    Hi, sixfinger.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    Try forcing all applications to close and restart the device.  Once this is done test to see if the Mail app functions correctly.

    This may also be due to the Sudden Termination feature built into OS X, which will effectively quit a process if the system is demanding resources. Mail can be a RAM hog at times, and if your system only has a few GB of RAM, then when other programs demand more and you have not been using Mail then the system will invoke Sudden Termination to quit it so more RAM is available elsewhere.
    Do you have only ~2-4GB of RAM in your system? Check for this in the About This Mac option in the Apple menu, and if so then consider upgrading to more if your system supports it. Alternatively you can try quitting other applications to free up more RAM.
    To see which programs are using the most RAM, open the Activity Monitor utility and choose My Processes from the drop-down menu. Then ensure Real Memory is checked in the View > Columns menu, and click this menu's title to sort the items by it.
    Keep in mind that sudden termination does not fully quit the program, so Mail may still show up in Activity Monitor when you open it even though it may be closed from the Dock.

  • Mail app and Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion and Mavericks

    I have, and use, 3 different Macs, an older MacMini running Snow Leopard, an older MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and a new MacBook Pro running Mavericks.  My personal email account, setup using the Mail.app, works fine on Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion.  On the MBP running Mavericks, I setup the Mail.app using the same settings as on Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion.  It doesn't work.  Nothing but timeouts.
    I've read a lot about the problems with Mavericks and IMAP and updated Mavericks apps, including Mail.  Still no go.  I'm not so much asking for help as registering that the IMAP problems aren't fixed.
    But if anyone has some ideas, I'm listening.
    Thanks all!
    Brenda

    I'd check to see if the latest version of the plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible or not, unless you have a really large number of plug-ins to deal with, where you could just see what's broke and what's not, post upgrade. But beware of retaining the old ones. For example, 10.6 Mail broke the GPG-Mail plug-in that works under 10.5.x. Search the Snow Leopard Mail forum using the search phrase "GPG Mail" OR GPGMail OR "GPG-Mail" or other mail plug-in names of interest to you.

  • Microsoft Windows 8 Mail App - Deleted Account still used as "From" Account

    Hi There,
    My wife has a Surface RT that has been upgraded to 8.1. She has been happily using the mail app (Imap account), and indeed prefers it to the Surface version of Outlook. The other evening I added my own Imap account to the mail app, but then removed it again
    as I prefer the outlook version. Now whenever she sends an email from the mail app, it is using my email address as the From account (can see this by clicking "more info" under the To box) even though the account is not there, which results in no
    email being sent as there are no server details etc. on which to send it.
    How can i change this so that it is only using my wife's account ?
    Many thanks for any help you can give.
    Andrew.

  • Mail app connection failures while using different WiFi network

    I have four email accounts (hotmail, yahoo, gmail, and icloud) set up through the mail app that all work as expected while on my home WiFi network.  These accounts all fail to connect, however, whenever I am connected to my university's wireless.  The accounts have connected successfully on campus in the past, and broke around the time I upgraded to Lion.  What actions should I take to get my mail client up and running while at school?

    This is an OS X Server:Mail Services forum
    Are you connecting to an OS X Server?
    If so, from that server, post the unedited output of the following command run from Terminal:
    postconf -n
    Also, try enabling SMTP Authentication in your mail client.

  • Mail.app freezes and CPU overheats

    Hello:
    I need help.
    Mail is frozen with the Properties window and an unfinished email open. It causes the CPU to overheat till 194ºF / 90ºC turning on the fan at a highly noisy speed.
    MacBook Pro
    Mac OS X 10.7.4
    Mail 5.2
    I added a 4th IMAP account;
    Sent an email to check whether the account was properly set up;
    The mail was received without problems;
    Opened Mail Properties;
    Clicked on "Signatures";
    Mail froze;
    The CPU overheated till 194ºF / 90ºC with the fan spinning at high speed;
    The  icon didn't respond with Mail as active window;
    Switched to another app, then the  icon became active;
    Forced Mail to quit (it wasn't marked as Not responding);

    How can I have my Mac just working as it should, as promised?
    It's very annoying having Windows-like idiocies around.
    Thank you in advance for any advice.
    Regards,
    Arturo HC

