MacBook Pro messaging reset

My MacBook pro is no longer allowing me to us messaging to sync my number and send and recieve message from my phone number. Is there a way to reset messaging on my computer to get back to original settings?
I have seen suggestions of manually adding my phone number, but everytime I have tried the number goes away after pressing enter.

Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running.
Step 1
Hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (either may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.Messages
Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in. Try Messages again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
Step 2
If you still have problems, quit Messages again. Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
Test. If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place, and continue.
Step 3
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
com.apple.iChat
com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
com.apple.imessage
com.apple.imservice
Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post again.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of steps 2 and 3, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.

  • MacBook Pro 15" resets when Airport Utility opens

My 2011 Macbook Pro randomly resets throughout the day.
This seems to be only when on the internet and every time the Airport Utility opens.
I've re-installed the software and switching the WiFi off will allow the computer to start.

Thanks, Tim. I will try your suggestions. I've been tinkering on my own with this problem, and a pattern may be emerging. I was asking myself, why DID I have internet access from the MacBook Pro the other evening and at no other time through a wireless connection since the 10.6 upgrade, save the fleeting moments when AirPort has just been turned on? Well, that seems to be the only time that the MacBook was connected to AirPort FIRST.
So, I turned AirPort off on this computer (the G5 tower that hasn't experienced problems) and toggled off and on AirPort on the problem machine. Internet access has again resumed on the laptop. After several hours of periodic usage, I turned AirPort back on on the G5, and both machines have been functioning well since.
I suspect tomorrow will be a different story, unless I repeat these steps (I don't typically shut down the desktop machine overnight). We'll see.

  • MacBook Pro Random Resets

I've been having this problem recently where my macbook pro randomly resets every now and then. I've never been able to do it whilst in OSX, only in windows. So far its only happened whilst I'm playing games in Windows but even then only a few games that I own.
It happens whilst I'm playing world in conflict, medieval 2 total war but not during oblivion, company of heroes or supreme commander. So I'm not really sure what could be wrong.

I am having this problem too. Here are my preliminary thoughts on the problem. When I play Command and Conquer 3, the computer just shuts off. At first, I thought this had to do with the logic board. I had just gotten it replaced via AppleCare. So I read my console log and the computer shuts off ecause of "high mem tramps".
Because of this, then i thought it was my ram modules being bad. (I have Apple supplied ram. 2 gigs matched pair.) So i took the ram modules out. ran them individually, switched them. Still random shutdowns.
So then i tried to localize my problem with my external peripherals. I have a 250 gb lacie external hard drive triple interface as well as a 750 gb western digital mybook external hard drive pro edition.
I think this is where the problem lies. i've localized my problem to my WD MyBook Pro Edition II 750 gb hard drive. When I have it connected to my computer, I can't run anything that requires any strain on my graphics card. However, when I disconnect it from the computer, I can run things completely fine.
Having said this, I'm not sure if this is exactly my problem. If anyone else wants to weigh in on this discussion, PLEASE HELP!!!
NOTE: My computer resets when i try to run the itunes visualizer. I also have the itunes music folder set to my mybook hard drive.

  • Macbook pro time reset too 12:00am 2001

when i turned on my macbook pro this morning I got a message saying that the clock was set to a date earlier than 2008 (the actual date was 1/1/01) and this may cause problems. I also got a load of messages asking me to authorise a load of things ive never heard of network access.
I gave everything network access just so I could connect to the internet and post this and I had to type my network key in again
    what could have caused this??

