Maddening problem - Timezone and published calendar

OK folks, this is the problem:
I'm publishing a calendar on .mac. All of my entries on .mac are 7 hours later than I've set them in iCal, even through my iCal timezone and my system preferences timezone are the same (Europe/Lodon). The published timezone on the browser page also claims to be Europe/London, so why on Earth are the times different?
Any ideas? Big thanks to anyone who can help...

I spent something like 6 hours last week trying to tweak things in the .ics file to sort this out and came away with nothing.
Short of writing a script to change the actual time, I'm at a loss.
Before going the script route, I'm going to play with changing the .ics file to a vCal file and see if that helps.
What I found most frustrating is that if I took the .ics file and stripped out all references to time zone, I still ended up with an event that shifts time. With no reference to time (including the 'z' which the specification details as an indicator of UTC), I'm at a loss as to understand the shift.
The GroupWise server does use a timezone designation, so my only other guess is that it automatically assumes UTC for any file without a timezone attributed to it and then adjusts accordingly. Perhaps if I can figure out why "my" Pacific time zone isn't recognized by the server, I'll have an answer.
I can't seem to find good documentation on the GroupWise end, but it obviously sounds similar. Maybe looking outside the .ics spec is the answer. I found reference on the MS site to using vCal, so maybe there is hope.

  • Floating Time Zones messed up in Mobile Me and Published Calendars

Having researched this for 3 years, I'm sure only Apple can answer this... but it would be very reassuring to know if others are frustrated with this too!
FLOATING TIME ZONES, incredibly, are not supported when PUBLISHING and SHARING iCAL!
I travel a lot. I store my flight times and appointment times. When I'm in one time zone I frequently want to share information about my schedule with people in other time zones. ALL I want is to store and share my calendar items with the relevant time in the place they occur. SO I use Floating Time Zones. (And of course usually set my Time and Date for the place I am in)
IF someone reading this learns whether anyone CARES about this - please let us know. There is no real iCal support anywhere else except here.
I have used a Mac for 20 years and this is the first time that Apple has let me down, with no hope in sight.

OK: I am in Geneva when I make my reservation to fly from NY to Los Angeles. I enter a single event: my flight with start time in NY and end time in LA. I enter a second event - a wedding in Los Angeles.
Now I'm in Istanbul and trying to make plans with family and friends. The folks in NY just want to know what time the wedding is in L.A., not what time it will be in NY when the event happens. The folks in Geneva just want to know what time my flight arrives in NY so they can talk intelligently about what time my rendezvous in Manhattan will be....
All I want is to have the freedom to ONLY EVER see the time in the time zone of the event. I want to be free when I travel to re-set the clock to show me the time of the place I am in, without that changing ANYTHING in my calendar display.
Similarly, no one else that I share my calendar cares wants to know what time something in another time zone corresponds to in the time zone they are in at the moment.
I think it should be simple, but I can't seem to do it. I just want to enter the times that I want for the beginning and ending of an event, and for it to ALWAYS to display the time I entered and NOTHING else... on my laptop... on Mobile Me... and when I publish with iCal...
    Is it possible?

  • Published Calendar

    Hello,
there seems to be a problem with the Published Calendar funktion in Exchange 2010. Wenn I publish my calendar over the OWA Site and import the published calendar ics File (lets say in my iphone), I have some problems with the recurring Meetings-Appointments.
If a recurring meeting is changed (not the whole series), I see both meeting instances (original an changed) in the published calendar. We use only the OWA and not Oulook, so there is no other way to export our calendars.
Our Exchange Server is 2010 with SP3.
Is there a way to correct this problem?
    Kind Regards

  • Repeating events and publishing

I've been using iCal Exchange to publish calendars, just experimentally
for now. It's going very smoothly except for one thing: repeating events
only show up in the html version on the first date of the event. So, for
example, if I make a repeating event for my band rehearsal every week, it
shows up on the published calendar ONLY on the first date I added.
However if I download the .ics file, the recurring events are there.
Does anyone else have this problem? Hopefully I'm missing something obvious.

    This works for me: http://ical.mac.com/dancingbrook/Test
    Even as a group: http://ical.mac.com/dancingbrook/Test%20Group
    Some quick thoughts.
There have been some problems reported when publishing calendar groups that have a space or other "strange" characters in their name (eg more repeating than you want).
If you are using iSync. that too has seem to be related to strange behavior.
In neither case are the problems universal.
I'd start by un-publishing and trying again.

  • Location and Notes not showing up in Published Calendar

When viewing my published calendar on its Web link, I cannot see the location and notes information. I see everything else. I made sure to check all options when I published. Does anyone else have this problem? I am publishing with my new MobileMe account (trial).
I will let you know if I hear back from Apple support on this. I have not seen this problem posted and right now cannot search the forums, so I apologize if this is a repost.