    The fact that Mail works OK in another user account indicates the problem may be related to something else in the account you're booting into. To resolve it, you're going to have to find out what that is. To do so,
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Start your Mac up in SAFE mode by pressing the power button as normal BUT holding down the SHIFT key at the same time. Keep the shift key depressed until you see the progress bar on the screen. You can then let go of the Shift key.
    3. Log into the account that's having trouble. Start Mail. Any problem?
    If the same problem occurs, post back here. If the problem doesn't occur, go to
     > System Preferences > Users & Groups | Login Items
    4. Remove EVERYTHING from that list. (If you've a lot of items in there, you might want to take a screenshot of the list so that you can add them in again later.)
    5. Restart the computer normally. Problem resolved?
    If No, post back here. If Yes, add one item at a time back into the Login Items list and restart each time. Eventually, you'll add something and the problem will recur. Take out and leave out that item.

  • Does anyone know how to limit the number of emails in the mail app? I'm using iPod touch 5.

    I remember I did this before when I had ios 6 but I can't find that option anymore in ios 7.

    Looking at the basic ListUI implementation, it looks like the UI bases its wrapping on the list height (dividing current height by element height). So, it will always grow horizontally, never vertically. Makes sense, I guess, but it leaves me with two hacks:
    1) Add a listener to the data model that expands the list vertically based on the desired number of columns. As long as the list lives in a scrollpane, this isn't an issue.
    2) Use a table instead of a list. I have a strong negative reaction to this, as it seems somehow wrong to take a component designed for two-dimensional data and use it to display one-dimensional data. It's also a royal pain to set up the table properly: create a facade TableModel that translates to the underlying ListModel, limit selection to a single cell, make sure that the table's header doesn't appear in the scrollpane, etc (I'm sure I'll find things I haven't thought of).

    how do you log into hotmail at work? via webmail interface? hotmail provides POP email access only when using an email clienet and you probably have Mail set to remove messages from server after downloading them. go to Mail preferences->account->advanced and check those settings. you can change them to leave messages on server or to remove them from server only when they are moved from the inbox.

  • Send and receive email using applescript without Mail.app?

    How could I use applescript to send an email and check the email on the same account without adding those addresses to Mail.app. I tried using the 'sendmail' terminal command and that works pretty well for sending but how do I receive?

    Everything about fetchmail is here.

  • How can I disable my MobileMe account as sender in the iOS Mail app?

    Ever since I logged on to iCloud in OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.0, 10.8.1), I've noticed that in Gmail (using the Mail app for iOS), on my iPhone running iOS 5.1.1, the sender appears to be my MobileMe account (an account I had to use a while back when I first got started using iCloud, but haven't actually used).
    Besides flooding my iCloud account mail information with sent mail and the fact that I don't want people associating my email address with the wrong address, it's very annoying that when I choose my regular Gmail address as the sender mail, the next time I send an email, the MobileMe address is the default address yet again.
    The problem persists even though I have:
    Disabled the iCloud email account (@me.com) in the Mail app in OS X Mountain Lion (the OS in which, by all accounts—no pun intended—it all started).
    Disabled iCloud to use and sync Mail.
    This is the settings for Gmail in Mountain Lion, in which disabling Mail and the MobileMe account for use, should be the only email address associated with my iCloud account (excepts it obviously isn't as MobileMe is tied to my AppleID for whatever purpose Apple saw fit back in the day):
    I saw a thread here discussing the posibility of deleting the iCloud account on the iPhone, powering it off and then, when powered back on, simply signing in again with iCloud. I'm nor sure this is a "solution" as much as a way around something I cannot understand is happening in spite of the changed I have made already.
    Surely, someone must be able to tell me what I can do to simply not have my @me.com email address set to the default From address in Mail in iOS. Other than that, I have no real problem with the @me email address being used, at all.
    It's just so annyoing when trying to send a quick reply to a colleague or something.
    Please discuss below.

    I feel funny replying to myself; I cannot remove this discussion and at any rate, I guess if someone else has this problem, they'll be pleased it has not been deleted.
    So, I managed to fix this all on my own. Obviously the difficulty-level is about as low as it gets:
    After updating to iOS 6 last night, I was playing around in the settings of my phone, when I came across this, the iCloud for Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calandars > Accounts > iCloud:
    All I had to do was to turn Mail off. This leaves the Cc/Bcc, From field empty in my phone's Mail app--just the way I wanted it!