    It's still there . . . .
Be advised - I'm a programmer, and often cause issues with my machine due to bad code. The system itself is clean, however.
I highly recommend running Time Machine, then you can always go back and undo what you did/get what you need. In addition, I clone to an external HD, then I can boot to it and do almost anything I want to mess it up, and still just reboot to my "good" internal HD (or vice versa).
Here's the system log for the event in question. Sequence of events:
    - Shut down machine (I usually sleep it)
    - Machine has 30% battery
    - Left overnight - still has about 30% battery in the morning
    - Power on - clock has been reset.
For reference, my machine name is arumi:

Not sure why that would blow the clock away, but there you go.
    Faulty? Return unit to Apple?
I don't claim to understand the entirety of that log (or even most of it). Gut feeling is it's not a MBP hardware issue.
Are you running wireless or ethernet cable?
What kind of modem and/or wireless router are you running?
I ask, because I had an issue somewhat similar about the same time as the OP and you did. It turns out that my modem/router (2Wire brand supplied by ATT) automatically did a firmware update and messed up a number of my settings (which was rather tedious to figure out). Have never had that happen before. Don't know if it was isolated to that brand and/or ATT, or if it was in response to some new internet issue. Suspect I'll never know the answer to that, but I do know the issue happened and it was due to the modem/router update.
Note that date/time are usually set automatically via internet, so it seems there could be some connection.
I don't know if any of this has any bearing whatsoever, but I find the timing interesting.
EDIT: It just registered to me that you are still in hardware warranty. If no resolution to this, I would contact Apple. Try AppleCare phone support, but if they won't deal with you because you're out of phone support's 3 month time allowance, can you get to an Apple Store? If so, call ahead for a "genius" bar appointment.

  • How to synch ipad, iphone4s, macbook pro "message"

"messages" doesnt show up on my list on MacBook Pro to synch with ipad and iphone. Why? and what can I do? thanks

    Hey kelster,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you wish to use iMessage across all of your devices. To do so, you’ll want to link your phone number to your Apple ID:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

  • Suddenly disconnection with my macbook pro. Resetting my connection did not work because of not accepting my correct password

During surfing on the net suddenly my wifi connection disappeared. I tried to reswet my connection in the system preferences. Via the airport diagnose the system asked my password of the airport extreme. Giving th correct password the answers was incorrect password.
Trying many times again no correct solution found. At the end I took the electricity from the extreme airport and started up again.
After the reconnection and the green operating light was visable the wifi operated complete correct without any resetting procedure and was surfing on the net normal possible. What could be the reason for the suddenly disconnection?

    Update:
I was able to fix my issue by using the lightning to 30 pin adapter cable. I initially connected my iphone 5 to the macbook pro by using the old usb cable, and the lightning add-on. Once i noticed that a connection was initiated, i then used the new usb cable and attempted to connect it to the macbook. This process worked for me, and i hope it does for you too.
    Thank you

  • How do I stop the Macbook Pro Messages application from sending things I receive to my iPhone 5c through Imessage?

My iPhone 5c is receiving the same messages that I've already read on my Macbook Pro and I would like to stop connecting my phone number to the computer. Is there a way to fix this? I am using IOS 1.7.2 if this problem has anything to do with my phone and that has any relevance.
Edit: I would not like to turn iMessage off on my phone, as I use it because a lot of the area I live in does not have service while we have wifi.

    Try this:
    1) On the Mac, open Messages and then open Messages Preferences
    2) In the left-hand pane, select your e-mail account that is receiving message.
    3) Uncheck "Enable this Account"
Let us know whether this worked or not.

  • Macbook Pro Messages fail

My Macbook Pro is logged in with my Apple ID.  Everything appears to be working. ie I get the message on my iPhone and iPad that "MacBook Pro is now logged into messages.", but when I send a message I get "not delivered" every single time.  Anyone have suggestions?
    -MEC

I should note that when I used the Install DVD, and I did make sure I usd the C key during startup to tell it where to boot from.  Also, with further thought, I'm pretty sure it's not Disk Utility that comes up when you use the Option key, but I'm blanking on what that is right now.  Sorry for any confusion.  Anyway, about using the Option key: I should also note that when I did use it, it recognized the CD, but my own hard drive wasn't recognized, i.e. not a possibility to select.
Again, if anyone could help, it'd be much appreciated!

  • Macbook Pro Messages won't work. Help?

