MacBook Retina users please post screenshots

My trusty 2009 MBP 17" just fried, I'll regret it except that it had become unbearably noisy... The old white macbook I borrowed is so much quieter, and it makes such a difference to my stress level at the end of the day, that for the replacement of the MBP I now look for the Retina, whose flash memory only, special unevenly spaced fan blades, new advanced design etc make me think that it's by far the quietest option. Just guessing.
The retina comes with this 2880x1800 screen. Since I highly doubt that Logic 9 will be ever retina compatible, I'm curious to see how it looks like "as is", see how legible it is, hear experience from users...
And of course I'd love to see a Logic benchmark on that new machine
Thanks !

mlehmann, you say
> Logic 9.1.7 is already Retina-compatible
and
> I don't see the point [in using Retina's 2880x1800 definition in Logic] since everything is way too small to be usable.
I thought that making an app retina compatible consisted in adapting the size of controls so that they would be usable on a high-def 15" screen. If not, in which way is Logic retina-compatible ?
I understad that you can reduce the retina display's definition to 1440x900 without any degradation since it just uses 4 pixels as one, but what about the 1920x1200 definition, is it usable with Logic ?
I wanted the shop to install Logic on their demo machine to let me test, but they say they don't have the right to do that. Intead they suggested that I come to the shop with Logic installed on an external HD. Trouble is, you can't install Logic on an external HD... so my only solution is to wait for existing users feedback
Thanks

  • For Macbook pro Retina and Macbook Air Users Please Help

    Hi
i Want Ask Macbook pro Retina and Macbook Air Users how use this macs both ( Only how use  both )
we sit many hours on laptop that will hurt our eyes
what the macbook less strain on eyes
what the best macbook screen not hurt our eyes
sorry my english is not good but i hope you understand me
i want only users how use the both of this macs
    thank you

People are different.  Not everyone experiences eye strain with an LED/LCD screen, or with a retina screen or any other kind of screen.  Some people do.
So no one here can possibly say how you will feel using either one - everyone is different.
You need to find some display models or something and try them yourself and see what you like and how you feel using them.  Anything anyone here has experienced is immaterial - all that matters is what you expereince and we cannot predict that for you.
I stare at computer screens all day long, and have done so for many, many years now.  I've never had a problem with matte LCD, glossy LCD (like my MBP), CRT, plasma or page white.  About the only problem I've ever had is occasionally dry eye, since everyone tends to blink less when concentrating on anything backlit for long periods of time.  Simple artificial tears deals with that, and just learning to stagger regular breaks.

  • TO ALL 7690m XT LAPTOP USERS - PLEASE POST TO SHOW HP WE WANT A REPLACEMENT OR REFUND

Hello,  I am starting this thread to show HP that we HP customers did not spend $1000+ for a giant paper weight.  I purchased my HP Dv7t on Feb 6, contacted HP by Feb 9 to complain of graphics issues.  I was told that there is nothing HP can do till a newer graphics driver came out (which never came as we were promised).  I purchased this computer for one reason; to play games.  In the past 3 months it has been collecting dust, while I use my older laptop to play games on the lowest possible setting waiting impatiently for the new updates.
The issue is HP's most recent Dv7t Quad laptops were being sold with a 7690mXT graphics card which is known as a gaming card.  HP also markets it as a gaming PC.  Yet I am unable to play Star wars the old republic, Mass Effect 3, and Battlefield 3.  The games just crash.  HP told us back in Feb that in a month a newer driver would come out, never did.  Other issues are over heating, GPU throttling down fps on movies and games, and random crashes.
I read on formus today that HP achnowledges this issue and is now only replacing your Dv7t with their brand new option with the Nvidia GPU if you purchased your laptop within 21 days.  I feel as a loyal HP customer, with a faulty $1300 laptop withing its warranty, only purchased less then 3 months ago, reporting issues 3 days after receiving it, the fact HP cant solve their issues, deceived in purchasing a faulty laptop design, advertised as a gaming laptop, the fact I have helped more HP Customers on their forums then their own tech support, that we and I deserve a refund, or a replacement, so we may finally utilize our computers.  I have owned 5 computers in my life, never had an issue like this before, so [legal discussion:removed] they better do the RIGHT THING and give us our replacements.
Please post your issues so HP can see we were tricked into purchasing a faulty computer.
    Thanks.

