Mail.app save attachement dialog field order changed...

Now I have 'Date Modified' first, before the filename, and cant see what Im doing. How do I return this dialog to the defaults?

You should probably post in the Leopard [Mail|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223] thread, you'll likely get more informed answers.

  • Mail.app hangs or crashes whenever making changes in it

As the subject says, Mail.app will hang for a very long time and/or crash (making a force quit necessary) whenever I make any change in it.
    OS 10.6.8
    Mac Pro desktop
I switched to Mail.app from Eudora in January and this behavior has pretty much always been there, but lately is getting worse. I have 3 POP accounts that I imported to Mail after first using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner. The import went fine, no problems encountered.
Counting sub-folders (mailboxes) in all 3 POP accounts, there are hundreds of folders and 10's of thousands of emails altogether.
Normal email functions for sending and receiving all work fine, but if I make *any* change within Mail, i.e. change a preference or try to add a new mailbox, or move a mailbox from one folder to another, Mail becomes unresponsive (spinning beach ball) for at least 5 or 10 minutes, at which point I now give up and do a force quit because the few times I've let it go longer it just keeps chugging away. The odd thing is (odd to me at least) that when the beach ball finally quits spinning, or I force quit and restart Mail, whatever change I was trying to make is done, and everything returns to normal until the next time I want to change something.
I'm getting ready to upgrade to Lion, and I know a new version of Mail will be part of that, so I'd like to get this resolved first so as to not just pass it along or possibly make something worse with Mail in Lion, unless perhaps just doing the upgrade to Lion will somehow "fix" whatever the issue is.
    Thanks for any information/advice.

Well, I found what was making Mail.app choke. A MacInTouch post proposed deleting the file named "LSMMap2" in the Library>Mail folder. I did that, and now everything is fine. LSMMap2 is related to junk-filtering, and in retrospect I see that all the messages that mail.app choked on were the sort of ones it normally thinks are junk.
(I turned off junk filtering as well. No one said that you had to turn it off to make this work, but my email provider has a good spam filter already, so I decided not to complicate things.)
Please note that, if you do this, your Mail.app junk filtering will be reset -- that is, it will forget whatever you taught it when you marked messages as spam or not spam. (The descriptions of what has been declared junk and not-junk are stored in LSMMap2 and LSMMap.) So you might want to just drag it to the desktop to start with, instead of deleting it straight-off, in case it is not the culprit after all.

  • Field Order Changes?  Rendering from Color.

I received a project from a client that was run through color. I noticed their source files were lower field dominant (525/29.97) and their renders from color were upper or odd field dominant. This caused some strangeness in their sequences and it looks like they de-interlaced their clips and/or changed the field order of their sequences. I can't find anywhere in Color to set this as a pre-set, other than setting to de-interlace renders. Is it possible that Color is inverting the field order when it renders? This used to happen with Compressor, when I would export FCP for DVD's, sometimes Compressor would (set to Auto) guess wrong on the field dominance. Can anyone advise?
    Thanks in advance.

If only it were that easy. Of course, you will want to set a "re-interlace" for export....
De-interlace seems to be poorly understood and not very well executed in a lot of file-based image processing. In COLOR, both the Geometry and COLORFX rooms display spectacular weaknesses in this regard. To even use the word as its applied in COLORFX is a bit of a misnomer, because the real thrust of the exercise is to "split" and flag the fields for proper dominance handling. The COLOR USER manual has a good illustrated example of how to do this -- the result is a "twin" effects tree -- split the frame into its components at the top, do your voodoo identically for each "field" stream, then correctly zipper them back together at the bottom. Its a bit of a secret process, not entirely dissociated from a Masonic handshake.
There is a notional similarity to SHAKE in this regard, although that application only needs the FileIn node and the GLOBALS render tab enabled appropriately.

  • [Mail.app] Manage different "from field" when using aliases

I know how to manage aliases in mail.app
My question is: is there a way to tell to mail.app to use for each alias a different "from field"? or the from field will always be the one of my principal account?
This is an option that Thunderbird and Postbox offer.

    In Mail >Preferences>Accounts>Account information
Add as many alias as you want to the Email Address field separated by comma.
This is the most user friendly method for creating different "personalities."
When you create a New Mail it will present you with a From: field in which to choose your alias (personality,)  much like multiple signatures.

