passes and your graphics issue is specific to SC2 then you have isolated an issue with the game running on your laptop.
If an issue with the game running in OS X I would definitely check that the laptop firmware and OS X are up to date, Apple recently issued an OS X graphics update that fixed some SC2 issues, and also regularly issues OS X updates to fix known issues we are at (OS X 10.6.4).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4286
Give your feedback to Blizzard customer support about game performance under OS X. Finally, I would bear in mind that Blizzard release OS X and Windows versions of SC2, so it may be worth trying the game run in Windows by Bottcamp on the laptop and seeing if game performance improves (this is also a good test for whether you have a hardware or software issue here).

Why can't I use my mid 2010 macbook pro with 8GB memoir and NVIDIA GEForce GT 330M 256MB to run 3D in photoshop CC?

    3-D is very memory intensive.
    System requirements | Photoshop
    Mac OS
Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
    Mac OS X v10.7, v10.8, or v10.9
2 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended)
3.2 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
1024x768 display (1280x800 recommended) with 16-bit color and 512 MB of VRAM (1 GB recommended)**
    OpenGL 2.0–capable system
Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, membership validation, and access to online services.*
** 3D features are disabled and some Mercury Graphics Engine enhanced features may not work with less than 512 MB VRAM. Read the Help article.

If it does, call Apple Customer Relations or print out a copy of the article and bring it in to the repair shop.

  • I used an HDMI cable to connect my MacBook Pro and my TV, however, my computer won't recognize that my TV is connected. What do I need to do to be able to watch a movie from my Mac on my TV screen?

My Macbook doesn't have an HDMI port, so I bought a converter. So I now I have my HDMI connected to my Mac and my TV. The problem is, I can't figure out how to make my computer screen show up on my TV. Do I need to download different software or update something? Or is it as easy as changing a setting?
When I go to my display settings, my computer screen shows up as an option, but my TV does not. I don't think my computer is reading it is connected. Please help me.
I will openly admit that I don't know very much about computers, so if you can help me, please break your explaination down for me. This is the info for my Mac:
    I have a Macbook Pro 13-inch,
    Mid 2010 OS X
    Version 10.9.3
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB

I am assuming that you are using a Mini Display to HDMI converter and then a HDMI cable.
Have you opened System Preferences>Displays and selected Detect Displays?
    Ciao.

  • Flickering screen on 13" MBP 2010 with NVIDIA GeForce 320M

Did anyone experience display issues with his / her 13" MacBook Pro (2010) with NVIDIA GeForce 320M? I've been using mine for several weeks and every now and then, the display starts flickering and I have no clue why. Unfortunately, the problem is not easily reproducible and the hardware test from the shipped DVD doesn't report any problem.

I did no longer experience the issue unfortunately / fortunately. No idea what was causing it.
My MacBook Pro is now at Gravis for repair because the left command key keeps popping out. According to the technician there the key itself is broken and he doubts that I can have it repaired under warranty. Questionable quality if keys break during normal usage. It's also the first keyboard in my life that breaks and I really don't hammer on the keys. Maybe I will end up ordering a replacement key on eBay.

  • Strangely pixelated Graphics with 13'' 2010 Macbook Pro and Lion

I have not noticed a particular pattern to the problem, but My Macbook Pro, at certain times, displays various graphical elements as very pixelated; this problem did not appear under Snow Leopard but has appeared on two clean installs of lion; I first noticed it in 10.7.2, but it has continued through the past two updates.
    Macbook Pro 7,1 (Mid-2010 13'' Macbook Pro)
    2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo
    8 Gb Ram
    Nvidia Geforce 320M
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
I attached Screenshots-on the mission control screenshot, look at the Chrome and Finder Icons, and on the Chrome one, look at the left tab at the top; While I have seen the issue in other places ie other graphics in Finder, as well as icons in Chrome and Safari, I couldn't obtain screenshots of these; the basic issue, however, is that various graphics all appear like the ones in the mission control screenshot.  I am unsure if this is a software problem, or more likely a hardware/driver problem.  Has anyone else experienced this issue and/or know of a fix for it?  Thank you.
Update- I have noticed a similar issue with the same model that other people have had, but my particular pixelation appears to look somewhat different.

    IamAndrewWilson,
I have the same model MacBook Pro that you do. Have you tried booting from your Mac OS X Install DVD, to see if you can use the keyboard at that point?

  • Drivers for NVIDIA Geforce 320m (Windows 7).

I've got my new MBP 13", but i don't have a cd with the bootcamp drivers for the video card, because I've lost my recovery DVD. So i'm seeking help with that. I wonder where can i get these drivers, because NVIDIA ones, even beta, not supporting this chip yet. Maybe i can get a recovery dvd iso or dmg somehow. I've got bootcamp 3.0 and 3.1 update installed on my windows machine, but still no luck, because the 3.1 version is dated mid january and my MBP is mid 2010.

Somewhat related, my 13" MacBook Pro with BootCamped XP freezes when I open up BootCamp from the control panel and move the brightness slider/window around. To fix this, I'm trying to install the newest NVidia drivers.
With a NVIDIA GeForce 320M display card installed, trying to install the newest NVidia drivers on XP, I continuously get an error say "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
One way to solve this, as suggested by someone on another forum, was to install the drivers manually, and at the 99%~100% during installation, when it shows the error message "Your installation cannot continue, will revert back to your old display drivers when you click OK" at which point I don't press OK, but immediately hold the power button down for 5 seconds, after I re-boot, my new drivers work fine.
    Except,
I can't control brightness from the control panel's bootcamp slider, nor keyboard shortcuts, it's continuously 100% brightness.
I've been working on this problem for 2 days, and I can't yet properly install the new NVidia drivers into XP. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