Kudos to all the gamers and other notebook savvy users for their posts about the 7690M and 7690M XT. In February, I purchased a dvt6 i7 quad core with 2 gb of Radeon 7690 m XT. I chose this notebook after reading about it on various forums where gamers mostly post. Not knowing much about computers it seemed the gamers knew a lot. I wanted a really nice laptop. with good graphics. I love visual arts and product design. I was thrilled to order this notebook and was assured by the HP sales staff that I was making a wonderful choice with the dvt6.. I got the 7200 hybrid drive and the 1080p display and looked forward to fast performance and visual wow. Because of the cost, over $1000, it was important to me the notebook stay in stride with future technical advancements for  the next two to three years., at least.
I felt aggrieved when HP walked away leaving me alone with the 7690M XT. During the 21day return policy I hammered at testing the components. Lacking many computer skills, little did I know I had been I thrown into a radeon/ intel marriage, dysfunctional. at its quad core. Intuitively something about how the graphics worked seemed off. Calling tech support confused me more. Tech after tech told me I did not have an intel display adapter. I did not have switchable graphics. "Your order form only lists the Radeon card.!." I went back and forth with different techs with different takes. I imagined the techs were right , despite tne fact the device manager had two adapters, the order form trumped all.. One night I had this dream.
Intel: " Honey, call the driver we need to take Crysis to school."
Radeon: "Yes dear, but the AMD agency fails to update his license.".
Intel: "That's it, I will take Crysis since all you do is look good and make promises you pretend to keep." "Why didnt you call for a new driver?"
Radeon: "Call? When? All you do is takeover and run everything?" (Radeon huffs, turns red,and leaves.)
Inel: " Oh,not another black out, I am leaving you for Nvidia !"
I know very little about how a computer works I made repeated calls to tech support and was led down one dark alley after another. I have spent twenty+ collective hours with support. Reputably, I was told that I did not have an intel display adapter or switchable graphics: only the AMD 7690M XT. Last week my HP case manager mailed me an email with downloads to fix my graphics with updates from July 2011. Strange. I will have to investigate these updates as it seems I already have more current updates. The case manger insisted I do the downloads to see if my games play. The only other alternative he offered was to send my laptop in for repairs. I emphatically told him there were no repairs for the graphic problems because HP does not have a proper driver for the 7690M XT.

  • Linux vs. linux-ck power usage - laptop users please post your results

Krum reported are rather significant increase in power consumption when using the linux-ck kernel vs. the linux (stock ARCH) kernel.
krum wrote:With the last ck i7-avx, I jump from 10W (stock arch) to 15W on my laptop with the same kernel options and same usage.
I will investigate further another time...
I began to wonder just how universal this was so I tested on my own laptop (Intel T9400 @ 2.53 GHz, NVidia FX, 2x2 GB, SSD and 17" screen) booted into three different kernels, ARCH, ck-generic, and ck-core2 with the latter two downloaded from my unofficial repo.  I took two readings per kernel.  The first was measured with powertop on battery after letting it settle for a good 3 min of idle.  The second was with the battery removed and on AC power measured with a Kill-A-Watt.  My results indicate no significant differences.
    linux-3.0.3-1
    Powertop: 37.5
    Kitt-A-Watt: 41
    linux-ck-3.0.3-4

    Kitt-A-Watt: 41
    linux-ck-core2-3.0.3-4
    Powertop: 37.5

Can others running both kernels do a similar analysis with powertop and post the results here?

