Macbook Pro charger shorting out.

When I attach the chord to my Macbook Pro, is becoming  harder to get it to charge. I have to move around the chord until it hits just the right spot and if I move my computer, it stops charging.  Sometimes it won't turn on at all and if I take out the battery and put it back in, it will turn on or if I unplug the chord and plug it back in it will start. But, sometimes that won't work.  It is very hit and miss.  The warranty expired at the end of May.   I don't think it is the chord. I think it is the computer.

> listed as Macbook Pro on Ebay<
Typically the "L" shaped chargers were for the MacBook Pro but I've had no problem using them with the MacBook.
I think the only time you'd get into a problem is when you tried to use, say the 45 Watt charger on a machine that needs the 85 Watt charger or the 60 Watt charger.
Looking at all my chargers. We have 2 MBPs and two MacBooks. There are 3 A1184 chargers running the MB and 1 MBP and a 1344 running this MBP . All are 60 Watt.
The 45 W was for the MacBook Air.
That post from China reads:
>45W 60W 85W<
However if you look closely that charger says "45 Watts"! So that would be for the MBAir but it has a Magnasafe connector on it like a MBP.
Look here, this the charger they're selling:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2V51AW2594
and this post from Brian Caslis:
Danger using > 45-watt power adapter on MacBook Air?
" You would not use a 45W adapter with that computer; it would not provide enough power for that MacBook."
So then NO.

  • Macbook pro charger- burning out.  surveyish?

i have already swapped my macbook pro charger out twice, as after 2 months they tend to stop working, and the problem is the little place where the wire meets the magnetic connector. i know that bending it ruins its durability and life, so i tried to not do that. i thought i did it pretty successfully, until my first charger burnt out after it got extremely hot. it would stop charging for periods at a time, and there were places in the wire, specifically where it met the power brick and connector, where you could see right to the copper/ whatever the **** material it is because it got so hot that it melted the plastic. the apple store has replaced it twice, and i am about to go in for the 3RD charger. does anyone have a recommendation on something that would hold the wire still inbetween the connector and full wire? and who else has had this problem? there isnt a problem with the mbp, its just the connectors suck as5 and blow out.

    Ditto over here.
My connector-cable junction has always been slightly twisted. It's a more complex curve than just a twist, but wasn't perfect from the factory for sure.
The plastic jacket has now just torn this week and there's braided shielding and lots of unsavory bits showing.
Oh, and it started to singe a cushion it was touching. It was starting to burn.
Very antithetical to the "It just works" vibe.
"It just burns" is more like it. =:o
Seems like this particular Achilles heel didn't get much field testing before it was unleashed.
Wasn't the Mag-Safe connector supposed to put an end to the whole problem of a $3,000 laptop being felled by a $1.79 connector/jacket on the AC adapter?
I'm on batteries four and five as of this writing, so the topic of power management and the MBP is getting to be a rather sore subject.
Will try to swap it out at work or might have to belly up to the Genius Bar.

  • MacBook Pro Charger - Intermittantly Stops Working

    Hi All,
I have had my macbook pro now for just over a year and unlucky for me im 20 days out of my 1 year warrenty and now not entitle to upgrade to apple care because of this when i phoned techincal support
The macbook pro charger is working intermittantly so it isnt completely dead.
if i wiggle it around or sit the cables just right it will work but it isnt working 1005 off the time like it used to.
I have a 2010 macbook pro with the L shape charger. I have manager to get another old style T shape charger off my friend which works perfectly with my macbook pro but will this harm my battery life because im using an "older" charger? but its brand new. also do you think its worth going into my local apple store in milton keynes to see if they can help me at all? as my gripe is you pay £1000 for a laptop and one year on the charger brakes. And i do look after my equipment. Its not like i throw it about or mistreat it.
I think it could of happened early if i used it more.
    Is this a common fault?
    Thanks
    Daniel

If you have bought AppleCare Extended Warranty, MBP is in warranty for 3years
    from the date of purchase.
Best thing to do, is to take the MBP to the Apple store for evaluation and possible repair / replacement.
    Try Reset SMC.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

  • Macbook Pro Charger Broke

Well, i am under AppleCare and the lead coming from the little white box (from the charger) to the macbook pro has come out a bit so theres a bit of wire being exposed. Not very safe.
Just thinking would it cost if I took it to the Apple Shop to replace/fix it? If i handed the faulty one in and they gave me a working one? £56 for a charger is a bit much...

Thanks, obviously ive not delibrately pulled it but i dont know if it has come out say when ive moved the charger or when it might of snagged on something?

  • Macbook pro 2012 short battery

My new Macbook pro 15" 2012 arrived today. I charged mine to 100% but the longest I could get my macbook pro last was less than 2 hours. In the setting it shows a charge cycle of 2. Do I have a faulty battery or is this normal for a new macbook pro?

Since your Macbook Pro is new out of the box, spotlight is probably still indexing your drive.
Give it a couple of days at least before you can determine if your battery is defective.
Keep it plugged in and work with your Macbook for a couple of days.
Also check what's going on in your activity monitor under all processes.  See what's using up the highest % CPU and you can highlight it and hit quit process.  To increase the life of your battery.
Another thing is to turn bluetooh off if you don't need it.
Turn of infrared receiver if not in use to save your battery life.  Preferences - security and privacy - advance - put a checkmark on disable remote control infrared receiver.
good luck and enjoy your macbook...

  • Why won't my MACBOOK PRO charge anymore

Why won't my MACBOOK PRO charge anymore, I am living in China and my 8 month old MACBOOK PRO won't take a charge!! It has now gone flat and I am out of a computer. I bought a new charger but that didn't work. This is ridiculous!!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To check that the battery is damaged, open System Information or System Profiler (in /Applications/Utilities), choose Power in the sidebar, and copy here "Charge Information" and "Health Information". You can also check your battery status in the battery menu, on the menu bar. If its status is Replace Now or Service Battery, take your MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller to have the battery replaced for free.
If you don't see any of those messages, do a SMC reset > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • MacBook Pro charger overheating.

MacBook Pro charger overheating replaced it and new one is overheating also don't know if its the charger causing the the problem.

Yikes!  I assume you mean that thing some people use to smooth out their clothes?
Are you still under warranty?  I would take it in to make sure it's not something on the computer side.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • Are there any new Macbook pro laptops coming out soon?

Are there any new Macbook pro laptops coming out soon? Because if there are i will wait to buy one.

    Applecomputer53 wrote:

There are always new MacBook Pro models coming out soon. However with current 2011 models you can install the faster, Rosetta program loving OS X Snow Leopard with a hack, instead of the new clitchy and unstable OS X Lion.
So you have a choice now, but for not much longer. If you wait another 6 -8 months, Lion will be stable and more programs will be compatible with it.
If this is your first Mac, I would wait. If you can do a simple hack with another Snow Leopard Mac, then you can opt to get one now and revert it to Snow Leopard and have a stable machine.
Else take your chances with Lion.