  • Popup for a  attachment in Purchase order  change

    Hi Friends,
when ever i change Purchase order , a popup window with data 'Attachement is there' is displayed in Purchase order if file is attached to PO.
    How to do it ?
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance .
    Balaji.T.

    Hi Tran
The requirement is in single plant and the material is stored in one plant and one storage location only.
The scenario is, client Sales activities are tracked through Project system. So whenever the sales orders are booked it is assigned to WBS and then on, it is tracked.
In Material management for the above sales order they procure Raw - materials which are Project specific. They have a Process of info record price, captured in PO everytime. Since we can maintain only one price in inforecord for the material. For every project(new sales order) the price of procurement varies for the same raw material. I cannot change the price every time, in Inforecord. Hence i require some thing like  Plant/material/Pur.Org/Vendor/Project( WBS element) specific access sequence so that i can maintain Condition record for N number of combination of the above. Purchase orders also gets the Price automatically.
If the above is not possible kindly inform me any alternative.
    Thanks for your interest
    Regards
    Arvind

  • Mail app PDF attachment is not visible

I found several reports (and workarounds) of PDF attachment hiding in Mail application. It seems to be still not fixed, as I got the issue with current up-to-date software configuration: OS X 10.6.7, Mail 4.5 (1084).
    My details:
    - email is generated by some automatic system, it has HTML body and one PNG image (referred from the HTML). I know there is also PDF attachment (2 pages).
    - In mail view I see HTML rendering and PNG image as the only attachment; attachment count is 1. Nothing about PDF, also PDF contents is definetly not visible "inline".
    - in mail source I can see that the HTML, PNG and PDF are there (as MIME attachments). Quick look to the source does not show anything obviously broken there; I've programmed MIME email sending in low level and have some idea about it.
    - in File-Quick view attachments I can see PDF contents
    - in File-Save attachments also PDF attachment is saved fine
    - in most other emails I can see PDF files, inline or as attachments. So it has something to do with specific mail format, or MIME configuration.
So the issue is that by normal view I just would have no idea that there is this hidden attachment.
I happened to know from another mail reader (gmail) that the attachment is there, otherwise I could never notice it. Therefore it is major annoyance, especially that Apple has not succeeded to fix it fully for 5 years or so.

I'm having the exact same problem here. I'm in Lion 10.73 running Mail 5.2.
This is very frustrating because the "list view" window, there's an attachement column that show's there's 2 attachments (presumably one image attachment for a signature and one for a pdf)... but in the message window there's no pdf attachment.
Surprisingly I have an iPad3 and the same message is missing the attachment as well.
But then I go online to my webhost's webmail access and the attachment is there.

  • Strange Mail add/save attachments dialog

    Folks,
Recently, when I go to add or save an attachment to a message, the (full) dialog box shows multiple copies of the Name and Modified columns. Not sure how this happened (corruption?), but it is extremely annoying. Clicking/right clicking in an open column doesn't seem to allow me to add/drop columns in this dialog to reconfigure it.
Anyone experience this? Is there a way to reconfigure this dialog box?
    -geoff

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? It is happening to me on my work computer running 10.5. One minute it was fine the next minute it had added an extra date modified column. Very frustrating. I am beginning to think 10.5 if very unstable. We are having several problems with it at work. I refuse to update my two computers at home running 10.4.11. That's as far as I'm going until Apple gets things straightened out.

  • Fields Order change in FCC receiver

    Hi experts,
i am receiver message in following format:
    EMPID(12)
    EMP_NAMEFULL(100)
    EMP_NAME(30)
and i have mapped it with receiver type as
    EMP_NAMEFULL(100)
    EMPID(12)
    EMP_NAME(30)
( i am just changing the fields sequence)
Here i am using FCC receiver adaptor in which i have specified the required fields names and lengths(100,12,30). but it gives me error of fields too short for first field.
    if i give the fields names and length in corresponding to seder message as(12,100,30) it is working fine but file contains wrong filed sequences {EMPID(12)EMP_NAMEFULL(100)EMP_NAME(30)}
    but i want {EMP_NAMEFULL(100)EMPID(12)EMP_NAME(30)}
Can any body suggest what should i do?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi All,
solved it... my mapping was not proper.

  • After password changed, Gmail is not working on iPad mail apps.

After Gmail password changed, iPad mail app's not working.
I changed  password on ipad setting too.
But its showed ' Theuser name or password for "Gmail" is incorrect. '
I can use Gmail from safari.
    Why?