    Hi Zargon,
So, you have four separate calendars published?
No... I actually only have ONE calendar published.
Make one group (iCal > File menu > New Calendar
Group), then move your four calendars into it, you
can then select the Group in your calendar list and
then publish it. The events of the calendars should
all then appear in a single published calendar.
Yes, the Birthdays calendar does take its data from
    Address Book.
    John M
And thank you for the insight on publishing all the data as a "GROUP".
That did indeed solve my issue!!!
    Thanks.

  • Difference between syncing iCal with .me Calendar and publishing my iCal

    Hi everyone,
This is probably kind of simple for most, but I'm actually just learning about iCal and how I can centralize my calendars in iCal on Calendar at .mac (or .me I guess). The Help section doesn't really address the confusion I have. So thanks for any insight you can share.
    1. What is the difference between syncing my iCal with Calendar and publishing my iCal to .me?
    2. I just added a new event to iCal. Then I clicked on a sync button (via the sidebar of my local iDisk). But when I checked Calendar, that new event wasn't there. Does anyone know why and then what to do to make it appear?
    3. When/If I add a new event while I'm at Calendar, how do I make sure it appears on my iCal? Do I follow the same local iDisk sync routine?
    4. Can my 2 friends and I log on to my account at the same time to view my Calendar while we're all on our laptops.
    Thanks a lot you guys.

Ok, I wonder if you could help me with a similar but different problem. I have been using iCal now for awhile but only recently started using Google Calendars (once I found out they could both be synced together). Anyway, I understand how to set up the sync, it's very simple especially following the link that you already provided. But, I have three calendars for personal, school, and work already in iCal that are in the default group that iCal starts with of "calendars".
Anyway, when you create a new account in iCal to set up the syncing, it creates a whole new calendar group. I had never had an "account" before, so all my three main calendars are separate from this new account. Is there anyway to move or duplicate those calendars into my new calendar group so that I can have one flowing set of synced information between google and iCal without manually retyping all of the information myself? I have tried dragging the calendars down into the other group and all you can do is reorder them within the group they're already in. Even a duplication would work, if that is possible (to duplicate a whole calendar).
Any insight from anyone would be incredibly helpful.
    Thanks a ton,
    Zac

  • ICal, MS Outlook, and Titles in published calendars

I need to publish my calendar, and would like to use iCal to do it. However, I only need the equivalent of free/busy information to show (I don't want to show any other information about events). I thought that unchecking "Publish Titles and Notes" would accomplish this, but when I subscribe to the calendar using Outlook (as some of my subscribers will), I can see the event title.
Is there any way to fix this?

I am also looking for a way to publish my iCal calendars, but only show the times as "busy" and not show any specific proprietary data. MS Outlook and Google Calendar have this functionality worked out, just curious if there is a way to do this on .MAC.

  • Problems with a shared calendar using Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2010

    Hello all,
We are having a problem with sharing a calendar using Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2010.
I will start with some background. I have just started my position with this company. I have been working with networks for awhile at the small business level. I have not had much production experience with exchange. There is only myself and my supervisor
who has inherited a midsized network which was built by five previous techs that are no longer with the company. Of course, the previous techs did not leave much documentation, so the original hows and whys for our system setup has been lost.
One of the managers has a calendar she shares with some of our users. I believe this calendar has been in use since sometime in 2006. A mailbox was created to hold this calendar to keep it separate from the managers calendar. I am not sure what version
of exchange they were using at that time, but I assume there was one or two migrations of it getting to its current state on our exchange 2010 server. At some point it was observed that the other workers she was sharing with were not able to access it correctly.
I am not fully sure what the original problem was (possibly some people not being able to see or connect to the calendar), but it was decided to give everyone who needed access to this calendar full access permissions through exchange. Correct me if I
am wrong, but I believe that gave everyone connected the ability to do anything with the calendar. Of course the manager was not happy about that. This is where I started working on the problem.
I removed everyone, except the manager who wants to control the calendar, from having "Full Access Permissions". This did have the effect of making some people just able to see the calendar and not make changes. Though there were others that were
able to connect to the calendar who I thought would not be able to. The manager that originally created the calendar did try to manage access to it through the Outlook interface, though it currently does not seem to be fully in effect.
So, to get to the point of what we are trying to do, is there a way to get the original manager back into control of the calendar though Outlook? It would be preferred to be able to keep the history of what they tracked of this calendar, so starting a new
one would be something we would rather avoid. After that, getting all of the users that need to connect to the calendar reconnected with the correct access permissions and making sure they are all synchronized.
I realize this is a big mess, and your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Nigel,
How is the impact, just one user or all users, Outlook or OWA?
If just one user, it seems like an issue on the Outlook Client side.
Please trying to re-create new profile to fresh the caches.
Please runing Outlook under safe mode to avoid some AVs, add-ins and firewall.