    Hi,
I did my test with powertop.
    I got also higher temp:

For what it's worth: I'm merely a hobbyist and have no production-level experience with video editing.  Nor do I want it. ;-)  So my use of PPro is somewhat limited.  I didn't upgrade, rather I nuked my system disk from orbit and re-installed from scratch.  I don't like doing OS upgrades, regardless of the OS (WindBlows, OS X, Linux, etc).
All that said: I haven't had one lick of trouble with Lion and PPro.

  • Please Post Macbook Pro Temperatures here.

All Macbook Pro owners, please post your macbook pro temperatures here. This would allow us owners to clearly identify what an "average" temperature is, and what would be considered over-excessive heating of our Macbook Pros.
Below are two useful applications (one is a widget) to find out the temperatures of your computers.
    http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitorWE.html (a widget)
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19994 (a comprehensive application)
when posting your temperature, please do post some specs of your macbook pro.
This is greatly appreciated. thank you (:
for starters, my macbook pro is a 1.83 ghz intel duo core, 512 mb ram, 128mb graphics card. it supposedly comes from the batch produced on the day of 31st March, 2006. I think it is a revision D.
So far, doing normal tasks like web browsing, etc, my macbook pro has been at a temperature of 42 degrees celsius.

I have a MBP 1,83 and I did the "yes-command" with two Termial Windows, that means my two processors are running at 100%. The
Fans are running and holding a constant temperature of 75°C.
In "normal-work-mode" the temperature is rising up to 62°C, but this takes about an hour. At the moment I have a processor usage of about 6% and a temperature of 48°C.
When I am at about about 62°, I get the "mooing". I am very sure that this is caused by a fan on the left side, because I get the same noise, when I do the "yes-command" but then the fan is accelerating. When I get the mooing it is going up and after a little while down.

  • Multiple issues on MacBook Pro Retina. Please help

I am new to Mac. Switched to MacBook Pro from PC being tired of multiple hang-ups and recently losing some important work done on excel.
Now, I face some issues. I know that the first 2 shown here are Microsoft issues, but hey, even those like me who switched to MAC will, like it or not, face Microsoft at some point. Besides, there is no such "Warning" notice before buying a MAC that reads "Ms Office users, please refrain from buying a Mac" after all. :-)
Hopefully someone here will be able to help me.
    1) Outlook. (not critical but annyoing)
         a) I can't find the way to reply emails without imprinting the corporate Signature on every email. Is there any way to solve this?
         b) "Do not save" option for sending emails out is not an option?
         c) Request "read confirmation" not an option?
    2) Excel. (critical for someone spending 95% of her/his time on excel)
Anyone working on fin markets will agree that excel goes without Mouse 90% of the time. For that reason shortcuts are a MUST.
    Now... the issues
         a) Speed of scrolling. Moving around the excel sheet with the arrows is way to slow.. even for a 2.9Ghz Intel Pentium 8Gb Ram 500GB flash HD like my Mac. Is there any way to speed up this?
         b) PC shortcuts have changed completely in a Mac. A "critical" shortcut is the "F2" button, to edit cells and check formulas within. This has to be one keystroke.. not a combination of two.
To my surprise F2 translates into Ctrl + U (two keystrokes).  I will reserve my comments on this matter, but somehow I have managed to resolve this myself by installing a Butler program and mapping the shortcut action manually on another key (under Esc).   ( -> so this one is somehow resolved)
    3) Stability
I have paid a hefty sum hoping that "hangs-up" would be part of the past. Unfortunately, I have suffered 5 hang ups in a period of 10 days, and doing some basic google search I came accross multiple forums about the "spiralling colour of death"? is there any way to turn a Mac more stable?
Of course, the machine is gorgeous, the built is impecable, the screen is superb but, I still suffer from the issues listed above.
so as a new Mac user and starting to become a bit frustrated, I am looking forward to your responses.
    Kind regards

Outlook and Excel are different beasts on a Mac, and not as good if you're used to Office for Windows IMO so you have two choices:
    1) Get over it, and re-learn Outlook and Excel but be prepared for certain features to be missing; or
    2) Use bootcamp or a virtual machine to install your MS OS of choice and then install and use your favourite version of Office for Windows.
    Enjoy!