Try this. Even if the outgoing primary server states that the username and password are optional, fill them in anyway.
Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if you can then send emails.

  • Is it possible to applescript the saving of a message to RTF in Mail.app?

I'm fiddling with a script that takes selected messages in Mail.app and, among other things, saves the messages as RTF files. The "Save As..." option in the File menu has the ability to save as the RTF type, but I can't seem to get this done in applescript with the "save" command. I've tried passing it a window object from the message viewer, but it just barfs. Does anyone know if Mail.app can be scripted to save a message to an RTF file (with a file name/path supplied via the AS program)?
Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S. I've tried circumventing this problem by trying to assemble a text document from the email message parts (subject, sender, contents, etc.) using TextEdit, with no success with formatting, but I'd rather get Mail to do it because it already formats the saved email nicely if you do it interactively in the "Save As..." dialog.

Just to make my question a little less abstract, here is the script as it stands so far:
    (* START SCRIPT *)
    tell application "Mail"
    activate
set selectedMessages to the selected messages of front message viewer
set saveFolder to choose folder with prompt "Please pick an empty folder for me to store the email information:"
    tell application "Finder"
    set parentFolder to folder saveFolder
set parentFolderPath to parentFolder as Unicode text
    end tell
    repeat with aMessage in selectedMessages
    properties of aMessage
set messageSender to sender of aMessage
set messageSubject to subject of aMessage
set messageSent to date sent of aMessage as string
set messageContent to content of aMessage
if (messageSender is "[email protected]") and (messageSubject begins with "manuscript #") then
-- Get thingie number from message subject after '#'
    set oldDelimiter to my SwitchDelimiterTo({"#"})
set manuscriptNumber to last text item of messageSubject
    my SwitchDelimiterTo(oldDelimiter)
log "NOTE: Email for manuscript #" & manuscriptNumber
    -- Make the folder in which to store the stuff for this manuscript;
-- variable "manuscriptFolder" will point to place to store files
    tell application "Finder"
try --ignore problems with folder creation, like existing folders/files
    set manuscriptFolder to make new folder in parentFolder with properties {name:manuscriptNumber}
    on error errorName number errorNumber
if errorNumber is -48 then -- Folder already exists
    log "NOTE: folder " & parentFolderPath & manuscriptNumber & " already exists."
set manuscriptFolder to folder manuscriptNumber in parentFolder
    end if
    end try
    end tell
set manuscriptFolderPath to manuscriptFolder as Unicode text
set messageFileName to manuscriptFolderPath & "email.rtf"
log "NOTE: Saving manuscript to file: " & messageFileName
-- Use TextEdit to construct an RTF file of the message to print out later
    tell application "TextEdit"
    activate
    close every document saving no
    -- Assemble the document
set docText to "Date:" & tab & messageSent & return
set docText to docText & "Subject:" & tab & messageSubject & return & return
set docText to docText & messageContent & return
    log "DOCTEXT: " & docText
set aDocument to make new document at beginning of documents
set text of the front document to docText
-- Save the document as an RTF in the messageFileName
    tell front document
save in messageFileName as "RTF "
    end tell
    end tell
    else
    log "Message from \"" & messageSender & "\" with subject \"" & messageSubject & "\" will not be processed."
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
-- Change the text item delimiter and return the existing ones
    on SwitchDelimiterTo(delimiterList)
    local x
set x to (get AppleScript's text item delimiters)
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to delimiterList
    return x
    end SwitchDelimiterTo
    (* END SCRIPT *)
It successfully walks throught the selected messages, picks out the "right" ones (from a particular address and with a particular subject), makes a folder to store some information about the email, has TextEdit assemble a document from the email's text and has TextEdit save the text file.
It's my kludgey work-around for not being able to either 1) print to a PDF file in Mail.app or 2) have Mail.app save the message itself as an RTF. It would be the bee's knees to get either 1 or 2 working, but I'd settle for figuring out how to format the text in TextEdit more nicely. I'd like to get the strings "Subject:" and "Date:" bold-faced for starters, but I have no way of knowing how to tell TextEdit to do it via AS.
My first try was to try to "make new text" with certain font and size properties at the end of the "texts", but that was a flop. I tried the same thing with "attribute runs" and "paragraphs" with no joy. It seems that the only way to get text into a document is to assign it to the "document"'s "text" property. But then I'm left to wonder how to select bits of it to change the bits appearances (fonts and sizes).
I've been fiddling with AS and automating Mail.app and TextEdit.app for days now, and it's just as perplexing as when I started. Any insite that you folks monitoring this discussion group would be greatly appreciated. The flotsam of script examples I've dredged up with Google haven't been enlightening. I've got a copy of O'Reilly's _AppleScript - The Definitive Guide_, and it's been a tiny bit of help, but I'm drifting.
    Thanks in advance for reading.