  • Problem synching iPod and Outlook calendars

When I sync my iPod (Gen5 60GB) and Outlook calendars, I get a time discrepancy starting October 29, 2006 (the day DST ends). All appointments on my iPod calendar display 1 hour later than in Outlook.
Has anyone else had/solved this problem?
    HP Pavilion   Windows XP Pro

Yes I am having the same issue. I wish I had not upgraded to 7 because not only I am not able to synch contact (all of them and calendar) I also lost all playlists, movies, original contacts, etc. I cannot reach anyone in phone support and the "genuises" in the store don't have a clue except that they know there are bugs! Why release the **** thing if there are significant problems?
I hope someone has a solution!!

  • Lost calendars, colours and publishes after upgrade to Leopard.

I've just upgraded my ibook g4 from 10.3.9 to 10.5.4
It appeared to go smoothly, though thankfully I had used backup
to store most of the important stuff on an external firelite drive.
I opened iCal and am still horrified.
    1) about half of my calendars are missing, mostly the ones which used to be published because they had important information in my partner needs to know too - like where I'm working when!
    2) all the colours on have changed
    3) the order is completely scrambled
the above two make it tricky to work out which calendars are missing.
    4) it won't let me re-order subscribed calendars in with my calendars (which is where i want to see them.
I really hope someone can help as I don't fancy the drive to the nearest apple store to try and make someone fix it face to face on a busy saturday when it's full of people but I need to get access to my data soon!
    Help,
    please.

Oh and I forgot to say
    5) none of the calendars which were published are published anymore
    Jo
(manually recreating and importing calendars one at a time and being generally not very impressed at all).

  • Question about publishing Calendar and URLs

Hi everyone, have a question that hopefully knows the answer too. I have been researching on how to publish individual user calendars to external users.
I have seem to come across 2 different ways to do this
    1) is to right-click on my calendar in OWA, then I select the external recipient and it emails the recipient a long url similar to:
    http://webmail.mydomain.com/owa/calendar/[email protected]/4d9f8b52769b4ddca3e51f6f82d01b6f1902995877095312719/S-1-8-2306188436-3125773453-2945785077-3615357645/reachcalendar.html
    2) Within Outlook 2013, I click on "publish calendar" and it takes me to an ECP url for my exchange server where I can select how many months I want to share, the permission they can see, etc... and then it provides me at the bottom with two links
    like:
    http://webmail.mydomain.com/owa/calendar/[email protected]/Calendar/calendar.html
My question is what are the differences between these two methods and also, both of these urls will NOT work unless I change them to HTTPS instead, how I can modify the links that get emailed out? I did see for the 2nd method above I can set it using the
"PublishedCalendarUrl" in Powershell, but that is impractical for a lot of users.
    thanks!

    Hi BMIG,
    Please re-start IIS for testing.
If not working unfortunately, please use IIS Manager to simplify the OWA url and force redirection to SSL.
    Steps as below:
    1. Start IIS Manager.
    2. Expand the local computer, expand Sites, and then click
    Default Web Site.
    3. At the bottom of the Default Web Site Home pane, click Features View if this option isn't already selected.
    4. In the IIS section, double-click HTTP Redirect.
    5. Select the Redirect requests to this destination check box.
    6. Type the absolute path of the /owa virtual directory. For example, type
    https://mail.contoso.com/owa.
    7. Under Redirect Behavior, select the Only redirect requests to content in this directory (not subdirectories) check box.
    8. In the Status code list, click Found (302).
    9. In the Actions pane, click Apply.
    10. Click Default Web Site.
    11. In the Default Web Site Home pane, double-click SSL Settings.
    12. In SSL Settings, clear Require SSL.
    13. For the new settings to take effect, open a Command Prompt window, and then type
    iisreset /noforce to restart IIS.

  • Publish Calendar Group and events location lost

After publish the Calendar Group, which may contain more than one individual calendar and coded in different colors correspondingly, the published online view of the calendar group shows only one color. Is there a design fault in this? Shouldn't the published Calendar group retain the original individual calendar colors?
Also, the published calendar, individual events lost their locations. When I publish the calendar I checked the box for title and notes. There is nowhere for checking the location. Is this the reason for not publishing the location? Please correct the design. Thanks.

I'm also wondering why iCal event locations and URLs don't appear in a published (via .Mac) calendar. When I click on an event, I get Subject, Date, and Summary info (which is equivalent to the Notes field). It does not show the Location or URL field, however.
Any ideas on how to get this information on a published calendar?