My iPod mini, 4gb is hard to get serviced obviously because they dont make them anymore
It is as simple to get it serviced as the day you purchased it.
How is it hard to get it serviced?
How long have you had your iPod?
i get maybe 4-5 hours of battery life, maybe even 6 if im lucky
That is not good but it's not "terrible".
If you've had it less than a year, send it back to Apple to replace the battery.
thought that i might buy an attachment type accesorie that i plug into the usb port on my ipod
It's called a dock connector, not a USB port.
i found a product in the online store, that i guess you place the ipod mini on, and it gives you up to 20 or so more hours of time but then it says that you have to have a firewire port or cable?
What is it? The firewire port is on the computer, not the iPod.
If the original battery is going bad, the first thing to do is get that sorted out.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My facetime doesnt work. If I call somone they see I call but when they accept it doesnt work and when they call me the green camera light turns on but no sound or pop up of the video chat screen appears, please help! Macbook pro user. MacBook Pro, OS X M

My facetime doesnt work. If I call somone they see I call but when they accept it doesnt work and when they call me the green camera light turns on but no sound or pop up of the video chat screen appears, please help! Macbook pro user.
MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion

I just wanted to follow this up by saying that you were entirely correct in your diagnosis of the situation.  My computer did have the faulty part you linked to.  I brought my laptop in and specifically told them to run that test, had it fail and then argued with the person at the genius bar and the manager.  Eventually they offered to have it sent out and have everything replaced for free of charge.  They did so mainly because I had complained about graphical issues almost every other time I had come in with problems and no one ran the test.  They should have caught this problem during my warranty, but they didn't, even though I mentioned the problem.
Anyhow, after having the part replaced, I haven't had my computer crash a single time since, or had many of the issues mentioned above.  I've never had this experience before.  Even brand new, I got occasional crashes.  Hopefully this new trend continues.
I do find that web browsing is still incredibly slow.  Web browsers just chug along at a slow pace, even though I have great internet speed.  Maybe I'll try just deleting my web browsers and reinstalling them...
Anyhow, thank you for your help and knowledge Clinton.

  • MSI Neo2 users, cpu temperature!!!, please post yours!!!

    Hi Guys
for the MSI Neo2 865PE users,i want to know, what is your guys cpu temperature while your computer is idle and stressed/underload.
    my rig:
    MSI Neo2-S (bios ver.1.0) P4 2.4C @stock speed with stock heatsink fan
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (not oc'ed)
80 GB WD and 60 GB Seagate HDD
Antec 1080 AMG with 430Watt psu
    4 fan running = 2 intake 2 blow out
    Sound Blaster Audigy
    1x512 MB Ram Kingston
    and,
i'm using pcalert4, and it shows:
    CPU idle=45 Celcius
    CPU when playing games=60 Celcius
    System Temperature = 29-32 Celcius
please post yours, please... because, i think it is too hot for p4 to have that kind of temperature.
    thank guys!!!

I am wondering how accurate the sensors are on these boards.
I don't think MSI (nor any other manufacturer) has a step to calibrate the temperature sensors, so the answer is - not much
They are just relative temp readings, and probably vary from board to board.
    Quote
system temp. Board readings are from 39c to 43c but the air temp coming out the back 120mm fan is 31c to 33c.
Air cooling is achieved by transferring heat from hotter components to the cooler air. This will raise the temperature of the exhaust, but never higher than your hottest component. It actually depends where the sensor is located. If you put a card on the PCI slot above the Winbond chip, you would probably observe higher SYS temperatures.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