  • Mail.app supports accessing to Exchange Server through WebDAV OWA

I have been reading many threads from both here and Microsoft in order to get my mail.app work with my Exchange Server via WebDAV and/ or OWA.
My case is that I am fine with Entourage but not mail.app.
Something a few of us may miss is that Mail.app automatically amend the field "Outlook Web Access Server" to something like mail.myserver.com regardless of what you type, as in most cases the correct address is mail.myserver.com/exchange
So I am digging into my ~/Library/Application Support/Mail and try to find where exactly mail.app store the Account Information but I came out with no luck.
Can someone guide me through where is the setting stored because I think forcefully change that "auto change" Outlook Web Access Server address may well fix the problem many of us face.

With 10.5 and Mail 3.0, any luck for this topic?

  • Mail.app caveat

    Hi,
Just discovered a nasty "feature" in mail.app. If you have a POP (or IMAP I suppose) defined and configured and which contains a bunch of mails (thousands, sigh) and you happen to define the same account again in the account preferences and you remove the new account you will lose all your mails. Both sent mails and inbox will get deleted. The message lists are still there but the actual message bodies will be removed (The message from Bla bla<[email protected]> concerning “<Unknown subject>” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.).
I suppose this happens because mail.app saves the messages in Library/Mail/POP-account@[email protected] data directory. So, if you define a new mailbox with the old mailbox's credentials and remove the new mailbox, bad things happen.
Discovered this while creating a step-by-step instructions how to configure mail.app for gmail. Prolly not the most common usecase but having some kind of unique identifier in the account's mail data directory would be good. This is just bad design and will cause unnecessary grief if some poor bugger creates the account twice for some reason or does what I did.

FYI - this is the Mail, Contacts and Calendar discussions for the iPhone.
You should have been provided an error or warning message when attempting to create an additional account wirh the same user name and incoming mail server as an existing account.
When creating an email account with the Mail.app, an account named folder is created within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account.
For a POP account with Tiger Mail, the following mbox folders are created automatically within the account named folder when the function is used by the account; INBOX.mbox, Drafts.mbox, Sent Messages.mbox, Deleted Messages.mbox and Junk.mbox when Junk Mail is set to automatic.
The mbox folders within the account named folder represent the account named mailboxes under Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (when Junk Mail is set to automatic) in the mailboxes drawer.
This is why you cannot (or should not ignoring the warning message provided when doing so) create an additional account with the same user name and incoming mail server as an existing account.
When deleting an account with Mail, the associated account named folder within the Mail folder is also deleted at that time along with the account mailboxes within. A warning message is provided when doing so indicating this will happen.

  • Address Panel in Mail.app empty but Address Book app full

I recently updated to Mountain Lion. I have a mid-2011 iMac i7. I can't honestly say that it stopped working with the advent of Mountain Lion but it is the most recent change.
When I type a name in the Mail.app new email "To" field it will not read my contacts. The processing lined circle spins over on the right but never does anything. I looked in my contacts app and everything is fine. If I go into the mail.app and go to window->address panel it is empty. I am not using iCloud for contacts on any of my devices.
I tried searching a contact name from spotlight and it shows up under contacts... but hey, like i said, all my contacts are available in the contacts app.

Thunderbird does not have this problem, nor does Postbox. Both are now listed under security settings as having address book access. Mail.app is not listed as having access and there's not an option to add it.

  • Hiding keyboard when typing an email in Mail App

    Hello,
I was wondering if there was a way to hide the keyboard in the Mail App, once done typing, in order to facilitate rereading the email (otherwise it takes up A LOT of room...)
I know how to do it for the SMS, but can't figure out a way for emails.
    Thanks,
    Matt

To review the whole message before its sent, don't send the message. click on cancel and then select save. The unsent email will be in your drafts folder, you can review it in full (without keyboard) then make any additions before you press send.
    Hope this helps