Hello. I have a macbook pro running os Yosemite. I am trying to use my messages application, so I don't have to use my iPhone/iPad to text with iMessage. Everytime I launch the application on my mac, I sign in to my apple id. I am 100% sure I am right, the password and login ID are correct, but it keeps saying that it is wrong. I use the same apple ID as i do with my iPhone and iPad for iMessages. I tried going through preferences and logging in from there, but it still doesn't allow me to log in. I am running the latest ios for iPad mini 1.8.3, and 1.7 for iPhone 4 (my iPhone doesn't have any plans). Please any help .
It keeps saying "Messages can’t log in to <censored my email> because your login ID or password is incorrect."

    Hello MacUserNo.1,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are attempting to log into Messages on your Mac but are receiving an error that your Apple ID or password is incorrect. Even though you are sure that they are correct, it may be necessary to change your password to ensure a correct password. Please use the steps in the attached article to complete this process.

  • Why do my imessages from iphone not sync onto my macbook pro messages

Basically my iPhone 4 syncs perfectly to iPad, though my new MacBook Pro won't sync over any of the old messages... Help?

You can, but it's a bit involved and requires using an app.  Probably not worth it for only 5 contacts.  If you're interested in how you would do this, you would do the following:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  (If you have more than 500 contacts to transfer you will need the “Pro” version.)  Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone (from the other accounts) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars…tap each of the other accounts you are syncing contacts with and turn off contacts syncing with these accounts (otherwise you will see duplicate contacts on your device).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the other accounts back to your device, and to iCloud.

  • Macbook pro complete reset

I am getting the new macbook air this summer. I plan on giving my current macbook pro to a friend for school. How do I reset my current macbook so it could be used by a new user? I want to completely whipe every thing off it and so that they have to log in with their own information.

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps mentioned in this support article, take these steps:
Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted
If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
Erase the data partition(s) with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall  the original OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by booting into Internet Recovery (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from discs or a read-only USB key, deliver those to the new owner.
The new owner will have to repurchase the software, if need be, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer them either.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • 2015 Yosemite 10.10.2 MacBook Pro factory reset how can i do??

Help Help How can i factory reset my 2015 Yosemite 10.10.2 MacBook Pro??

Boot with command-R held down to the recovery partition. Then when it comes up, select utilities and then Disk Utility. In Disk Utility, erase your hard drive, and then install OS X, and you'll be back to "factory reset" condition.
Note you'll lose all data so you should have a backup of anything you want to keep on external media.

  • I can't download Firefox on my MacBook Pro message comes up saying I don't have access to some of the items

I download and then drag the icon into the application folder. Then a message comes up saying I don't have permission or access to some of the items. I have no idea what that means. My computer is MacBook Pro operating system 10.6.7

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • Service battery on mid-2009 MacBook Pro SMC reset safe?

I know that zapping the PRAM on a Mac with a low PRAM battery can cause all sorts of firmware issues.  Is resetting the SMC safer?
Being the Mac is 4 years old, and one of the Apple suggestions is an SMC reset to see if it really needs to be serviced, I just wanted to make sure I was safe to do so no matter what condition the PRAM battery was in.
If not, I'll just continue to use the machine until it says I need to actually replace the battery.
Note, this is a MacBook Pro with a non-user removable battery.

I might add it hasn't seemed to shorten the length of time it is running off of battery, but occasionally freezes unexpectedly only to free up if I wait a few seconds.  I've not had to force reboot.

  • If I were to take Lion off of my 2008 Macbook Pro by reseting it to factory defaults, and if I were to want it back, would I have to pay for the OS again?

I've got an early 2008 Macbook Pro, which I believe initially came with Leopard. I put Lion on it last year, but now I need to partition my hard drive with Windows XP, and to my knowledge, there is no way to partition anything but Windows 7 when using BootCamp.
I don't love Lion, it's OK. I could sleep at night if I parted with it.
If I ever wanted it back, could I download it without having to buy it again since I've bought it once already?

No, because you bought Lion before. When you buy Lion, you can install it whenever you want in all your Macs
